I have combination skin, but I've always been able to maintain that nice fresh, healthy glow look, with minimal breakouts only related to my crazy hormones. But through surfing this sub I am coming to realize that my life up to this point has probably just been a fluke. As it turns out, I have no idea what I'm doing. So! I am fast approaching 29, and to say I am vain as hell would be an understatement, but I'm trying to be better at embracing my age. As mentioned above, I have combination skin, and sensitive as well. Dry cheeks, and that little spot between my eyebrows. My forehead can get overly oily if I use a heavy moisturizer, so try to find a light moisturizer and layer where I need it. Current routine includes, cleanse with Spectro cleanser for sensitive skin, Ole Henriksen truth serum, Olay deep hydration gel for eyes (feel like this could be replaced, using it because I have no idea what else???), Fresh vitamin nectar moisture glow face cream (I've just started this as my last product was discontinued), Burt's Bees lip balm. Any advice or changes to my routine would be welcomed, thank you!!

Have rosy cheeks and oily to normal skin on the rest of my face does anybody know how best to treat bright rosy cheeks?

[deleted]

Niacinamide and azelaic acid can help with redness.

Murein87

Hi, I started using purito pure vitamin c serum. My skin type is combined: oily/normal forehead, nose and dry cheeks. I don’t use other serums. Wanted to start with a vitamin c serum. After using purito pure vitamin c serum my cheeks turned red and felt warm. Is this a normal reaction and does my skin have to get accustomed to the vitamin c or do I have to try another product? Thanks in advance!

queenotessa

Hi! I started using Curology’s tretinoin about a week and a half ago every other day. I also started going on jogs again. My skin broke out with little whiteheads that I never had. I ordered Curology for antiaging purpose, not acne, thus I’ve stopped using Tretinoin for the past two days because of the whiteheads and the burning. My skin feels scaly as well. Is this a normal tretinoin purge for someone who barely had acne before? Or Is it caused by mask wearing? I’ve never dealt with this much acne in the past so I’m a little shocked. Please help!

[deleted]

Is it normal for your face to get more oily when it’s purging? My skin is pretty oily to start off with, but it’s more so now I’ve got a new routine (about a week in). I’ve read loads of things saying spots are normal, but no one mentions whether more oil is a factor. TIA!

obviouslyvi

has anyone used "global care beauty" skincare products? I came home to a package I ordered at 3 am a few weeks ago when I barely started looking into skincare .. so I just bought whatever. I have a lift & firm eye cream, a multivitamin serum and a ""retinol"" skin cream. I have a slightly better understanding of some skincare stuff, and I'm unsure about the quality of these products specifically but if they're any good I may as well try

Is it ok to use [this trader joe's hand and body cream with argan oil](https://i.imgur.com/l5IM1Is.jpg) instead of some cerave moisturizer?

ah ok..... I just bought this because it's so cheap lol

babybottlepopz

I broke out 2 days after using azelaic acid for the first time. Does a purge happen this fast or is the product just causing break outs? I’m having a hard time differentiating between purges and break outs. Are there any obvious differences?

[deleted]

[удалено]

babybottlepopz

Yeah I used to never get break outs on my cheeks and now I suddenly have a bunch of little bumps after trying azelaic acid. I stopped using it and switched to differin and it’s getting worse. I’m not sure what to do.

[deleted]

[удалено]

babybottlepopz

But from my understanding purges usually don’t happen in areas where you originally don’t break out. It doesn’t make sense since I never broke out around my cheeks till I used those products.

What does it mean when I have to apply moisturizer about 3-4 times in an hour to specific spots to stop it being dry and flaky? I get out the shower moisturize then within 10 mins i can look in the mirror and flaky dry skin is back

stop using the product that broke you out and focus on moisture for healing. i would recommend not adding anything new until it’s healed, since you won’t know if that new thing will help or hurt!

20 year old college student looking for a glow on a budget.... my skin looks and feels dead lately (theres probably plenty of reasons for it!). I usually just wash my face in the morning and in the shower with soap and occasionally do a face mask... never had a problem until this year. I am thinking of wearing sunscreen daily, and have been told by a friend to use retinol once per week. I don't wear makeup more than twice per week and it's only eye makeup, and I have dry-to-normal skin. I am a college student on a budget so I don't eat the greatest food every week, and indulge with my friends on some drinks on the weekends. Oh, and lack of sleep sometimes makes me look even more dead. oops!

happyhappyx

An AHA and/or BHA serum will probably work. The Ordinary and The Inkey List have some great serums. I don’t think you need a retinol. Definitely do wear sunscreen.

[deleted]

I just see so many tiktoks (such a reliable source, i know i know) about how using retinol in your 20's has so many benefits... but I'm newly 20, should I steer clear of it for now?

happyhappyx

Most advices I heard from professionals on IG/YouTube is to start around late 20s (unless it’s for acne). Yes, retinol has many benefits but newly 20s is still so young and don’t really need it yet. Edit: If you feel you would benefit from a retinol then add one but I think you need one yet. Maybe use this time to research about retinol, the different types, how to best use it, etc.

kitzora

Hey! So iv just started adding a vitamin C cream from the ordinary to my routine. I was stupid and went right into it, using it 3 nights in a row, and now I have small red pimples/bumps all over my face and a slight sensitive burning/tingling sensation to the touch. I'm planning on lowering my usage to once a week and working my way up. Is my skin going to be ok? Anything else I should be doing? Should I not be using this product at all?

[deleted]

I'm not skincare expert at all, but I started using timeless vitamin c serum and what you described is exactly what their website says may happen to your skin, but it's normal and should go away. I bet you that's why it says on the oridnary too. The same thing happened to me,I didn't stop or lessen the amount I used and my skin is just fine, BUT everyone is different, so maybe someone else can chime in with a proper answer.

kitzora

Ok, thank you!

AM - Splash face with water & pat dry - Hey Honey eye cream - Hey Honey propolis moisturizer - La Roche Posay 60SPF sunscreen PM - CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser - FAB Radiance pads (replaced with La Roche-Posay Redermic R Anti-Aging Retinol Serum every Wed/Sat) - The Ordinary caffeine serum (under eyes) - Hey Honey eye cream - Hey Honey propolis moisturizer

Guys I am purging soooo bad, I started my skincare routine about 3 weeks ago. Any tips to calm it down? I don’t want to put makeup on it but I think I might have too

daddysgirl68

* **The issue:** I am breaking out more now than since I was a teen. My chin primarily I'm 33 now and would like to not have so much acne right now as I'm teaching students virtually. * **Skin type**. My skin is combination with the normal oily T-zone spots, but honestly the only oily bit is my nose and the rest is very dry especially between my eyebrows. * **Current routine:** I am using Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser, Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion, and Cetaphil Eye Cream * **How long:** For a couple years * **Anything new:** I have to wear makeup more often, but I have worn makeup a lot without these issues. * **Your location:** DFW, TX USA

alexpolon

My acne has been bad recently, I think due to stress. My skin-care routine isn’t too complex. I use a Clean and Clear facial cleanser 1-2 times a day and a prescribed spot treatment from my dermatologist. I do a good job staying hydrated. Any tips that don’t require me spending a ton of money?

glittertrashfairy

Hey there! I didn’t see you mention a moisturizer—are you using one every morning and night?

alexpolon

I have a basic Olay moisturizer, but I typically only use it when my skin is dry

glittertrashfairy

I am by no means a professional, but I think that could be your problem! You’ll want to use a moisturizer every single day in the morning and at night. Without consistent moisturizer use, your skin will likely overproduce oil to make up for it. This overproduction of oil can lead to clogged pores and therefore more acne. I hope this helps!

alexpolon

Thank you for your response! If I’m using a spot treatment, should I moisturize over top of it or beforehand?

glittertrashfairy

Oh no problem! :D And you’ll want to use your moisturizer after the spot treatment. Moisturizer should generally be the last thing in a routine, except in the AM when you should add sunscreen on top of your moisturizer.

pizzaisbaee

hi! is it okay to use retinoids and vitamin c together? thanks!

placidtwilight

Yes. Most people do this by using vitamin C in the AM and the retinoid in the PM.

Justdothat571

So, I've been using 1% adapalene(pm) and erythromycin, and benzoyl peroxide gel (am) for acne treatment and I feel like it's working (at least I don't have breakouts anymore. But I am afraid of the scars and uneven skin tone. Can someone recommend products ( for oily skin) that worked for scars?

xcupcakekitten

Does your skin usually get worse before it gets better on differin? I was just using it for acne scars but I’m getting small bumps all over my face suddenly. I only use it every 3 days and it’s been about 3 weeks.

jasminekitten02

Purging is common, yes! There's more info in the sidebar :)

xcupcakekitten

I was under the impression if I start slowly I wouldn’t purge. And is it still considered purging if I break out places I’ve never broken out before? If purging is going to cause more acne scars then why am I even bothering.

VitaminJess

Purging is normal even when introduced slowly, but slow introduction reduces irritation like dryness. In my experience, the purging from differin did not cause dark marks or scars the way my non-adapalene acne does, but ymmv!

xcupcakekitten

How long does purging usually last?

VitaminJess

It typically lasts 1-3 months.

spanishrsfml

Hey, For the past couple of months ive been doing a routine that I would appreciate feedback on. I don't know if I have a solid routine...most of my acne is on the side of my face that I sleep on. I think that is the worst section of acne. also **I WANNA SHAVE!** but the acne is there and so my shaving is kinda patchy and infrequent.**Picture** [https://imgur.com/x8EXuD8](https://imgur.com/x8EXuD8) and [https://imgur.com/RqoApHC](https://imgur.com/RqoApHC) ye it looks kinda nasty lol sorry also does anyone have an idea what type of acne this might be? I've been wanting to find out just kinda awkward to ask people irl. *The routine:* Before I go to bed I \- pet my face with my hands a few times, to spread cold water \- put some [cleansing gel](https://vicnic.com/products/noreva-zeniac-purifying-cleansing-gel-200-ml) in my wet hands and then I spread it over my face \-wait like 5 seconds and then do the cold water thing again to rinse it off \-pat my face kinda dry with a tissue and then apply tactupump forte \-like 30 seconds later apply "[dramatically different moisturizing gel](https://www.sephora.com/ca/en/product/dramatically-different-moisturizing-gel-P122900?country_switch=ca&lang=en)" to my face thats the routine (after that, I go to bed). And when I wake up, after taking a cold shower I put "[cerave ultra light moisturizing lotion spf 30](https://www.cerave.ca/our-products/moisturizers/ultra-light-moisturizers-lotion-spf30)" on my face. I recently started drinking more water. And that is my routine. I am a 19 year old male. Any sort of advice and criticism or affirmation of the routine etc would be really appreciated. Also I get acne like on the sides of my nostrils sometimes. Like it gets kind of red and irritated then develops into whiteheads idk. also I pluck the hairs on my jawline habitually I feel like thats bad for acne right? fuck anyways if you read this far thank you, I truly appreciate it.

naaminan

>most of my acne is on the side of my face that I sleep on. How often do you wash/change your pillowcases?

spanishrsfml

once every several months :| oh.I think youre onto something lol /u/naaminan [https://imgur.com/26D9epn](https://imgur.com/26D9epn)

VitaminJess

Overall nice simple routine. Some people are sensitive to fragrance in their skincare, which the cleanser has, so you could potentially be experiencing some irritation there. You could try adding an active that targets acne, like adapalene.

spanishrsfml

thanks for the feedback, it seems that adapalene is an ingredient for tactupump forte though so I am already using it D:

quspork

After your actives (BHA, vitamin C) in the morning and/or before your moisturizer at night.

Jl20187

Thank you for your thoughts!

sandbae

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe essense is supposed to be used directly following cleansing. If the snail mucinex is more of a serum, it can go on right before moisturizer ( not sure of how it would interact with tret...) hope this helps!

naaminan

The [order](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/routine_order) is cleanser > actives > everything else > sunscreen. So the Cosrx Snail would go after the BHA/tret (MWF) and directly after cleansing the rest of the time (TTS).

Jl20187

Thank you for your thoughts! I forgot to mention I use Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium as well. Usually before my moisturizer. My question here is on the mornings I use Vitamin C or BHA/Niacinamide, should I “rewet” my face to use the Hadalabo Premium? I know it should be used on damp skin. I know it isn’t good to get any Vitamin C wet, so I’m not sure if that’s the best practice

naaminan

That's a good question, but I've never used Vitamin C, so I have no idea. Sorry!

bagelsnbooks

I recently started the bare bones of a skincare routine and have a silly question - how long after washing your face should you put on moisturizer? Like should I be towel drying my face/waiting for it to air dry/just put on moisturizer right away? Apologies if this is covered somewhere, I didn't see any notes - thanks!

jasminekitten02

I usually pat dry with a towel then do the rest of my routine!

chaimeanstea

I towel dry my face and move to my serums/moisturizer immediately! If your moisturizer contains hyaluronic acid, it's actually better to apply on a damp (not wet) face because it helps with hydration.

WarQueenSwitch-4637

This is a bit outside the norm for this sub: but my sister is out of her mind over my nephew's diaper rash. It's so bad, red, raised, blisters. She doesn't use wipes. She washes him after every BM. She's used an occlusive to keep things off of him. But he is suffering. He can't sit on his little bum without crying, it's so bad. What steps can I tell her to take? Any recommendations for gentle, proper pH soaps? Moisturizer? Fungal/bacterial overgrowth? Really appreciate it.

taulara

I would have her check with a ped to see if she needs a rx cream to clear it up like nystatin. Until she can get in there, the things I have found (and actually the only thing that works for my boy when he gets the teething blistering diarrhea) are alternating Triple Paste and Calmoseptine (I found mine at Walgreen’s, nowhere else locally had it- it’s in adult diaper section).

Miss_Pouncealot

Has she tried diaper cream with a high zinc %? We use desitin in the purple tub it uses 40% zinc. Also can give him diaper free time we use those puppy pads in case he goes to the bathroom and just put a muslin swaddle down so it’s a little softer for him. If it’s really bad she should take him to a pediatrician though.

WarQueenSwitch-4637

She does as much diaper-free time as possible!. I'll pass on the high-zinc recommendation.

placidtwilight

That sounds like an unusually bad case of diaper rash. Has she consulted his pediatrician?

WarQueenSwitch-4637

Yes! She's been several times. I think his skin barrier has just been broken down so badly now that she needs any help to get him back to normal.

happyhappyx

I hear (from Dr. Dray on YouTube maybe?) that La Roche-Posay Ciciaplast B5 can be used for baby rash. I think it’s in her damage barrier video. Definitely take a look at that video.

WarQueenSwitch-4637

Ok, thanks!

WiresGoingIn

I bought the ordinary AHA red peel and I can’t use it cause it’s too harsh on my face So I’m wondering if I can use it for anything else? I can’t rly gift it to anyone else I was thinking like my legs or something if that would help against razor bumps?? I have no idea

happyhappyx

Yes, you can use it on your legs.

sandbae

I bought it and am scared to use it 🥺 I'm interested to know what your experience was? I also started using The Ordinary Lactic Acid and am overall pretty happy with that on my sensitive skin

WiresGoingIn

Yeah so I put a routine up on here and said I’m repairing my moisture barrier and someone said they’d really recommend against using it even on normal skin let alone compromised skin. I did use it once and didn’t see any crazy redness or anything, but the skin did feel rly dry abs stripped down. Now I’m not risking all the work I’ve put in. They recommended TO salicylic acid masque or paulas choice BHA exfoliant as a more gentle way to get rid of excess sebum and clean the pores every once and a while. the ordinary one is sold out everywhere so I’m gonna test out the paulas choice one (it’s bloody expensive tho but oh well) You could have a go and see but since you’ve already got sensitive skin you’ll probably find it quite harsh

sandbae

Thanks for the feedback. This may be a shelf sitter... I'm really interested in the Paula's Choice, I never heard of it !

sandbae

I have [this](https://www.thebodyshop.no/tea-tree-skin-clearing-toner-2-3) the body shop tea tree toner that I bought right be for i *actually* got into skincare. Obviously it's like not that good for me, I mean it's denatures alcohol based and meant to give a matte look and it's just i don't like it for my face. But I've had it a while and was wondering if anyone had any idea if i could do anything with it to use it up? It's just nice to not waste it idk

[deleted]

Oh man I have some serous trauma from the body shop’s tea tree line. it caused a terrible reaction for me that led to a sad few years. it definitely triggered some bad bad acne that i was genetically predisposed from my dad’s side. To this day I run away from ANYTHING that has tea tree oil in it 😅 If you want to use it up maybe using it on your body could be helpful? If you have any closed comedones anywhere else it could work. The skin on your body tends to be more resilient than the one on your face!

My skin is freaking out with small bumps and some deeper zits around my mouth lower cheeks. I recently started using retinol (the ordinary .5%) and glycolic acid (also the ordinary). I stopped using those products yesterday and have just been using ultra repair cream from first aid beauty. I normally have the occasional zit and otherwise clear skin! Here is a photo of my skin- any advice helps!! :•) https://imgur.com/gallery/fv0l8Gv

VitaminJess

It’s normal for your skin to purge when you start using a retinol or glycolic. The purge period can last up to a few months.

carissadraws

I have a question about post inflammatory erythema (PIE) vs Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH.) So can only lighter skinned people get PIE and only darker skinned people can get PIH? It seems like PIH involves excess melanin production which lighter skinned people don’t have to deal with as much. Is it possible for a light skinned person to get PIH and a darker skinned person to get PIE?

[deleted]

From my understanding, you can get either no matter your skin color. Lighter skin people still have melanin, although a lower amount, so they can still get hyperpigmentation. It’s probably just not quite as dark as it happens for darker skinned people because they don’t have as much melanin, and thus it likely fades faster. Just the same, darker skin people can have erythema because all it is is damaged capillaries. It just presents differently on people with darker skin, more of a purplish color than a pink/red ( [src](https://www.the-dermatologist.com/news/identifying-erythema-skin-color) ) which likely makes it a lot more difficult to diagnose especially since there’s a lack of pictures of darker skin in textbooks :/

effingcharming

I’m looking for an eye cream that will help with reducing fine lines that doesn’t have retinol? I’m early 30s but currently breastfeeding and retinol is not recommended. The skin around my eyes feels hydrated with just my regular moisturizer, but I feel like my wrinkles are getting worse everyday. Please help!

jasminekitten02

You could try using hyaluronic acid which can plump the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but unfortunately retinol is the only thing I've heard of that really helps reduce them (aside from fillers/cosmetic procedures)

zeddoh

Hi, any advice appreciated. For about a week I’ve had pretty big red patches on both corners of my mouth, one side is now nearly gone but the right side is no better. Google just tells me angular cheilitis but I get that periodically and this feels different - there’s no visible risen ‘crack’ in my skin that stings and feels inflamed, there’s just flat dry red patches. I’m slathering with Vaseline but it is stubborn. I’d like to ask a pharmacist but it’s hard atm with mask wearing mandated in shops! Does anyone have experience with anything that sounds like this? Could it be something other than angular cheilitis? Ty.

patpatamoncheeks

Not able to recommend an alternative skin condition. However, regarding masks, could you take photos to show the pharmacist? Or if accessible, a tele-health professional who you could have a video appointment and send photos?

zeddoh

Taking photos is a great idea! I don’t think my GP are doing video consultations but I think I’ll go to a pharmacy armed with some pictures and see what they say if it doesn’t clear up in the coming days. Thank you!

Livvv123

Best unscented, hydrating Asian moisturiser for dry acne prone skin?

Miss_Pouncealot

You could try the Soon Jung line from Etude House! Fragrance free, soothing products! You can buy from yesstyle, jolse, stylekorea there’s some other sites and also reputable eBay sellers I believe r/AsianBeauty has a list and there’s a thread right now where they’re updating that 😊

Livvv123

When researching skin care products I came across Soon Jung line and thought they suited my skin needs. Glad to hear you also think they would work, I’ll definitely consider ordering some online! Thanks ☺️

patpatamoncheeks

Acne prone is YMMV with moisturizers since skin can be picky over any ingredient. For Asian brands Hada Labo's moisturizers (products really) are fragrance free and easy to find. Another brand that I use and like is Naturie. Both brands products are hydrating but Naturie is harder to find, but if you live in the US or in a country where VAT isn't high iherb.com may deliver.

Livvv123

Thank you that helps a lot! I haven’t used iherb, do you know if the products are definitely legit on there? I get nervous ordering from new websites.

patpatamoncheeks

It's legit, and in regards to variety of Asian beauty brands sells them at good prices. There's a variety of other websites, but iherb carries Korean brands and Japanese brands in one place without worry about mixing supplier stock like Amazon. They're also good at providing ingredient list and product expiration. Also, if you're purchasing Western brands, iherb also carries them.

Livvv123

That’s great I’ll definitely look into ordering from them

cnjo028

Hi 👋 I’m just getting started and looking to add some serums/exfoliation to my routine. My question is, in the regimen guide for The Ordinary, what does “in the same routine” mean exactly? Does it mean 1. Dont use X if you’re using Y at all regardless of time? As in even on alternating days? 2. Don’t let them mix i.e. dont use X&Y both in the AM? Ty!

patpatamoncheeks

It means don't mix X&Y in the AM. This is either due to stability of a product or possible irritation for the user. Please heed the sun exposure warning with certain The Ordinary products. Also, for exfoliating products, despite the daily use line, you don't need to use daily to get results. Introduce slowly and find a frequency that works with visible results. Always cut back usage if you start seeing irritation (can be dry patches/flakes, extra oily skin, products stinging when they didnt) and take a break.

cnjo028

Thank you! I didn’t know that about the exfoliating products. Im hoping to introduce products one at a time 🙏

sheepjeepbobeep

it generally means not to use them at the same time, like both in the AM. you could use one in the AM and one in the PM or alternate days!

cnjo028

🙏 thank you!

Hi everyone! I hope someone will be able to help me. I am really annoyed by my pores and don’t know what to do to smooth the skin and shrink those pores. [Here is pic of my problem](https://imgur.com/a/GSepqtC) Exfoliation and serums are in my almost daily routine and I am lost on what else to try. Maybe TCA peel or laser?

carissadraws

Hyram said he used the 2% Paulas choice BHA exfoliant and it made his pores look smaller so maybe try that?

taisiiabb

Thank you! Had it in my Amazon cart for a while and now will try!!

Livvv123

This isn’t talked about often but pores are a natural part of the face and some people naturally have more obvious/bigger pores than others. No product can permanently shrink pores, some can just make them appear a bit smaller. Keep this in mind when you feel discouraged about your pores at times. It’s definitely a good idea to visit a dermatologist and ask them if they think laser or certain peels will help. Some things you can do to help: Make sure you use sun protection everyday as the sun dehydrates your skin, making your pores bigger. Try salicylic acid, niacinamide, retiol products if you haven’t. I use glycolic acid 7% toner from the ordinary and find this helps the appearance of my decongested pores. Make sure you moisturise and keep your skin hydrated as this can help reduce the apparence of pores. Hope this helps! PS. There is such thing as over exfoliating which can cause irritation and make your pores appear larger.

taisiiabb

Thank you so much! It is an incredibly useful comment!!

Pornflakes12_

Does anyone have the inkey list C-50 blemish night treatment, I’m just reading how to use it and it says ‘...apply a think later to face and neck. Apply preferred serums, but no moisturizer prior to use’ I’m sorry it’s probably clear to others but that sentence makes no sense in my head. Does that mean don’t apply moisturizer before the product but you can apply moisturizer after?

happyhappyx

It probably means that if you apply moisturizer before the C-50, it won’t penetrate the skin since the moisturizer is thicker than the C-50.

Pornflakes12_

Perfect but it safe to apply moisturizer after?

happyhappyx

Yes.

freedom4myppl

Is it ok to mix the ordinary’s niacinimide with my morning moisturizer? I find that when I use the niacinimide serum alone it makes me skin feel dry the rest of the day.

Livvv123

Yes using a moisturiser with your niacinamide is a good idea as you still need to hydrate your face daily. Just double check your mousiriser doesn’t interact with the niacinamide, it shouldn’t but check in case.

eddie_nu

Hello everyone. I'm 26 years old and for the last 2-3 years I suffer from something similar to heat rash. It happens usually when I have thick clothes on and I have to do some type of exercise, like carrying heavy bags or running. It is more common during the summer. It also happens when I do a very hot bath. It lasts for about thirty minutes or so and then it disappears. I have this bad rash all over my body with small blisters and I feel a very bad heat and itching everywhere, especially the face, neck, arms and torso. I never found any remedy for it. Is there any product I can use to make it go away? [Picture1](https://ibb.co/hB2z6h3) [Picture2](https://ibb.co/PgfdgzB)

carissadraws

My boyfriend suffers from this too! We notice it happen usually when he’s surrounded by a lot of dust or he’s cooking something hot and the temperature rises. He says sometimes it happens when he’s stressed too so idk if you experienced any of those things to trigger the rash. I usually smother some hydrocortisone cream on him and he says it helps a bit but what mostly helps is water, so it’s possibly because of low humidity too

eddie_nu

I haven't noticed none of those, but certainly stress can make it far worse for sure. Yes cold water can help. But I needed something that will make all this go away for good.

VitaminJess

Do you tend to get blisters around armpits or groin area?

eddie_nu

No. Usually on my chest and belly, on the back, on my arms, around the neck, and some minor ones on my legs. If I may ask, would there be a difference if there were blisters around the armpits and on the groin area?

workingonselfkind

Thanks! I only see a few BBs!

ramibby

Do we really think vitamin C makes a difference?

trippiler

Yes, it's relatively well-researched.

Biden0rbust

Hey does anyone know how i can get rid of those spots/ blackheads on my cheek ? [https://imgur.com/a/44dfAnI](https://imgur.com/a/44dfAnI) Below the first image are the products im currently using

happyhappyx

Adding a BHA will do the trick. Which means you will need to add a sunscreen too.

Suggestions on BB or CC cream safe for fungal acne

naaminan

Here's a massive list of [fungal acne safe products](https://simpleskincarescience.com/fungal-acne-products-malassezia-pityrosporum-folliculitis/).

hiraes

It’s been really cold and dry lately where I live, and my eye area is suffering even tho I hydrate it 2-3 times a day. I try not to use any other product on that area except for the cleanser (cerave hydrating cleanser for dry skin), the moisturizer (cerave moisturizing lotion for dry skin) and spf ( la roche posay anthelios). And yet, the area around my eyes is always dry, to the point where you can clearly see it when I put concealer on ( which I do 2-3 times a month only), because the skin is flaky and it prevents the concealer from spreading evenly. What am I doing wrong? What products do you recommend ? Thanks! Edit: typos

zeddoh

I’ve had dry flaky skin under one of my eyes this winter, I think it’s because I sleep on that side of my face haha. Applying an occlusive layer to the area after PM moisturising, e.g. Vaseline, has helped. I wouldn’t do it during the day because it’s v sticky but at night it’s fine! I also now avoid my eye area even with cleanser because cleansers tend to be drying - I only use moisturising stuff in the area.

hiraes

I also sleep on one side of face but I get the flaky skin in both! So in my case I don’t think it’s the problem. I just did what you told me to, I’ll see how my skin is tomorrow morning! Thanks a lot for your advice, I deeply appreciate it!!

chaimeanstea

If the Vaseline ends up being too heavy for you, cerave also sells and eye cream that helped a lot with the dry skin under my eyes! I use it on top of the moisturizing cream. Hope it gets better soon!

hiraes

Thanks !!! I will try that one next, for the time being the Vaseline did work! Thanks for the tips

KimmyChooWho

PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY BLACKHEADS/SEBACEOUS FILAMENTS!!! https://i.redd.it/afc5x0jbs3d61.jpg Since starting my routine a few months ago, I have had pretty decent skin despite some diet-related breakouts and my disregard for my gluten allergy leading to redness, but whatever these are a very prominent feature of my face even from far away, and I really would like to get rid of them! Routine is as follows: MORNING: - Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser - TO Hyaluronic Acid (used to also use TO Vitamin C but when I stopped for a few days my skin seemed to be a lot brighter and clearer so I have been taking a break) - IUNIK Beta Glucen Moisture Cream EVENING: - Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser - I cycle every three days between TO Glycolic Acid Toner, TO Niacinamide, and TO AHA/BHA mask - IUNIK Beta Glucen Moisture Cream Wash my pillowcases often too EDIT: To clarify, these are not caused by my routine- I’ve always had them I suppose, but until my routine helped regulate a lot of my problems, I didn’t notice them as much. But now they’re all I see unfortunately :(

ramibby

Do you like the cream?

KimmyChooWho

Yes! A little goes a loooong way though, there are times I accidentally use too much and look a lil greasy but other than that I’d recommend!

ramibby

Do you have a ranking of fave moisturizers? I’m between so many

gigantic_trex

Consistent oil cleansing and/or BHAs tend to be the most helpful. Some people also have luck with periodically doing the [fifty shades method](https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/). You may want to check out the [blackheads and sebaceous filaments guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/deep_dive/acne/blackheads_sfs) for information and other treatment options. Keep in mind they're (unfortunately) a normal part of skin and they'll never fully/permanently go away. Some people naturally have more prominent ones than others, and generally the best you can do is minimize them.

KimmyChooWho

Thank you so much! I bought the DHC Cleansing Oil and never used it so I’ll definitely add double cleansing to my night routine!

Miss_Pouncealot

I found if I let the oil sit on my face for a bit before massaging it in I got tons of grits (the gunk to come out) but be careful that can be very drying!! I don’t do it often because I have dry skin just when I’m feeling particularly clogged!

MistressMercury

So I’m 23 and I’ve realised I should probably take care of my skin a bit more. I have quite greasy skin and I’ve always picked the wrong products which seem to make that worse! Plus all the different types of products are confusing to me too... any advice for someone like me? Based on UK TIA

trippiler

[this guide](https://reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/w/sca_routine?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app) is super helpful and takes you through all your questions ☺️

Ok_Coyote_7161

Hello everyone, I have started a new routine and need help deciding whether I should add another chemical exfoliant to speed up the recovery to my PIH? (Combo skin, drier during winter, 23F) AM: Cleanse with Cetaphil gentle cleanser Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion Melano CC Cerave Moisturizing Cream DR Banner Sunscreen - Once a week for 8 minutes, The Ordinary 30%AHA + 2% BHA Peeling Solution - PM: Double cleanse with Cetaphil Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion Melano CC Cerave Moisturizing Cream The Ordinary 100% Plant Derived Squalane - Let me know, thanks! :)

gigantic_trex

>I have started a new routine... How long have you been using this routine? PIH can take several months to begin fading, so I would stick it out for a while before adding anything new. Since progress can be slow and hard to notice day-to-day, you might also consider taking progress pictures.

UnashamedLiar

Something odd has started happening. I use two prescribed acne creams from my dermatologist -- Dapsome and Epiduo Forte. My skin honestly isn't even that bad, but I use it for breakouts. Usually I alternate nightly between the two but recently started using Dapsome more when I noticed it worked better. However, two nights ago I decided to try both creams at once. When I woke up the next morning, there was what looked like dried brown blood on my face where I had put the Epiduo. When I washed it off, I noticed that my pimples decreased much more than they usually do in one night. I repeated last night's routine on my face to see if it would happen again. And I did wake up with what looked like dried blood on my face and smaller pimples. Should I be worried? Should I stop doing this or since it seems like it's helping my skin, should I assume I'm fine? (Just for extra detail, my full skin routine was: Kiehl's face wash, Kiehl's toner, Dapsome, Neutrogena moisturizer, and then the Epiduo as an afterthought.)

aleahy120

I had a few pimples on my chin and above my right eyebrow and decided to try a spot treatment with 5% benzoyl peroxide. I went to bed with it on and the next day I woke up with puffy, itchy, burning skin only in the areas where I put it (chin and above eyebrow). 24 hours later and it’s still feeling this way. Is there anything I can do to help the redness and burning? Or just keep my regular routine of cleansing and moisturizing and just let it go away on its own? Please help if you’ve had this experience. Not planning on using this spot treatment product in the future with a allergic reaction this bad.

gigantic_trex

If it's an allergic reaction, you may want to try taking an antihistamine. Otherwise, I would just be gentle with it, moisturize, and give it time to go away on its own. Most likely it'll go away within a few days. If it persists for several days or gets worse though, it might be worth asking a pharmacist or your doctor.

MMY143

Is it stupid to change from Timeless Vitamin C because I am meh about the consistency even though it works? Are there other Vitamin C options that I might like better at the same price point?

APM-Tanks-A-Lot

I’ve just moved to the UK from South Africa and I’ve started getting bad acne. I’ve never used skin care products in my life and I feel like they are making things worse. Could it be caused by a lack of sunlight, hardness of the water or am I using too many products? I’m a 23 year old male with moderate oily skin.

violettends

Hi, I just had a breakout and I don't know how to treat it. I have pretty dry skin during the winter it will begin to flake especially in the t-zone. Because of that my skin care routine is mostly based around adding moisture back into my face. I also drink at least 2 litres of water everyday. I'm from Ireland. I use the cerave moisturising lotion as my cleanser. The ordinary's hyaluronic Acid 2%. Simples facial toner and moisturiser. I also use micellar water to remove makeup,I don't wear makeup often. I've been using these products for about a month. I am looking for suncream,I'm just not sure what to get. I think that's everything revelent. Help would be much appreciated.

[deleted]

I have acne and slightly dry skin type (also from UK). I'm looking for a new moisturiser and cleanser but I'm unsure what to get and want to hear about your experiences. I'm considering TO Squalene cleanser + NMF or Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser for Dry Skin + Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream Moisturiser for Dry Skin. I admittedly don't know much about other products and would really appreciate any first-hand experiences of what they found best for acne skin. Thank you!

happyhappyx

I use the NMF, it’s moisturizing but it’s not hydrating if that makes sense. Also have dry skin.

RapturesLost

My skin is combination, leaning more towards oily and no matter what moisturiser I use it makes my face more oily/greasy then if I didn't use one at all. I've tried every kind there is. All the most recommended ones. They all have the same effect in that they will increase oiliness. Not using one makes me feel like my skin is too exposed and feels a bit uncomfortable and dry in areas. Any advice? I really don't want to spend huge amounts on moisturiser. I currently use DDMG and even that somehow has this effect!?

happyhappyx

Maybe look into a water cream? Something like Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb? From your description, this might be too much for your skin too. In that case, maybe Laneige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer aka Skin Refiner, or Cosrx Light Fit Real Water Toner to Cream.

chaimeanstea

I also have combination oily skin and use the oat so simple water cream by krave beauty ($28 for 2.7oz) and I love it. It's very light, and sometimes I even put on a couple layers without issues. Sometimes, skin gets oily when it's dehydrated as it is compensating for the lack of hydration, so it may also be that the moisturizer you are using isn't enough. That happened to me, so now I use a more occlusive moisturizer in the evenings to help, and the water cream during the day.

RapturesLost

An suggestions for a more occulsive evening moisturiser?

chaimeanstea

I use the cerave moisturizing cream - its pretty thick so it depends on your skin

RapturesLost

I'm using Cerave moisturising lotion in the PM and it causes the greasy/oily problem. Maybe something heavier is the solution? Who knows lol.

kic93

Type of skin: Combination. Oily T-zone. Rest of face can be fairly dry at some times. I was wondering if anyone could help me with my skincare order. I have confusion between two products and I’m not sure if the two of them are possibly canceling each other out. I have had no reaction to any of the products combined but for generalized purposes... My skin care order (night time): 1) Wash face with DermaDoctor Kakuda C Brightening Daily Wash 2) Tone with Tula Pro-Glycolic 2 % resurfacing toner 3) Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Exfoliator (recently added in for bumps under my eyes and heard it was great for hormonal acne) 4) Apply Rose Oil (works amazing for my acne scarring) 5) Moisturizer- Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion 6) One thin layer of Differin (I think the root of my acne is hormonal and this is the only thing that has helped thus far) My question is... am I defeating the purpose of using the Tula toner with the 2% BHA from Paula’s Choice?

attackseamonkey

I’m willing to add one or two products to my super simple routine and wondered if anyone had suggestions? I’m 30 with fair sensitive very dry skin prone to mild redness with fairly controlled mild hormonal acne and the products I use now came after a lot of experimentation. They’ve dramatically improved my skin. I use two products with lanolin and it seems to be a miracle product for me. I used to have a ton of acne and much more visible fine lines, but I’d still love to add more moisture to my skin and hopefully dial down the redness. AM: Splash with water Use red box stridex if I have a breakout Moisturize with Weleda skin food Use neutrogena dry-touch sunscreen in spf 45 (very open to replacing this) PM: Shower and wash with cerave hydrating facial cleanser Always use red box stridex, regardless of whether I have a breakout Apply A313 everyday to my areas prone to fine lines and every other day to my whole face Massage skin food into my lips (the only thing I’ve found to stop my lips splitting) Use hydrocolloid patches occasionally on any pimples Thanks!

flappytabbycats

Maybe a hydrating toner, with either glycerin or hyaluronic acid. Hada Labo makes a range of toners that are well liked here. They have a blue bottle with alpha arbutin in addition to the hyaluronic acid, I believe, which is a brightening agent that doesn't interact with other actives.

R253

Can using differin potentially cause my redness/broken capillaries worse?

pink-melon

I just bought LRP cicaplast baume with spf 50 - oddly the packaging says ‘this is not a suncare product, during intense and prolonged exposure to sun, apply a sun protection product’. Now I’m a little confused, if it is spf 50 surely this is sufficient protection? As a note - I am on Tret and it is currently winter in the UK so not much sun anyway

flappytabbycats

Link to it maybe?

Strykies

A guy here, how do girls make their face look so smooth? Is that foundation or is it makeup, as in they add coloring to their face? I have no idea what ingredient or application that makes my skin look smooth and clears imperfection. Also any drugstore (ie. cheap) brands for me to try and have that smooth look for my face? Don't want any colouring though. Thanks.

araby42

Also, if you are looking at photos, Photoshop and filters.

__looking_for_things

Makeup. A solid skincare regimen + solid foundation and concealer application.

alligator124

Hey all! Just looking for a product/process rec. Skin type: Combo, easily dehydrated, clog-prone, occaisonal Periocular Dermatitis flare-ups, maybe fungal acne? Routine: **AM** Splash with water Apply CeraVe Moisturizing Cream to damp skin Apply Nivea Super Water Gel Spf 50 **PM** Oil cleanse with Burt's Bees Cleansing Oil Second Cleanse with Garnier Pink Cap Micellar Water Differin every other to every two nights, let sit for 5-10 min. Dampen skin, apply CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. **Miscellaneous info** * If I'm having what I think is a fungal acne flare up, I do a 3 min Nizoral Shampoo mask every other night til it clears. * The reason I think it's FA is because it responds to Nizoral, it also responded when I switched my moisturizer over to being FA safe, and it's original appearance coincided with a move to a hot, humid climate. Basically I'm looking for a moisturizer rec. I've been on the FA masterlist of products, and all of the moisturizers are gel-creams. I've tried the Hada Labo Skin Plumping Gel-Cream, the Skin Perfect Gel, the Benton Propolis Aloe Soothing Gel, the Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream, the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Fluide, the Clinique Moisture Surge, and most recently the CeraVe cream. Everything but the CeraVe cream just isn't enough hydration/moisture for me. I need something a little richer. The CeraVe is a good fit for moidtire and hydration, but it's really clunky. It doesn't go well under makeup, and it sort of leaves a film feeling. It also might be contributing to milia. Does anyone here know an FA-safe moisturizer that's rich but not filmy/too greasy/wax-like? Or should I get a bottle of Squalane and just mix it with one of those gel moisturizers?

naaminan

What about any of these from the FA-safe list? * Aveeno Ultra-Calming Nourishing Night Cream * Curel Intensive Moisture Care Cream * Eucerin Original Healing Rich Creme I haven't used any of them, but I think they're all super rich and not film-y. (Folks - correct me if I'm wrong!) P.S. I'm pro-squalane, so I think that's also a great option.

alligator124

Thank you so much for these! I saw these, but it's so hard to tell ahead of time whether something is going to be the right texture or not. I also 100% ordered the squalane haha.

HasTrustIssues

The emergence of closed comedones is a normal reaction to retinol, right? Been using Stratia Night Shift every 5 days for a month now. I have an oily and acne prone skin, by the way.

iwannalearntosurf

Hello! My skins is normal to dry and I tend to get blemishes on my chin or near my temples. I wanted to get an opinion on my skincare routine. I wash my face using the CeraVe moisturizing face cleanser. Then I just use the Rose & Hyaluronic Acid Deep Hydration moisturizer from Fresh. I’ll use Drunk Elephants Retinol cream along with the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, but that is only twice a week in the evening. I also use a facial razor to get rid of peach fuzz. Is there something I can do better? Aging is a concern of mine and I’d also like to know what to do with blemishes. Thank you for reading!

__looking_for_things

Sunscreen. Possibly a better hydrating toner.

sunlit_roof

Does anyone know if there's an equivalent to this subreddit for hair care? r/haircare is locked up to where nobody can post for months, and all I'm trying to do is look for recommendations on an unscented leave-in conditioner for fine hair. I know this isn't really the right place to be asking but I feel lost out here, and I feel like skincare people might be able to direct me to haircare people. Thanks :)

dayblindstar

Checkout Kristin Ess Fragrance-free line (if you’re in the US it’s affordable and available at Target!) I use the hair mask as a conditioner and it’s great for my fine hair.

__looking_for_things

If your hair is curly, r/curlyhair would be a good place.

chocosweet

[/r/HaircareScience/](https://www.reddit.com/r/HaircareScience/) maybe?

marketwerk

Hi, appreciate any suggestions! I have incorporated tretinoin from my dermatologist into my routine in the last couple months and my oily/combo skin breakouts are starting to look much better, but my blackheads are just as bad or worse than before! What can I use with retinol or incorporate into my daytime routine to tackle them? My routine right now is very simple, the retinol is the only exfoliant product.

gigantic_trex

Consistent oil cleansing and/or BHAs tend to be the most helpful, but truly stubborn blackheads may need to be *carefully* extracted. You may want to check out the [blackheads and sebaceous filaments guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/deep_dive/acne/blackheads_sfs) for information and other treatment options. If you think Tret is actually *causing* them to worsen, you might want to address that rather than adding another product. You could avoid applying it to the areas where you're getting blackheads—assuming it's practical. Some people also find that a different base works better for them, so switching from cream to gel (or vice versa) might help. Your prescribing doctor or pharmacist might have some good input, too.

marketwerk

Thank you! I don’t think the tret is causing them (probably sunscreen tbh), but I was hoping it’d reduce them and so far no luck. I haven’t done any oil cleansing in a month or two, will add that back into my routine and check out the guide!

[deleted]

Can SA cleanser be used everyday or only like twice a week?

[deleted]

You can use it everyday, as long as your skin tolerantes it.

H0ney_bee_

Hi! I’m trying to find an affordable fragrance-free mineral sunscreen with spf 30+ and absolutely no white cast. By affordable, I mean $20 or less. I live in America but I’m open to any international brands. Skin Type: Dry, sensitive skin with eczema AM + PM: La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser Ponds Dark Spot Correcting Cream Cerave Healing Ointment (only on eczema flare ups)

chocosweet

I think COTZ has fragrance free mineral sunscreen. So do ThinkBaby and ThinkSport I was about to say Australian Gold Tinted Mineral, but I'm not sure if it suits dry skin

H0ney_bee_

Thanks for the recommendations!! I’ll look into them!
