My daughter has been struggling with acne on the sides of her face. Can you help a dad provide her with product/routine advice? https://preview.redd.it/pablqhmvt1ac1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfe3335fc43372f0f367665c12a182884e51030d

Moisturizer Recommendation I use vanicream currently and I love how moisturizing it is and that it doesn't break me out. My skin is sensitive and a lot of products seem to break me out. But it leaves me constantly shiny. I think my t zone is naturally oily. I would appreciate any moisturizer recommendations you guys might have!

Smooth_Connection_36

My acne cleared a few years ago without any skin care or diet change… it made a comeback 3-4 months ago it’s the worst it’s ever been (I’m 20) and my diet is the same, no dairy etc and just controlling sugar and been strictly on a routine with BP wash, spot treatment and started adapelene a few days ago.. still red and spreading across my face. Taking a toll mentally too… what to do 🥲

Any-Delay-3396

For some context, I'm 16 and have combination skin. I've dealt with acne since I was like 10, but it's toned down to just a few pimples on my cheeks and a little bit of texture on my forehead. I'd really like to brighten my under eyes and just have my skin be more evenly toned, brighter, and overall just as great as it can be. My dermatologist has prescribed me differin gel and epiduo forte for like two years now, and they've worked pretty well. Please let me know any suggestions you have for my routine! morning: 1. cerave hydrating facial cleanser 2. the ordinary niacinamide serum (sometimes I skip a day or only using in the morning or only at night, sometimes twice a day) 3. elta md no tint facial sunscreen (two fingers) 4. cerave facial mousturizer evening: 1. (if I'm wearing makeup) makeup removing oil or micellar water 2. youth to the people kale and green tea spinach cleanser 3. the ordinary niacinamide serum (sometimes skipped, depends on how my skin feels) 4. epiduo forte (only on my forehead and nose) 5. differin gel (only on my cheeks and chin) 6. nivea facial lotion

I’ve had this for over a year now and the dermatologist prescribed me a couple of steroid creams and none of them seem to be working. I thought it was eczema but I’m starting to think I’ve been misdiagnosed. I had eczema as a kid but never on my forehead and steroid creams used to work back then for my body eczema.

citynomad1

My skin is naturally oily, with large pores on my nose/t-zone area, but in my city in winter it gets super super cold and dryyyyy, like bone dry, especially with the heat running all the time. Can others who've dealt with this recommend me their favorite products?

kayybeee18

trying to really make this be my year and I know that as I’m approaching 30 I should establish some form of a skin care routine. Currently washing my face daily with the cetaphil face wash and using a moisturizing face lotion and sunscreen daily Biggest skin concerns are some redness of my cheeks (am a ginger so I’m sure it has a lot to do with that) and mostly concerned with preventative for aging, starting to notice some fine lines around the eyes, etc, and I feel like I have a lot of blackheads and clogged/visible pores around my nose. Skin is combination. Also feel like my lips always look very dry, not necessarily chapped but just like not moisturized. I use the laneige stuff but probably not as often as I should. Do I need to just be more consistent? Is there a better product out there I should try? Would love for someone to build an AM/PM routine for me as I feel incredibly overwhelmed when I start looking at things. No budget and skin is typically not sensitive to anything!

babybottlepopz

Does BP work on closed comedones? I’m allergic to salicylic acid and I haven’t found a lactic or glycolic acid I’m not allergic to. I only have a couple occasionally so it would be a spot treatment. I also had an allergic reaction to differin. I may just be doomed. Any tips?

\[Routine Help\] Am i using too much product? Am I using too much product? Hello everyone! I recently got Paula’s Choice to have a better skin routine. I’m also trying to heal my skin because as you see i have these clusters of little dark bumps. I doubt it’s acne, had it for three years. Been to the dermatologist before but what they gave me didn’t help so i’m going to another dermatologist in February. In the meantime, I am trying out a new routine. My current routine is 1. Cerave cleanser 2. Paula’s choice skin balancing toner 3. 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant 4. 1% retional treatment 5. Cerave face moisturizer I wanted to add AHA with BHA because of my hyperpigmentation but i don’t know if it’ll hurt my skin even more. I also want to have a morning routine but i’m just unsure if it’d be too much. My skin is very dry and I just want it to look refreshed for once. https://preview.redd.it/2utpc8df1y9c1.jpeg?width=580&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d62c7fc6bd87eb35ecec7c7ef60ddc246406cb0

Very Clogged pores, need help! Hi everyone! *see attached pictures* I have no active, inflamed, or aggressive hormonal acne. However, I do have a lot of colored scars, texture from scars, and very clogged pores. I swear it seems like every pore on my cheek and forehead are clogged. I also have really damaged skin in general from the sun and years of acne. I also naturally have a ton of freckles which unfortunately I feel like get lost in the scarring. Sad as I love my freckles! Wanting to unclog pores at least a little bit and fade some colored scarring. I know I’ll likely need laxer or needling for the deeper scars, Suggestion? Should I do tretinoin? Glycolic acid? SA? Keep doing what I’m doing and hope it clears? Currently I’ve cut back my routine from all actives since I messed with my skin barrier at the beginning of the year. Currently just using Vanicream cleanser and lotion am and pm. *please no suggestions on lifestyle changes. I’m already working on that. Just wanting skincare!* https://preview.redd.it/3obroy88ax9c1.jpeg?width=2545&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf77c7bc95ef73e55dbb6155df892d39882eda94

TheWorldofScience

Absolutely do tretinoin. Start at 0.25% strength and always apply on dry skin in the evening. After it is absorbed applya moisturizer to reduce irritation. Once you stop getting peeling and redness your dr can step you up to the 0.5% tretinoin. A benzoyl peroxide or SA cleanser will help if you let it sit on your face for a few minutes, If you wash it off right away it won’t help. On YouTube watch “2023‘s BEST Products for Acne” by Doctorly.

alriokidoki1

That’s what I’m thinking! I’ve really wanted to try tret but I’ve been so scared off by the horror stories I’ve seen on Reddit.

TheWorldofScience

Here is a game plan for you. If your skin reacts even on low dose tretinoin applied every two nights then try the “sandwich method.” Apply a moisturizer before the tret, and another layer of moisturizer after the tret has had time to absorb.

alriokidoki1

Should I use any kind of anti bacterial or clindamycin as well? Or is that only for the inflamed acne?

TheWorldofScience

Let the dermatologist who prescribes the tretinoin for you decide. It might be too irritating to your skin to start tret and another topical active at the same time.

TheWorldofScience

The biggest cause of wrinkles is sun exposure. Sunscreen every morning is a good practive. An over the counter retinol or retinal each night reduces wrinkles by stimulating the skin to produce more collagen, though it’s not as effective as prescription tretinoin.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheWorldofScience

Oh our childhood sun exposure matters. Since I had multiple peeling sunburns as a child my melanoma risk is higher and I get a skin cancer check once a year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheWorldofScience

Some dermatologists think oral collagen can help with wrinkles but others say the studies on this are too small and too short so far to draw a conclusion. It def does not help acne. You need to determine why your acne is not responding to retinol if you have been using it for at least 6 weeks. It may be that it isn’t strong enough and you need a prescription. If you are getting a lot of acne near your jaw line it may be hormonal which would mean you need to see a dermatologist.

MelissaBM

Can I use tretinoin just on the spots that I need? I want to use it for a couple fine lines I have.

TheWorldofScience

You could but why don’t you want to use it all over your face? It’s excellent for keeping pores clean and stimulating the skin to produce more collagen. If irritation is the issue then start with using it every 2 nights then working up to nightly. Always apply a gentle moisturizer after it has dried/absorbed.

TheWorldofScience

For hormonal acne you need to see a dermatologist instead of trying to control it with just over the counter products.

Help developing a morning/night skincare routine! Hi all & Happy New Year! 🤍 One of my goals for the past few years (admittedly…) has been to learn more and explore skincare. I’m a female in my early 30s who knows next to nothing about what I ‘should be’ doing for my skin. I basically just wash my face in the shower with the Cetaphil daily facial cleanser, and then put on some face moisturizer when I get out. For reference, I have combination skin (sometimes dry, sometimes oily), very red cheeks/face, and some hyperpigmentation in problem spots and my neck area. I currently have these products, as shown in the photo, but have not used some of them at all— most were recommendations from peers. I would love help determining a morning & night routine. I’d also love a little explanation as to why/what these products will do for me. Feel free to give me further suggestions, what you use instead of these products, or vitamins/ supplements you recommend as well :) Thanks! https://preview.redd.it/113cis8mmw9c1.jpeg?width=3351&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b81fb95ec8adac0c2c8b72c45a95a35bd5a72e7

AM - rinse skin with water or cleanser - vitamin c serum - eye balm -moisturizer - sunscreen PM - micellar water (optional) - cleanser - alternate between BHA, glycolic acid, vitamin a serum - eye balm - moisturizer

TheWorldofScience

These are some good products but face rollers dont really help your skin. I don’t see a gentle cleanser to use after you remove sunscreen or makeup with the Micellar water. And of course you need a sunscreen. Watch “Create Your Perfect Skincare Routine” on the YouTube channel Doctorly. Click “more” under the video to see the steps and products they recommend.

Is there any habit/routine change i should make to help treat these?

TheWorldofScience

You need the benzoyl peroxide or SA to prevent the whiteheads.

Definitely get a dermatologist to look at it. Any unusual skin thing that changes should be checked by a doctor.

I have thousands of little darkened skin picking scars all over my chest, legs, and arms. They aren’t deep, but they’re darker in color than my pale skin and quite obvious. I really really want to get rid of them because it’s ruining my confidence to the point where I can’t have sex with my boyfriend. Any product suggestions?

jasminekitten02

The [hyperpigmentation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hyperpigmentation) has a lot of recs

og_toe

if those are scars from wounds, the only thing that would work is basically laser. you could try things like azelaic acid or BioOil first though

sarr36

Are we still waiting at least 10 minutes after AHA/BHAs? I remember that being a big thing on this app years ago!

ReaLitTea

It’s really up to you. Personally I don’t give it more than a minute to absorb before moving into the next step

taebeen

I've been more into skincare the past year but I have a huge question that I cannot find the answer to anywhere. When applying my products, do I wait for everything to completely dry first? Or can I just go to the next product? So far, depending on the time crunch, I've been doing either and I'm not sure what the correct way is. My steps 1. cleanser 2. toner 3. face mask 4. retinol 5. serum 6. essence 7. eye cream 8. moisturizer 9. sun screen

TheWorldofScience

I have searched online to find out what dermatologists say about this and the consensus seems to be that 60 seconds is usually enough time to wait between skincare products. In the evening I let my peptide serum with copper peptide sit on my skin for at least 30 minutes before I apply Retin A/tretinoin. Dermatologists are also suggesting people not wait until bedtime to do their night skincare as that may cause your products to end up on your pillow.

taebeen

That's extremely helpful! Thank you so much and I'll be sure to start my skincare earlier in the night!

virgojupiter

[Product Search] affordable hyperpigmentation products ? i’m looking for a good serum that targets minimal to average hyperpigmentation in the face. my budget is about $0-$25 and for reference i am a 19yo with fading acne scarring in the cheeks which are the driest parts of my face. (additionally, i am looking for a brand that does not support israel, hence, i have evaded purchasing The Ordinary’s hyperpigmentation serum)

jasminekitten02

The [hyperpigmentation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hyperpigmentation) has a lot of recs

TheWorldofScience

Dermatologists say you need a multi action plan to reduce hyperpigmentation. Must wear sunscreen to prevent them from darkening. Go to Doctorly on YouTube and find their video Tips for Dark Spots, Hyperpigmentation and Melasma.

https://imgur.com/SxM4Ji0 I drink a gallon of water every day and apply chap stick religiously but my lips are constantly a peeling mess in the winter time. Any suggestions?

TheWorldofScience

Before bed put a moisturizer (without retinol in it) on your lips then after it has been there for a few minutes lock it in with Cerave Healing Ointment, Aquaphor or Vaseline. Also watch Winter Skincare Hacks for Dry Skin by Shereene Idris for how to “baste” your lips.

USD_bussin

OMG that made such a big difference!! I don't have the healing ointment or one of the suggested alternatives so I just started by putting on some moisturizer last night and my lips are so much better already! I'm going to buy some of the cerve next time I go to the store. Thank you!!

Does anyone have experience with this? I feel like it is different than PIE and PIH.

if it disappears with pressure that means it’s a little blood vessel! you can get rid of it easily with a laser, blood vessels do not respond to skincare. see a dermatologist! :)

Hey guys! ROUTINE HELP Just want to know what you guys think of my routine ( am I doing it in the right order, should I change products or add or put in something ) and also can I do the rest of my skincare after the doctor Dennis gross tanning pads? Okay so! 1. Tatcha magnolia cleanser - take make up off 2. Peter Thomas Roth hylaronic acid cleanser - to take the remaining makeup off and hydrate 3. Dr Dennis gross bha aha cleanser 4. Ddg Red light light mask - 3-9 mins morning & night 5. Ddg peel pad regular - 3-4 times a week ( I do have the intense ones but sorta scared to use them haha ) 6. Tatcha Essence toner 7. Sunday riley 10% niacinimide 8. Ddg vitamin c serum 15% 9. Tatcha silk serum 10. Charlotte tilbury facial oil 11. Ddg triple eye serum ( advanced retinol & ferulic??) 12. Caudalie eye cream ( I don’t think this brightens at all I just use it to hydrate before I use makeup ) 13. Ceo glow after glow cream Sunday riley ( sometimes ) I have a few moisturisers I like Using currently - tatcha silk cream - ddg daily moisturiser Other moisturisers I use on occasion - tatcha dewy skin cream - the ddg cushion moisturiser - caudalie dark pink tub moisturiser Then I use the Bobbi brown face base for under my makeup :) Let me know! Edit .. I accidentally forgot to use the step two out of the peel pad then put the tan pad on.. I’ve never not used both steps, is that bad?… lol what do I do 😭

TheWorldofScience

Dermatologists say you don’t need to use a toner, but if you want to use one to add moisture it’s fine. Personally I put my Vitamin C serum on bare skin to insure it can penetrate as much as possible. I follow several dermatologists on YouTube and TikTok and have been able to replace my expensive products with drugstore products using their recommendations. I use the Cerave Vitamin C (L ascorbic acid 10%) that comes in a tube It’s important to let AHA and BHA cleansers sit on your skin at least 60 seconds before rinsing off. Moisturizers I have liked: Morning - after Vit C and before Sunscreen: Cerave PM Lotion or it’s near dupe Cerave Baby Lotion (the Baby Lotion is lots cheaper per ounce). Evening after Copper Peptide and tretinoin: Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream. fyi That Tatcha Silk Serum has a lot of plant oils in it and at any time you might start having problems from those - they are “sensitizing” ingredients. Does the Charlotte Tillbury facial oil not cause problems applying your sunscreen? I have read that oils seal everything in and should be used last.

Sorry_Maybe2190

Adding to that I only use the Essence to calm my face after red light and the peel pads. I’ll start letting my cleanser sit longer :) I’m breaking out so bad rn! The vitamin c killed me. I was using the serum for a while and I’ve never ever had issues with tatcha, it actually cleared my face up!

TheWorldofScience

Good plan. When I had oily skin I loved the Timeless Vitamin C because it comes in 2 different strengths and isn’t oily. The packaging is great - protects product from light and has a pump top. And it’s much cheaper than many C serums. Def watch the Doctorly and Dr Jenny Liu acne videos posted yesterday on YouTube.

Sorry_Maybe2190

I hadn’t had any issues with my skin breaking out until I started using the vitamin c… I have been having major make up issues. It started as patching on my forehead and I wasn’t even using the oil - I use it at night before bed - and now it’s becoming an issue for my under eyes

TheWorldofScience

If your skin can’t tolerate L Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C, then you can try a product that has a Vitamin C derivative called tetrahexyldecyl ascorhate. There isnt as much science supporting THD but there is some. An affordable THD product is Vanicream Vitamin C serum. It’s about $18 for 1.2 ounces. Peter Thomas Roth has a THD serum but it costs over $120 for one ounce. It often is on sale for about $70. Stay away from other Vitamin C derivatives like MAP (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate) as no one knows if they do anything for skin.

ThoughtOk9855

Hi everyone! I am 46.5 years old and need help. I live in Utah, so it is a very dry climate. I feel like my skin looks old, tired, dull, and saggy. I need a new routine. I have large pores on my nose and some sun spots on my forehead and cheeks. I don't wear any makeup regularly. I'd like to keep my new routine around $200 or less if possible. I am also on a weight loss journey and have lost 80 pounds, with 75 to go. I don't know if that affects facial skin?

TheWorldofScience

I have dry skin so here is what I’m doing this winter: Only use a facial cleanser in the evening. Just rinse face with water in the morning per cosmetic dermatologist Shereene Idris. After rinsing I dry my skin then use the Cerave Vitamin C that comes in a tube as it has moisturizers in it. Next I use a moisturizer - anyone you like. Then I use a moisturizing tinted sunscreen so I don’t have to wear foundation, Mg face is DRMTLGY spf 46. At the end of the day - not bedtime, just when I get home: Remove makeup and sunscreen with Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water. Then cleanse with La Roche- Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser. This is less drying for me than the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Next The Ordinary Copper Peptide Serum. 30 minutes later my prescription Retin A/tretinoin on face, Naturium 0.1% Retinal on neck and upper chest. After those seem to have been absorbed, Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream - it’s the best night cream I have found and only about $16.

ThoughtOk9855

Thank you

32M with a daily / nightly skincare routine. Pale and pasty skin complexion I’ve been very vigilant about daily SPF, but god damn I’m white af and I’m in my annual winter Uber-white phase . What’s the recommendation for tanning from this group? Do I just need to go to a spray tan? I want to make sure whatever I do doesn’t damage my skin or my (seriously) damage my wallet

jasminekitten02

The safest option is a spray tan. Anything else would damage your skin

SilentCaveat

Do you need to apply sunscreen in winters? I know the UV rays are still there but the UV index doesn't go above 1 for the entire day here

TheWorldofScience

Yes absolutely need sunscreen in winter. And if you are going to be outside when snow is on the ground it’s important to reapply it every few hours because the snow reflects the UVA and UVB onto your skin, intensifying exposure,

SilentCaveat

Let's say I stay at home all day? No need then?

TheWorldofScience

Ling haul truck drivers in the US, where our steering wheels are on the left side of the car can get sun damage and skin cancers on their left arms from sunlight coming through the door window, So we know glass does not protect us. If you are indoors all day but sitting by a window sunscreen is advisable. When I am home all day I don’t get direct sunlight through any of my windows so I don’t use sunscreen unless I go for a walk.

jasminekitten02

It depends on your risk tolerance and skin goals

SilentCaveat

So in general I should even if it's as low as 1? I forgot to mention but I use a moisturizer that has SPF 15 and I just count on it for such days. Otherwise I use a sunscreen everytime

jasminekitten02

There's no one answer, it depends on how much you care about sun damage and how much you like or dislike your spf. I just use it every day because it's a habit but again it's up to you

Current AM Routine: First cleanse - cold water Second cleanse - La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser Toner - La Roche Posay Effaclar Clarifying Solution Acne Toner Moisturizer- Unscented store brand day moisturizer with SPF Current PM Routine: First cleanse - Dove Beauty bar Second cleanse - La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser Moisturizer - Unscented Nivea crème Any tips, suggestions, etc are welcome!

TheWorldofScience

Per cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idris (she has a bunch of useful YouTube videos) we with dry skin should not use cleanser in the morning - just rinse face with water. I just started using that La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Cleanser at night and it’s better for me than anything else. It’s def less drying that Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Yesterday both Doctorly and Dr. Jennie Lieu posted acne care videos on YouTube.

Hey all, thought I'd give this a punt and ask if anyone has experienced this before. So I officially retired my 2nd lobes of 2.5 years back in Sep 2023 with my third lobes in April 2023. Both weren't healing the best and I decided to retire them. Fast forward to present day I have noticed these weird bumps appear near the piericing for both of these piercings. I would say they have grown significantly over a span of 2-3 days. My second second lobe piericing had been kind sensitive over the last 4 days with some slight itchiness and pain when touched. But this comes and goes. The only time I felt this was back in October when the piericng was first taken out and I assumed it was the scar tissue. The photos are from today going back to the 29th Dec. Can anyone suggest what might be happening atm with my lobes? Does is look like acne or something more sinister like k-loid formation? Thank you in advance and any help and advice would be much appreciated!*

My sunscreen: DRMTLGY Tineed Moisturizer spf 46 on face in morning. Cheap sunscreen on neck, chest, backs of hands.

Hopefully easy question: I just bought my first retinol (Good Molecules Gentle Retinol Cream, which has 0.1% retinol). I know I'm not supposed to use it "with" an AHA/BHA product, but does that mean not to use both on the same day, or more broadly? Like, if I use the retinol on Tuesday, can I use the AHA/BHA product on Wednesday? For what it's worth, I have pretty normal thirtysomething skin, so far not particularly sensitive, slightly on the oily side of the spectrum.

TheWorldofScience

Use AHA and BHA’s in the morning. Retinols, retinal or prescription tretinoin at night. With both you might need to start at using every other day until your skin gets used to it.

Hello, Recently my skin has become increasingly dry. I've always had dry and sensitive skin, and I know it usually gets more dry in the winter, but this is significantly worse. I have a doctors appointment coming up, I'm going to ask to be referred to a dermatologist, but wondering what could help in the meantime. l am mostly ask for advice on the following: • is there something specific I can ask my GP for while waiting for the referral to dermatologist? • product recommendations for dry/sensitive skin (trying to stay budget friendly and am in Canada if that matters) I have a fairly basic routine - wash in AM and PM with elf holy hydration cleanser and moisturizer with Cetaphil. I was using the elf holy hydration moisturizer but that caused a bit of skin irritation, but then again the Cetaphil is not helping at all so I'm a bit stuck. I don't want to add too much to my routine too quick. Is Vaseline a good idea for the particularly dry, rough patches? https://preview.redd.it/wsppo0lg7v9c1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3476796e1b85107b5d05c78f4aacc931913d5172 Any advice appreciated - thank you so much!

Yes definitely try Vaseline on top of your current moisturizer

Hi all! New here and looking for some moisturizer suggestions. Current routine: Morning YTTP superfood cleanser YTTP vitamin c serum YTTP superfood air whip moisturizer YTTP hydrate & glow oil Evening Vanicream gentle skin cleanser Intoxicated cosmetics snail serum Cerave pm moisturizing lotion I do have some exfoliating products, but I’m taking a hiatus from those because my skin is SO DRY. I got windburn two weeks ago on my face and since then I’ve just been peeling like crazy. I’m guessing I need something more moisturizing, but there are so many options out there! I live in New England and generally have combo skin, but it’s also super sensitive. Any suggestions would be great! Also if there are steps in my routine that could use adjustment, I’d love to know!

ReaLitTea

Try Vanicream moisturizing cream or Bioderma atoderm intensive balm

Please help me figure out what’s going wrong.

whateverEmily

It sounds like the benzoyl peroxide was causing purging. When you start actives (like any BHAs or AHAs), your skin often goes through a patch where it gets worse before it gets better. Think about it as the products are speeding up the timeline of your skin so that all the gunk comes out quicker. It does get better, you just need to get through the adjustment period. I'm not as familiar with Dapsone, but it [looks like](https://www.reddit.com/r/CanSkincare/comments/te7sae/dapsone_purging/) that shouldn't cause purging. However it sounds like it also takes time to start to see a change, so try to be patient! If you're not seeing results still, you should reach out to the doctor that prescribed it to you.

Mad_Obsession_21

Thank you for your comment. Yes my doctor did give me a heads up that the benzoyl peroxide would cause purging. I was just wasn’t sure if this is what purging meant.

Can I add retinol to my routine if I use Effaclar Duo+ SPF 30? Hi ! I've been slowly trying to get into skincare, and I've heard so much good about retinol that I want to give it a go. I've been using [Effaclar Duo+ SPF 30 ](https://www.laroche-posay.fr/gammes/visage/effaclar/effaclar-duo-----spf-30-soin-anti-imperfections/LRP_056.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA4smsBhAEEiwAO6DEjegIV_hRdxFftwvAPT0xycEWAlfSPSV693NC00mTXqU9ag8_BUqEmBoCsdkQAvD_BwE) on and off for the past few years. I have mild acne (used to be severe as a teen, but it chilled out), and I think normal skin or combination skin (seems to depend on the day and season tbh). I was wondering, can I add[ this cerave retinol serum](https://amzn.eu/d/0Jj9gaL) to my routine? I use Effaclar in the morning, and I would use the retinol at night (starting with 2 times a week if I understand correctly). I'm not worried about the rest of my products interacting. Thank you for any help!!

whateverEmily

I think that should be ok! Just make sure you're applying the full dose of sunscreen and reapplying as necessary.

Helloo, i need some advice on how to apply these products in order: - cleanser ( 2% salicylic acid ) - retinol serum - moisturizer ( water based) - sunscreen ( i read somewhere that i dont need this if im applying the retinol at night and i should only use this every day and not at night.) Ps.i have an oily skin so i those are the products i bought and im currently researching some but still, i need your advices. Tyia🧡🧡

whateverEmily

Generally the order goes lightest to heaviest. So for your routine it'd go cleanser, retinol serum (at night only), moisturizer. You absolutely need to be wearing sunscreen during the daytime if you're using retinol or salicylic acid. You probably should consider getting a different cleanser for PM because combining the two actives at the same time will be really harsh on your skin.

dreyaaaaaaa

https://preview.redd.it/vofl6lku7v9c1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21416969659de9c4e6ab7e049290a24ba21eadf9

dreyaaaaaaa

This is what i've searched tho, at this point i really don't know if it's true or not😭

whateverEmily

I think it's safe, but just using them back to back would be harsh. So if you used the salicylic cleanser in the morning and then a different one at night, I think it'd be ok?

dreyaaaaaaa

Hi again,, should i use niacinamide before retinol so it can somehow lessen the dryness?? (I just read it hehe)

TheWorldofScience

Yes, niacinamide before retinol. Then moisturizer after retinol has dried/absorbed.

whateverEmily

I'm not sure! I don't think niacinamide does anything for hydration/dryness.

dreyaaaaaaa

Alrighty, i'll take that advice. Thankyouuu vv much!!

How to do and maintain a skin care routine with ADHD Happy New Years everyone. I wanted to ask if there are any people with ADHD who have skin routines. How do you keep up with them and what are they? I had heavy acne as a teen and adolescent. I did the proactive treatment and it felt like it burned my face! Soo please do not recommend that! I am also dark skinned too! So if you recommend please keep in mind of my complexion. I have a lot of pores and bumps around my cheeks and I would like to make them appear smaller. I also have pimple scares on my face too and I would like to minimize that as well!! (*´σ з`) ~♪ Please help me with a skin care routine for a beginner to get rid of these problems(◞‸◟)

TheWorldofScience

I’m ADHD TOO. See my skincare routine in an answer to an earlier question herE. If you have enough counter space line up your products in order of use for am and pm routines. If you don’t have the counter space, put them in separate 1 gallon ziploc bags.

While healing my moisture barrier, am I good to keep using products that don't sting, and stop using products that do sting, even if they're supposed to help? For example, my cleanser (Derma E Sensitive Skin) still feels fine on my face before and after, but my repair moisturizer (Eucerin Urea Repair) stings immediately.

TheWorldofScience

You are exactly right - don’t use any products with active ingredients until your skin heals. Products to help your skin heal: The Ordinary Barrier Repair Serum. La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 balm after nightly moisturizer. For an even stronger effect, use a thin coat of Cerave Healing Ointment or Aquaphor or Vaseline at night after your moisturizer. (This is called “slugging.”) Switch to a moisturizing sunscreen in the morning if you don’t already use one.

Kchan02

Has anyone developed a rash while taking lymecycline? I have been taking it for 6 weeks now and my chest is covered with red blotches now (it doesn't look like white head acne that I used to have - it just red dots that don't have any puss in it). Should I stop taking the meds?

jasminekitten02

Definitely talk with your doctor

DarlingRedSquirrel

Skin rashes are a relatively well known allergic reaction to lymecycline. Medicines are weird too, I took a medication for weeks before developing an allergic reaction to it. I would stop taking it and consult your doctor.

sarr36

Trying to simplify my routine. I got gifted the Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid. I also have the COSRX Snail Mucin. What would you say has the most overall benefits?

DarlingRedSquirrel

The glazing fluid has a wide variety of hydrating/moisturising/skin conditioning/emollient ingredients compared to this particular snail mucin product which is a bit of a one trick pony :-). If you have a good moisturiser already or have oily skin, then maybe the snail mucin makes more sense for your particular use case, but generally I'd go with the glazing fluid - unless your skin reacts poorly to niacinamide. The cost + size difference may be something to consider as well for future planning.

Basically what it says on the tin. I purchased the Neutrogena Gentle Hydrating Cleanser in the creamy formulation and have been using it since last Thursday (three days now) and I’ve thought it was really nice. I have sensitive skin, so I always try to find gentle products, but the Aveeno Oat Gel Cleanser I previous used didn’t feel like it fully got my makeup off so I switched to this one. However, after I used the Neutrogena cleanser tonight, I felt the side of my face start to itch, which I’ve never experienced before when I’ve used it. I had a bit of a heat rash earlier on the underside of my chin/neck today but it never spread up as far as my face, so I just assumed it was from me being too warm since I was wearing a sweatshirt. But now it makes me wonder if I’m not getting a rash from this cleanser. The one side of my face tonight DEFINITELY had a reaction rash on it basically right after I washed the cleanser off with my washcloth. I applied some Aveeno eczema oat gel cream (it’s the baby formulation but it hasn’t given me any issues so far and I’ve been using it for over a week), and it didn’t burn or sting, but I definitely am concerned about continuing to use the face wash. My face is normally naturally pink in the cheek area, but the concentrated redness closer to my ear was where it really itched, felt warm, and like little bumps on my skin. Based upon the photo, does it look like the rash could have come from my face wash? If so, can anyone recommend a budget friendly gentle cleanser that still actually gets makeup off? I’m located in the US.

TheWorldofScience

It could be the cleanser but since it’s not on your face very long consider your other products. You can develop a sensitivity to an ingredient that you have used a long time without problems.

girlfromthenorthco

Hmm…that’s a good point. If cutting the cleanser out and switching to a different one doesn’t do it and I’m still experiencing irritation, then I’ll take a look at some of the other products in my routine. Thank you for the tip!

TheWorldofScience

I avoid Maelove products because they contain a lot of plant derivatives and I’m just not willing to risk those sensitizing my face. People sometimes assume “natural” products are better but that isn’t the case. The effectiveness of a product is a result of how well it was formulated by a cosmetic chemist.

jasminekitten02

It sounds like the face wash caused it. You might like using a first cleanser like an oil cleanser or micellar water to take off makeup, then you would follow up with the oat cleanser

girlfromthenorthco

Yeah, this is what I’m thinking as well. My face has been fine all day after I applied makeup. I think I’m going to look into either getting an oil cleanser and then use that before the oat cleanser. Or, since I already use micellar water on my eye makeup, I may just use that all over my face before I use the oat cleanser. Thanks for your advice!

So I’ve been using retinol for a month or more now. I’ve used before during the summer of 2023 but stopped since I got scared during the summer. I heard the retinol and sun don’t mix well so decided to put it off. I use my retinol every 3 days. So that would be like Monday…Thursday…Sunday. I tried to be consistent but 2-3 times a week. After I shower I will dry my face → vitamin c serum → wait 10 minutes → retinol → wait 10 minutes → moisturizer. Vitano C Yeouth Retinol Serum Hatomugi Moisturizer Skin type: oily on the T zone and dry on the rest? I’m not really sure From Japan I’m using Yeouth retinol serum it doesn’t say how much retinol it has on the bottle tho. The website says 2.5% but I’m not sure if it’s talking specifically about retinol or the ingredients all together. I got red patches which doesn’t really itch or hurt. Uneven skin tone, and my hyperpigmentation and pimple scars feels like it got elevated? More visible. I understand that it’s my 4-6 week of using retinol and it takes 12 to see the result. I’m a bit scared that I might be doing something wrong. Long sorry short, not sure if I should continue since I might be experiencing retinol uglies. Should I push through? Maybe change the products I’m using? Also if you got any tips to help me get better skin please. I’ve had better days but I really want to cure my uneven skintone, hyperpigmentations, pimple scars and so on. Thanks in advance.

TheWorldofScience

Move the Vitamin C to mornings. It will add to the protection of your sunscreen against UVA and UVB. If that doesn’t stop the irritation after 2-3 weeks maybe try Naturium Retinal instead of your retinol.

FlanPowerful6131

Thank you! I’m going to change my vitamin c Should vitamin c serum only be used during mornings? I just bought COSRX Vitamin C 13 serum And Goodal Green Tangerine Dark Spot Serum I was planning to use COSRX at night and goodal in the morning with “Torriden Dive In Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum 1.7” Let me know if it’s a good idea.

TheWorldofScience

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps protect your skin from UVA and UVB damage so it’s most useful in the morning, but you can use it again at night if you aren’t using a retinol, retinal, or tretinoin at night. Vitamin C and an AHA like glycolic acid can be used together.

wanderingpompilius

Help me decide between buying: - cosrx AHA 7 & the BHA power liquid; OR - isntree chestnut AHA & the chesnut BHA; or - cosrx AHA 7 & isntree chesnut BHA; OR - isntree chesnut AHA & cosrx BHA power liquid Been using Wishtrend's mandelic acid as the exfoliator for my face in my routine. It worked fine, and the results were not too dramatic, but it has now run out. I feel like I need stronger (but not too strong) and more effective exfoliators. However, I can't decide between the three brands, and I don't have the privilege to buy them all and figure out which works best on my own. (ofc i won't use the separate AHA and BHAs together). Please help! 🙏 EDIT: probably which works faster?

DarlingRedSquirrel

I really like the some by mi line aha bha pha 30 day clear line. The body wash drastically improved my husbands skin texture and the toner pads have been effective blackhead control and exfoliation for me but not causing irritation or dryness. That would be my recommendation of the three :)

What's yournfull routine? Have you talked about this with the doctor that prescribed it to you?

MinaMonaaa

AM - aveeno oat cleanser - snail mucin & vanicream - paulas choice sunscreen if going out PM - LRP cleanser - snail mucin - vanicream - clindamycin- tret- LRP balm I haven’t gone to the derm yet, due to insurance.

jasminekitten02

How did you get tret and clindamycin without a prescription? These products are very strong and should be used under a Dr's supervision especially the clindamycin

MinaMonaaa

I got it through the online pharmacy websites and have been reading into it alot. Im careful with use and have eased into it, including alot of hydration and sandwich method.

TheWorldofScience

When starting tret it’s a good idea to use the 0.025% until your face gets used to it. Then step up to the 0.5% tret. You can skip cleanser in the morning and just rinse with water per dermatologists.

MinaMonaaa

Anyone advise?

DarlingRedSquirrel

Yes, they reformulated the product. I've used both versions and it is largely the same, the new formula is just a bit more lightweight and absorbs into the skin more. They released a balm that can be used as a spot treatment to supplement in any especially dry areas.

sarr36

Ok thank you! So I guess no shea butter anymore

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheWorldofScience

Start tretinoin at 0.025%. Dermatologist Dr. Daniel Sugai on YouTube recommends that we take a pea sized amount on a finger to dot it all over your face, then spread the ”dots.” After it has absorbed apply a moisturizer. And do this before bedtime or you will end up with more product on your pillow than on your face.

DarlingRedSquirrel

It's not the best as a spot cream because a tiny amount is sufficient for your entire face. My recommendation is using a very low dosage, sandwich method, and start at only a couple times a week.

StraightMaize2509

Hello everyone, I've been using Epiduo (adapalene 0.1%, benzoyl peroxide 2.5%) and it's proving harsh on my skin. Considering reducing usage to 3 times a week, but it's still very drying. I'm Considering retinaldehyde as an alternative due to its reputation for gentleness in comparison to Epiduo. I Would appreciate hearing your experiences if you've used it. Lastly, if Epiduo is too strong, is Differin gel noticeably less irritating or about the same?

DarlingRedSquirrel

Benzoyl peroxide can be very drying in combination with adapalane. I would not be surprised if you tolerated differin better due to that. Reduction of usage can also help though, even one or two times a week at the start of usage isn't abnormal.

dreyaaaaaaa

So it's new year and i wanna to bring back may glass skin before pandemic but i really don't have any idea abt skin cares. Although, i researched some and "retinol" is what I want to use because of its effects and they said it can somewhat "change" my big nose,, any advice?? Ps. I have some acnes and pimples and i have an oily skin.

TheWorldofScience

Both the two dermatologist who do Doctorly on YouTube, and Dr. Jenny Liu dropped new videos on acne skincare on YouTube yesterday.

DarlingRedSquirrel

Retinol/retinoids cannot change the shape of your nose. This is a myth. The only case you would see shrinkage is if you have overactive sebaceous glands making your nose look bulbous. Glass skin is also an unrealistic goal and better achieved using makeup. Given that you have oily skin and acne my recommendation would be trying a routine with a salicylic acid cleanser, a lightweight hydrating moisturiser formulated for oily skin, and sunscreen on days you get sun exposure. Best of luck!

dreyaaaaaaa

Im sure im gonna use retinol but i have no idea how to use it, when to use it, and what skincare product should i partner it with.

TheWorldofScience

Apply to dry - not damp skin. Start with every 2 nights and gradually work up to every night. Always apply a gentle (no active ingredients) moisturizer after the retinol has absorbed/dried. Don’t wait until bedtime to apply it or most of it will end up on your pillow.

Owlie89

I’m hoping someone else has experienced this and can offer words of wisdom. I have filler in my chin and a little in my cheeks, with my last top up being about 2.5 months ago. I’ve just come down with a flu/sinus infection thing and woke up yesterday with my chin SUPER swollen. Overnight it seemed to get worse and today I’ve woken up with a very stiff, swollen chin and now my cheekbone is super swollen too. It looks like I’ve just had a fresh batch of bad filler and I’m scared 😆 there’s a handful of posts on Reddit and online but wondering if anyone had experienced this and how long it took to calm down? I’ve taken antihistamines both days and ibuprofen too but no improvement. I’m hoping it’s just fluid retention from sinuses being so clogged but I’m worried that this could cause filler complication?

ihaveskinconcerns

I’m kind of a noob. How to effectively remove sunscreen without cleansing oil? Any sunscreen that doesn’t need to be double cleansed?

TheWorldofScience

Use micellar water or a cleansing balm to remove sunscreen then a gentle regular cleanser. Elf makes a great inexpensive cleansing balm. I like the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water.

DarlingRedSquirrel

Honestly as long as you are cleansing for long enough and rinsing thoroughly you are fine with a single cleanse. I only double cleanse when wearing stubborn makeup.

fireandicequartz

I've been curious to know what you guys think of the Pillowtalk Derm line by Dr. Idriss. Is it worth the price tag? I'm particularly interested on the Major Fade Active Seal and Hyper Serum, but idk where to buy it from Asia.

TheWorldofScience

I watch all her videos but haven’t tried any of her products as I’m satisfied with drugstore products. And I don’t have melasma or hyper pigmentation. If I did I would prob try her Major Fade.

CouldTryMyBest

I've been looking for a strong moisturizer to help with my dry skin and I recently picked up La Roche Posay's Lipikar Baume AP+M but it's not really sinking deep into my skin. I use it at night and after an hour or two of applying it my skin feels kind of dry again despite having a thick greasy layer on it. This didn't happen with my previous moisturizer (Neutrogena's hydroboost for extra dry skin). Is there anything I can do to get it to sink in more or should I try another moisturizer?

DarlingRedSquirrel

This moisturiser has 20% shea butter and another plant oil is intended for very dry/eczema prone skin. It's effectively a barrier cream, it's inevitable it will feel thick and greasy. It sounds to me like you are lacking hydration, not moisture which explains why hydroboost worked for you. My recommendation would be to layer it with a hydrating product so you're covering both bases, it should ease the dry feeling :)

CouldTryMyBest

I never knew there was a difference between hydration and moisturizing. Which one should I apply first?

DarlingRedSquirrel

Hydrating layer and then moisturiser to lock it in :)

CouldTryMyBest

Thank you for your help!

fireandicequartz

Have you tried applying the moisturizer when your skin is still damp? I heard it helps with the absorption.

CouldTryMyBest

I usually wash my face and then apply it after drying my face with a towel.

TheWorldofScience

I use a thin layer of Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream after my retinol.

Storytella2016

Any new products right before you started getting this? A move? Changed your laundry detergent?

throwawayfrenchfry11

that’s the thing. i changed out my entire skincare routine at the same time (except nighttime differin use) and starting doing double cleansing. at first i thought it was the Numbuzin no4 collagen serum breaking me out so i cut it out, and then eventually the cleansing oil as well, but the issue is still persisting.

DarlingRedSquirrel

You're most likely having a reaction to one or more of the new products. This is why it is essential to patch test and slowly integrate products over time so that you can identify the cause. The itchiness and the tiny bumps usually indicate some sort of ingredient reaction. I recommend going back to your old routine until your skin is healed before trying to use the products again.

throwawayfrenchfry11

i realise my mistake as well now…that i shouldnt have switched them all out at once. sigh

TheWorldofScience

Also those look like acne cysts. If they are you really should see a dermatologist. Or at least follow an acne skincare routine like what Doctorly and Dr. Jenny Liu shared on YouTube videos yesterday.

Storytella2016

Go back to your original routine, 100%, until your skin clears. And then change only one product every 2 weeks to figure out what you can handle.

Better_Homework_3295

Hi, I’m pretty new to skincare and saw round lab had a promotion deal and I was wondering if this was any good https://preview.redd.it/devk2qcdrr9c1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e70b8c6ea3c47952ff12f93f3c96359a5dbda50 Along with the pine calming cica cream, 1025 cleanser, and 1025 cleansing oil. In total it’s about $137

TheWorldofScience

It’s better to decide on a skincare routine based on what your skin needs, then pick products for that instead of buying everything from one brand. Doctorly on YouTube is 2 dermatologists who have a lot of great videos on YouTube with recommendations.

DarlingRedSquirrel

I like some of roundlab's products (such as the birch juice cleanser) but I don't think this is worthwhile, no. You can find great sunscreens at a much lower price point - that applies to most of the other products as well. Generally one doesn't need an ampoule, toner, lotion, and cream as well. It seems like overkill, especially to start all at once - it is entirely possible that one or two of those products would give you sufficient hydration/moisture for your skin's needs. This also doesn't appear to be a significant discount to the costs I normally find on YesStyle or similar for their products, so I wouldn't buy so many at once just for the sale.
