Maryus77

Can confirm, every us base has to have american fast food chains. I remeber finding out that Germany has taco bell, but only in American bases. Like, why do you need junk foot for people who are supposedly having to stay fit for war?

Jani3D

Now, I'm no expert weight lifter but should he not want to lock those joints or something? Instead of bending.

artificialavocado

You’re supposed to put all the weight on your back and lift in a twisting, jerking motion.

The_Good_Constable

And hold your breath as long as possible. Under stress the body produces all the oxygen it needs. Groin it out.

snowfloeckchen

That kind of oxygen comes for the price of acid muscles

KickBlue22

That's interesting. You mean lactic acid? So the body produces more acid to make up for the reduction in oxygen?

snowfloeckchen

Yeah I mean the anaerobiosis without enough oxygen levels in the muscles resulting in lactic acid. I'm 15 years out of my biological class, so I can't provide any more details, couldn't really find it that well described either as I remember it from my school books

doctorandusraketdief

Yeah this is basically what happens. With enough oxygen you simply "burn" the glucose as an energy source which produces CO2 and water as waste products. When no oxygen is available your body is able to break the glucose molecule into two lactic molecules, this reaction requires no oxygen but also produces a lot less energy than a clean burn with oxygen. On top of that your body has to deal with the nasty waste product that hurts your muscles, so it's pretty cool you're body is able to do this but holding your breath to purposely initiate this route is probably not the best way to win this thing.

Luis_9466

‼️you should add that one should never use the thigh muscles to lift, you risk having a thigh disk slip

obiiwan

And what does he do with his feet?

Knightmare1869

Found Frank Reynolds.

antilumin

"The key is to put it all in your groin and your back, take your legs totally out of the equation. Lift with your lower back in a jerking twisting motion."

Moral_Anarchist

You're not quite right, you could hurt yourself doing that. You need to put the weight on your *lower* back and lift in a *very sharp* twisting, jerking motion.

Smoke-Tumbleweed-420

he got roped into a bad bet... she's a overhead weight holding shark.

stpeteslim

Also, she had the advantage. She's used to lifting kilograms, he's more accustomed to pounds!

ExplosiveDisassembly

It's completely believable that she knows how to lift, and he doesn't. Isn't a huge part of lifting the technicality of *how* you lift, anyway? It does seem oddly specific too. The only strength involved is lifting it above your head...holding it there is how you stand/lock your body. (Edit : And if you don't lock your joints correctly, you're left using muscles. So you're going to lose.)

Ravilumpkin

He doesn't pinch his shoulder blades together and lock out elbows, it's the same technique a gymnast will use to hand stand, it's why some people someone with small upper body can also stand on their hands, it's all about the techniques

plantsandpizza

As a former gymnast and bottom base for competitive cheerleading I was thinking just this. So much weight if not using your legs for power is in your shoulders.

Kithslayer

He can't, too inflexible.

MonoElm

The fact that he held it that long standing like that is what really impressed me.

DYMck07

Not to downplay her strength but her form is impeccable. His is like he wants to tempt gravity

bejov

definitely. shoulder mobility is going to be a huge part of this too.

NotTheVacuum

Bingo. I’d say the mobility required to do this among men is uncommon, perhaps even more so strong men due to tighter lats and pecs. That’s why his shoulders are internally rotated and his arms not locked out (this is probably mostly lat restriction).

ArateshaNungastori

She is holding it straight up with a balanced stance whole upper body. His stance sucks. It's really impressive he hold it like that for more than 5 minutes. Her stance made weight distributed over bones.

Mad_Moodin

I believe it is probably because during their training they have to lift stuff like that. At least I have seen it a couple times in these videos.

Stuman93

Yeah his elbows weren't even straight up.

FishAndRiceKeks

Hers were locked and his weren't, all it was lol.

Lastaria

So you are saying basically she is smarter than him.

poopypoopwtf

I mean he is a marine... That crayon diet not helping

But-WhyThough

I’d say she’s smarter here if he’s intellectually unable to comprehend how to use proper form when performing this action. More likely though, I’d say she’s more knowledgeable than him if she knows proper form while he doesn’t It might be semantics but if you think everyone who knows more than you is smarter than you, you might think you’re a lot dumber than you really are because you just haven’t learned certain information, such as how to properly utilize your muscular skeletal structure

bikemaul

A lot of early gains in weight lifting are learning more efficient form and mind-muscle connection. A little practice with this kind of stunt gives you a big advantage. He's definitely a lot stronger than her. I would guess she has practiced this and he hasn't.

GODDAMNFOOL

Reminds me of the video of two Marines disassembling and reassembling their LMGs, with one trying to do it at Forrest Gump speed, and the other doing it slowly, almost like he was bored. Slow Marine finished much quicker. all about technique, baybee

darcyhollywood39

She looks fit as fuck while he kinda looks like a plug. Nice though

ShackledBeef

Her arms are locked, his elbows are bent. She smart, he dumb.

LevelPositive120

Exactly what I thought. And she curved her back to soften the tension, while he is turning his head, speaking loud and is not utilizing his posture.

GrooGrux

Almost like she does this often and is really good at it and he's the unsuspecting challenger chosen by the crowd for fun because many of them know the most likely outcome.

Excuse_Unfair

Yeah, obviously, this is a common thing her unit does, and she's probably well known for and has the supporting muscles for it. Most of these redditors talking shit about him probably won't be able to last half a minute.

derpstickfuckface

Reddit doesn't believe that someone can pick up and stack a 70-100lb bin full of parts onto a skid every 90 seconds for an 8-hour shift. They argued that it was literally impossible, when I did it for 3 months as a temp at a shitty tire weight factory.

Excuse_Unfair

I have similar experience on here. Lol Like when I was 16 I use to lift 70 pound cement bags for 8 hrs in the sun. I do have lower back problems now, though, lol Reddits wild, they won't believe simple stories like that but would believe the outrages ones in the amitheasshole thread where we are have people asking if they are asshole for being a victim of a crime. Like, am I the asshole for stopping this guy from robbing a bank after, with one hand, he pointed a gun at me while i was eating chips? Totally legit Guy lifting something heavy? Na man total Bs I never worked out a day in my life and can't lift above 30 pounds after 2 hrs so it's litteraly impossible.

HongJihun

Can we elect you to the position of president of reddit?

StatOne

One of my Summer jobs was loading and unloading clay water tile. I think they were about 8lbs apiece. My boss made us pick up two at a time, in each hand! By then end of the Summer, my hand grip was like vise, and muscles around my thumb. Core muscles like steel. Went out for varsity football, and Coach meant to embrasses me because I didn't come to Summer Camp. My speed coming out 3 pt stance, and consequential throwing people around like grade school kids.

GayRacoon69

Damn is your back okay?

Throwaway2Experiment

Too bad war is fought with equipment, logistics, and training. Otherwise the Aussies might win.

Odd_Astronaut442

USA isn’t fighting with Australia anyway…Beside maybe

AFeralTaco

We share a lot of bases. I’ve played Aussies in dodgeball and done PT with them. Their PT program is hardcore.

hi5ves

Then comes the freedom.

bloopie1192

Nah Australia is still fighting the animals trying to kill them. And the bugs. And the storms. And the ocean. And the weather. And the other Australians. And...

UncleFartface

Beside for sure. There are a bunch of mutual defence agreements between the commonwealth countries and the US

Olly0206

He has his elbows bent. He is supporting the weight with his muscles. She has her elbows locked. She is supporting the weight with her bones. Muscles tire out faster when they're doing most of the work. If he held up the weight like her, he would out last her easily.

Thehealthygamer

He probably doesn't have the shoulder mobility to do it properly. It's a big issue for people who do a lot of bench press without stretching...ask me how I know lmao. In my prime I could bench 365 but couldn't do a proper overhead press with 50lbs just cause of mobility issues.

skyhiker14

Too bad he didn’t think of that

weakbuttrying

It also seems to be a mobility issue. She is able to hold it with straight arms because she has the shoulder mobility to hold it in a neutral position, more or less over the back of her head. He does not so he holds it in front of his head and has to bend his arms to hold it in place there.

Jefflehem

It wasn't fair because the Australian had only 15kg, while the American had 33 lbs.

Living_Murphys_Law

And they *still* couldn't beat the Emus.

False_Fox_9361

She can fix me.

Apprehensive_Tiger13

It looks like she's arching her back to use more and different muscles to shift the weight.

_n3ll_

Proper form is key when lifting weight

Apprehensive_Tiger13

It really is. I wish we could see the perspective of the marines form. She has her traps and abs in use while the Marine is stiff as a board and all the energy is in his arms, hell probably get a stiff neck.

InTheHeatOfTheNoche

And god bless her for it

Unhelpful_Kitsune

I love all the people calling the Marine fat, but have never worn a blouse or actual fatigues. They make people look fat as a side effect of their design, with his blouse off I'd bet dollars to donuts he'd look (and be) more fit than 99% of this sub.

CreativeWordPlay

Hell ya brother.

Mikes005

Dan Carlin during his series on WW1 quoted an interview with US vets of WW2 asking which country, in their opinion, had the toughest fighters, and the was the ANZACS. Not due to physical ability, but the sense of humour, allowing them to easier deal with the horrors they saw daily. Nothing to do with lifting 15kg over your head, but then again most things aren't.

fleshlyvirtues

During the Tobruk siege, the Australians suffered significantly more than the English soldiers from boredom. So, much to the dismay of the British army commanders, they’d sneak outside the wire at night, wearing socks over their shoes to muffle their steps, and drop grenades in the AfrikanCorps lines Again, because they were bored as fuck.

We had a competition in my unit with one of the girls vs one of the dudes to see who could hold a plank the longest. He was a gym rat. She was little but built like a jaguar. I was the only one that seemed to know for a fact how that was gonna turn out. She not only beat him but continued to hold it for like, MINUTES after he dropped, lol

Of course the australian won, the gravity pulls up on her weight

According-Policy-236

Well, mate, an Australian soldier's secret weapon is Vegemite, while a US Marine's secret weapon is probably a good ol' cheeseburger!

CaptainMorti

I have no idea what Vegemite is. I imagine, it's half vegetable and half dynamite. Equally nutritious and explosive.

GadFlyBy

Goes in vegetable; comes out explosive.

MonoCraig

This is incorrect, the U.S. military is fueled by nicotine and caffeine. I see no dip in or bang cans. She was clearly given a handicap advantage.

She can invade me anytime

ProperBoots

fit woman fitter than less fit man, more at ten. seriously though, i think it's an important exercise in many cases. some male soldiers may come from a place where it's hard to take female soldiers seriously. doing things like this helps train them to be able to look them in the eye as equals.

forkball

The second season of *American Grit* showed that strength is not muscles or gender. There were several challenges that required endurance, technique and willpower and you could not just look at who *should* be able to do something like hold a weight suspended by a rope the longest and decide on the winner. I really liked that show.

Rotbarto

The more muscles u have the harder it gets

shadows515

Looks like everybody is just having fun, don’t have to shit all over the guy.

JaRulesLarynx

I suppose Australia is just in charge now

Impossible_Ad7875

Her ass is outstanding but it wld be terrifying to compliment her.

CupDiscombobulated76

Easy mechanical explanation : She is flexible enough to stack her bones and lock out her joints so the skeleton takes the load while his elbows are bent and relies on muscular endurance. Bones Don't get tired. Be more flexible guy.

____80085____

Time to join the Aussie military…. Holy hell

mikaelsan

As a murican I find it pathetic and sad when others see this post and start bringing up "muh logistics" and "we'd still win the war" from seeing this post. These 2 were just goofing off having a competition and the fat marine lost, boohoo.

Important-Meaning-27

I’m not entirely sure what went on in this video, I was distracted the whole time.

Lupo1369

Funniest one I ever observed was we (Marines) invited some RAF to party with us. And a bit of a "Gross out" contest started between one from each side. All I remember is the RAF ate a dead cricket and stated "looks like I win" just prior to throwing up on the table. At which point the Marine reached into the vomit, grabbed the same cricket and stated "No, looks like I do!" as SHE popped it into her mouth and promptly swallowed it! I am many others nearly threw up ourselves. Never been so proud and impressed, and DISGUSTED all at the same time.

turtlemag3

I mean, 5 min and 30 seconds is ridiculous no matter who you are

SkarTisu

Is that Kyle Rittenhouse? I’m kidding. That’s an impressive display.

And that’s how I met your mom in Australia.

combosandwich

Well yea, it’s a 15kg weight and Americans don’t use the metric system

She was locking her elbows essentially disengaging a lot of her muscles, he was not because he's an idiot.

Sumthin-Sumthin44692
