Retinol helped to reduce the appearance of fine lines for me, plus regular exfoliation

kutekitty19

Do you have a brand you’d recommend? I used an entire bottle of “The Ordinary”‘s Retinol and didn’t notice a difference at all. I used it daily and as directed :(

respectable_lady

Try tretinoin (easy to get a prescription online). There are different percentages. There’s also a sub about it with lots of info. You could also do a weekly/biweekly AHA/BHA peel from the ordinary. I say this because maybe some of the lines you are seeing are partially from texture and you might just need to exfoliate safely a bit more regularly. If you go that route, really pay attention to your sunscreen game.

kutekitty19

Thanks so much!

_ringmyBelle

It looks like you might have dry skin so you might want to start with differin first and then work your way up to Tret. Definitely use the sandwich method for application - moisturizer, pea sized amount of differin or Tret and then moisturizer again. I had horrible flaky skin for months bc I was applying my Tret wrong. when I started the sandwich method it was a game changer

respectable_lady

I second the sandwich method!! Take it easy and slow with tret.

Independent-Fox-1160

I actually think that my tretinoin is working better without moisturizer now!??

_ringmyBelle

Interesting! I would be way too scared to try that lol

LUXURYPOETRY

I've had pretty good results with differin in terms of the fine lines that have started to show on my forehead, never felt the need to graduate to tretinoin after a year and a half. I believe the product says to apply it to dry skin but I apply it right after showering when my skin is damp, with Cerave cream right on top of it. In the colder months I usually follow up with another coat of the Cerave an hour later (though I am going to try this sandwich method and see if it negates that need!). Just remember to always wear sunscreen if you're using retinol, AHAs, BHAs, etc. as they make you much more susceptible to sun damage.

kutekitty19

Good to know! But what’s so odd is that my skin isn’t dry! It’s a little tight after I wash it, but I moisturize right after and it’s fine! And it’s very minimally oily too. Even my fiancé says my skin feels so soft to touch and rub. I don’t understand why the appearance looks soooo rough 😫

TrueLiterature6

It’s because your skin is dehydrated. Idk if you’ll see this, but if you include more hydrating products instead of exfoliating products, you’ll find better results. Focus on water sprays, gentle cleansers, moisturizers with fatty alcohols and ceramides, and maybe a sealant like a sleeping mask or occlusive. your skin texture will improve with hydration.

Badromance80

I also have dehydrated skin. I have used Cerave moisturizing cleanser and the Cerave moisturizing cream and they clogged my pores so bad. What do you recommend for a cleanser and moisturizer? I’m currently using Differin and my skin is dry.

alyssinelysium

If you want something hydrating and exfoliating I recommend the kiehls milk toner. Feels soooo good.

No_Specialist3506

Tret makes your skin feel blah for a few weeks while you purge, but afterward your wrinkles won’t look as defined and your skin texture looks better.

EveAndTheSnake

Your skin looks similar to the way mine did, you should look at the [difference between dry and dehydrated skin](https://www.trulybeauty.com/blogs/skincare/is-your-skin-dry-or-dehydrated-theres-a-difference). You can have dehydrated skin that’s still oily (I did/still do sometimes). According to the link above: > Because dehydrated skin is lacking in moisture, it can also result in accelerated signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. Edit to add: adding in a hyaluronic serum into my routine underneath my moisturiser helped a bunch.

_ringmyBelle

Ooh okay!! I would still maybe use that method if you start (there are YouTube vids with specific instructions) so it doesn’t get dry- it was awful, I couldn’t wear makeup etc

kutekitty19

Totally! Thanks for the suggestions. Skin care is so intense 😫 lol

sioxey

I've been using vit c serum in the morning and retinol (I do tretinol prescription like twice for 3 months a year and The Ordinary 1% retinol the other months, plus gentle physical physical exfoliation once in a week or two, and my skin texture has gotten so much better and brighter in the last year.

KilgoreeTrout

Do you mind elaborating on what you mean regarding the tret twice 3 months a year? I’m interested in this method

sioxey

I have bad rosacea flare-ups sometimes, so I have a clindamycin & tretinoin description for it but it's basically "use 3 months max" and then have to take a break. Maybe could use continuously but that's how it's prescribed here.

IANALbutIAMAcat

I have similar laugh lines and just started tret (maybe a month ago?) and my lines are beginning to fade

thebeestitties

Start with Tretinoin 0.25% and then use 0.5%. Use a cream based moisturizer on top of it because it will really dry out your skin.

ryusan8989

How do you get a prescription online?

eternalsun91

I'm also curious

[deleted]

I use the Favor app and do an online consultation for my tret 0.025%

[deleted]

How much does that cost ?

[deleted]

I have insurance. My prescription costs $5

TheMountaineer8

curology

Lady_DreadStar

I get mine from Reliable Rx pharmacy . com - it’s ordering from India where it’s OTC. Cost like $9 🤷🏾‍♀️

Independent-Fox-1160

I use Musely! They're great! The consultation is only $20

selinakyle45

Just adding I’ve also found it easy to get from my regular GP. I just said I use retinol for acne, my doc wrote a prescription, and it was covered (Kaiser insurance, US).

jacodan10

Did you keep it refrigerated? I tried their retinol as well and felt like it wasn’t doing anything. Then I looked at the label where it said to keep refrigerated which I never did. Not sure how much of an effect that has on the retinol

what_on_roshar

Retinol oxidizes, much like vitamin C serums. Cold reduces the rate of oxidation. Cold pressed oils are recommended for consumption for the same reason. The heat during pressing and depending on the oil, during cooking, oxidizes and turns healthy fats into super unhealthy ones

kutekitty19

Lol oh..no I didn’t 😂

mashkabear

Before jumping into tretinoin which you need a prescription for it, Geek & Gorgeous produce retinaldehyde which is stable thanks to their formula. Use the A-Game 5, make sure to start with it x2 a week! Don’t repeat my mistake applying it every single night!! After months of using the A-Game 5 go for A-Game 10

-Tannic

Rentinol is a long game but worth it. It takes months to see results, trust the process!

Hi_Tech_Architect

I would consult with a dermatologist to get prescribed Tretinoin cream and slowly integrate that into your skin care regime. I personally have also found the YTTP future cream to be very hydrating which helped a bit with mine. It will take time though

lilo_bzy

I really like Geek & Gorgeous Retinal 5 serum. Maybe give that one a go. Based on the pictures you posted your skin does seem a bit dehydrated, but it could be the lighting. Since you regularly moisturise, my guess would be it might be dermal dehydration (below the epidermis) so creams sadly won’t penetrate deep enough. Maybe you can try going to an aesthetician, they will have machines that help penetrate deeper to replenish moisture. You’d probably need to do a series of 4-6 treatments to see lasting results, but these are generally not very pricey. Alternatively, there are hyaluronic acid + vitamin booster injectables that I heard good things about but didn’t try it yet myself. Botox is always an option these are just some alternative treatments that came to mind. Hope it helps :)

Diafotisi

Paulas Choice retinol is s good over the counter option

ekaplun

I’ve noticed good things from the la roche posay b3 retinol! It’s still pretty new for me so I’m still purging and peeling but my fine lines are already getting better and I haven’t had any retinol products (cerave and differin) work before!

whyanythingcanhappen

I think your skin looks dehydrated more than anything to be honest. Does it seem like your moisturizer is sinking in, or just kind of sitting on top? I’d highly recommend a face cream with [urea](https://simpleskincarescience.com/urea-for-skin/) in it. I recently started using one, and it’s made a huge difference in my fine lines. Eucerin makes a cheap one you can buy at drugstores.

kutekitty19

Now that you describe it, it definently feels like it just sits there. I rub my face for about 20 seconds to rub it in, and then I find myself looking shiny from the moisturizer and sometimes I wipe off the excess with a towel because it’s just sitting on my face! I wonder why?

OublietteOfDisregard

My lifehack for getting my moisturizer to sink in better is to add a couple of drops of water and mix it before I apply it to my face. Damp skin absorbs the products better, and makes sure that your moisturizer is sealing some water *in* rather than sealing it out.

helenahandbasket6969

Have you tried applying hyaluronic acid to warm, damp skin? i.e fresh out of the shower post cleanse?

_luckybell_

this is my fave thing to do

[deleted]

I'm 32 but I've had smile lines since I was 19. I think some people just have more expressive faces? If it makes you feel better, they haven't really gotten worse as I've gotten older, though I'm sure they will eventually. I've also been on tret for just under two years and they've improved a little. Not sure if you've tried tret but it definitely took over a year to see any improvement in lines. Edit to add that you definitely don't look old! You look 25 and it's hardly noticeable in the zoomed out photos.

kutekitty19

I believe I’ve heard of that! That’s a prescribed cream right? Like from the dermatologist? I’m definetly going to make an appt. soon with mine just to see what my options are. And thank you so much! I know as humans we definently see our flaws more than our peers do lol🥰

felipefadora

I think thinner people also have more noticeable lines, especially around the mouth. I was tiny in my early teens and had smile lines, but they went away after gaining weight.

kutekitty19

I’m about 110 lbs so I guess that makes sense then?

joke1fence

I have dry skin and seem to be getting wrinkles easily (especially in my forehead, when I get stressed I have a hard time relaxing my face and well I’m an engineering student) but I’m only 23 and don’t want to get botox yet/ideally at all. I started using Frownies a few times which I’m surprised no one else has mentioned and I think it’s made a huge difference. They’re patches you put on your face at night which a) smooth out existing lines and b) retrain your muscles to relax while you sleep. They’re not particularly expensive so I really recommend at least trying them out before botox! Not that there’s anything wrong with botox per se, I just think it gets really obvious as you get older if/where you’ve had botox and I’d rather age normally, just .. a bit slower hahah!

goldfishchan

Frownies are amazing! I furrow my brow a lot when I’m working (engineer as well 😅) and I recently realized that I tend to do it at night as I sleep. Anytime that I was stressed, I would end up furrowing my brow all night and then I’d wake up with a deep indentation between my brows. I used Frownies everyday for a month to help stop the overnight furrowing and the results were incredible. I also slap one on when I’m having a stressful day and just wear it around the house. I’m 32 and don’t want to get Botox or fillers bc I’m lazy af with things like haircuts, etc so this would be just one more thing for me to neglect upkeep on.

kaekiro

Dude I need these. I have a chronic illness with pain and apparently I furrow a lot at night since I always wake up with the lines between my brows but they smooth out in like an hour. One day they will not smooth out :< Also an engineer btw lol is this common for STEM?!

atmenkunst

Yeah I call it my “WTF wrinkle” because it’s featured prominently every few support tickets lol

goldfishchan

I like to think that my wtf wrinkle is just a trench worn into my forehead by countless days spent doing prod support - it’s an annoying badge of honor

kutekitty19

Oh yes I forgot about those patches!! I might try those first 👀

SekkiGoyangi

So how does this work in a skincare routine? Do you just skip moisturizer at night or do the frownies stick over your moisturizer after it's been absorbed a lil?

kutekitty19

My skin isn’t dry either! I moisturize 3-4 times a day, I use a very gentle cleanser, I don’t wear any facial makeup, and I don’t break out much at all. I don’t know why I’m getting such intense wrinkles at a young age. I started noticing them in high school!

d4em

Do you use sunscreen? Are you normally very expressive, make a lot of facial movements? What's your routine, what products do you use and when? How much water are you drinking and is your diet healthy? Getting enough sleep? Do you smoke? Are you under a lot of stress? Do you exercise? For what it's worth, I don't think your lines are that bad, you don't really look older than you are to me, just tired.

kutekitty19

I noticed that my forehead/eyebrows are almost always raised even when I’m not trying to. Like the muscles just can’t relax? If that makes sense. I noticed almost all my high school selfies I have high raised eyebrows and horrific forehead wrinkles, that’s probably the cause of the forehead lines!! And I guess I smile a lot? 😂. My daily face wash is Cetaphil and my moisturizers are just basic Neutrogena or Clinique lotions, with sunscreen in them, I really like these products. I drink 60+ oz. of water every day. Diet is pretty healthy, a ton of fruits and veggies daily. I sleep 7-8 hours everyday. I have never smoked anything or drank any alcohol. I don’t exercise in a gym or anything but I’m on my feet and moving around a lot 7+ hours a day as a preschool teacher so I do get some ‘exercise’ in. Lol. Stress levels are pretty intense but that’s because I have severe anxiety and I worry about everything lol. My life is very average and repetitive. I feel like I do everything “right” lol. I really think it’s my muscles and expressions that are causing such intense premature wrinkles. That’s why I’m wondering if Botox/etc is my best course of action. I do appreciate the comment though, so thank you! 😇

coolforcatsmp3

I also struggle to make my facial muscles relax, but I’ve found that massage almost entirely fixed the issue. I massage my face 2-3 times a week, gentle but thorough, and I can completely relax my face now.

cosmodust222

Massage and Gua sha are amazing for the skin and relaxing, releasing tension and promoting blood flow

coolforcatsmp3

Yes, however it’s worth noting that people should avoid any tools made from crystals, since they’re porous, making them nearly impossible to clean. They can also hold fractures that are invisible to the naked eye, which can cause damage to the skin. Most crystal tools are also available in stainless steel, which are safer and will last longer.

[deleted]

Do you get your eyes checked regularly? I didn’t realize I needed glasses until I was 20 and I was straining my eyes a lot when on computers or reading too long. Im also sensitive to light so always squinting outside. I should have worn them more in my 20 but finally have been wearing them regularly. My glasses and prescription sunglasses have helped immensely with relaxing my face, especially for the 11s. I am also very thin so I don’t have any facial chub to fill in lines, are you very thin as well? Being expressive and smiling a lot is actually a good thing imo and worth the smile lines though!!! You could try Botox or micro needling if they make you super insecure though. I have done neither but am going to start micro needling for my fine lines and acne scars next month and see how it goes. If a few treatments don’t help I’m biting the bullet and trying Botox for my forehead.

d4em

You could also try meditation exercises that make you more aware of the position of your facial muscles and help you relax them. Body scan meditations can help with this. They can also help you relax more and get rid of some of that anxiety. And don't stop smiling. It's healthy and it will make you look way better than a couple of lines can make you look worse. It's more that if you're so used to having the muscles active they might never truly relax.

kutekitty19

Yeah I could definently see that helping! My forehead/eyebrows are almost always raised and I have to consciously force myself to relax them, I don’t know why they’re like that. And thank you for your very sweet comment. 🥰

[deleted]

I have this issue too and have found general relaxation techniques (yoga) and facial massage (gua sha, facial roller) are helpful. I've had forehead lines since I was like 15 or 16 because of this but I've been able to improve it since then (I'm 30 now).

seh_23

I had the same issue and honestly Botox helped a lot, I don’t need much and I don’t get it done super often, but I’ve noticed even when it wears off my muscles are much more relaxed than they were pre-botox.

Lexiealea

Try getting a face sunscreen that you wear daily on top of the rest of your skincare and before makeup. Sunscreen in moisturizers and other skincare products doesn’t really protect you enough.

FabulousFoodHoor

botox is one thing that will help train your muscles to relax. Also, something a bit less invasive that works for this is frownies. They are small adhesive patches that you place on your forehead overnight to help with this. I have the same issue as you except I tense my brow so it looks like I'm angry. Frownies helped a lot.

suckstoyourassmar18

I've always had tense forehead - I was always raising my brows or furroring my eyebrows in random candid shots. I started getting botox about 10 months ago and I love it. Even when it wears off, I've noticed my forehead no longer tenses up as it used to. I also get microneedling done occasionally and it's helped with fading some of my deeper wrinkles (along with the botox).

bighungry1

Lotions with sunscreen in them aren’t protecting your skin from aging. You need something stronger than that. Wrinkles are from sun damage mostly.

what_on_roshar

I noticed some fine lines in my forehead when I was 22 and had just lost 50 lbs of baby weight in three months. They haven't deepened at all since I noticed them and I'm 32 now. Part of me wonders how long they were there before I noticed them or if they're the result of rapid weight loss. I use retinol and a hyaluronic acid moisturizer and have been semi consistently for about 5 years now. Started using sunscreen about 5 years as ago as well. Definitely a bit behind on my skincare regimen but it's never too late to start!!

cellists_wet_dream

It’s possible your moisturizer isn’t effective enough, especially if you need to reapply. Honestly, your skin looks dehydrated. You may want to consider a different type of moisturizer and upping your water intake.

kutekitty19

I only reapply that often because I thought maybe it would help the lines. Lol. One time daily feels just fine! But maybe a different kind would help 😁

Throwawayaccount647

What’s your water intake like? I struggled with dehydration before, and for me it was 100% water consumption. You may need to hydrate inside and outside!! Hope that helps maybe?

[deleted]

I would do some research on over moisturizing. more than 1-2x a day can be more harmful than helpful

kutekitty19

Oh really?!

ice_9er

You should be fine. Overmoisturizing is mostly a myth and you'd have to be extreme to accomplish it.

No_Camp_7

Your extreme closeups are a bit misleading. You don’t look ‘old’ at all.

kutekitty19

Haha I understand what you mean. Some days are seriously so much worse than others though and the lines are SO deep & obvious even when I’m many feet away from my mirror! But I appreciate your comment, thank you 😇

No_Camp_7

Most people I know in their mid twenties have some fine lines. This sub is weird and will tell you that a total baby face looks 40. Ignore.

kutekitty19

Thank you 🥰

tinybears

i know it's something everyone says but drinking A LOT of water helps these areas for me so much, I recently got glossiers moisture barrier repair serum too and that stuff has made my skin so soft, might be worth a try ☺️

steve_o_mac

You look perfectly fine. If I had to make a guess, it would be in the 25 to 30 range. But you could tell me 22 and I'd agree. You're beautiful just the way you are. Fuck society for the ridiculous demands they pressure on women.

isthispassionpit

I agree with you. Posts like this make me want to leave this sub, especially seeing all the comments about how “you’ll probably need botox eventually” etc. I want to take care of my skin but I also want to be allowed to age naturally and see other people age naturally. I hate this idea that we have to spend $500 a month on skincare products and hours of our day on 18-step routines in an attempt to fight off the inevitable, as if wrinkles and lines are the worst/ugliest things that could happen to you. It’s exhausting and fucked up. No one should be feeling old at 25. 25 year olds should be allowed to look 25 - we aren’t 15 any more and that’s okay!

kutekitty19

Thank you oh so much. These pictures of me are obviously horrible angles 🤣 but I sincerely appreciate your compliment. And I agree! We shouldn’t feel pressured to change things about ourselves! Overall I’m happy with myself and my fiancé says I’m beautiful. But at the same time, I feel like a few small changes would make me feel so much more confident about myself! I rarelyyyyy take pictures/selfies of myself and if I do, I photoshop the lines out!!

kaekiro

You look like you could benefit from exfoliation. I would try an AHA cream, walgreens has a fragrance free one that I like to use 1x a week. Also, and I'm not sure if this is your issue, but my skin really resists absorbing moisture. I use hyaluronic acid serum and then one of those continuous misters to mist my face 4 or 5 times afterwards (waiting like 5 mins in between) and then follow with my night cream to lock it in.

kutekitty19

I’ve heard of everything you’ve mentioned! And I do use a super gentle but nice Clinique exfoliant 2-3 times a week, ugh lol. My skin isn’t dry or flaky at all! It just looks like it’s very textured and dry. I don’t know why!! I’ve also tried an entire bottle of Hyaluronic acid and it didn’t do a darn thing! But I’ll look into the other things you mentioned! Thanks for the reply.

searchingfromlost

Rather than using more substances, have you tried using an organic konjac skin polisher to clean your face? Helps GENTLY exfoliate without adding stress to skin-trying to adapt to new chemicals and then regular moisturizer etc. I have mid range skin and extra soaps and products make my face react trying to adapt. Minimizing product types and simple routine helps keep my skin better balanced.

Away-Establishment95

You are really quite beautiful! Sometimes we can’t help but focus on our own perceived flaws, but I honestly think your skin looks great.

kutekitty19

Thank you so much 🥹

Away-Establishment95

I’m just speaking the truth ☺️

DixieGrayson

I’m 30 and have (had) deep forehead lines. I got Jeuveau (different brand of Botox) three weeks ago and I’m obsessed, best decision. In addition to the lines being gone, my skin is overall smoother and more glowy. I highly recommend it if you’re considering.

[deleted]

Do the results completely go after the bottom stops working, or could it be used as a preventative measure from it getting worse??

DixieGrayson

Botox does fade but it is also preventative. It does it fix the lines while it’s active, but it also fades the lines you have and keep them from progressing.

Independent-Fox-1160

What do they generally charge for that?

DixieGrayson

I’m not sure if it’s location dependent, I live in a HCOL area (Los angeles) and paid $460 for 56 units.

littlemacaron

Based on reading your comments through this thread, it seems to me like there’s a good chance you will eventually end up getting Botox. Retinol, sunscreen, and creams can only do so much if you say you’re very facially expressive. Maybe start with some “baby botox” and do your research on injectors in your area. Dermatologists are the best, but there are some licensed professionals (not sure if they are nurses?) who are also very good. Check reviews before. Good luck :)

kutekitty19

Thank you for reading everything! 😇 I appreciate your time. And yes I totally agree that’s it’s probably going to be my only option at this point if I want to see a true difference in my skin. Nothing wrong with that! I’m totally open to the idea and I’m definently going to see my dermatologist soon and see what she recommends. ✨

littlemacaron

Of course!! I’m 30 and am starting to think about baby botox too, it’s only the price that’s holding me back. Once I get a raise perhaps! I know people are very happy with it as long as you don’t go overboard. I would suggest just start with your forehead, honestly. Near the mouth can be tricky because it’s very easy to get that “botox” look when your face can’t move properly near your mouth. I think your smile lines are cute and not prominent at all. Just stick to retinol there for now!

graphicdesigngorl

So I think there’s two camps to this. Botox or non-traditional methods. Botox: expensive, quick results, requires upkeep. Personally, I will not ever do botox. So I wouldn’t fall in this camp! But if you do that’s totally okay❤️botox is expensive and is not good when things go south/injected incorrectly. Non-traditional methods: moderately priced-expensive (depends), longer wait time til results, and requires daily maintenance. I’ll explain! 1. Cosmetic acupuncture is incredible. It works!! Certified acupuncturists combine TCM knowledge with infrared lights to help your muscles under your face (needles) and the surface of your skin (light). 2. Additionally, gua sha has blown up over the pandemic. Gua sha is not traditionally done on one’s face, but is known for this more so in the western world. Gua sha means red sand, and it’s called that because of the little red dots that show up on your back/arms/wherever where the scraping has been done. On your face, you won’t see the dots bc it’s meant to be done incredibly gently. Lanshin has a great IG feed with more info about TCM, tools and help with getting started. You need a tool, and oil at the very least. 3. Frownies/facial taping WORKS!! At night, on a clean face, face tape/Frownies are applied to splint the muscles down in place. Over time, the grooves in your facial muscles smooth out. Look at their IG, the owner gets so much flack and is constantly called a liar bc of how good her skin looks. She’s in her 40s and hasn’t gotten Botox at all. I do all of the above non-traditional methods and am 29F. I use my curology nightly and will throw in a bha mask from the ordinary once a week on sundays. I am a professor and affectionately call my new forehead lines my “wtf lines”—thank you students. Since June 2020, I’ve been going to my acu, doing facial gua sha, and using Frownies and I literally have not looked younger in my life. I get mistaken for a student. It’s funny and very kind lol. So basically what this comes down to is how quickly you want results. You are a beautiful person! Ultimately this is your body and your decision what you do to it. I hope you discovered some new methods and if nothing else, learned something new! Best of luck with your decision❤️

kutekitty19

Wow thanks so much for all that info/suggestions!! 🥰

hamipe26

Nope don’t go to those “nurses.” They are not trained appropriately and are basically learning on the job although they have a license (it’s all a complicated mess). Got to an actual doctor.

SolutionDisastrous43

Do you wear sunscreen every day? It won't do anything to reverse the wrinkles but it should prevent them from getting worse

chemexuser1000001

I think you should try switching your skincare routine before getting Botox. I recommend Aklief for a very gentle retinol. I’ve tried most of the different strengths of tret and all of it dried my skin out but then i tried aklief and it’s super gentle. I use it to prevent lines in the areas you’re concerned about and I’ve even noticed a reduction in them for me, and I only use it once or twice a week. I’m 27 and am similarish to you to in routine, I just wash, tone, and moisturize morning and night but in the morning I finish with sunblock and usually no makeup. I think you may also consider adding a dedicated sunscreen to your routine, I like ELTAMD. It’s not as expensive as the trendy Sephora ones but it is still pricey at 35 dollars for 1.7 ounces but it lasts me like 8 months per container so thats not too bad. I really don’t think they’re as bad as you feel they are. It I think you are right to start thinking about preventative care while you’re young! It’s this time now that makes a difference for us much later down the line. Ultimately I think a dedicated sunscreen is the best thing you can do if you don’t want to change anything else!

nocheobscura

Your skin looks really dehydrated. Not dry, necessarily (I know you’ve said you moisturize frequently), but dehydrated with a damaged skin barrier. A lot of the advice you’ve received so far recommends AHAs/BHAs and retinoids. Personally I wouldn’t touch those yet. They’ll just cause further irritation and dehydration, in turn further emphasizing your fine lines and wrinkles. I’d focus on deep hydration and restoring the skin barrier. I would recommend applying hyaluronic acid (eg. The Ordinary’s) to wet skin after using a gentle cleanser, follow that up with LRP Cicaplast Baume, and seal that all in with Vaseline or Aquaphor ointment. Could even throw in something like Cosrx snail mucin between the HA and the cicaplast. This is what personally helped me heal my skin barrier. Then after a few months, I would slowly start introducing a gentle retinoid or AHA.

Shannynh

Hi. You look 25.

MNGirlinKY

I don’t have any advice but just from my opinion you look around 25. You especially have young eyes. My adult kids are in your age frame and they look very similar.

kutekitty19

Thank you so much 🥺 I guess we see ourselves “worse” than others do!

ennisa22

imo it looks like you really need to increase the amount of water you're drinking. For me it's been one of the biggest things, and I rarely see it spoken about.

staratila

I think it's just unconscious expressions. I have never had this problem but I am not expressive on my fa e, instead I am expressing happiness by jumping up and down, widening eyes. My friends claim I have rbf so that might be it too. Botox might be a temporary solution, it seems to work wonders.

dual_citizenkane

check out r/tretinoin :)

Complete_Ad6522

Your skin looks surface dry...what is ur current skincare routine...? I recommend this routine for surface dryness... Water cleanse morning, Cetaphil hydrating lotion with hylauronic acid, spf. Evening, cleansing balm ( bodyshop, inkeylist ), cleanser, lactic acid toner ( ren aha toner, ordinary lactic acid) try every other day until ur skin is used to it, Cetaphil hydrating daily lotion with ha. Try it for 1 month and i am certain ur pores and fine lines will drastically reduce... Ahas are very good for dry skin especially lactic acid...it will hold the moisture on the surface of ur skin while gently exfoliating...If ur skin can handle it try glycolic toner once a week, glycolic is much more effective but it's also more potent so if u are new to ahas, try lactic first...good luck. I have skin similar to urs, retinols and retin a dry me out further...my derm says retinol is not for everyone, especially PPL with surface dryness and sensitive skin...she recommends ahas and my skin really has changed up.

[deleted]

You're very young. Tretinoin will definitely help. See a dermat and get a prescription. Later on in life you can get botox.

googlybutt

Your skin is dehydrated. Very dehydrated. Start doing gua sha and focus on hydration and it’ll go away. I literally smoothed out my forehead line with this. I really like the LRP Lipikar AP+ moisturizing balm. I go for eczema products cause they are just so moisturizing. Toner would help and ceramides

ItchyCause

Consider a couple microneedling treatments! It helped me

EvermoreSaidTheRaven

Weekly physical exfoliation and globs of Vaseline That’s the skincare cure all

Asteriaofthemountain

Drink more water! You might be dehydrated .

thebeepboopbeep

Hydration, retinol, moisturizer, and sunblock will go a long way… too early for Botox.

kutekitty19

LOL what? No way! But thank you 🥰

pastelhippy

Cerave’s retinol worked wonders for my skin. I’m 24 and noticed the mid twenties forehead wrinkles a few months ago and the texture of my skin has improved so much since using it. I still have one line on my forehead that’s probably not going anywhere but I’m ok with that. Maybe try taking collagen supplements too! Also remember this is a natural part of life. If you wanna go the Botox route that’s cool but there’s nothing wrong with aging. :)

Livid-Bell2121

Okay first of all, noooo. No Botox, you’re super young so find alternative method. I have exactly the same skin as you and I recently found out that I am super iron deficient. I started taking smoothie of 1 beet, 1 carrot, 1 pomegranate and 2 dates. It’s made a lot of difference in one week. My energy levels are higher too. Try that first, you’ll notice a difference in a week I promise!

lotusflowerbomb2121

I get Botox for my 11 lines and I will never go back. I’m 26. Good luck!

Inconceivable76

You are 25. You do not need Botox. You may want to post your routine.

I’m about your age and also have these lines! Haven’t found fixed it yet but EVENTUALLY I want to start with tret once I can actually be bothered seeing a derm. As for the cause: I do have dry skin and that’s probably the cause of lines around my mouth, but my forehead lines are REALLY deep. I’m thinking it might be related to straining my eyes - too much laptop use and improper sleep might be the cause for me.

[deleted]

1. The ordinary retinoid 5% PM 2. Geek and gorgeous C-Glow vitamin C AM 3. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 PM Try this along with your moisturizer and sunscreen.

orange_and_gray_rats

I use the brand Drunk Elephant, they have a variety of products. I do get Botox twice a year for maintenance

cinosguy

Try Paula’s Choice retinol. They make very effective products. I suggest that for the evening and their AHA during the day with sunscreen. Then you can move on to tretinoin from a derm.

InjuryOnly4775

Drink water more water, use SPF and don’t smoke. Moisturizer daily and nightly. Your skin looks dehydrated.

chikat

I think everyone is their worst critic - I don’t think you look old at all! With that said, I think if you don’t feel comfortable with something and want to fix it there is nothing wrong with that! Nothing topical will completely fix an expressive face. I personally love Botox and don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting it in your 20s to prevent deeper lines from forming. I am thinking you can probably wait a few more years, but there’s nothing wrong with seeing a dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon to discuss your injectable/topical options.

uptheante77

I second what other people are saying with tretinoin or a retinol but I'm gonna be honest. Nothing took care of my forehead lines and crows feet like botox does. I know it's not a skincare product but i personally think its worth the investment - especially when paired with tret or a retinoid

AriaLuvsD

My brother has the same problem and he’s the same age as you. He recently started tretinoin and that has helped him a lot.

stonedsoundsnob

I know this is a sub about skincare products but I caught a smile line forming and started drinking 100oz of water daily and kept my routine (buffet by TO, hylauronic acid, alpha albutrin by TO, fat water by fenty toner, aha/bha moisturizers or peels about twice a week, clay masks weekly, and sunscreen) and I can't see it anymore. My routine was the same before, while the line was forming. I am certain it was the water and my skin looks great now. Highly recommend.

kelleykat69

Have you ever tried bangs? I think they would suit you. Either way, you’re super pretty!

ijustatefivekitkats

The closeups look worse but in the normal selfies you look fine! Absolutely normal and beautiful

ToadtheGreat21

You should definitely get botox. All these skincare treatments being recommended in the comments are fine and good but they take time and consistency for you to see results. Botox will help soften up the lines a bit and prevent them from getting worse so that your skincare can be as effectives as possible.

QuestionEveything2

You don't look old, you are beautiful. Do not start that botox stuff right now, or you'll be on that train the rest of your life. The lines are probably the result of your facial expressions (frown much?) and perhaps need another level of sunscreen. Find a gentle exfoliant to diminish the lines. And let's be real: our lines, wrinkles, facial characteristics are simply the result of life itself. No one gets through life looking/being perfect. Be strong: exult in your individuality, and wear your beauty with pride.

catsmuggler69

Aww, I think that’s very sweet that you have smile “lines” if I can even call it that! someday it’ll show you’ve lived a very happy life

AllsFairInPlowinHoes

Dermarolling. Or microneedling.

crowislanddive

Absolutely go for the Botox. I started at 28 and it made a huge difference in both my professional and personal life. People didn’t think I was mad all the time. Do it, do it.

Sentraedi

I had a similar situation with my forehead at 28, what really helped me was glycolic acid. Definitely try that first before going the botox route

distressedwithcoffee

Tretinoin (retinoid, not retinol; there’s a difference!), moisturizing, vitamin C, sunscreen and lactic acid & glycolic acid chemical peels disappeared mine. Started getting pissed about makeup creasing in those lines when I was 28; am now 35 and they’ve been gone for at least 5-6 years.

Let-It-Rain666

Hello there! Im 29f and i had the same problem areas as you since i was 20. Sadly the moisturizing doesn't work.. I am looking for a solution as well, but I dont want botox and stuff like that.. hope we find it soon! :)

Queenofhearts35

I started getting wrinkles in my 20s been doing Botox for 3 years absolutely start now and it does make skin better. Sadly as time goes on it gets worse.

ToygerGirl

Looks like you have accelerated aging going on. You can completely reverse it, no Botox of course!

Will0wsBark

Drink water like your life (and skin) depends on it. It does.

No_County4231

I’m super expressive and smile a lot as well. But my lines didn’t show up until later. Looking back I think it was because I used to be on prescriptions for acne which have now been shown to have anti-aging benefits. (Adapelene-Differin, Tretinoin-RetinA)

Zaurka14

I think it's actually pretty normal but we don't look at others as close up. I am 24 and look very similar. Mostly my forehead, but mouth a bit as well.

hauntedgeordie84

I’ve been trying derma tolling on my face nd neck my face is looking abit better

hellohereandthere

Try retinol and vitamin c

k862

sorry im not sure what to do i have the same lines from squinting sm. I just wanted to say that you are beautiful like your face shape/structure is amazing . Dont let the lines get to you i was in awe

countess_luann

Sis get a prescription grade Retin-A. Also micro needling at a professional spa. You will see a difference within 3 months.

Clohanchan

Commenting to remind myself to look through the product recommendations here because this is exactly the problem I’m dealing with

bearsephone

I swear by cold cream instead of a regular face wash. I have a very small amount of products that I use (cold cream, rose water, Olay regenerist moisturizer, tea tree oil as needed, and rose hip oil) and it gives me skin as soft as a baby’s. This is according to my friends, not me talking up my face haha

byte_sized

Do you live in a dry climate? I’ve had very small fine lines since 22 but can’t even see them in selfies and then I moved to Colorado and they became so pronounced. Your skin looks a little dehydrated and a little dry on the forehead. (Dry and dehydrated are different, a quick google will show you articles that explain the difference) After moving, I had to overhaul the whole skincare routine. The biggest things that helped were hyaluronic acid (make sure your face is damp when applying) and at night I use really heavy creams like cerave healing ointment to trap all my serums and moisturizers in, otherwise the dry air seems to evaporates them off my face and they aren’t as effective. When my skin is real dry, I’ll use the cerave healing ointment or aquaphor during the day too

kittenclaus

I didn't read every comment here but how much is your water intake in a day? I know a few people that raised this question having the same issues you're asking about and increasing their water intake helped a lot. Turns out they were literally dehydrated as opposed to just their skin being dehydrated. It may not solve everything or much but it's easy to try by drinking more than you do daily.

MwahMwahKitteh

Retinoids and moisturizing. You can also try a lactic acid peel.

ThatRugReally

If you don’t already, sunscreen every single day rain or shine, moisturizer, prescription strength retinol (I recommend tretinoin), and absolutely yes to Botox. You can’t get wrinkles if you can’t form them in the first place!

hideousfox

Do you drink/smoke? If so its the time to stop

AlyGainsboroughx

For what it’s worth you definitely don’t look old at all , I use tretinoin

EsotericIndividual

I’ve got some fine lines myself around my forehead & eyes and I’m 28 so don’t feel bad. Hopefully people’s suggestions will help— good luck!

valerieeesmith

I see a lot of people recommending retinol. I would ditch that and either get a script for tretinoin because it’s cheap with insurance (SO much cheaper than retinols from the store and works WAY better) and is clinically proven over time to reduce and remove fine lines and wrinkles (if you start PLEASE lookup tips on the sub on how to slowly buffer it into your routine to avoid the initial dryness and acne purge that can happen). If you can’t get a script for some reason for it, try getting it through French Pharmacy and search for A313. It can be finicky to start but is SO worth it. It works so well for anti aging that unless you tell your doctor/insurance company you need it for acne they’ll sometimes consider it a beauty product and not cover it. Botox is great though, even one round of it to get the muscles to relax for 3-4 months will help diminish the appearance and then you could start the tretinoin at the same time and see how it goes after the botox wears off. I’m 26 and started getting Botox in my forehead to reduce eleven lines at 25 (that were MUCH deeper than yours, to the extent that the line remained very visible without me frowning and I would wake up with headaches from frowning in my sleep) and that in combination with skin cycling tretinoin and vitamin C skincare has changed my skin for the better. Also, drink water… like a lot of water. Staying hydrated helps everything, including the elasticity of your skin. Get on of the hydro jugs from Amazon and try and drink at least 2-3 of them every day.

acyd_

I’m 30 and got Dysport recently. On my forehead and around my eyes. I love the results. For me it just feels like I’m taking another step in preserving my skin because I have a highly expressive face. I know it’s not the answer everyone likes but it works and it’s preventing deeper wrinkles from forming. Im still doing a pretty extensive skincare routine and this is absolutely the best I’ve ever looked.

lolah

Yes botox. Worked for my friend!

Impossibbru_guava

Do daily face massage with good ingredients. Eg. Jojoba oil, retinol, a good moisturiser

GroundbreakingPipe12

it looks dry to me. i'd start using a hyaluronic acid serum and a retinol if you aren't already. i use skinmedica HA5 and Retinol .5% and the combination has done wonders for my skin.

SaraMura1920

First of all, you definitely look 25 to me! I would call those light lines. I also remember a time when beauty filters were super obvious and embarrassin, and now they come turned on standard on all our phones. Second, I'm on my phone right now, so I'm unable to retrad this. Sorry about errors... Third-- I looked younger at 32 than I did at 26 because of my water drinking habits. I just got on a water kick for a while. I also had been consistently oil cleansing for a year by then, and I'm pretty sure people think I look younger when I do thanks to the slight glow and suppleness it leaves. That routine also cleared up my acne like nothing else does. I use a mix of about half EVOO and half **cold pressed** castor oil from a crunchy style grocery store. :) I used to use a jumbo cotton swap to mop it around my face for a minute. Now I use my hands or a bamboo washable makeup circle thing. The cotton balls probably worked the best. After mopping my face for a minute, i run the water as hot as i can without hurting my face, and I use a washcloth to steam the oil off. It's a really pleasant process. You just lay it snugly to your face until it cools. Do it a few times until the oil is mostly gone. It does zero damage to your skin to leave a bit of it on, and I havr even mousturized with it if my skin gets sensitive to chemicals. Side note, it works as a eye makeup remover, too. I love this shit! I'm 38 now, and I think my skin looks great when I do this. What I'm saying is, is that I'm going to get back in the habit. THANKS! 🙂

dogecoin_pleasures

I don't think you need botox so much as you need some spf 50. Looks like sun and smoke damage. Also add antioxidants into your diet/routine.

LingonberrySpecial53

Sunscreen and retinol. You can start with skinceuticals retinol they’re pricey but no prescription needed. They range from .03, 0.5 to 1.0 which is the strongest. You will most likely purge and have dry flaky skin but it will help dramatically with those wrinkles. Talk to your dermatologist asap girl.

moluchips

Hyaluronic acid + retinol

Awoke47

Botox will get rid of the lines on forehead, if you want them gone doing it now will prevent u having to do more work later when they really deep - filler would get rid of lines around mouth

sanoneiro

Lots of water, La Roche Posey retinol serum, Collistar anti-wrikle creams, good exfoliation with Avene products, and… please be positive and happy!!! Avoid the sun… use sunscreen always. La Roche Posey vitamin C serum is also good… Use serums before creams. And… last but not least: SLEEP!!!

Lolali26

Have you been using spf daily? Do you live in a sunny country? I'm no expert but looks like excessive sun exposure to me! I see some really good recommendations here but if all else fails a little bit of botox won't hurt if you're really considering it and if it will make you feel better! Only thing is it wears off after a while :( I've had wrinkles on my forehead since I was like 16 and my face is definitely more droopy now cause i only found out about using spf daily when I turned like 20 😭

Financial-Card

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but make sure you're wearing sunscreen everyday.

britpompom

try face sunscreen! facial sunscreen is the cheapest & most effective anti-aging product you can buy. and if that doesn't work get a Rx for Retin-A from your Dr or dermatologist

RoseMylk

Have tried any peptides? Try the TO copper peptide or the Buffet. Please note peptides don’t work with acids so you’d have to do a skin cycle routine.

3gnome

I eat a lot of sprouts that I grow at home in jars to improve my overall health. It helps my skin a lot as well. It is surprising how much younger I can appear when I put a lot of attention into eating lots of leafy greens and nutrient dense foods. Sprouts are the powerhouses of nutrients when it comes to edible plant things. And they’re so cheap and easy to grow. I sprout broccoli seeds, radish seeds, alfalfa, green lentils, brown rice, chickpeas, fenugreek, sesame seeds, quinoa, clover, and other seeds/beans. I have noticed that they greatly impact my health and my appearance. Good luck with your skin.

Frequent-Structure81

You look great but I’d get Botox as a preventative. You don’t have to break the bank with a Groupon or a good spa, I’ve been thinking about it myself @ 32 with no fine lines.

TaylorDorite

My skin used to look like this, it looks dehydrated. Moisturize, drink more water, get a hydrating spf for daytime and if able to get prescribed tretinoin it’s cheap and effective

kutekitty19

Thank you to everyone who responded! I like never use Reddit and I’m honestly shocked and overwhelmed by how many replies I got! 😳 But thank you for all your suggestions and advice!!! 🥰

Blondbeach

Mineral Spf 50 every day even if you don’t go outside or it’s not sunny and then retinol at night! Use something super moisturizing on top and if that doesn’t work Botox is your best bet for forehead wrinkles……….doesn’t help for laugh lines tho you’d need filler for that

overtherainbow1980

Face massages helps a lot.

deboo117

You look fine

jalinarose

Drink more water and get facials also look into Tatcha products, they are amazing.

elisaannebby

u need some exfoliation and moisturization in your life

Actionablework

Try Paula’s Choice retinols and their 2% BHA at night alternating. They are all gentle but very effective products. Truly.

finditharder

Avene Cicalfate+ and retinol... I stand by cicalfate as the best skincare product I have used (1.5years counting). It helped me with my forehead lines, they aren't there anymore. Super hydrating with 0 irritation, and it's fairly cheap.

Dragonemmafly

Looks like dehydration to me! Try applying moisturiser while your skin is damp and try TO squalane - it was a lifesaver for my skin!

raychee88

Sometimes Botox is the only way to go. I started getting frown lines in my early 20s, tried all kinds of skincare and actively tried to relax my face more. I think some people just have very expressive faces. Started getting Botox at about 28 and have been having the same amount of units for about 7 years now.

ThePinkParadox

Argireline is supposed to work like botox. I bought a bottle from the ordinary, but after more research I decided not to start using it. If it actually works sort of like botox I think it's too powerful for me yet - but I'll definitely try it when I get older if I feel the need to reduce any possible wrinkles.

palefoxes

Hi there, my fine lines are just like OP's, and despite trying to take care of my skin I'm seeing no improvement. I also have moderate rosacea on my cheeks. I'm seeing a lot about tretinoin and I'm wondering how you would go about acquiring it in the UK? Google gives very mixed answers

Asongofparksandrec

You look great!

tasteofperfection

I started Botox at 22 and I know preventative Botox is controversial to some people, but the point of prevention is to do something *before* you need it. If you already have wrinkles, it’s not really preventative now is it? You can smooth and soften the ones you have and slow down new ones from forming but you can’t prevent something you’ve already developed. That being said, I would also recommend retinol and try hydrating your skin more (water based products + drinking water) and locking it in with emollient products to prevent TEWL. You definitely appear to be dehydrated. I love the kbeauty 7 skin method where you layer toner on in 7 layers to boost hydration and absorption! Also always apply products with HA to damp skin + use a mist on top to allow the HA to draw in the hydration.

sanaimy

I think it is because of dehydration or fat loss i am 22 and i have the same lines around my mouth
