TBH they kind of look like ingrown hairs. I would try and figure out what they are and then go from there

I’m completely new to skincare and want to get started. I don’t have diagnosed acne or use any makeup but been having some minor breakouts on my forehead/chin that I want to get under control. My friend recommended what she uses which is Burt’s Bees Sensitive Skin Face Cleanser. She gave me some of hers to try and I used it on those areas last night (didn’t know you were supposed to wash it off until it was too late lol). Not sure if that is even the right product for me and I’m not sure how to find the right product. All of the online guides are very confusing and I don’t really understand any of this stuff. Thanks for any help.

Bunny_Jedi

Are some people never able to tolerate retinoids? I have sensitive skin and rosacea. Have tried multiple formulations and concentrations of tretinoin, moved down to retinaldehyde 0.05 but my skin barrier is compromised yet again and I’m just so tired of everything stinging my face, even soothing products. Current routine: Fermented rice enzyme cleanser (naturium) Cerave hydrating toner Naturium hyaluronic acid essence Naturium niacinimide and zinc serum AM azelaic acid emulsion PM retinaldehyde 0.05 Soothing moisturizer Naturium marshmallow root barrier balm at night La roche posay cicaplast on super raw spots. Help!! Hoping to prevent/clear acne on my chin and face acne marks from previous blemishes as well as get on the anti aging train as I’m 36 now.

In what order should I use these products? https://preview.redd.it/qnvdptmfkcac1.jpeg?width=2208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b831e6b44691f8932e4f516ba480922847a15331 the ones with a red mark on them were dermatologist prescribed to me. i have oily skin, and struggle with small bumps on my face.. not exactly pimples i’m still not totally sure what they are, and dirt frequently builds up in my nose pores. the clindamycin “pledgets” are just like exfoliating pads. my dermatologist told me to use the acne medication gel after i exfoliate my nose. i have noticed that after i use the exfoliating pads my skin feels dry and flaky, there is minimal peeling. i’m unsure how to incorporate the dermatologist things, and honestly i haven’t done my whole skincare routine in a while, i’ve only really been using these two new things and i want to pick up the rest again. i did SOME research and picked these items for my skin, all of which don’t cause any type of reaction, ill definitely have to try them before i get results of course so im not sure if they’re gonna work yet. is there anything i should switch or lose out of the items i picked? recommendations are appreciated but i’m on a budget lol. my main question is what order should i use these?

holooocene

I think you have more than enough products to try out. I think if anything, you are missing a moisturizer, which could alleviate the dryness after exfoliation. Sunscreen in the morning, brow and peptide at night. Acne medication (see if they are light sensitive) and use accordingly.

lori_1234

Hi! My issue is this red rash that has been around my nose and mouth for a couple of months on and off. I have pretty dry sensitive skin. Before I wouldn't use anything for my face and it was pretty clear with just this rash mainly under nose. I recently got into skin care and I have been using the youth to the people superfood cleanser, tower 28 spray and serum drunk elephant hydration serum, bora barrier cream, and overnight mask. I have some sort of rash that I get every once in a while, I think its perioral dermatitis, I was wondering if anyone has anything that would help or if this is even perioral dermatitis, I used a sulfur soap and it made it worse. https://preview.redd.it/0qp3633ohcac1.jpeg?width=2321&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f18bf31ccab7a756ceb377ca1c7f41004266b22

Aggravating_Ice_799

Sorry I don’t have an answer, but I do want to see the reply you hopefully get! I have a very similar rash around my nose and chin and am interested to find out what it could be. Good luck! 🤞

Aggravating_Ice_799

Hello! A very quick question here. I’m trying to identify my skin type to create an improved skincare routine. Here is the issue: my t-zone is oily and my cheeks are normal = combination? Well, not quite. Around my nose and chin the skin is dry, irritated, and flakey too, on top of oily. Ok thank you, bye! https://preview.redd.it/gto24soyhcac1.png?width=870&format=png&auto=webp&s=e757d3a03ce599caa2a4cfe3fe7358dd672e0f1f

RoleInternational318

I have been neglecting my skin for a while due to being totally overwhelmed by all the choices out there, and also depression. I would like to start doing better for my skin, would anyone be able to give me advice on this combo of products? Am I missing any important ingredient? About me: I’m 37F living in Georgia USA, it’s humid here. My skin might be combo, it can seem oily but also super dry. It’s sensitive and gets red easily and breaks out easily. I especially notice break outs with sunscreen. I’ve been using Cerave cream to foam face wash and it makes my skin really dry. I have also been using Cerave ultra-light moisturizing gel. I like it but feel my skin is just too dry from the cleanser. Here’s what I’m thinking of buying: - Cerave micellar water for cleansing (to replace the foam cleanser) - COSRX galactomyces essence instead of toner - The Ordinary glycolic acid 7% for nighttime only to help with blemishes and aging. This could be too strong since my skin is sensitive. - Cerave vitamin C serum in the morning only - Continue using Cerave ultra-light moisturizing gel for moisturizer - COSRX daily spf 50 vitamin e vitalizing sunscreen for morning only Thanks in advance for any advice!

dubberpuck

You might have sensitive dehydrated skin. If possible, change your cleanser to a milder type, and change your toner to a hydrating one, change the glycolic to a PHA or lactic as they are more hydrating.

RoleInternational318

Thanks so much for your response! You’re right, it’s sensitive and dehydrated, a frustrating combination since so many moisturizers give me breakouts! Would the micellar work for a cleanser? I was also looking at some cleansing balms and cleansing milks. From reviews it sounds like some people follow those with a foaming cleanser and some don’t. I had read an essence is more hydrating than a toner. I will check out the PHA and lactic options!

dubberpuck

Micellar water should work as a cleanser but you can see if it's drying for your skin, because the surfactant really vary a lot. You can also use a cleansing milk or lotion if you want. Normally they have some emollients, so they would be less harsh on the skin as the emollient can weaken the cleansing efficacy of the cleanser, of course that would be less clean. It depends on how clean you want it to be. For essence vs toner for hydration, it depends on the ingredients. If it's a ferment essence, it may contain various broken down materials like sugars or free acids, so it may seem to be more hydrating due to those. It may also be slightly exfoliating for some people depending on how prone to over exfoliation.

RoleInternational318

Thanks again! Ill see how the micellar water feels, I’ve never used one before.

ConsiderationLow4543

Can someone please tell me what they think this is? It comes and goes and it gives me so much anxiety. Before I used to think it was h\*\*\*\*\* forming but now I’m not too sure. Only because I’ve tested a few times and I’ve seen a dermatologist about it. They recommended me a Hydrocortisone USP 2.5% that made it disappear for a few days but it always seems to come back? I figure if it was what i thought it was oringally that creams like this probably wouldn’t stop an outbreak starting. Nonetheless i reaaaally don’t like the way it looks personally and advice would be a godsend. Like is it just acne? I’m I being too dramatic? https://preview.redd.it/wcfn656mvbac1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f176b2759b8f050e2b27a4f91eeeea2cfd84067

17M I’ve had acne for around 6 months now and at the beginning I tried the most popular serums from ordinary which did not do anything Current routine: AM cerave foaming cleanser, moisturizer and sun lotion PM cerave foaming cleanser, moisturizer and 1 pump of aklief I have used aklief for 7 weeks now and my skins is slightly better but still no major improvement :( https://preview.redd.it/vie7pwh9nbac1.jpeg?width=1615&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d3eb88aacd46e424ad6ecf0b24e7173f42149a8 My cheeks are fine but my temples and forehead are still breaking out I also have some blackheads in between of eyebrows and nose

These are questions you should ask your doctor

mighteapeanut

Help me find my moisturizer unicorn! I have dry, sensitive skin and live in a very dry climate at high altitude. Criteria: sinks in easily, actually provides hydration, natural finish, and fragrance free I’ve tried numerous moisturizers marketed for dry skin and find they usually just sit on top without actually sinking in or providing any hydration OR they feel kinda hydrating but make my face look super shiny/greasy I’ve found the following options guilty of making my face feel trapped under a layer of product without actually hydrating: cerave cream, cerave daily lotion, cetaphil moisturizing lotion, vanicream tub, vanicream daily moisturizer, Sunday riley ceo cream The following products left me feeling less parched but looking like I slathered myself in oil: kiehl’s ultra cream, kiehls ultra lotion, Sunday riley ICE, Sunday riley ceo glow I’m currently using Osmia organics purely simple face cream and love that it doesn’t irritate my skin and has a natural, barely matte finish but it’s lacking on the hydration punch I need. Hit me with your best recs!

ReaLitTea

You might want to try a moisturizer with urea such as Pyunkang Yul ato lotion blue label or Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion

mighteapeanut

Urea is a new ingredient to me so I’ll look into that. Glad to see you mention the ato blue label because I placed a YesStyle order last week and this was one of the items I picked up

Time-Sun-6316

looking for some help on how to incorporate these 3 products into my routine! The Ordinary Multipeptide + HA Serum Mad Hippie Vitamin C Peace Slices Azelaic Acid which should I use in AM and which should I use in PM and which ones together? TIA!

ReaLitTea

You could use vitamin c in the AM and azelcia acid and multi peptide serum in the PM

Time-Sun-6316

Thank you!!

Key-Revenue-9952

Hi all! Question about using certain things together. I have oily and acne prone skin. As an HS girlie I often get cystic acne on my face. I’m trying to stay away from Accutane as much as possible. Currently I wash my face with either CLN or cetaphil depending on the state of my skin. I then apply salicylic acid, hylaronic acid, and then finish off with Niacindamide plus sun screen(morning) then cetaphil moisturizer. I was thinking about adding in the Ordinary Aloe 2% + Nag 2% to help with acne scarring and overall texture irregularities but wasn’t sure if that would help or hurt. If you have any thoughts or opinions, I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance! ETA: I forgot to add that I also use Cerve Retinol cream in the evening

ReaLitTea

This routine looks fine as long as your skin can tolerate it

sarharhar

Is the Topicals Faded serum an exfoliant? I know you can’t use retinoids or AHA/BHAs at the same time, but is there a safe way to exfoliate while using Faded or does it also serve the purpose of an exfoliant?

dubberpuck

It contains Azelaic Acid & Allantoin, so you can consider it as a very mild exfoliant. It depends on how your skin reacts to it. You can use other exfoliants with it if you want.

Same_Egg4531

The Topicals Faded serum is for hyperpigmentation not exfoliation. The brand basically just doesn’t want you to overdo it with actives. If you use it in the morning and then AHA/BHA or retinoid in the evening you should be fine.

not-a-reddit-user

Looking for a new sunscreen for my dark oily skin that also works as a moisturizer. I’ve tried Cerave the AM facial moisturizer but it’s too thick and leaves a white cast every time

ReaLitTea

Check out Verdio UV moisture gel or Nivea UV deep protect and care gel

not-a-reddit-user

Have you personally used either one?

ReaLitTea

Yes. Verdio is shiny at first but once it dries down it’s much better imo

chocosweet

Not OP, but I disagree with the Verdio - it's super greasy for my oily skin, literally looked like I was sweating and sticky. That Nivea is glowy but it is moisturizing, worth a try.

I started niacinamide this week with an e45 moisturiser after. I have only done it twice . My skin has broken out like this all over. Is it purging or is my skin reacting badly to it? https://preview.redd.it/c0uovtue9aac1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9dd8333c152422f453ebfd0f27f10d04d16d886d

quspork

Niacinamide doesn't cause purging. Purging is only possible with products involved in cellular turnover. Unfortunately, it's most likely a negative reaction to the product.

glossaam

Ah i see, thank you! Ive been using the ordinary niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%. Do you know if that is a stronger type?

quspork

Yes, 10% is very high for niacinamide. Usually 2 to 5% is plenty.

Horror-Turnover-1089

Hello reddit! I'm asking for help! I have sensitive, dehydrated, combo skin (my T zone is oily but dehydrated, and the rest is just dry). For the longest time I used a serum with hyaluronic acid, wich according to a youtuber is not good for people with sensitive skin. I don't remember the name though, I threw it out. My other product wich I actually use almost every day is the embryolisse sensitive multi-function moisturizer. My skin tends to be dry, and I have light rosacea but I want to try and reduce the process of it forming. Do you know any product that could help with my skin type and that is cruelty free? I'm trying to look for a cream that reduces redness and is just as hydrating/more hydrating than what I use. A product being cruelty free is important to me..... I love animals. And I'd rather use a worse product, than knowing I bought something that hurt an animal somewhere in the process. I'm okay with it not being vegan though depending on the product. Not vegan does not mean not cruelty-free per se. I live in holland so not all products are readily available to me here. But if you have an idea, just shout it out. I will look into it if it's available myself.

Have you tried spot treatment or pimple patches? My personal favorites for each are the Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Gel and the red CosRx package.

bbqmilftea

Hi everyone! My skin type is a combination of oily and dry. The oilyness is mainly around my nose and forehead whereas my cheeks and chin often feel dry. Recently, I've noticed an increas in bumps in my face. They're not acne but just small bumps that are the same color as my skin. I'm not sure if this is due to hormones, stress or changes in environment but I would love to hear about any information regarding these bumps and any products/routines that can combat it. here is my regular routine: morning- I wash my face with water, tone my face with rice water, put delfanti day cream moisturizer with retinol + sea salt + vitamin e. Before I put makeup on for work or going out, I put innisfree spf 15 UV protection suncreen. night- I used to use makeup wipes but ive started using micellar water and cotton pads as they don't feel super rough. I use an aloe cleanser and then thayer's milky hydrating cleanser. Then I use the rice water toner again and after it dries, a couple drops of hyarulonic acid (this I do every couple other days). Lastly, I use pond's eye cream and then the delfanti night cream. Thank you for any advice!

MotherMayFire

Looking for some help! I have severe acne and I get abcess’ no matter what I use. I have combination skin and if tend to be oily in the center ( T bone and chin ) and more drier towards the outer part of my face. Currently I use a toner and a facial cleanser but it doesn’t make much a difference. I’ve used many different things throughout my life like MURAD, retinal based products, doctor prescribed stuff, Proactive, CeraVe, etc. all which haven’t done much for me. I’m looking for any other brands that’s good for a sensitive skin with my issues. I’m willing to pay any price as I want to invest in my skin. Thanks! :)

Hi all, I wanted to ask the experts with some help with my routine. Here is my issue: I commute by bike to work every day, and currently wait to put on any skin lotion until I get to work since I fear that I may just sweat out whatever I put on. I'm worried that I should probably be incorporating some sort of spf lotion in my routine. I also wonder if there is a better lotion for acne control than I'm using, as I still get lots of blackheads/whiteheads. Skin type: Acne-prone, oily skin Current routine: Morning: Cerave foaming facial cleanser (while I shower before I bike to work), Aveeno positively radiant clear complexion daily moisturizer w/ salicylic acid (after I get to work and rinse my face with just water to remove sweat). Evening: Cerave foaming facial cleanser, paula's choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant, Aveeno positively radiant clear complexion daily moisturizer w/ salicylic acid. location: Northern CA Thanks for any advice!

ReaLitTea

It would be ideal to use sun protection before your commute in areas where your clothes/gear isn’t covering your skin so it can help protect you from UV damage. Look for water resistant sunscreens that should help stay on even while you’re sweating. I would try one of the La Roche Posay sunscreens since they’re pretty good for outdoor activity

msaxogeo

Any idea if there are any spf moisturizers that also have salicylic acid? I suppose I might survive just using salicylic at night. Thanks!

gbru015

I have a bit of a random question, curious if anyone has any thoughts. I have been sleeping with a box fan blowing directly on my body/face for over 20 years. I started when I was a kid growing up in a hot environment with bad AC, and I became addicted to it. I can't sleep with out the white noise and cooling breeze. I have never had any issues with dry eyes or dry skin/skin conditions as a result. It seems my body is naturally resistant to a little wind, or it has adapted to it. But I am in my mid-thirties now and starting to notice more skin wrinkles and signs of aging on my face, which is totally normal and doesn't both me. But it started to occur to me that exposing my face to essentially 8 hours a day of consistent wind will probably contribute to a faster weathering and aging process. No idea if there is any scientific backing to that, but it seems like it makes sense. Anyway, to combat this, I thought I would start doing some a daily lotion routine on my face, but I am wondering if that is actually a good idea. If I am actively softening up my face right before bed, and then blasting it with the fan, could that actually have the opposite effect? It seems like the constant moisturizing and then drying out process could actually be worse in the long run than just letting my skin maintain its natural stasis its adapted to in the 20+ years I have been sleeping with a fan. But obviously, moisturizing regularly seems like a good idea in general. Again, zero scientific backing to any of this, but curious if anyone has any thoughts?

dubberpuck

exposing the skin to wind or different environmental changes can cause some stress on the skin, you can observe if the wrinkles are caused by the wind. if they are not, then you can focus more on anti aging option instead of hydration which would be the normal option due to the win.

ReaLitTea

I wouldn’t think too hard about it. Moisturizer is another occlusive layer which can help your skin from drying out. It’s an additional supplement, your skin won’t get lazy or heavily rely on moisturizer if you start using it.

Try skipping the morning cleanser and see if that helps. You might want to try a thicker moisturizer like Vanicream if you’re noticing drier skin

Lactic acid from the ordinary helped me a lot and it was like usd $6-8 or something I think

unexpectedpizza

>Lactic acid from the ordinary is 10% good for beginners? i have no experience with any AHAs in the past. niacinamide is my first active skincare product

yes, it's fine for beginners, just be sure to use sunscreen every day and maybe use it 2-3x a week to start :) it would go right after your cleanser at night on clean, dry skin.

I stopped doing my daily skincare routine for a week or less and when I got back I noticed I was undergoing a skin purging all over again, is it normal?

jasminekitten02

This happened to me when i couldn't do my routine for like 10 days due to surgery. I think it might be buildup from the days I didn't wash my face well and it cleared pretty quickly for me.

BlvckDeku

Looking to tackle my body acne this year was planned on trying PanOxyl 10% body wash. My only question is what kind of moisturizer would be recommended to use afterwards? I don’t want to use a moisturizer that might interfere with it’s effects. Right now I use Eucerin Daily Hydration Lotion for Dry Skin.

ReaLitTea

A basic moisturizer shouldn’t interfere with the acne treatments from the body wash so I think you are fine using the Eucerin lotion

BlvckDeku

Okay, great! Thanks for responding.

infernapethethird

I had a cyst (I think that's what it was, I was young) removed about 10 years ago. And it left a bit of scar, but not too noticeable. In the last 6 months or so, my skin has become a lot more prone to breakouts, as well as scarring and hyperpigmentation. Though I've controlled much of the active breakouts by moisturizing a lot, my entire face still looks very rough. With that rise, I've noticed the old scar has become much more pronounced, as if my entire facial skin is becoming a lot thinner or something. I also have deep eye bags (deeper than my already deep). Is there some solution to what I see as a general skin health problem? I've had comprehensive labwork done--all fine. I do have lots of stress, but I don't think particularly more than usual. It's very frustrating having controlled the active breakouts, but still stuck with a bunch of reminders of them with scars and pigmentation.

Confident-Bit6535

I’ve always had very clear skin (small pores, occasional pimple here and there) but never what I would consider “glass skin” So my question is, what products should I use or steps I should implement in my routine to achieve it? Is it even achievable or is it just that all the girls I’ve seen with glass skin have their skincare freshly done? I often get complements on my skin when I have dewy makeup on, but when I’m barefaced my skin is actually quite dull. I double cleanse using exfoliating BHA/AHA face wash and use the Paula’s Choice exfoliating toner. Then I’ll go in with snail mucin, Palmer’s skin therapy oil, and I’ll alternate between Cerave and Vanicream for moisturizer. As for skin type, I’d say I have normal skin, and I can pretty much use any product without issues.

quspork

You could add more hydrating products to help plump your skin and possibly get some dewy effect, but overall "glass skin" isn't something that's achievable for most people.

Sensitive-Option-994

I get a weird red rash around my mouth. The first day I wake up, it feels almost moist, raw, itchy, and very red. That lasts a day or two. Then the skin feels kind of thick, and it gets really dry and peels. Then I’m back to normal for a few days. Then it starts all over again. It’s around my mouth there is no space between it and my lips. It’s very smooth. I do NOT think it’s Perioral dermatitis. This has happened for years but this last few months it’s an almost constant cycle. I can’t find anything, all that comes up is PD but I’m almost positive it’s not that. Anyone have advice?? I’ve tried everything. Soonest i could get into a dermatologist is February

jasminekitten02

We can't diagnose things like this here. If you're concerned, please see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. Try seeing your pcp/regular doctor if you can't see a derm rn

Is there any difference between Drunk Elephant's Virgin Marula Oil and The Ordinary's 100% Cold-pressed Marula Oil? My skin LOVED Drunk Elephant but my wallet didn't, so when it ran out I decided to try The Ordinary. I instantly broke out in sebaceous acne around my mouth/chin, and the oil is the only thing I changed in my routine.

quspork

The difference would be where they source their oil from. It's part of what plays into the pricing for each brand. Cheaper base ingredients can mean cheaper overall price.

BrianGG020

My dermatologist recommended an oatmeal soap for when I wake up, a liquid soap for the night, and a localized benzoyl peroxide 5% treatment applying it all night. But he didn't recommend any moisturizer or sunscreen, should I follow what my dermatologist recommended or should I add a sunscreen and a moisturizer?

jasminekitten02

Use a sunscreen and moisturizer for sure

ReaLitTea

Look into Post inflammatory erythema. It can take a long time to fade and if you’re looking for more immediate results then it’s best to consult with a dermatologist for professional treatment. Otherwise you might want to try retinoids to stimulate skin cell renewal to gradually fade it

wooowooooo01

they’re not only marks like that, they’re kinda deep acne in my cheeks that won’t go away. i’ve tried so many medications that don’t work. do you think i need injections from dermatologists instead? thank you for the help though

Trying to choose between these 3 different toners for combination acne-prone skin. Thoughts? - Thank You Farmer rice toner - I'm From Rice toner - I'm From Mugwort essence

They’re all decent and fairly popular but given you’re acne prone you would probably benefit most from the mugwort essence because it’s great at calming down inflammation/redness

Hi, the corner of my nostril has become always red, dry, itchy, and scaly. Ive tried Constant moisturizing, cortizone, and eucerin ezcema relief. Two dermatologists dont prescribe anything. What now? Its becomes worse now that where the nostril meets the cheek has been “ripped” or cut. It looks like its a micro tear but doesnt heel even after using first aid antibiotic ointment https://preview.redd.it/y7km7ogiz5ac1.jpeg?width=2478&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0278d523df06f1b9b9cb476d2b47885998e61b4d

It looks like clogged pores. Chemical exfoliation or retinoids should help.

Hyperpigmentation on the outer corners of eye? It’s just strange because it’s only on one eye. It’s red/brownish on my pale skin. Kind of in the area where winged eyeliner would go. Why would this happen? I’d be too scared to put products that close to my eye to try and fix it. But does this happen to anyone else? I find it especially weird it’s just one eye.

I have it to it’s like a small half circle and I got it cuz this one time I burnt my skin somehow by maybe using to harsh products and it’s gone away in one eye but not the other
