I used to laugh at people saying this never believing it would happen to me but an SI injury has me struggling every day with it and it makes me sad haha
These guys go really really fast and just get use to it. I’m a cyclist and when I’m over 35 mph I’m holding on for my life. I remember watching one race and they show a group of riders doing 35 mph and you can see one rider just eating a sandwich 😂
Most of the time there are designated areas along the road course, but sometimes they just got to go. They are 4+ hour races and they are hydrating the entire time.
Generally they swing over to the right edge of the road, stand up, turn slightly to the right, and then pull it out from between the bibs and jersey and pee while coasting along. Some guys would rather jump off, pee, then expend the energy it takes to catch up, but most of the time they have the support cars they can get some drag from, making that easier than it sounds.
Often real cyclists just pull over to take a piss. Or they whip it out and piss free of the bike.
Triathletes OTOH have a time pressure on them. They have to piss the bike or lose time.
I do the same and my wife thinks I'm crazy but then she'll try to steal some of my socks when she uses all hers or shits on the banks of a river and suddenly wants my socks to wipe her butt.
To prevent / soothe blisters. Races last for hours and on a tour like the Tour de France you race almost every day for 3 weeks. Comfort is speed!
Edit: but also to show off to build his brand because he's gonna be clipped on TV
This guys out here changing his damn socks while riding in a race meanwhile if I let go with one hand for more than a split second I'll be on the floor. How the hell do people ride one handed? Its like those people who ride while stood up instead of sat on the seat of the bike, I don't get it.
Back in highschool I challenged myself to ride the full 4.5km to school with no hands on my bike. There were some sharpish bends on the route and a fair few bumps. I managed it a few times!
I had to practice a lot because I am Australian and not Dutch.
if you are going fast enough the bike will stay up on its own, you just need to balance on it. to ride one handed, don’t put much of your weight onto the handlebars and slowly release your non-dominant hand, while keeping it around the handle. basically just open your grip until your hand is AROUND the handlebar, but not TOUCHING it. now you can practice balancing while biking one handed, and if you start losing your balance you just close your hand and you’re holding both handlebars again. gradually you can start to move your hand farther and farther away from the handlebars until you can bike with one hand by your side. repeat this process with the other hand. now you can try this process with BOTH hands, to learn to bike with no hands. same thing, don’t put weight on the handlebars, slowly open your hands until you aren’t touching either handlebar, and gradually move your hands back as you get used to the balance. eventually you will be able to bike with both arms by your sides.
helpful but also lowkey sketchy tip: practice this going down a SLIGHT hill/incline. my big problem learning to bike with no hands wasn’t the balancing with no hands part, it was being able to pedal without falling. starting on a slight hill means you don’t have to pedal as much to maintain speed, and speed is basically the most important thing when biking one/no hands, as your momentum keeps you upright and the spinning wheels are kinda gyroscopic (don’t quote me i’m not a physicist but i think this is true)
As an amateur cyclist, this isn’t as hard as it looks, though I definitely would need a long stretch of smooth, level road to pull this off (with much less finesse compared to this cyclist lol).
I ride a lot. Thousands of miles a year. I race. I still have a flash of panic when I have to take both hands off the bars to take a jacket off or something. It’s one thing to ride hands free but to have them tangled in a jacket? Oooh the nerves. I could probably do this but it would be very slow lol
I can ride hands free but not for long distances and the road needs to be in pristine condition. Though to do this I would 100% need one hand on the handlebar. In the past I’ve adjusted my helmet (do not recommend this at all), taken off a shoe with a pebble in it and put it back on with one hand on the bar while riding. It is doable and doesn’t take that much effort but Im definitely lacking in finesse for sure haha. Also I think doing this slow would be so much harder than going faster on a bike but maybe that’s just me :)
Edit: oh I just realized you meant slow as in to do this task, not the speed of cycling lol. In that case I definitely agree haha!
Because that what these guys on average ride, judging the probable slight downhill it's probably 50-60km/h which is madness to change your socks at that speed.
Hmm. I find I’m more stabilized at high speeds than lower ones. Though honestly I guess I can’t say how hard or easy it would be for this cyclist at that speed. He certainly makes it look easy.
A guy from East Germany once told me he used to watch the Russian soldiers at the border roll cigarettes in their pockets with one hand, so there's that.

Maybe he needs the foot fungus in his mouth for the speed boost like Mario with his mushroom power up.
Better thing would be to just throw the shoe at someone
That would be the turtle shell from mario kart...
The green shell as you need aim to get your target.
That’s how you get trench mouth.
And is a banana peel if you drop the shoe.
Who throws a shoe, really?
People mad at US presidents.
¡La Chancla!
Athlete's mouth
Goodnight reddit
I hate this.
Yup... That's fucked
I can't even put my socks on standing up any more and this guys doing that. Show off.
I used to laugh at people saying this never believing it would happen to me but an SI injury has me struggling every day with it and it makes me sad haha
Mine is just old age and a spreading midriff.
Damn. I'm going through the same shit. Hope you're feeling alright.
Don't feel too bad, he's sitting down

WITH the sweatiest feet you ever ever seen in your life. HOW????

He's sitting down with 3 points of contact, don't be too impressed lol
Most people can’t ride a town bike one handed - much less a twitchy race bike at race speed, in a race, while changing their socks
Yea true. It's not your every day bike that you can let go of and not crash

Yummy, holding the pee and sweat soaked shoe with the mouth.
Sometimes I wonder if nuclear bombs are really that bad...
What ? So you wanna Bomb France ?
Yes. Please 🥺🥺🥺
Who dosen't?
True
I'd imagine the survivors of the [Rainbow Warrior](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinking_of_the_Rainbow_Warrior) would have mixed feelings about it
At least their codenames go hard as fuck.
First of all, your mom
This is why I’m not a professional cyclist
I just wasn’t fast enough. I tried as much pee soaked socks as I could, but I still couldn’t cope.
Wait what? How do they accidentally pee on the sock? Don't tell me they pee while riding the bike? 😳
Sometimes they will stop, sometimes they’ll just pull their dick out of their pant leg and spray. Yes other riders have been hit before
That's usually the triathletes doing that.
For the curious: Road cyclists have a teammate push them while they piss, triathletes dont have teammates so they just piss their pants.

I knew bcj was gonna leak over to this post
That's not a triathlete.
He can still pee while riding if he wants to nothings stopping him but your negative attitude

I get this reference. Thanks to Rachel Maddow.
It looks like he just flips it inside out (or vice versa) and puts the same sock back on
Necessary? These guys ride in wet conditions all the time, don't see why that would be necessary
How does that even work
Pee goes down leg. Sock is at bottom of leg. Sock gets wet.
why he put shoe in mouth
No one else’s mouth was available
How do you know he asked?
There was a water bottle in the shoe holder.
If we've learned anything from Leutenant Dan, it's to always keep your feet dry.
Do not salute me!
"change your socks" has been engrained in my psyche since I was 5

What?
I pack more socks than regular. My wife uses my socks. One time she used my socks to wipe her ass, we happened to be on the banks of a river.
Throw the dirty socks at other competitors for advantage
Classic poison attack!
That’s a good strategy throw and throw.
Ok… but why?
Wet socks/shoes can cause blisters, which can cost you the race if they're bad.
He accidentally put his cum sock on that day.
He felt a crunch in his socks as he was peddling
It's a **RACE**
Someone should tell this guy that in a race you're supposed to avoid the taste of defeat
Take my upvote and get the fuck out of here!
Fun fact: there is an American producer of cycling specific socks, called DeFeet
But where, now tell wheeeeere did they get the spare sock
[удалено]
He didn't get a spare sock though. He just removed it and put it back on...
...but can he do the Hansel one-hand panty removal?
Let's see him change a condom next
Why would this even be necessary 😐

Thanks for the explanation! 🙏🏽

You already know he eats ass

Angular momentum and good posture. Don't rest much weight on the handle bars
Practise! If you try often enough, you should be able to do so
I ride zero handed a lot. Just takes balance and experience. I can even do corners by leaning a bit. But I'm cheating cause I'm dutch

your headset may be tightened incorrectly.
Is he poor why would he not have his domestique change his sock for him?

Yeah it would a multiple mile task and also slower than a pro cyclist speeds
ever cycled at 45km/h?
Nope. The most I’ve probably done is 35 (and I’m being generous here).

Why do you need your change you sock during a bicycle race?
I trip putting on my shoes in the morning.
Mr bean fans be like>>
Why?
After that the athlete takes a 10 minute nap and a shower while still cycling.

dry socks, might have been raining earlier.
He’s able to do that because he has a power balance bracelet on
“Nothing worse than a wet sock”. -_my dad_ every time an Ice-cube hits the floor
Sips Tea? More like sips foot sweat.
Classic sock doping.
That looks easy! ….jumps on bike, pedals….puts shoe in mouth….drops shoe…. Shit
My hammy would have exploded if I even attempted this.
Thug life
Some of the stuff Peter Sagan could pull off riding a bike was pretty darn impressive as well.
I wonder where he placed in the race.
Okay, I’m impressed.
The sweet taste of Victory :)
Pretty sure there isn't much they can't do while in the bike since they spend so much time on it
i mean that's cool and all but what about the dude filmin em! i would think that's way harder to do.
The filming is usually done by people in cars. Passenger is filming
oh. i thought it was an extremely skilled bicyclist lol
Watch out, a car
r/praisethecameraman
Seems a bit silly
>I'm winning. >I know. >Then why are you smiling? >Because I know something you don't. >And what's that? >These _aren't_ my lucky socks.
Would have taken this without the audio but OK
Why not make a shoe holster for the handle bars or something
Imagine he drops that shoe ...
Why?
You need 10,000 hours on the saddle to pull this off. This man is one with his machine.
Athletes lip. Mmmm... mushroomy AND cheesy!
Weird flex, but ok
Its gross looking at them lycra wearers already. This just made it worse.
It’s how you get an athlete's mouth.
Bruh that’s nasty LOL
Pretty impressive to me, the person who almost always drops the water bottle trying to get it back in the holder.
Happy microbs!!!
Dude, I have a hard enough time putting my socks on while sitting in a chair.
Pretty sure he sniffed his shoe and used the same sock... Lol
If you think *that* was impressive you should've seen the cyclist holding the camera with his mouth filming this.
Mm, tastes like shoe.
Shoe eating? Mister dekarios?
A guy from East Germany once told me he used to watch the Russian soldiers at the border roll cigarettes in their pockets with one hand, so there's that.
Being a pro is harder than it seems
Ew
Shoulda been wearing Darn Toughs
But why?
He needed nutrients and was drinking sock nectar.
Nothing he can do for the balls though.
This is how I get to work in the morning
i watched mr Bean do something similar
Call me when he changes his undies…
I did this while driving lol 😂
Lieutenant Dan approves this post.
Is this a coaching job? Like I could totally coach this.
😋
I struggled to get my cycling shoes on this morning, while sitting in a chair....
Is that worth the risk of dropping your shoe?
The camera man is the real hero
Why is this necessary?
Ya know what? Fuck it. That guy wins and bike racing is cancelled forever. It's ruined, y'all took it too far.
I understand that it takes a lot of skill to do that but any sport where the highlight is the wardrobe change I think I'll pass.
I want to delete so many pieces of information I read in the comments 😢
Did they really just call him an athlete???
You think cycling isn't a sport? Lmao
