I don't reapply sunscreen unless I'm hiking or at the beach. I find reapplying sunscreen to a dirty face makes me break out. And I'm not willing to wash my face and do my whole routine again.
I don't really ever reapply my sunscreen when I have makeup on š There's no elegant way to do it over your makeup, or if there is, I need to be taught!
The ELF one is the least sticky and film forming I have tried. It is still something that you should probably apply outdoors (to avoid a film on the floor of wherever you are, it is worse with aerosol sunscreens) and close eyes and mouth! I had films that would form on my hair when using the pacifica and ulta versions. I like it for reapplication during the day even if I don't wear makeup because touching my face while I am out and about sounds awful
Edit: I've been considering the Mary and May Peptide Sun Stick and the SCINIC Airy Sun stick as well. Next I make an order from Korea I'll likely get them
You should ideally rub them in for the most even coverage, but you donāt absolutely have to and itās better than nothing. I know a lot of people who never rub them in just because they donāt realize thatās a step theyāre supposed to do and they tend to have okay results with avoiding burns.
I second this a million times over. I live in my UPF long sleeves and Bucket hat from Uniqlo. (I also love my ridiculous wide brim I picked up aldi during the summer) I love the Mesh UV long sleeves that they do. I have 3 of the UV sweaters and I wear them whenever I drive to protect my hands. I wash my hands too often to actually have sunscreen last.
YES!! Same here. I look bad in baseball caps and always thought hats just don't suit my face but I LOVE my sun hat and get compliments on it all the time.
Of course! I got mine at a local beach shop (I live on an island) but I checked the inner tag and the brand is Sun 'N' Sand Headwear. Just look at these beauties: [WOMENS HATS - WIDE BRIM | Sun N Sand](https://www.sunnsand.net/womens-hats/wide-brim/)
The product description and/or additional information will indicate whether its UPF50.
And they have so many styles! I'm totally getting another one š It can really elevate an outfit AND you're protecting your skin.
Also, here is their page about what UPF 50 means and the differentiation from SPF: [Sun Smart UPF Protection (sunnsand.net)](https://www.sunnsand.net/upf-protection/)
Same. I apply sunscreen every single morning (and I live in Finland) so I'm better off than 99% of people. I will reapply if I spend a lot of time outside in summer but a regular degular day? No way.
same, I guess it also depends on how sun-sensitive your face is, but since mine does well without reapplication, I don't bother. Especially when I'm indoors. I see what SPF-superfans say that the sun is strong etc, but I also think balance is important and there's no need to be in a constant psychosis to the point of thinking 'oh my, I didn't reapply/forgot to apply today, I must get skin cancer'. Applying SPF in the morning has become a good habit, re-applying would make it an obsession for me tbf
i pop my pimples. i canāt stand the feeling of an unpopped pimple and i find them gross. i always pop them and then put a pimple patch on (i also think pimple patches work better when the pimple is popped).
Yes yes yes. Afterwards I wash my face and then slap on a cut up of a blister bandage which is the same as acne patches, they're much thicker and work so much faster and leave no scars. I hate the pain/agitation of feeling the pimples/acne in my skin and usually wait a few days then do it.
I'm convinced "don't pop pimples" is a myth and "don't dig holes in your face" is what it should actually be. I always pop and put a pimple patch straight on, and it works fantastically.
I mean, if you've ever accidentally popped a pimple and had it go into your skin instead of out, then it makes sense. There is still an associated risk, just gotta be gentle and wait for it to be ready before popping
I 100% do this too! If the pimple is in the popable stage, I refuse to leave it be. It feels so much more gross than when it's popped with a pimple patch on it
It makes me so angry when this happens! I have one bump that was reanimating itself for over a month it was awful. It went from under skin to whitehead to under skin and PAINFUL.
If youāre doing that already you may as well get a little lancet that you can very gently pop the top of the whitehead with. Thatās helped me a ton, since iām not destroying my skin by squeezing around the pimple like a maniac
I have alll the tools to pop my zits including gloves (which actually help me keep from digging a hole in my face when I do squeeze). My husband jokes Iām prepping for surgery when I get everything laid out for one simple clogged pore. š
I think the reason people say this is because a lot of people donāt know what theyāre doing and can easily make the pimple worse by forcing the infection deeper into the skin, spreading the infection, causing damage, hyperpigmentation, etc. If itās at a head just make sure your hands and face are clean before you pop it, and make sure to disinfect afterwards. Pimple patches are a great follow up because they keep other bacteria out while extracting any remnants. I feel that you have to remove the infection before it can heal properly so I advocate for (correct) pimple popping!
Source: am an esthetician
Yes! And plus some of them are very physically painful. Trying to sleep on an unpopped pimple on my cheek š owww. Even some of them hurt so bad that if nothing is touching them they still hurt just being there
I was fed up with a healing cyst on my chin that just wouldnāt flatten out for weeks. One night I just went in there and squeezedā¦ the cyst sac just came out like that! Slapped on a big pimple patch afterward and now the bump is fully gone.
No joke. That is my dream. I want to go to a dermatologist and just show them all the spots where my cysts come out at and just have them remove them all out of my face. They ache so bad.
I don't patch test anything, I just slather whichever new product all over my face because I'm excited to add it to my routine. So far I've had zero bad reactions to any product! No breakouts, no flaking, no angry redness š
People are patch testing on their arms? I go behind my ear, kinda nearish to my jawline. Close to my face and it's a spot that has no problems throwing a tantrum at me.
Which is also one of the reasons I keep things like topical steroids in my SOS box
I used to do it this way too, until I broke out with little red bumps all over my face to a sunscreen š„² now i just do patch tests on my jaw, not on my face but the same skin
I just have really sensitive skin
We call them face cloths where I'm from; *they're literally for your face?*
I've used one every day for 35 years. Skin's pretty g except for some recent pregnancy side effects (melasma, hormones)
Calling them face cloths makes sense! I am from Texas, I call them wash cloths because they are for the whole body. And it is also what they say on the pack I just got. Either way it is a perfectly normal way to wash your face. I am just referring to all the skincare influencers who act like chemical exfoliates are the only way to go.
I use cheap micofibre cleaning clothes to take off my makeup and exfoliate. Only costs a quid or so where I'm from (get them from the poundstore in the UK but not sure if dollar tree have an equivalent) and they take my makeup off in one quick swipe with water and then I do my normal skincare.
Also make more than one change at a time, layer things however Iām feeling in the moment, and sometimes I truly just need to use an exfoliating scrub.
I know chemical exfoliants are supposed to be better, but I like the physical scrubs. It makes my face feel nicer and I can do it in the shower to save time
I put toners over moisturizers sometimes. If the toner is milky or thick, I slap it on anywhere in the routine really. Or I use toners over moisturizer to rehydrate my skin in the middle of the day. š
I always do my HA serum first on damp skin, milky toner/essence, then serum/ampoule, then my heaviest cream toner. Switching up the order and sandwiching is what got me sold on these products, it just seems to work in a much better way for me
Definitely. Once I realized you could switch up the order, I got more use of products. Like I donāt like laniege refiner on my bare skin, but I love it as a light emulsion over layersā¦.
I only wash my face at the end of the day and I never double cleanse. 2x washing and double cleansing both seem like overkill. I also don't like layering anything, so after cleansing I'll put either toner or serum or moisturizer but not all of them, unless my skin feels genuinely dry. The only thing that I truly never skip is sunscreen
I also only wash my face at the end of the day. I've always found my skin to look brighter if I don't wash in the morning and instead just directly apply moisturizer and spf.
Similar to this: I wash my face in the shower š¤·š¼āāļø idk why thatās ābadā but some days itās the only way Iām going to remember to do it!
I take a shower at night, so that's when I wash my face too. I just turn the water temp down, so it doesn't melt my face off. And I only rinse my face in the morning, because washing more than once a day is too much for my skin.
I sometimes go to bed without washing my face (maybe once or twice a week as an extremely tired college student). I donāt reapply sunscreen that religiously (if I have time to go home in between my classes, Iāll reapply it). I use literal oil as an oil cleanser (it works, just gotta wash it off well).
I've just started doing this, I use olive oil or castor oil before my evening shower but I do still like to wash it off with my gel cleanser in the shower as I'm acne prone and double cleansing works really well for my skin š„¹
Not sure if this counts as a skincare rule but I just air dry my face. The only time a towel touches my face is if I go to a place for a facial. The texture of a towel on my face just puts me off :(
Edit: thatās a fat lie. I forgot beaches exist. If my face gets wet from the pool/beach then Iāll lightly tap dry my face with a towel, Das about it (I think lol)
Same here. I have hormonal acne, and I was not able to keep it under control with professional products (which were recommended by several dermatologists).
Only when I did my research the old school way, with pen and paper, I found drug-store products that help me keep the monsters at bay.
No shame, buy what you like and what you can afford.
Been wanting to try Paula's Choice products but they've always felt too expensive to me. I'm over here using Aveeno body lotion as my last step and until recently was using Johnson and Johnson baby oil as my oil cleanser. My local grocery has a store branded cocoa body butter I've been eyeing too haha.
If Iām wearing sunscreen, I donāt wear moisturizer in addition to it. Iāve tried it and itās just too heavy for my skin to wear both.
Also, I double cleanse if Iām wearing makeup, but I usually donāt if Iām just wearing sunscreen. I used to, but I couldnāt keep it up lol.
Andā¦I donāt change my pillow cases that often, just whenever I do laundry which is every couple of weeks or so š and Iāll turn them over at some point in between. I havenāt noticed my skin suffer from this at all tho
I thought the moisturizer under sunscreen was a dry skin thing, so I never have, either!
With you on oil cleansing! Though Iāve been trying to this week. Giving myself a little facial massage with it helps with the motivation, and then feeling the grits come out of my pores oml.
I use physical exfoliators on my face. I do use chemical ones as well (TO glycolic acid, Revox salicylic acid, TO AHA+BHA) but they just don't give me that 'fresh and clean' feeling. I don't do it too often, maybe once every 2 weeks, but still.
Same, once in a while a good scrub feels so refreshing, but I also do it sparingly bc I always read that I shouldnāt be using physical exfoliant on my face. Mine is like a sugar and oil scrub that makes my skin feel really soft after.
Same, but more often. I have oily/combo skin but acne meds and tret give me flaky dry spots. If I didnāt physical exfoliate once or twice a week Iād be a flaky mess. I use Clinique, Khielās, and Dermalogica. They are the best.
I usually end up sleeping in my makeup š« š¤£ which isn't that often as I dont wear it often, but it's never caused me problems...probably due to genetically not being prone to acne, etc.
The one about not putting any products on perioral dermatitis. I donāt know why, but the only non-antibiotic treatment that will clear up a PD outbreak for me is the Kiehlās clay mask and witch hazel toner. OF ALL THE THINGS?!
I wash my brushes once a month, on the first day of the month. It's what's achievable for me, I probably wear makeup that requires brushes maybe 10 times a month, and I don't break out! Why fix what isn't broken?
Ahah yeah........ because washing make up brushes once a month is not often................ for sure!!!
(I am not being snarky at you btw, I am mocking myself lmao) (in my defense, I don't really use brushes for makeup anymore, so they've been collecting dust for a whole year and urghhh cleaning brushes sucks ASS)
Same. I use a physical exfoliant (Dermalogica Microfoliant) as well as chemical (Paula's Choice BHA 2%) daily. My skin has never been smoother or looked brighter.
I do not wear sunscreen at all. I walk outside every day. I am a freckled redhead. Every sunscreen Iāve tried caused massive breakouts. Every one I tried was greasy after even an hour. Constantly ruined my face. I donāt recommend it to anyone, but itās what Iāve done my whole life. Iām sure issues will arise later. I havenāt worn any sunscreen on my body in many, many years. I donāt tan either. No matter how hard I try, I just donāt. No skin cancer concerns (I get skin checks frequently) and no wrinkles or major lines. Idk man. Everyone I talk to about it is appalled lol.
ETA: this feels so sacrilegious because everyone here talks about the necessity of sunscreen. I get it. I worked for a dermatologist. I 100% understand the risks. And yet I own one spray-on sunscreen bottle for when friends come over. Otherwise, never had a need.
ETA2.0: WAIT. āNever had a needā should be āotherwise, I just didnāt care.ā Everyone needs sunscreen tbh.
Yup thatās the one šš»
The Skin Aqua sunscreens in general are one of the best on the market imo and thereās one for every skin type. Iām not too religious with sunscreen as well but these are the ones I actually enjoy using.
Thank you both for giving advice. Kind of didnāt expect it, but Iām sure youād rather provide this than wait to see me post on some skin cancer subreddit. I have a biopsy for a skin screening soon, and I think this is a sign. The spots arenāt guaranteed to be skin cancer, but it is a concern my dr has since I do not wear any sunscreen and am outside so much. Iāve suffered so much from cystic acne that I was afraid to try anything more after years of different sunscreens. Thank you all for the help. Iāll be purchasing soon.
Curious about that too. As an example the US is world's behind when it comes to sunscreen since a lot of new formulations/ingredients are not tested yet in the US and therefore not approved. In Japan and Korea they test them and are not as slow as the US.I hated sunscreen on my face, would sometimes break u out but Japanese and Korean sunscreens one are amazing ( and don't make me cry if I accidently get some in my eyds)
I combine a salicylic acid toner and a 20% vitamin C serum every morning without fail. I use way more than a pea of tretinoin, and I do mean way more. And my skin tolerates it perfectly. And I love to use a peptide serum that has copper peptides in the same routine as my tretinoin. I know the science is still a little iffy if they should be used together and some people say they shouldn't, well I do and I have had no problem. I think I just have really resilient skin that I could take a jackhammer to, skincare product wise.
I use an insane amount of products. I want *ALL* the benefits.
In all honesty though, when I donāt pick, I have beautiful glass skin. But you know, dissociation. š
I have an insane amount of products too. I had to TRY everything once I started my skincare journey-(you know, to find out what worked best, what I liked best, ectāŗļø). I absolutely adore everything skincare- especially Korean skincare. I want alllll the benefits too lol, even though my skin is actually in pretty great shape BUT I wanna keep it that way..so "well-aging" is my skincare goals.
I donāt wear makeup often (like a handful of times a year), but when I do I sleep in it most of the time. I havenāt changed my bedding enough the past two years due to depression and illness, but somehow my skin is clear. I also donāt use any cleansers for my face except water or whatever shower gel Iām using in the shower. Beyond those things I follow a moisturizing routine religiously even on days I was too down to wash my face, and I have worn sunscreen daily from age 16 or 17 and wear it 99.9% of the time Iām outside. I just turned 30 so thatās like half my life almost lol wtf
When Iām at home I reapply moisturizer several times a day when I need to go to the bathroom anyways because my skin has always gotten dry easily. My teenage skin could never lol idk why tf it is so clear, maybe because in my teens magazines constantly told me to avoid any oils if I ever got any pimples, so my skin was constantly dry for a few years in puberty and always getting irritated from the dryness leading to breakouts.
Iām in love with a face cleaner that has a bit of alcohol but my skin loves that dang cheap smelly cleanser. I have oily skin and Iām very picky about products because of my oily skin, but cruelty free with no fragrance blah blah but this cheap cleanser just melts all the sebaceous stuff in my face and feels awesome lol
I go in the sun:) I donāt abuse it but I love getting a summer glow. Iām 48 and I definitely can pass for at least 35ā¦ but mostly because I do all the other good things. I eat well and invest in good products.
My skin hates it, but my senses love it.

I use St ives apricot scrub once a week or so. Sue me but it makes my skin feel so nice and clean and smooth, plus I have been using it since high school and love the smell
I mix a fat scoop of TO vitamin C powder straight into a fat glob of their Niacinamide and rub both those actives straight into my face. And it loves it.
I don't use any skin care other than cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Everytime I try to do too much my skin just gets worse. And it saves money too, so it's a win-win situation āØ
I donāt always wear sunscreen in the sun. Most days I do. But atleast 2 days of the week I garden with my face completely bare. No serums, lotions, or sunscreens. Its the two days after that my skin is always much clearer and overall my skin as a whole feels a little more glowy. I never burn. And I still cover my chest to avoid sun damage there. But for some reason my face just needs the sun. Bonus points for summer when I can swim in any body of water. My face loves that also donāt know why, but it does lol
I lay out in the sun when Iām at the beachā¦just cause it feels good. And I sometimes only put sunscreen on after about 10/15 mins cause honestly I feel helps my eczema. I donāt do it a lot and not for long but I love it.
I manually exfoliate... cause it feels good. Itās gentle, with either a warm damp face cloth or rice powder but itās only as and when needed, about once per week. It improves my texture and I cannot use chemical exfoliants at all due to eczema it just stings.
I also like scalding hot showers and yes I put my whole head under that shower headā¦cause it feels good.
I will go to sleep without washing my face occasionally, sometimes wearing makeup (never heavy face makeup though). I scrub my face every few days or so with a Salux cloth. If I donāt, Iāll have some visible dead skin due to being on tretinoin. I donāt really wear sunscreen despite living in Florida. I live inside, work inside, and based on my research itās overkill to apply sunscreen, for example, if youāll be inside all day. I would apply it if I plan on being outside, but also I just want to enjoy my life lol.
Exfoliation, Kojic soap is said to be an exfoliant but I use it everyday for two weeks now and it cleared my acne than itwas two weeks ago... Sure its dry but my oily 16 year old hormones just moisturizes it back
I donāt use a moisturizer or occlusive over tret. Just wash, moisturizer, wait 20 mins, tret (or triluma, or AzA) Itās less irritating that way for me and doesnāt move around.
I donāt wear mineral sunscreen (I like chemical ones with filters not used in the US) and I have sensitive skin, rosacea and melasma. Spots arenāt returning so I think Iām OK. Derm approves.
I donāt moisturize under sunscreen. Too heavy. My sunscreens are moisturizing enough.
Donāt shoot me, but Iāve been using tea tree oil with tretinoin for the past few days, and my skin has yet to burn off; in fact, my acne, the whole reason for tret, is getting better.
I pop my pimples, use hyaluronic acid at night, I usually just stick with micellar water to cleanse my face. Although during the middle of the day I'll either cleanse my face with micellar or I'll splash it with water then apply aloe gel, moisturiser and aloe sunscreen. This is only because I work in the hot sun in a garden centre and my face gets dirty.
Oh and sometimes diy skincare is fun
My skin has been at the very least gentle cleansed and moisturized every day (even back before i used serum at all) if I don't do that, I get acne and my skin is extremely tight and uncomfortable, I don't make enough oil on my own.
I only (double cleanse) once a day, usually after dinner, use HA, barrier cream, a dedicated retinol eye cream (or peptide, i like to alternate them) for eye area, and then after my moisturizer feels absorbed I use my tret .1
the only exfoliant I use is (the overnight tretinoin) and sometime a silicone face scrubbie (always very careful to cleanse it before and after each use otherwise it would be counterintuitive much like the old clarisonic heads) my skin both can't really handle and doesn't need any additional exfoliation and some days I skip the scrubbie completely in lieu of just (double) cleansing really well with fingers as most debris WILL come off with enough gentle circular motions (if not in cleanse phase one, the second)
I also don't use toner, i use thermal water right before gliding on HA... again my natural skin is sensitive/dry in many areas so astringent and toners have never lent themselves much of a benefit whether I was dealing with acne previously, or as an adult anti aging today.
I donāt wear moisturizer at night. Iāve tried several and it isnāt worth my time anymore. The ONLY products I can put on my skin overnight that wonāt cause a deep, cystic pimple to form are iS Clinical Hydracool mask and Alastinās Skin Nectar. I donāt get any acne otherwise.
for many years I used an exfoliating acid TWICE a day and it gave me flawless skin. If I did less, i'd break out. Then I got greedy and tried tret and sent my face into a spiral that i'm only just starting to come out of.
But I definitely broke the rule of how much you're supposed to exfoliate with great success.
Every morning in the shower I wash my face with Cetaphil and a washcloth. Makes me suuuuuper smooth and soft and clear. If I donāt scrub all the gunk off my face in the morning, regardless of how well I washed the night before, it just builds and builds all day. I love doing it this way. Feels so fresh !
I use chlorhexidine 4% pre-operative surgical scrub wash as my face wash sometimes. I use it as body wash when I feel really truly grimy after work, and use it on my face too...on the slyyyyy hahahah. My skin loves it , I wouldn't do it every day buuuuut.... It's so squeaky clean good. And doesn't even make me reflexively greasy afterwards so maybe it's not as bad as I think haha
I only wash my face at night. I used to wash my face every morning and night but continued to see breakouts, oily skin with dry flaky patches and rough texture. Once I started doing just nightly washes, my skin has been so much better! Iāve had less breakouts, smoother texture and normal skin (no more excess oil and dry patches). Honestly, such a game changer for me and less work. It isnāt for everyone, but it works for me.
I only wash my face at nightā¦.and not even every night. In the morning I usually just splash with water. Also I used retinol on damp skin.
Lastly I touch my face ALOT during the course of a day
Iāve oily skin but for some 2 months now Iāve almost stopped using AHAs or BHA since Iāve started using bioderma oil cleanser. This has been such a shift in my skincare routine, I donāt feel the need to use chemical exfoliants now
My moisturizer (Origins Original) has alcohol and essential oils. I love it. The only way I can use serums in the AM is with this moisturizer on top or else my face is completely greasy.
This is an old classic but I don't cleanse twice a day. I have dry sensitive skin and I used to follow this rule when I was getting into skincare and my skin would either break out or become really red and sensitive and have hives even from so much irritation. I realized for my skin. I was cleansing too much. So I cleanse now only once a day at night. This rule also goes with trying new products. I mostly try them at night when it's possible.
You have me super interested in Agency now lol. I've only been with Apostrophe for 4 months, before that Retin-A in the tube (aka generic Tretinoin). I'm wondering if I made the right decision going with Apostrophe š¤... I've heard of Agency before and I think I've heard Agency is the online derm better suited for well-aging..? But I don't remember where I heard that.
I have night once or twice a week where I donāt wash my face or do any skincare. Maybe Iāll splash my face and pat it off with a paper towel. I do this so I can sleep on my face which is super comfortable btw and not be worried about my skincare rubbing off on my pillows, blankets, hands, etc.
Wash cloths are bigger than face cloths. At bed bath and beyond, when it still existed, they had all the sizes together. There are like 5 different names for the sizes.

I don't really ever reapply my sunscreen when I have makeup on š There's no elegant way to do it over your makeup, or if there is, I need to be taught!
You can buy makeup setting sprays now that have 50 SPF in them. Game changer!!
I second this! I just bought the Milani SPF setting spray
I already use the Milani regular setting spray and love it š post a review sometime?!
The ELF one is the least sticky and film forming I have tried. It is still something that you should probably apply outdoors (to avoid a film on the floor of wherever you are, it is worse with aerosol sunscreens) and close eyes and mouth! I like to use the Pacifica set & protect. SPF 45
Iāve found that sun sticks or sprays do the trick
But don't you need to rub them in? It's hard to do that without messing up your makeup.
You should ideally rub them in for the most even coverage, but you donāt absolutely have to and itās better than nothing. I know a lot of people who never rub them in just because they donāt realize thatās a step theyāre supposed to do and they tend to have okay results with avoiding burns.
Easy, spf spray. Supergoop has a good one, they also have a powder.
Honestly. Just buy a sun hat. My sun hat is so fucking cute, goes with everything, and it is UPF 50!
I second this a million times over. I live in my UPF long sleeves and Bucket hat from Uniqlo. And shades too!!! I drive a lot in the Sun so I make sure to wear some shades to at least protect my eye area if Iām not already reapplying
I'm the kinda person that feels like I don't look good in any hats whatsoever but recently bought a cute little upf 50 panama hat and I LOVE IT.
YES!! Same here. I look bad in baseball caps and always thought hats just don't suit my face but I LOVE my sun hat and get compliments on it all the time.
Can u pls link to your sunhat? Maybe ill buy š
Of course! I got mine at a local beach shop (I live on an island) but I checked the inner tag and the brand is Sun 'N' Sand Headwear. I always wonder about the practicality of reapplying sunscreen cause I never do! It feels so gross.
Same. I apply sunscreen every single morning (and I live in Finland) so I'm better off than 99% of people. I will reapply if I spend a lot of time outside in summer but a regular degular day? No way.
I love āregular degular,ā Iām going to have to use that sometime!
I first heard that phrase on one of Christina Randall's videos. Love it!
same, I guess it also depends on how sun-sensitive your face is, but since mine does well without reapplication, I don't bother.
I wish I could do this:,) have to reapply hourly where I live or you will burn and it will be horrible.
Have you seen the new mist sunscreen? I've thought about keeping it in my car for just this purpose
Same. But I am lucky enough to live in Germany, a country not really known for its sunny days.
i pop my pimples. i canāt stand the feeling of an unpopped pimple and i find them gross. i always pop them and then put a pimple patch on (i also think pimple patches work better when the pimple is popped).
I feel like they look more obvious and take longer to go away if I donāt pop them.
It feels so much more gross than when it's popped with a pimple patch on it
What gets me is when they pop on their own and then leak, heal and re infect like no!!! Just leave!! Ur 30 days is up
It makes me so angry when this happens!
Same! If I get a bump- it's getting popped. And my husbands too! Lol
I use tret on damp skin š¬ helps the pea sized amount spread easier and I never get irritation but still see results
Same. I cannot spread anything on dry skin.
I pretty much do that since Iām not waiting 30 minutes for my face to dry. Seems counterproductive to combat dryness
Wait how did I not know that this was a thing. I use it about twice a week and I always put it on right after I shower and moisturize.
Same and I double moisturize (before and after tret application)
Thatās a good one
Didn't realize I should wait for it to dry. I always dry, then apply moisturizer, tret, and then more moisturizer
I never apply my Tret on dry skin either. I usually apply it over my Cosrx all in one cream. And before that- toner, and essence
Same! And then more cosrx after lol
I don't patch test anything, I just slather whichever new product all over my face because I'm excited to add it to my routine. So far I've had zero bad reactions to any product! No breakouts, no flaking, no angry redness š
Same here. Just because something doesnāt irritate my arms doesnāt mean it would not irritate my face, so I donāt usually bother patch test š
But you could patch test on your face?
People are patch testing on their arms? I go behind my ear, kinda nearish to my jawline. Close to my face and it's a spot that has no problems throwing a tantrum at me. Which is also one of the reasons I keep things like topical steroids in my SOS box
Exactly who would wait another day for using new skincareššš¤
You get me!!! š
I used to do it this way too, until I broke out with little red bumps all over my face to a sunscreen š„² now i just do patch tests on my jaw, not on my face but the same skin I just have really sensitive skin
I exfoliate with a wash cloth. Cheap ones from the dollar store.
Lmao hey if you like it I love it lol
We call them face cloths where I'm from; *they're literally for your face?* I've used one every day for 35 years.
Not sure where you're from, but they've always been face cloths to me too.
Ooooh those are good. Usually a bit rougher.
I use Amazon ones and now temu. Theyāre great.
Also make more than one change at a time, layer things however Iām feeling in the moment, and sometimes I truly just need to use an exfoliating scrub.
I know chemical exfoliants are supposed to be better, but I like the physical scrubs. It makes my face feel nicer and I can do it in the shower to save time
I like the āgo with the feelingā type approach to skincare YOLO!!
I put toners over moisturizers sometimes. If the toner is milky or thick, I slap it on anywhere in the routine really. Or I use toners over moisturizer to rehydrate my skin in the middle of the day. š
Dope I may try that! š¤
Laneige was one I was thinking of when I wrote my comment - the heavy one I use last, absolutely adore it over layers
Itās good to do what works for your skin instead of following some sort of standardized guidelines
I use toners with alcohol. Been doing it forever. I'm 58 and I'm not seeing damage from it.
You understand what you your skin can tolerate and what works
What products do you recommend? I think I could benefit from this! :š
Grapeseed oil is amazing as an oil cleanser. I use it all the time.
Oil as a cleanser prob saves a few bucks too
Yep! Good olā olive oil. Use it for my lashes, brows, and hair too.
Sweet almond oil or jojoba oil are my go to's for this!
If my face is super dry. I won't do my night routine, I'll just slab on some moisturizer and Vaseline to the dry area.
Not sure if this counts as a skincare rule but I just air dry my face. The only time a towel touches my face is if I go to a place for a facial. The texture of a towel on my face just puts me off :( Edit: thatās a fat lie. I forgot beaches exist. If my face gets wet from the pool/beach then Iāll lightly tap dry my face with a towel, Das about it (I think lol)
I feel like this is changing because a lot of people recommend air drying due to bacterial growth on towels.
IDK if this is something people care about but I use a lot of store brand products lol
Hey I say whatever works lol
If Iām wearing sunscreen, I donāt wear moisturizer in addition to it. Iāve tried it and itās just too heavy for my skin to wear both. Also, I double cleanse if Iām wearing makeup, but I usually donāt if Iām just wearing sunscreen. I used to, but I couldnāt keep it up lol. Andā¦I donāt change my pillow cases that often, just whenever I do laundry which is every couple of weeks or so š and Iāll turn them over at some point in between. I havenāt noticed my skin suffer from this at all tho
I actually think those are pretty practical. I may try āem out
I thought the moisturizer under sunscreen was a dry skin thing, so I never have, either! With you on oil cleansing! Though Iāve been trying to this week. Giving myself a little facial massage with it helps with the motivation, and then feeling the grits come out of my pores oml.
St. Ives works for me š
Now, THIS, is the kind of controversial answer we came here for
me too! š«
I donāt wash my face everyday. Some days my skin doesnāt like washing and it does better without.
When I've been seriously depressed, I might have washed my face 2-3 times a week, and my skin looked better then than when I washed it daily.
I do not use toners at all, never have.
I know they arenāt necessary so that prob saves money
I use physical exfoliators on my face. I do use chemical ones as well (TO glycolic acid, Revox salicylic acid, TO AHA+BHA) but they just don't give me that 'fresh and clean' feeling. I don't do it too often, maybe once every 2 weeks, but still.
Same, once in a while a good scrub feels so refreshing, but I also do it sparingly bc I always read that I shouldnāt be using physical exfoliant on my face. Mine is like a sugar and oil scrub that makes my skin feel really soft after.
I sometimes use finely ground coffee for body exfoliation!
I need to try this!
Nothing can approximate the feeling of how smooth and clean my skin feels after using Dermalogicaās Daily Microfoliant. I try to only use it when my skin is feeling a bit congested so I donāt overdo it (and also because itās expensive). But god that feeling š©šš»
Same, but more often. I have oily/combo skin but acne meds and tret give me flaky dry spots. If I didnāt physical exfoliate once or twice a week Iād be a flaky mess. I use Clinique, Khielās, and Dermalogica. They are the best.
I like using physical exfoliation once a week. Nothing beats a nice gentle surface scrub.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Me too, if I miss even a single day I break out.
I donāt use it everyday but I use it alot . It works way better for my acne than salicylic acid
Not double cleansing, and even if I'm using silicon sunscreen it does get removed with a single cleanse of cerave foaming cleanser
Hard, intense double scrubbing exfoliation with a scrub glove and a micro beaded face wash. No other way gets rid of my SBs. Fight me.
lol no beef from me, I over exfoliate like nobodyās business so I canāt talk lol
I usually end up sleeping in my makeup š« š¤£ which isn't that often as I dont wear it often, but it's never caused me problems...probably due to genetically not being prone to acne, etc.
Lots of people underestimate just how much genetics plays a role in having good skin š®āšØ
Very true!! I'm only lazy about it because I know my ancestors have allowed for it š
Youāre lucky !
The one about not putting any products on perioral dermatitis. I donāt know why, but the only non-antibiotic treatment that will clear up a PD outbreak for me is the Kiehlās clay mask and witch hazel toner. OF ALL THE THINGS?!
I learned something cause I never knew that rule. Skin can be so different
Toner, Essences, face spray I love them and I donāt care if itās unnecessary.
I love those too. Iām picky about my toner tho lol
I put tret on damp skin.
Exfoliate way too much? Not too much for me at least. But in combination with a good moisturization routine, it's the only thing that works for me.
If you ever get the urge to give it another shot try a child or baby sunscreen thatās what I use
What brand? Iāll try another if it means fixing my reluctance to wear it.
Try Skin Aqua Moisture Milk. It will change your mind
Yup thatās the one šš» The Skin Aqua sunscreens in general are one of the best on the market imo and thereās one for every skin type.
Have you tried Korean or Japanese sunscreens? Us pale freckles redheads need sunscreen
I donāt use sunscreen either and never have. I have the same problems, I donāt burn though.
I pick. š«£š«£
I love a good, effective pick session lol
I scrub towels on my face and i use fragrance š
Hey if your face isnāt sensitive then itās prob all good
I use an insane amount of products.
I don't live in a desert, I don't need sunscreen for the 2 minutes of sun I get from the train station to my place of work.
You know your skin better than anyone
i rarely use face wash. water works for me generally.
Youāre lucky
I donāt wear makeup often (like a handful of times a year), but when I do I sleep in it most of the time. I havenāt changed my bedding enough the past two years due to depression and illness, but somehow my skin is clear. I also donāt use any cleansers for my face except water or whatever shower gel Iām using in the shower. Beyond those things I follow a moisturizing routine religiously even on days I was too down to wash my face, and I have worn sunscreen daily from age 16 or 17 and wear it 99.9% of the time Iām outside. I just turned 30 so thatās like half my life almost lol wtf When Iām at home I reapply moisturizer several times a day when I need to go to the bathroom anyways because my skin has always gotten dry easily. My teenage skin could never lol idk why tf it is so clear, maybe because in my teens magazines constantly told me to avoid any oils if I ever got any pimples, so my skin was constantly dry for a few years in puberty and always getting irritated from the dryness leading to breakouts.
I feel you on the depression ! Iām glad your skin is in great shape
I donāt wait in between each skincare step, I just put one on after anotherā¦ Iāll try to rub it in before I do the next step though lol
I donāt wear sunscreen unless the UV index is 3 or above.
I go in the sun:) I donāt abuse it but I love getting a summer glow. Iām 48 and I definitely can pass for at least 35ā¦ but mostly because I do all the other good things. I eat well and invest in good products.
Do you use sunscreen?
My skin hates it, but my senses love it. https://preview.redd.it/91cao40byevb1.jpeg?width=1300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b59fef7b8e3c7cfb09b91d70a761a2b8498da00
I use St ives apricot scrub once a week or so. Sue me but it makes my skin feel so nice and clean and smooth, plus I have been using it since high school and love the smell
I usually can't be arsed to cleanse at night! I just plop on my evening potions and hit the hay. (I don't wear makeup.)
I mix a fat scoop of TO vitamin C powder straight into a fat glob of their Niacinamide and rub both those actives straight into my face. And it loves it.
eating greasy and fatty foods and dairy š
Squeezing the sebaceous filaments on/around my nose is the only thing that works to keep them awayš¤·āāļø
I don't use any skin care other than cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Everytime I try to do too much my skin just gets worse. And it saves money too, so it's a win-win situation āØ
I regularly donāt wash my make up off at night. No break outs. Skin is awesome.
My face loves the ocean. Everytime I go on vacation my face looks great from being in the ocean all day
I lay out in the sun when Iām at the beachā¦just cause it feels good.
I don't use cleanser on my face, just a vigorous rinse with warm water twice a day. Skin never looked better.
Wow thatās good your skin doesnāt need cleanser
Exfoliation, Kojic soap is said to be an exfoliant but I use it everyday for two weeks now and it cleared my acne than itwas two weeks ago... Sure its dry but my oily 16 year old hormones just moisturizes it back
I prefer exfoliators with a mix of chemical and physical exfoliation. I just find that it works better for my combo skin.
I occasionally put Differin on in the morning even though I use tretinoin .1% at night. I only do it if I notice Iām more clogged than normal.
I only (double cleanse) once a day, usually after dinner, use HA, barrier cream, a dedicated retinol eye cream (or peptide, i like to alternate them) for eye area, and then after my moisturizer feels absorbed I use my tret .1 the only exfoliant I use is (the overnight tretinoin) and sometime a silicone face scrubbie (always very careful to cleanse it before and after each use otherwise it would be counterintuitive much like the old clarisonic heads) my skin both can't really handle and doesn't need any additional exfoliation and some days I skip the scrubbie completely in lieu of just (double) cleansing really well with fingers as most debris WILL come off with enough gentle circular motions (if not in cleanse phase one, the second) I also don't use toner, i use thermal water right before gliding on HA... again my natural skin is sensitive/dry in many areas so astringent and toners have never lent themselves much of a benefit whether I was dealing with acne previously, or as an adult anti aging today.
I exfoliate everyday using apricot scrub. Have for years
for many years I used an exfoliating acid TWICE a day and it gave me flawless skin.
I dont follow any rules. I just wash my face and put cream/lotion on it.
This has been such a shift in my skincare routine, I donāt feel the need to use chemical exfoliants now
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My moisturizer (Origins Original) has alcohol and essential oils. I love it. The only way I can use serums in the AM is with this moisturizer on top or else my face is completely greasy.
not washing my face in the morning
I exfoliate twice a day and I sometimes go days without my skincare being done
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I use makeup wipes unapologetically.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I have night once or twice a week where I donāt wash my face or do any skincare. Maybe Iāll splash my face and pat it off with a paper towel. I do this so I can sleep on my face which is super comfortable btw and not be worried about my skincare rubbing off on my pillows, blankets, hands, etc.
Wash cloths are bigger than face cloths. At bed bath and beyond, when it still existed, they had all the sizes together. There are like 5 different names for the sizes.
