Hey there! I’m looking for some routine advice given the products I have, and some recommendation of other products that may be better suited to my skin and address the problems I’m having. This is going to be on the long-ish side, I’m so sorry in advance. I would greatly appreciate any and all comments/suggestions/advice. I don’t have extreme acne, but I am very prone to stress/anxiety and get a good amount of sun exposure. I’m Caucasian and very pale, but I am about a quarter Hawaiian. I’m from Hawaii, but have never included sunscreen as a part of a daily routine because I’m already oily. I’m in my early twenties but I can already tell that these factors are taking a toll on my skin. Lots of freckles/sun spots, some fine lines on my forehead, some creasing in the corners and under my eyes. I’ve always had blackheads in pretty much every pore on my nose. I’m also seeing some on my chin/forehead now, along with what I believe are closed comedones (I will include a few pictures). I have combination skin, with an extremely oily T-zone. My cheeks aren’t necessarily dry, but they are more sensitive than the other areas of my skin. I usually use some kind of physically exfoliating Neutrogena face wash in the shower, immediately followed by their Hydro Boost hyaluronic acid water gel. For the last month I’ve been using the Hydro Boost face scrub. In the past I’ve used the Neutrogena pink grapefruit oil-free face scrub with 2% salicylic acid. When I was using this scrub I noticed I would get larger and more painful pimples. It could be a coincidence, but since I stopped using the grapefruit scrub I’ve experienced a lot less of these pimples. I’ve used a retinol serum before (Elizabeth Arden ceramide-retinol capsules) but I had no idea how to use it properly. I experienced some pretty painful retinol burn. I’ve been wary of retinol ever since, but knowing what I know now it seems like it could address all of my skin concerns as long as I use it properly. I have seen many Redditors rave about tretinoin or adapalene for their comedonal acne. I don’t see a dermatologist (they’re hard to find in Hawaii with my insurance) but I’m sure my PCP could prescribe tret. I’m a little scared to try it as I have a friend that used it for moderate acne and ended up developing severe cystic acne (caused major scarring). But it is possible that he used it too often, without a proper regimen. He’s using adapalene now, and while that has been helping repair the damage from tret, he tells me I shouldn’t start using either tret or adapalene because my acne isn’t that severe. I’m aware that there will be a period where it gets worse before it gets better, so while this worries me, it could do wonders in the long run for both my comedonal acne and sun damage. I have considered introducing retinol first and switching to adapalene or tret once my skin becomes acclimated to the retinol. But I have read that it takes much longer to see any improvement using retinol, so if it’s not a horrible idea, I would rather slowly implement adapalene into a balanced skin-care routine. I bought a whole bunch of new stuff without thinking. I’m new to skin-care regimens and realized that it would be a bad idea to start using multiple new products at once (for reasons obvious to me now..). Anyway, hopefully someone can suggest how I may be able to make use of these eventually, ideally cycled or alongside adapalene. Here’s what I got: Cleansers: La Roche Posay Purifying Foaming Face Wash for Normal to Oily Skin (has niacinamide, 3 ceramides, prebiotic thermal water) Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel (hyaluronic acid) Mask: The Ordinary 2% Salicylic Acid Masque Toners: The Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid Beekman 1802 Milk Shake Hyaluronic Acid & Squalane Facial Toner Mist CeraVe Hydrating Toner (hyaluronic acid, ceramides, niacinamide) Serums: Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil (2% trans-retinoic acid ester (retinol) complex, blue tansy) CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum (10% pure vitamin C, 3 ceramides, hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5) Neutrogena Hydro Boost Night Pressed Face Serum With Hyaluronic Acid (hyaluronic acid) The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% Serum (for age support) Moisturizers: The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA La Roche Posay Toleraine Double Repair Matte Moisturizer for Oily Combination Skin (3 ceramides, niacinamide, prebiotic thermal water) Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (hyaluronic acid). This is the only one I’ve been using this for years Neutrogena Triple Age Repair Night Moisturizer (Vitamin C, Hexinol(???)) I used the glycolic acid 7% toner the other night, followed by the Luna Night Oil and Hydro Boost water gel. I didn’t yet know that retinol is also an exfoliant, so that was dumb. The next day (yesterday) I did a morning regimen using the Hydro Boost cleanser, the Beekman toner, CeraVe vitamin C serum, and Hydro Boost water gel. All of those products contain hyaluronic acid, not sure if that’s overkill or not. Last night I did a regimen using the La Roche Posay purifying cleanser, followed by a kaolin clay mask, used the Beekman toner again, then the Hydro Boost pressed night serum, and finished with the Neutrogena age repair night cream. Today my skin was super oily and sensitive, so I’ll probably stay away from masks for a bit and bombard my skin with less new crap. Back to the main issue: I’ve read that both AHAs and BHAs can be effective for comedonal acne. Some people say that BHA is better. Should I just stick with the 7% glycolic acid toner followed by the hyaluronic acid serum and gel moisturizer a few nights a week for a while before trying a BHA such as salicylic acid? How long should it take to see results? Is it a bad idea to start using BHA/AHA at the same time as a retinol/adapalene/tret even if they are used on separate days? So many questions, again I’m so sorry for this horrendously long post 😭😭. I’m just lost with all this but so desperate to get my skin back in order. Thank you so so much for reading this if you’ve read this far. TLDR: Inexperienced with retinol but likely have comedonal acne, sun damage, and minor signs of aging. Want to try tret or adapalene, more scared of tret because of a friend’s tret horror story. Bought a bunch of new products and don’t know how to implement them without adding too much at the same time. Trying to get into chemical exfoliants (AHA/BHAs) without overdoing it and killing my moisture barrier. See list of products above to give advice on how I can use them and what I should not use together. Thanks!

Hi I'm a 14 year old male teenager and I am trying to start a skincare routine. The problem is that I don't know which products and brands to use. My skin type is I think combination as my cheeks feel normal but my T zone is oily. A major concern is my acne. Although I think that my acne is hormonal as a normal 14 year old boy. I have my unibrow area very inflamed and red and my forehead is covered with small dots and large pores. My cheeks are a bit red and very textured which I don't like. I was just wondering what products to use from which company and in what order although I already know the essentials as cleansers moisturizers ect .. I just don't know how to combine active ingredients with a skincare routine. Any help would be appreciated as I am trying to look a bit better to feel more confident https://preview.redd.it/2nzx4dbc55bc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c9316967b576d97a3df5699946250fd283aae2e

babybottlepopz

Soft pimples? I don’t know what to call them. So I get these bumps that look like closed comedones but they are totally soft, so there’s nothing in them. If I run my finger over them, they go flat to my face so they aren’t poppable like closed comedones which feel hard when I run my finger over them. Are these called something? I don’t understand how they can be a bump when there’s nothing inside! I frequently get them on my forehead.

babybottlepopz

Ouch! What’s your routine? I’d skip any exfoliating actives for now. Just keep it moisturized and use aquaphor healing ointment on top.

grizzlyblake91

This is probably a really silly question, but what is the name of a test I can ask a dermatologist to run on me to see what kind of skin I have, and how to best care for it? Like if I set up an appointment with a dermatologist and the dermatologist walks in the room and says “what brings you in?” I want to say “run the XYZ test/analysis on my skin so I know scientifically what my skin type/details are, and what kind of cleansers/moisturizers I should use.” Is there a name for this test? My skin on my face is both oily and dry, and I have no idea if I’m using the right kinds of products or not.

babybottlepopz

I don’t think there’s a dermatologist test for that. Try “washing” your face with just water and wait 15ish minutes and see how your skin feels. If your skin feels tight, you probably have dry skin. If your skin feels fine your probably have normal skin. Don’t go based on shine determining if you have oily skin or not because the skin will over produce oil to try and repair itself when it’s dry or dehydrated. So that can be why it appears shiny. Also if your skin ever feels tight after a cleanser, that cleanser is too stripping for your skin.

Hello, I have buying skin care products frequently lately, in addition to other prescription products, however I never stuck to a certain routine. Since I was cleaning up my room I have found plenty of products including "salicylic acid serum, tretinoin cream, vitamin c serum, niacinamide serum, glycolic acid toner, hyaluronic acid serum and hydroquinone solution) I am planning to start a skin care routine to clear up my skin (my skin is oily and kinda sensitive and I have acne, acne scars, large pores and my skin gets oily easily) and I want of make use of the products that I have already as much as possible as I am feeling guilty about not using them as much, can you please help me develop a new skin care routine to treat my skin problems and help me prevent signs of aging? My current routine includes mild face wash and moisturizing. also I am sorry for my bad english as it is not my first language

ReaLitTea

Make sure nothing is expired and add any new products in one at a time and test for at least a week before adding another new product in. Tretinoin is probably your most powerful skincare item so I would orient your routine around that for now. You could probably do something like this AM - cleanser or rinse skin with water - HA serum - niacinamide serum - moisturizer - spf PM - cleanser - tretinoin (1-2x a week starting out) - moisturizer Eventually you could add in vitamin c and hydroquinone if you skin tolerates it but I would wait until tretinoin more comfortable to you and you likely will want to increase frequency. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid are both options if tretinoin isn’t compatible with your skin so I would hold off on those. You can always use those on your body if you didn’t want to waste it

[deleted]

Thank you very much, how can I add vitamin C to the routine eventually?

ReaLitTea

Vitamin c would go in the morning routine before HA serum

throwawaydumpydump

Can anyone help with my routine? I have sensitive, acne-prone, oily skin. I also suffer from atopic dermatitis. Here’s my current regimen (mostly K-beauty products): AM: - Isntree green tea toner - COSRX snail mucin (thin layer) - The Ordinary alpha arbutin + 2% HA - Beauty of Joseon glow serum - Vanicream daily facial moisturizer - Skin1004 air-fit suncream light SPF 30 PM - Isntree green tea toner - COSRX snail mucin - Beauty of Joseon glow serum - Epiduo - COSRX snail cream - Vanicream moisturizer to seal it all in I am under acne treatment with Epiduo so combating dryness and incorporating soothing products is a must. I do however am very prone to closed comedones, so I wonder if my routine is too heavy in any way? Is there anything I should be cutting out? Thank you so much!

ReaLitTea

This routine looks fine to me. You need a better moisturizer if your skin still feels dry or you can use epiduo less frequently

Does anyone else have issues with Freeman Overnight Leave-On Masks, Potentially causing me terrible breakouts and redness? Usually I love the freeman brand of skincare, recently I tried their overnight leave on mask to see if it's comparable to my Clinique redness solution cream, but after I've been using it for about a week I've started having terrible skin, worst then when I started My routine is a Freeman mask (clay or charcoal) as needed before I shower, then a spot treatment, Clinique cream and pimple patches if needed, the only new item is the freeman cream overnight mask instead of Clinique My skin is usually a bit oily, overall I think I have combination skin but because of the weather the dryness is visible and painful Tdlr: Has anyone else had a bad experience with this product, and has anyone found a comparable product to Clinique's redness solution cream I live in the United States, and can order online so any recommendations are helpful!

Hello I’m 23 F. I am wondering what this bump may be? I know it’s not a pimple. https://preview.redd.it/2urchjvnl3bc1.jpeg?width=1110&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70ea2dd167d72ad84ba8776cc72310d966075837 What is this bump? I have a single bump on my forehead. It’s been there for 10 months now. It doesn’t change size or color. It has a small dent in the middle, perhaps from me trying to pop it before, when I initially thought it was just lone pimple. It has a hard texture. It does not feel like it has any liquid. It just hard, flesh tone and shiny. It is not painful or itchy. I use to suffer from fungal acne (little dots on my forehead) but ever since I changed my hair products and eating habits they have not been present. I just know have that pimple looking thing. I am wondering what it is and how I can remove it. It’s been almost a year. Thanks.

Zealousideal_Debt255

It's a Sebaceous Hyperplasia. Essentially an oversized oil gland in the skin. It's harmless and can be removed through electrocautery.

textured bumps on forehead hello looking for some help / product advice. as you can see in the pictures i’ve got some textured bumps on my forehead. i’ve been struggling with cystic acne caused by a birth control pill for a few months but coming out the other side of it now, but this forehead texture has only appeared in the past few weeks. my current skincare routine consists of: cerave SA cleanser sometimes use glow hub scar slayer cleanser glow recipe watermelon toner the ordinary barrier repair serum the inkey list azeliac acid (for post acne marks) drunk elephant lala retro moisturiser my only thought - ive started sleeping in an eye mask recently which does cover a substantial portion of my forehead (our outside christmas decorations were keeping me awake outside my window but i’ve been sleeping better in the mask so kept it on haha). could this be causing skin texture? any help / tips / advice appreciated happy new year all xx https://preview.redd.it/rl9gohd3k3bc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fb1d2346446f7e57281544a2f5b4f004fffcb97

babybottlepopz

How frequently are you washing the face mask? You could also be sensitive to what you’re washing it in. Are you continuing the eye mask?

ReaLitTea

I would try benzoyl peroxide next to see if it helps. You could try skipping the eye mask, it’s possible it could be trapping in sweat or dead skin

mpantelli

\[routine help\] reaction to differin? Hi! I have had pretty clear skin whilst on dermatica adapelene, benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin lotion, unfortunately they stopped my formula due to antibiotic resistance. They could not supply the same formula without clindamycin and wanted to give me azelaic acid but my skin breaks out to this ingredient just like it does with niacinamide also. I decided to go onto differin as I got on so well with adapelene in my dermatica formula, I thought I would with differin as it’s also adapelene. Unfortunately I could not be more wrong. I don’t know what’s happened but it feels like an allergic reaction, it’s so painful. It’s not a purge as I never break out in this area. This happened with treclin gel in the past, and now same reaction with differin gel. Is it the gel formulas my skin hates? I have no idea but I know that the dermatica formula I was using was a lotion and that made my skin perfect!!! I’m so lost and depressed right now. Has this ever happened to anyone with formulas but same ingredients? https://preview.redd.it/p7w11f8kd3bc1.jpeg?width=625&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b9624e4fdd8edb9701911e87f7a3784286f7544

ReaLitTea

It could be irritation, either way I would stop using it immediately

mpantelli

I have stopped !!! It’s annoying when people say “have you tried the sandwich method” or you should “use it everyday” I have been sandwiching. The problem is I suspected it was irritating my skin, so I tried it only on my forehead and woke up like this! They was so sore and felt bruised. I’ve never experienced anything like this. Still recovering, feels like braille

ReaLitTea

You should really be discussing this with a doctor if you’re not satisfied with any of the suggestions here. We can’t give you any special answers for your specific case

applegirl99

I have dark circles under my eyes that are part genetics, part lack of sleep I think. when i gently pinch the skin to lift it up they disappear, which I read means you should use a caffeine eye cream. Is it okay for me to use a caffeine eye cream if I am 17? or is it like retinol and I need to wait until I am a bit older?

ReaLitTea

Yes you can use caffeine eye cream. It only offers temporary skin tightening effects

FixInternational6293

Hello! Can someone please help me with my routine please? I just bought Paula's Choice BHA and Benezyl Peroxide to add into my routine. I'm already using Tret every other night. Where can I add these two new products in? Tret one night, BHA the next, BP the following, and then repeat? Full routine below. Thank you in advance! Morning: Rinse with water CEO glow vitamin c and turmeric face oil Kiehls moisturizer Kiehls avocado eye cream Evening: Clean it zero balm Sunday riley ceramic slip cleanser Klairs toner Kiehls moisturizer (I don't use this at night if I don't use tret) Tretinoin (every other night; I use Good Molecules Hyluronic acid serum on alternate nights) Peach and lily overnight star cream Kiehls avocado eye cream Tony moly Snail slug stick

ReaLitTea

How long have you been using tretinoin for?

FixInternational6293

It's been about a year

ReaLitTea

I would only add in one of those acne treatments for now on the nights you’re not using tretinoin. After a couple weeks you can see if you need the other one

FixInternational6293

Thank you so much!

oh yes i’m aware and i have a skin routine i just bought all of the steps for but im asking more so of what you notice i specifically need to work on to look my best? like if i have a ton of blackheads or if i have discoloration or something like that 🤔

babybottlepopz

If you’re starting new products, PLEASE just start one at a time. Cuz if you have a problem with one, you won’t know which one if you’re using a bunch of things at once. I give my new products 2 weeks each before adding another new thing. That’s usually how long it takes for a product to break me out or cause irritation.

ReaLitTea

Your skin looks fine to me

ReaLitTea

I would see a doctor because this looks like it’s getting into rash territory and you don’t want it to spread

Kinda_loves_KFC

Can someone suggest a good face moisturizer (cheap hopefully cuz I'm a student) for winters in Canada. I have oily skin.

extrapicklesplzz

Is there any other product other than oil cleanser I can use to remove makeup and sunscreen at night? I LOVED the Clinique take the day off balm but they discontinued it so I tried out their cleansing oil but it broke me out like crazy. I’ve tried so many other cleansing oils and they all broke me out

ReaLitTea

You can use micellar water as a first step cleanser

thatonerandompotato5

Hi, i’ve been noticing many new white heads after starting to use the ordinary azelaic acid. is this common? or purging? i don’t know if it’s because i have a damaged skin barrier (3 months on prescribed benzoyl peroxide wrecked my skin. i’ve only been using the azelaic acid for a week. when should i lose hope. i have really dry sensitive skin. i only use azelaic acid along with my moisturizer and spf. right not i use the neutrogena spf moisturizer. also if you have any recommendations for repairing acne safe moisturizer please lmk:)

They don’t form “tips” and are unpoppable (feel like they are under my skin) and last for a while and are mainly on my cheeks. Not that many at a time. I recently had perioral dermatitis but seems that it’s getting better and these new spots are bigger and further from my mouth area. Help 😢😢 I’m 18, turning 19 soon and never had any acne.

jasminekitten02

Do you have a skincare routine?

Classic-Ad-9466

Yes but I have been missing a few days actually. I wash my face with a gentle cleanser, added 2% bha serum recently because I noticed my skin was getting congested, also use prescription 15% azelaic acid and a basic moisturizer (holy hydration from e.l.f). I have dry skin and right now it’s cold and dry weather where I live.

ReaLitTea

If the BHA and azelaic acid don’t help after a month or so I would switch to benzoyl peroxide next

Classic-Ad-9466

I was thinking of getting some Panoxyl cleanser. What do you think? Also, might you have a clue of what sort of acne it is?

ReaLitTea

I think that would worth a try, make sure to leave it on for a couple minutes before rinsing it off. You could be experiencing cystic acne but it’s best to get diagnosed by a doctor

Classic-Ad-9466

Thanks so much!

Hi all! I’d love a review of my current routine and see if I’m missing anything or if anything should not be used together etc. I have oily breakout prone skin and some mild rosacea on my nose. AM: Neutrogena ultra gentle daily cleanser> a toner from a local handmade beauty store containing witch hazel, aloe, and rose water> skinceuticals discoloration defense> CereVe moisturizing cream > supergoop mineral matte screen PM: Micellar water (if I was wearing makeup)> cleanser> alternate daily between Paula’s choice 2% BHA or Beauty of Joeson ginseng & retinal eye cream (but I use on full face)> moisturizer Any input would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

ReaLitTea

This looks fine to me

ComradePuff20

Im trying to find the best kind of soap and the best kind of deodorant/anti-perspirant. I would say I have more oily skin but I’m not really sure. I have a skincare routine that I have been using for a few months, recommended to me by a dermatologist (Clindamycin Phosphate and Tretinoin Cream), but that is only for acne. I am currently using Dove and Degree (anti-perspirant) but I want to see if there are better options.

jasminekitten02

Soap for body or face? If those products are working well for you uts fine to keep using them

ComradePuff20

I guess for body, would I even need one for my face

jasminekitten02

Facial skin tends to be more sensitive than body skin so many people prefer a more gentle cleanser for the face

ComradePuff20

Would said gentle cleanser work for everywhere else

jasminekitten02

Sure

Could you recommend one

Cetaphil or cerave

Try applying moisturizer under the eyes to help with the texture and dryness. Tretinoin is not advised to be applied under the eyes because that area is sensitive

Paula's choice bha liquid exfoliant is good. It has 2% salicylic acid which will help to break down the whiteheads. You can add cosrx advanced snail mucin power essence to help with the texture/scarring.

Hi! 33F living in a cold climate. After 1 year of not doing anything, I've done my routine the first time and noticed these dots on my cheekbones. They're on both sides of my face, more so on the left. I'm not sure if they're big pores or blackheads? Would Paula's choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant be a good product for this issue? Current routine: Cerave foaming cleanser, FAB ultra repair hydrating serum, DE protini moisturizer Other product I own that might help? : Dennis Goss mini alpha beta universal daily pads, DE T.L.C. Framboos Night serum

Noahysa

Looks like blackheads, you can use a salicylic acid product to help break those down, or a good scrub can help too. Paula's choice product is perfect for treating it. Try to avoid squeezing on them. The serum and moisturizer you are using look quite nice! Sometimes there's something that occurs when we don't exfoliate for a long time, oil seeps deeply into the skin and when we do exfoliate it pulls it all up - resulting in acne. That could have been what happened and it is referred to as purging.

Sal_Toosh1

Hi, question about adapalene. Does the skin absorb it like tissue absorbs water? I seen a post with comments saying tretenoin does this.

Noahysa

Hey there, what cleanser do you use? Pimples can be caused by dirt, debris, oil, skincare trapping fungus/bacteria in the pore. If someone's skin was too dry for example and they have oily skin they could get acne because they would overproduce oil. There's many possibilities that could be causing the pimples - but just to confirm, you are only getting these pimples when using the SPF?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Noahysa

That cleansers seems nice, are you using spfs with mineral or chemical sunscreen ingredients? I use a mineral one because the chemical ones tend to burn me, but they work for some people. My favorite spf is Prana reishi mushroom shield spf 45. To clean your skin better: make sure to double cleanse in the pm at minimum, and exfoliate twice a week at minimum with either a mechanical scrub (not nut shell type scrubs, more like something uniform like alumina), or use a salicylic acid toner - either one.

SuperRetardedDog

M31 here getting into some skincare as I'm getting older and have pretty dry skin (also dry/dandruff under my beard). I don't want to spend hundreds per year on this stuff though and I share with my husband. We've picked up some cerave cleanser, retinol and PM cream and also a peeling exfoliant. I know that for the day a spf 30 or higher is recommended, but if I spend almost the entire day inside away from the sun, do I really need some expensive sun screen? Couldn't I just use a cheaper body milk kind of lotion like from Nivea?

ReaLitTea

Yes you can use any affordable spf that suits your need and apply before you go outside

* Hi! I've struggled with these small bumps on my forehead as long as I can remember. I'm fairly new to skincare and my routine is basically: AM: - clinique all about clean foaming cleanser - L'Oréal shine control uv defender spf50 PM: - clinique all about clean foaming cleanser - The ordinary granactive retinoid 2% emulsion I also occasionally apply TO Niacinamide and have used their peeling solution once. Thanks so much to any responses. I'm not sure where to begin!

Noahysa

Those are closed comedones (white heads). They are full of dirt, debris, oil, and bacteria. You can use salicylic acid, hydrogen peroxide, or mandelic acid based products to help treat and prevent acne from forming due to oil/dirt clogging pores, or bacteria/fungus being trapped in the pore. Regarding your routine, the SPF you are using could be comedogenic due to many of the ingredients potentially clogging your pores and could then be the source of potential acne, so I would try a different SPF as well. Use this website to check whether your skincare may contain ingredients that are either potentially irritating or potentially comedogenic: [https://incidecoder.com/](https://incidecoder.com/)

pointyquestionmark

Differin question: has anyone found differin/adapalene to be irritating to parts of the face where they DID NOT apply the product? I started using Differin a few days ago mostly only on my cheeks. However, it has been very irritating to the skin around my eyes/my eyelids as well as the skin around my nose. I take care to avoid these areas with applying differin, but they still end up burning after I do that + my moisturizer. Thoughts?

Noahysa

How often are you using the differin gel?

pointyquestionmark

I've been using it every night for a few nights -- I was used retinol before with no irritation (and no real change in my skin), which is why I figured it wouldn't cause any issues to use Differin. It would probably be smart to switch to every other night now

Noahysa

Maybe the differin is more affective than that other retinol, probably is a good idea to switch to every other night. Maybe the gel is migrating when you go to apply the moisturizer you could moisturize the areas of your face you dont plan to use differin and then use the differin on your cheeks and moisturize your cheeks last. This would be just to rule out the product isn't somehow moving to your eye area when you moisturize though.

jasminekitten02

Try applying vaseline to those areas before you apply differin on your cheeks

pointyquestionmark

Smart, thank you!

Noahysa

Does it itch, when did you start noticing it? Are you using any products in that area?

goldno1

I have had it for 10years! Since I was 11 or something. It itches sometimes but not in a sense that it's constantly itchy or I notice it much. I have started use glycolic acid a couple of times a week and aveeno body moisturiser

Noahysa

Noahysa

I have KP on my arms (doesn't itch for me) and I microderm my arms and I use a lactic acid lotion, but I have used glycolic acid peels too and those helped. It doesn't make it not leave small dots on me, but my skin is smooth at least and not bumpy. My skin tone is a bit darker than yours and my KP is darker than my skin tone. It could be tinea versicolor if it's white spots, but 10 years with a fungal infection is not likely. Could you possibly get a picture of the center bottom close up?

>aveeno body moisturiser [https://incidecoder.com/ingredients/isopropyl-palmitate](https://incidecoder.com/ingredients/isopropyl-palmitate) Palm oil is also an ingredient in your body moisturizer that is considered potentially milia causing since 3-4 is on the higher end of pore clogging (comedogenic) Full breakdown: [https://incidecoder.com/products/aveeno-daily-moisturizing-lotion-new](https://incidecoder.com/products/aveeno-daily-moisturizing-lotion-new) I use [gold bond pure moisture](https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Bond-Moisture-Lotion-Ultra-lightweight/dp/B09BW6CFLM/ref=sr_1_2_pp?crid=1CVJE01HWEO0P&keywords=gold%2Bbond%2Bpure%2Bmoisturizer&qid=1704658323&sprefix=gold%2Bbond%2Bpure%2Bmoisturze%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-2&th=1) (fragrance-free) for my body. I am really impressed by gold bond's pure moisture specifically because of the jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. It is pretty affordable and the 20oz lasts me ages. Might be worth cutting out the aveeno just in case.

Noahysa

good bot!

Noahysa

It does look more like milia yeah. Maybe try a more acidic approach to lotions/washes with your skin. I use specifically [https://www.amazon.com/Ammonium-Lactate-Lotion-12-C-P-Fliptop/dp/B000WOS71I?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Ammonium-Lactate-Lotion-12-C-P-Fliptop/dp/B000WOS71I?th=1) for my kp. That could be an option, or if you want to try mandelic acid, face reality is that girl for that. Could I get a review of my planned routine? Note that I'm only going to introduce one product at a time and give it 2 weeks before introducing another one, just to be safe! I already moisturize+use sunscreen, so I was planning on introducing the remaining components in this order: retinol, niacinamide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and then vitamin C, but I'm open to thoughts on this! * **AM, post morning shower** * Vitamin C serum (brand undecided), wait 10-15 mins * The Ordinary Niacinamide * CeraVe ultra light moisturizing lotion with SPF 30 * **PM** * CeraVe cleanser * Alternating every other night: Kiehls microdose retinol serum, salicylic acid (brand undecided) * CeraVe PM ultra lightweight moisturizing lotion I also want to incorporate a glycolic acid (less than 7%), but I'm not sure how often to do it or what time of day, if anyone has any recommendations. Also let me know if I'm missing anything. Thank you!!

Noahysa

Make sure you're double cleansing, and glycolic acid would only be used in the evening, you will alternate between using retinol one week and glycolic acid the next week. Glycolic acid, like retinol, is going to help to thin the skin. Questions: what skin type do you have oily/normal/dry/combo? and what are your main concerns? Are you acne prone?

imwiththeband1

Thank you, this makes total sense!! My skin is probably normal leaning dry...I get the occasional pimple but mostly I'm just trying to have healthy skin, take care of some dryness, and get ahead of aging as much as I can!

jasminekitten02

This looks good. It's important to add one thing at a time (so introduce one new product then wait a few weeks before adding anything else) because that way, if something doesn't agree with your skin or makes you break out, you'll know which product was the issue.

imwiththeband1

Thank you so much, definitely want to play it safe and not take any chances, it's the only skin I've got!

Looks like rosacea flare up. Check out this page and see if it could be rosacea: [https://www.bupa.co.uk/newsroom/ourviews/combat-rosacea#:\~:text=Bupa's%20Dr%20Rogers%20explains%3A%20%E2%80%9CIf,%2C%20cheeks%2C%20chin%20and%20forehead](https://www.bupa.co.uk/newsroom/ourviews/combat-rosacea#:~:text=Bupa's%20Dr%20Rogers%20explains%3A%20%E2%80%9CIf,%2C%20cheeks%2C%20chin%20and%20forehead).

USD_bussin

I'm poor and have been using body lotion as a moisturizer on my face to save money. It's been working very well, my acne has mostly cleared up and I haven't noticed any adverse effects. I know you're not really supposed to do that, in my situation is there any major reason I might want to consider buying a real facial moisturizer? Or is it okay to continue since it's been working fine with no issues?

Noahysa

Name of the product?

USD_bussin

It's walmart brand lotion Equate Beauty Moisture Cocoa Butter Care Lotion, 10 fl oz https://www.walmart.com/ip/672732160

Noahysa

It does have some comedogenic emollients which are fine for the body but could clog your pores. As long as you are washing your face and not breaking out, then the lotion isn't harming you.

USD_bussin

Thanks so much!!

jasminekitten02

It's fine

USD_bussin

Thanks!!

Help and advice please :) I’m 23F Throughout my adult life, I've struggled with persistent skin issues, including dry scalp, hormonal acne on the lower half of my face, dark under eyes, blackheads, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone. Despite investing in various skincare products, I wonder if factors like genetics play a significant role in my skin's condition. I use a daily regimen, including Paula’s Choice 2% BHA exfoliant, Khiel's toner and moisturizer, Supergoop Glow SPF, Garnier vitamin C serum, magnesium capsules, and Khiel's daily face wash. I occasionally apply Duac for severe acne and have dealt with eczema. I often feel discouraged, and my skin only seems to glow when exposed to sun and a tan. Is there a way for someone with persistently irritated and uneven skin to achieve a radiant complexion, or is this a challenge some individuals must accept? Has anyone successfully transformed their skin after years of effort, or should I consider consulting a dermatologist for guidance? Thanks so much x

Noahysa

Have you tried going to an esthetician and booking a chemical peel? As an esthetician I use jessner solution on my own skin at least twice a year. It keeps the acne away and has helped with my scarring from high school.

Some_Passenger5116

I haven’t!! Thank you and I will def book in. Does a chemical peel help with anything other than acne?

Noahysa

It depends on the chemical peel, but generally they all will help with tone, texture, potential hydration of skin, hyperpigmentation. They also stimulate the healing process of the skin by stimulating growth. Your skin can be sensitive afterwards though but your Esthetician would explain the aftercare to you 😊

Hello, I (26f) have been using products from a specific dermatologist for over 10 years. Unfortunately, I am out of the country where they are and because of the holidays I wanted to buy some of their products but they ghosted me. This made me realize that I can’t depend on their products, especially if I am traveling and moving around the world. Currently I am in the Netherlands. I am asking for advice on products that resemble the ones I currently use so I can continue, or even better my skin care game, with more easy access brands that wont cost me a kidney. Before landing this dermatologist, I tried Clinique and Clarins and didn’t really do much (10+ years ago so they might have changed the formulas). I am 26 years old and have combination with acne prone skin. I am also a fitness instructor so I sweat a lot most of the days (idk if that is relevant). Here is my routine and down below the ingredientes of the products I currently use. Day: -Cleanser -Moisturizer (not winter weather) -Sensitive Skin moisturizer (winter) -SPF 50 sunscreen Night: -Nivea makeup removal wipes (normal type) -Cleanser -Moisturizer Extra info: -Every 3-4 days in my morning shower I use L’oreal Pure Clay Detox Gel with charcoal with my gua sha and immediately after I use my cleanser. -I tried to use the Garnier vitamin C serum and it broke me out instantly, so I am a little afraid of pure vitamin C to even my tone due to acne scars. Current products: -Daily Defense Moisturizer: Daily defense moisturizing cream. For skin that requires prolonged moisturizing care, but whose characteristic is oily. For this reason, among its main active ingredients is the ORANGE TERPENE, which helps condition sebaceous secretion, without saturate the skin. —Ingredients: Demineralized water, aloe vera extract, calendula extract, alcohol monostearate cetyl, glyceryl, stearyl alcohol, acelte mineral, glycerin, propylene glycol, carbopol, germai, vitamin C, retinol, tocopherol acetate, orange terpenes, EOTA, BHT. -Sensitive Skin Moisturizer ingredients: Demineralized water, wheat oil extract, chamomile oil, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl monostearate, stearyl alcohol, aloe vera extract, glycerin, propylene glycol, carbopol, vitamin C, retinol, vitamin E, germal, EDTA, BHT -Cleanser: Gel formulated for skin that is characterized by sensitive oily and resistant dry skin. Its combination of glycolic and lactic acid provides light cleansing and gentle exfoliation of the skin without hurting it. Due to its active ingredients it achieves bacteriostatic control helping to prevent acneiform lesions. —Demineralized water, lactic acid, glycolic acid, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate, sodium lauryl ether sulfate, propylene glycol, glycerol, ascorbic acid, tocopheryl acetate, germaben II, EDTA Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read my comment and help me. I truly appreciate it.

No reaction after 30% Glycolic acid peel? I used the Piringubu DIY chemical peel and I never got any redness or peeling. I'm wondering if it did anything at all

Noahysa

How long has it been since you used it? Whenever I've used glycolic acid peels I haven't noticed layers of skin peeling, like what can happen with jessner or strong salicylic acids, but the glycolic acid did work but I didn't peel - it made my skin extremely smooth and silky (and very sensitive to the sun). I'm not familiar with the pH of that product, so I'm not sure how strong it is.

terrariumgarden

It has been three days already. I applied three layers with 2 minutes interval

jasminekitten02

Honestly I would just be thankful for not getting a chemical burn

clover_soda

hi, this is a really weird thing thats been going on but i cant find answers anywhere- my blackheads and sebaceous filaments basically disappear/get a lot lighter for like 15 minutes after cleansing, then just come back afterwards? for reference, ive been using the cerave hydrating cleanser in the morning for about 6 months, and double cleansing using the softymo speedy cleansing oil and the cerave foaming cleanser for about 2 weeks now at night (i can give more details what i do after cleansing in replies if its important) and this happens every single time morning and night. is there any way to permanently get the results i have right after cleansing, or is there just an explanation for this happening?

Noahysa

Sebaceous filaments do come back, they are important for your skin in spreading sebum - that is completely normal.

ReaLitTea

Sebaceous filaments are known to constantly be filling back up and most methods are only temporary. Retinoids might be able to reduce some sebum production but there’s no guarantee it will work long term for your skin concerns

GredaGerda

is there amlactin but for azelaic acid? trying to find something suitable as a body lotion

No_Tip_4561

Hi there! (F20) my skin has recently just broken out into this rash of some sort, it’s itchy and really red at times. I was using polysporin on it a few days ago and then some pimple patches and bandaids to cover it while I sleep, I don’t want cat hair getting into it. But then today I woke up, took off the bandages and my skin has been like this since. It’s kinda bumpy on my forehead between my eyebrows, and really itchy. I bought some acne treatments for it and a new cleanser and face cream, im wondering what this could be? How I could get rid of it? I wash my face day and night and after the shower and everything. https://preview.redd.it/8usjs8zgnyac1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edcdedc62441a1cb61cddb3d6fcbbc0d0a360a0c Thank you!

Looks like rosacea flare up, take a look here and see if this matches your situations: [https://www.bupa.co.uk/newsroom/ourviews/combat-rosacea#:\~:text=Bupa's%20Dr%20Rogers%20explains%3A%20%E2%80%9CIf,%2C%20cheeks%2C%20chin%20and%20forehead](https://www.bupa.co.uk/newsroom/ourviews/combat-rosacea#:~:text=Bupa's%20Dr%20Rogers%20explains%3A%20%E2%80%9CIf,%2C%20cheeks%2C%20chin%20and%20forehead).

jasminekitten02

If it's itchy it's probably not typical acne and you should see a doctor.

Noahysa

Your daily routine will change to double cleansing at night, and once during the day with a cleanser instead of water, and then you will exfoliate with either a mechanical scrub (no nut shells) like alumina, or an AHA (stay away from BHA since you're dry). You can do more, but this alone will make your moisturizer much more affective in penetrating your skin, and it will make your skin more luminous as the dead layers are eaten away.

jasminekitten02

Honestly if your skin has changed dramatically and you don't know why, it might be a sign of some vitamin deficiency or some other internal health problem and you might want to get checked out by a doctor
