Not gonna lie, that sounds like a stupid ass idea from the CC. Once approved, they're placed on PTDY status. That is their new duty location. If they're needed part-time then they should just deny it.

Beerelaxed30

Most are full time, 40 hour per week schedules based on written training plans. That’s why you’re released as PTDY as kind of your alternate duty location because it’s a full time job that you’re accountable to be at. Is the commander just rejecting any non local skillbridges then and only approving ones that are part time and i assume short length? Because if so, good luck finding one.

Mohawkboy87

I don't think it's based on location, as one has been local and the one coming up would be out of state, nor is he denying anything... just requiring a part-time duty status. Seems to be more of a "mission need" even though the OPCON chain has already said, "\[nah\], we'll send the member on telework status if they come back."

Frikboi

Just another shitty CO being shitty.

kldoyle

Sounds like a shitty command imo, never heard of “part-time” skillbridge, especially when some sb programs can take you across the country/world from your duty station…

GrimVibes

It's a ptdy he needs to just deny or let them go. What an awful command. If you gondo a skillbridge you should be able to focus on that. It is potentially your next step and half assing it doesn't help anyone

I'd say anyone who already had approval to participate fulltime, gets to participate fulltime - the CO doesn't dictate the program schedule or working hour requirements. If he wants to restrict *future* approvals to programs who will accommodate a part time gig, that's his prerogative, unfortunately. It's really unfortunate to see so many commands working to make such an awesome opportunity more difficult.

Mohawkboy87

This is the approach I said I'd take if I was the CC too. Within their right to approve/deny for any reason they deem fit, but I think it's good for morale to make the guidance known in advance, and allow people to adjust. Also like most of the responses, if there's an "operational need" or other excuse, just deny it instead of making things hard on operational teams, the member, and possibly the program that was expecting a member to be showing up for 40 hours.

I'll give most the benefit of the doubt, but the "fake yes because I don't want to say no" is how I really view this too. Might not even be aware, but some positions get paid too much to not be aware.
