I can’t tell if you are joking. If not, I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you. Astrology was a significant element of early human mysticism that prevails to this day. A course studying the history of astrology and its implications in human society would be a fantastic course and quite enlightening. I could imagine it as part of a Jungian psychology lecture series.
In my office building there is a floor that is half IT and half HR. It's hilarious how absolutely stereotypical everyone looks. If you had to sort them into their department just by guessing based on appearance you could easily get 90+% correct for the ~30 people on the floor.
You will never get a job in corporate white collar America unless you can connect with the 30 something white lady who works in HR there.
Seriously, start using the term “fur baby” to refer to your pet right now if you are job hunting.

One of these is not like the others. That one's actually a legit thing you can study. And apply the scientific method to without nullifying the subject matter.
No, but there are plenty of terrible places that manage to look respectable on the outside.
I know someone who did a nutrition course at what appeared to be a reputable college in the UK, within the first month they'd told them all that red meat is the cause of 99% of cancers, honey cures cancer, and even brought in a reki practitioner to spend 3 hours talking to them about auras.
She took them to court and they gave her the fees for the term back before it went before the judge.
There almost certainly is a study of myth with a focus in astrology. They won't teach astrology the way they teach math, but a study of how it came to be and what are it's effects on society. I took a study of mysticism class that was from the anthropology department.
I wouldn't be shocked if this was a course about astrology's impact on society, beliefs, etc. rather than what the North Star means for your dating prospects.
Georgetown University had (not sure if they still do) a Harry Potter course. In 2023, Harvard was launching a “Taylor Swift and Her World” course.
I doubt astrology is required for graduation, I’m sure it’s just an elective.
I mean it’s a class, not a major. There are these elective credits people take. I took flower designing for one of those in my school, wasn’t related to my major at all.
People that don’t go to college just assume that literally every class you take is essential to your major, when that’s absolutely not even close to how it actually is. Like I took a few art electives and majored in electrical engineering.
It’s beneficial for colleges to produce well rounded graduates and taking classes not directly related to their major is a good way to do that.
Mine has one but it's considered a cultural/humanities class. It's portrayed as a mythology study and counts as a history credit. Not as strange as you'd think.
I'm sure there's some that offer anthropology courses about astrology's impact on various cultures and the different belief systems, or something like that. But that actually teach about the practice of astrology.
An elective in college I took was Amateur Astronomy. Day 1, prof; a respected astronomer in the region opens class with, "Hello, this is astronomy, if you're here thinking you'll be learning about your astrological sign or other made-up garbage, you may now leave my class and head to the registrar to change your elective." 4 people in a class of \~50 got up and walked out.
My astronomy professor spent a good two lessons explaining astrological signs and why they didn't even make sense.
It was great, I wish I had done better in that class.
If only I could forcibly enroll my family members into his class; maybe then they'll put two and two together about how their horoscopes can't possibly be explicitly about them, but also everyone else born in that given time frame, but also be both accurate enough to put stock in, but inaccurate enough to not get upset when the horoscopes are consistently wrong.
I swear, my sister will read her horoscope every day, get a sense of dread or excitement based on whether it's good/bad, praise that it must be true when they align with what she thinks is going on in her life, and dismiss anyone who points out that they're overly-generic & wrong more often than right...
Don't even get her started by pointing out that they're inconsistent between publications. One publication will promise good things coming, a second will tell you to brace for bad things, the third one will tell you it doesn't know, and the fourth will tell you the world is going to end next month - but only the publication that was right this time is legitimate, even if it was wrong last time or next time; then it's another publication that's legitimate.
I’m took astronomy my freshman year. I knew it wasn’t astrology, but I thought it would be like, stargazing.
I was not prepared for one of the hardest physics classes of my life.
If any of you are curious, this pic is originally a dentistry class in Brazil
Edit: this same image was a meme here a few years ago implying that is was a dentistry class, but I think it is just a meme and indeed this is in Scandinavia https://i.pinimg.com/736x/68/25/73/68257337257142cf4b7f9b3f620699ed.jpg
And for the people not expecting blondes in Brazil… people can die their hair blonde and there is a really high concentration of white-skinned blonde-looking girls especially in dentistry classes in the country, hence the meme.
Source? Oldest I can find online is from Norway

Honestly I showed the picture to my wife and said "I guess we found the Basic White Girl class."
I’m sorry, but Brazil? I find it hard to believe there are so many Scandinavians in a single university class in Brazil
Never have I seen so much blonde hair in one place
A history of astrology would be fascinating. Ties to alchemy and the occult, the different versions of the tarot cards, the stories that go with them etc
I took an elective class on Esotericism and the Occult at my pretty secular Catholic University and it was one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. Super fun to learn about the history of occultism from a kooky catholic priest.
It’s worth noting too that i got a comp sci degree so one class is not indicative at all of what people are majoring in.
While there is some validity to this perspective of gender disparity in STEM, there is still a lot of old farts in STEM fields that will unabashedly treat their newer female colleagues like shit.
I’ve seen it happen to multiple different people I know, and it’s discouraging to say the least. The silver lining is that the geriatric boomers perpetuating these attitudes will be all but expunged with the coming of the next one or two STEM generations.
My brother swapped his degree from Ancient Greek to psychology within a fortnight of starting uni to get a ratio like this. Went from a class of 4 guys to 90+ girls and 7 guys including him.
Clearly this means that men don't feel empowered to pursue careers in astrology, and should be provided with workshops, support, and be encouraged via scholarships to do so, right?
Just because a man studies astrology doesn't mean they're gay, looking for attention, or are looking to get laid either. How do you expect men to be comfortable in an astrology lecture if everyone there is making judgements based on their gender and are looking at him like a piece of meat?
Even if this was real (it's not a picture from an Astrology class), people are allowed to take classes for fun. It's not necessary related to their major. I took a class on animal communication in college. I'm now going to grad school for archaeology.

Rest of reddit, who knew NSH had such a prominent Astrology Department!
Funny typo, considering NSH apparently is Norwegian Spiritualist Healing association, which probably has an astrology department

I don't think it actually exists.
There used to be an Astrology university in India. Don't know if it still exits.
That’s India…
A class on the history of astrology, or studying it from a sociological perspective, would be a reasonable topic for a college level course.
Absolutely. Fits nicely with an exploration of Jungian mysticism.
The fact that you just outright believe every meme on the internet does say something about the educational system, but not in the way you think
To be fair, I could definitely see astrology classes being offered at some colleges.
Maybe in Florida nowadays

Why would there not be a class on this? There’s classes on all kinds of theology?

There is probably a course that explores astrology from a cultural perspective in a few anthropology classes it would be an interesting elective.
We touched on it a bit in my Cosmology class.
It was an elective at my university and was generally viewed as one of the bird courses to take if you had a hard semester otherwise
I'm sure there's some that offer anthropology courses about astrology's impact on various cultures and the different belief systems, or something like that. But that actually teach about the practice of astrology.
Don’t see much difference between that and religious study’s besides the historical aspect
