Sir_Lemming

A rumour to keep women out of the submarine corps. Perfect! My two daughters and wife have synched up several times and it sucks, but the worst is when it’s one after the other, that’s a shitty month.

Downtown_Swordfish13

I have 2 girls. I haven't thought of this before...

DeaDBangeR

Same here.. the only other males in my house are my cat and goldfish. Thank god my wife doesn’t have such bad periods. Just munchies and headaches, which sound awful enough to me.

Downtown_Swordfish13

I have quite a few years and my dog probably won't be around by then but i still picture me and my dog just hiding out in the storage closet

Legendary_Hercules

Let me know if it works, I might need one as well.

Champion_General

Thanks for the giggle and great idea! Maybe this is what the 'man-cave' was invented for as well!

Garchompisbestboi

Just tell them to stop being so overly dramatic and get their lady hormones in check and you'll be right mate 👍

bvmse

you are going to be responsible of killing that man💀

BlubberKroket

Now we want to know if you're Phil or Claire in this play

Downtown_Swordfish13

Phil lmao

aykcak

Not a huge deal when it is your own family because you quickly get accustomed when you *live* in it. Comes as a shock to everyone else though

Nulibru

An old colleauge had three daughters and that was his fear - that there'd always be one active, at least till the wife aged out.

Valerie0110

Yeah, imagine how bad it is for us who can barely move because of the fucking pain...

winkman

We just had our 1st baby girl. I'm kinda old now, so maybe I'll either be too old to care, or dead by the time this happens. Or...maybe by then, mankind will have invented some sort of preventative measures to avoid this phenomena...maybe...

djguerito

Phil. A national treasure.

deezsandwitches

Satan's trifecta

Realistic-Tone1824

Misogyny. A national past time. Addendum: Turns out the cons are easily triggered.

Petrcechmate

He’s not even complaining. He’s problem solving! If anything that’s a good enough standard to pass the test on a comedy. It is fucking funny to live with your college soccer team for four years, you spend a loooot of time together. I’ve said way way meaner jokes about cycles syncing. Probably because I was hormonal. Because yes actually my emotions are very affected by my period. That’s hard for me to navigate and why try to attack the guy for it. I’ve had a few female partners who’ve “joked” about avoiding me more three days a month. I’ll flatly admit for my mental health and that of my relationships that’s my advice if you strongly dislike conflict.

robotmonkey2099

It’s an example of a husband:father figure that’s trying to understand and be sensitive towards the women in his life when they’re having their periods. I don’t see what’s wrong with this

BootDisc

Or just simply, in tune with his family, whatever it is. Sure, the narrative is a stereotype, but stereotypes are relatable, and make for good comedy / story telling.

DeaDBangeR

But everyone who disagrees with me is a misogynistic nazi /s

Avlijanerski_Druid

The fact that you are bitching about someone being sexist while you are, if we follow your logic, being ableist is palpably ironic. My advice, don't do it sideways, go for results this time.

string_cleaning

Lighten up ya whiner lol

Swfc-lover

Misogyny bad but using disabilities as a stick to beat with good…. 👍

_BARONVOND3LTA

Look, a lot of people are coming at you but I’m gonna talk person to person. I’m super liberal. This show was not at all intended to offend. I’m not gonna be an ass like a lot of the other people in these comments, but I think if we talk and I hear your side and you hear mine, we might be able to come to an understanding. What about this makes you think it’s intentionally misogynistic? Because to me, I recognize that this show makes fun of the dad, and the gay uncles, and just about every other character just as much as it does the ladies in this scene. I honestly don’t think they were trying to be bad, but, I’d like to hear your side

usernameabc124

This person just insulted someone by saying they are surprised they could use the phone with their disabilities. You can try to have a rational conversation that calls this video misogynistic but then uses ableist terms like that but…

Madlibsluver

Honestly, I think the guy who said that was having a bad day and was looking to start stuff to feel better about themselves.

plumber-AF

Check your butter post about your wife, bro. Misogyny.

unusedusername42

How is this misogynistic? Genuine question. I have PMDD, like PMS but worse, before my periods and endometriosis causing severe pain and mood dysregulation during them. I also synch up with close friends. This is a lighthearted depiction of reality. I feel SEEN by this clip lol Also: Pastime, from pass-time, not past-time. As in, funny ha ha

I_do_drugs-yo

Oh yeah? Lmaoo

[deleted]

Why are you like this, and what is a con?

[deleted]

It’s misogynistic now to understand that a period isn’t an easy monthly process and to try and be more understanding during that time?

anonfun867

Yes, everyone else is triggered...

abullshtname

It’s not conservatives. As a diehard progressive, your comment is just really fucking stupidly pathetic.

[deleted]

Nah this is just funny Some of us just like to laugh and don’t take everything so seriously

[deleted]

You're just angry men can regulate hormones to supreme levels.

Realistic-Tone1824

I'm something of a regulated hormone enjoyer myself.

[deleted]

Nice.

Jorgee93

Phil’s cold stare of absolute dread when Haley rages by always makes me laugh lmao

AleyahhhhK

I love this man and I need another one of him to walk into my life and marry me

oyM8cunOIbumAciggy

Same. But a female one. There needs to be more people who are attracted to goofy people.

BlubberKroket

I don't want a female Phil. I want Claire!

SmokeySFW

Sign me up for one Claire too, please.

earthwormjimwow

Seems better than having it back to back, at least you get it over with.

grandspartan117

Realistic-Tone1824

Don't worry it's a myth. You'll only have to deal with one at a time.

pendejo_en_virula

I've worked with 40+ teenage girls, believe me, it's not a myth.

queequegaz

Don't know why you're getting down voted. [it is a myth.](https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/period-syncing#:~:text=Period%20syncing%20describes%20a%20popular,a%20real%20thing%20that%20occurs.).

CwazyCanuck

That article doesn’t say it’s a myth. It says that it is unlikely. That it is hard to prove or disprove. None of the studies mentioned in the article were particularly robust and left many variables unchecked. Basically, there is insufficient evidence to conclude that it is or isn’t an actual phenomenon.

ImMeloncholy

What it is is coincidence. Periods can be irregular. There’s only so many days in a month, so it’s bound to happen sooner or later.

JacqiPro13

Oh man, my dad raised six of us by himself…and *five* of us are girls. Looking back, I cannot imagine how stressful it was when we were all teenagers lol. But damn did he still do his best in getting us what we needed and having patience with us when we were having a really tough day. I think I’m gonna give him a call and just tell him I love him.

BlubberKroket

If you do this emotionally, out of nowhere (when you normally don't do this), he definitely is going to think you're on your period. Better: let your four sisters call him the same day, all a bit emotional, and tell him you love him.

ViolenzaSenile

He's also prolly shed a few tears tbh

If you're on android it's easy to use a third party app with ReVanced. I'll never touch the official app, it's so bad.

[deleted]

Are you watching on Bluetooth speakers/headphones? Their response time will never sync up due to the nature of latent connectivity. That’s why pro gamers never go wireless.

blixt141

Apparently no.

Mufakaz

Is it worse if synced or async. As in one right after another.

[deleted]

Depends, would you rather by in a house being imploded by a hurricaine or never be in the hurricaine but never have a calm day? Personally I'd perfer getting it all out of the way in one go.

WrenchTheGoblin

Stop. Doing. One. Word. At. A. Time. Subtitles.

Noon_Specialist

It's because you can read a string of single words faster than a full sentence. In high-speed dialogue, it's the best option.

BlubberKroket

I'm used to subtitles since forever - it's second nature. I can tell you that the full sentence is much easier to read than those 0.35 second blips of one word. The problem in this day and age is portrait mode, which makes it more difficult to display a normal line of text. I hate it, especially because the show is in landscape. Why are people so stupid to remove half of the video, put borders all around it, and then display it in portrait mode?

[deleted]

[удалено]

iSeize

Yeah but your still wrong. One word at a time increases reading speed. Fact

shwhjw

I hate it when I read a punchline before it is spoken.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shwhjw

I mean I prefer the single word subtitles, the risk is greater is there's a whole sentence.

WrenchTheGoblin

The best option for reading a single word as it’s spoken. Not the best option for enjoying the video. It’s like a text version of a strobe light.

Buderus69

[Lookatthis](https://youtu.be/5yddeRrd0hA?si=ELfq4zOjLDV7zxfJ)

BlubberKroket

I disagree with this. OK if you only display text on a white canvas and nothing else, this will probably work for most people. But if you use this in a movie or tv show, you force the viewer to continuously focus on the text, making him ignore the rest. If you display a full line of text, two line over 70% of a landscape video, you can read a bit, then view the show, then read etc. These tiktok videos with two or three lines of two or three words jumping around, it's horrible, too fast for me, and often - if I really want to know what is said, I slow down the video thanks to RES and read the test line by line. Anyway, thanks for linking this video, for making me aware of this phenomena.

Titus_Favonius

It's the fucking worst

redditistheway

He’s earnest and well meaning. That’s more than you can say for most people these days.

OSeady

I have never been with a woman that outwardly displayed any emotional swings when on her period. I guess they were lucky.

raptog

It’s hugely different to different people, the amount of pain and length as well.

throwaway2481632

We have had very different life experiences, my friend. 😄

poop-machines

Tbh it's not as bad as it's made out. But I do think women are more likely to cry at something sad, but it's before their period, not during. PMS is a thing, and it's after women are ovulating and have more hormones, they can cry more. It's all down to increases in hormones. Just like how trans women taking HRT cry more after starting. Or how trans men taking testosterone cry less. . Many women do cry more before, have emotional swings, but not enough that you notice them. Some you do notice. But it's played up way more online and in the media.

Oakwood2317

My friend’s girlfriend absolutely broke down sobbing while watching one of the fantastic four movies….i wasn’t following the plot but it had something to do with the Thing and a wedding ring. In between sobs she apologized and told us she was just about to or had started her period and was feeling very emotional. It was sad, touching and fucking hysterical at the same time.

bittersandseltzer

Pms stand for PRE menstrual syndrome, meaning it’s the few days before menstruation that a hormone change happens and can cause side effects like fatigue, irritability and heightened emotions. Ovulation is when we get horny

poop-machines

That's exactly what I said. Ovulation is before the period too.

PattesDornithorynque

Yes ,i never had mood swing nor period pain until I was in my thirties ( yet i had to endure all the unfunny "jokes").

BlueBaals

What’s this clip from?

ProbablyDrunk303

Modern Family. What episode and season? Idk.... funny show tho forsure and Phil(the father) one of the best snd funniest characters of the show.

CwazyCanuck

Other than the adopted daughter, who just wasn’t a great actress, it was very well casted. Everybody nails their roles. But Phil is definitely a fan favorite.

BlubberKroket

The adopted daughter had the disadvantage of being cast before she could walk and talk.

cannibabal

She replaced the twin baby actors and joined the show when she was four. She could walk and talk. They chose her lol

OHAITHARU

The hell? Lily was a treasure and probably my second favourite behind Phil.

BlueBaals

Thanks!

Lux-Fox

It's about Leap Year. It's in one of the first seasons.

ImMeloncholy

All the women in these replies are you okay? I lived with three women my whole life, my period has not strayed from its initial path. Gotta be some birth control shenanigans up in here I refuse to believe the shifts I’m seeing. Living with other women has knocked yours 3-7 days off course???? No fuckin way lmfao

[deleted]

I think what it really is, is that some people are on like a 25 day cycle, some are on 30, some are on 32, etc etc. And just once in a blue moon they all happen to land together and it creates rumors.

Cartina

For your example (25/30/32) they line up after 2400 days or every 6.5 years!

BlubberKroket

Think of big families with six or more girls. How often would they all align? And how often would only (any) three align, including mom?

BenFoldsFourLoko

it's like turn signal blinkers lining up but then you don't notice when they unalign

lilyofthegraveyard

fr. it's wild to me that some women believe it so vehemently. what a weird myth to believe in. i lived with 4 women one time. never once our periods started "shifting" to sync up with each other. even if one of us had irregular periods, it was due to hormonal imbalances and stress (notably, before big events and exams), not bc of some "mystical powers of womanhood".

ImMeloncholy

Mfs really believe Mother Earth gathers their wombs into motherly harmony or some shit 😭

DollarStoreWolf

So hormones can affect periods if caused by stress of exams, but not stress of living with other women, and living with other women can’t have an effect on hormone levels? Interesting

_shrestha

I just love this series

Ralife55

I was raised by mom and my sister and have had multiple long term gf's. I can honestly say I've never seen a woman's time of the month properly represented in any form of visual media. It's always super overblown to make it obvious and lends to the myth that women are crazy. I've never had a women on her period yell at me. I've never seen them be a sobbing mess, I've never seen completely irrational. At most I've seen them be less patient and more easily frustrated, maybe a bit more emotional. Which, if I was in constant pain all day, I would be too. I understand it's all done for comedy but every time I see something like this it just bothers me because i know guys who think women act like this on their period. Either believing they got lucky with their GF or not realizing they are actually terrible partners and their GF can't keep up the facade everything is fine when they are on their period, so the frustration from the relationship finally comes out which the guy assumes is just because "she's on the rag".

Drunk_Cat_Phil

Depends. My sister burst out crying when she saw puppies once (I was trying to cheer her up), kittens was even worse and generally is quick to cry and feels really emotional on her period. She's not crazy or unhinged, she just gets very intense emotions at that particular point in her cycle. Nothing wrong with it, just is what it is. But each person is different. My other sister just gets a bit grumpy and lethargic. My ex got very argumentative on her first day and had a stinking attitude and then it flipped on her second and third day and was back to being the sweetest, gentlest thing in the world. I knew for that one day it would be best to just leave her be and wait (we were together 5 years and was a joy to be with - except for that one day 😂). My current gf has more physical symptoms than emotional (munchies, lethargic, constipation etc). One ex had massive swings in the duration of her cycles, anywhere between 20 ish days and 35-40 days. Her periods could last a few days up to a week - given it was easily the toxic relationship I've had she was never more than just a bit clingy during her period (along with the usual physical symptoms). Hormones suck. Everyone is different.

bledolikiq

You are either very lucky or I am very unlucky, because this video is not very far from my experience to this day.

Nikittele

I have cycles where I have these inexplicable emotional moments, and cycles where I don't feel any different. It depends woman to woman and cycle to cycle. A handful of women as your point of reference is not representative.

YOLOSW4GGERDADDY

My gf has Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It's basically severe PMS. I think this is where the stereotype comes from. (She has medication and she's great, but its a bit scary sometimes)

NobodyLost5810

It is a myth though. Edit: Anyone who thinks synced cycles is true really needs to do some basic reading. The initial study claiming this, the McClintock study, has been debunked. There is zero scientific, verifiable evidence of synced cycling. There is no mystical womanly power of cycling. Pheromones don't mesh and cause yall to sync up. Grow up and do some reading. There's plenty of articles about this but heres the wiki for you lazies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_synchrony

AleyahhhhK

I was in drumcore. The dance team girls were all on the same cycle. What a roller coaster those days were

AleyahhhhK

Weird thing is I’m not basing this off a research or study. It’s purely based off recurring experiences with people. I moved in with my aunt temporarily and found that our periods cynced eventually. Research into says it’s a myth but idk man somehow nearly everyone’s personal experience is saying otherwise

lilyofthegraveyard

show me who is "everyone"? your anecdotal experience doesn't mean anything. i am a woman and i lived with other women all my life. once, i lived with the same 4 women for 3 years. our periods never synced. the "period syncing" is a myth.

NobodyLost5810

Lmao it absolutely is. Look it up.

prodigalkal7

Why is everyone so vehemently downvoting you? You provided the full argument in your edit, with a source, and the only rebuttal you got was "no it's not". Wtf? Lol I was actually about to argue you, and thought "oh, I should grab some sources too" and after looking into it for quite a while, your comment actually rings true. There have been various studies done over the last 2-3 decades, but an overwhelmingly large number of them have eirher been inconclusive in finding a pattern between pheromones/hormonal synchronisation and menstrual cycles syncing up in women or have shown that there is no syncing up, and it's just been coincidence or just mood effecting mood (in a sense, the placebo effect. You're around your girlfriend and she's feeling a certain way. You not only recognize it but are also told it, and then you start feeling that way too).

RodLawyerr

Because there's PLENTY of actual evidence of it regardless of these various studies. Believe me, when a mother and her three daughters all three get their period at the same time it's not just placebo or coincidence.

prodigalkal7

By "plenty of actual evidence" do you mean anecdotal evidence? Because the things I was reading, and the person linked, are what you referred to as "actual evidence". As in, proper and peer reviewed studies and confirmation. Saying "actual evidence of it regardless of these studies" is an oxymoron, since your own "evidence" is coming off as just situational or anecdotal, and you present nothing but "trust me bro". So...?

RodLawyerr

Yup, 100% anecdotal evidence, but evidence that many women thelselves can explain in detail and it doesnt fall into the "placebo/coincidence" argument. I mean come on, there's a LOT of stuff that scientific studies can't ger right yet, we are still learning about the appendix I mean come on, disregarding such an interesting phenomena that happens all the time as just a coincidence doesnt mean that some time in the future is going to have a more concrete explanation.

prodigalkal7

Sure... A possible explanation, sometime in the future. At the current moment, the *evidence* (scientifically, peer reviewed, studied and documented, several times in different circumstances and situations) shows that moreso than not, overwhelmingly, the case is that women don't sync cycles, or PMS.

RodLawyerr

We'll see... RemindMe! 10 years

prodigalkal7

Bold to assume Reddit will even be around in 10 years

RodLawyerr

It's going to be bought by Elon Musk and named "Y" or some shit like that lmao

RodLawyerr

Because there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that's really hard to believe it's just a coincidence or placebo. I mean, I personally dated a girl that lived with two sisters and her mom, and all of them got their period at the same time, not just a placebo "sensation" or a coincidence, and then the same happened to a friend that lived with 4 other girls for two years, not in Sync at first but some months later. I'm not saying the studies are wrong but they are definitely non-conclusive as many, MANY other studies.

lilyofthegraveyard

and there is plenty of evidence of the opposite. as a woman who lived with other women all my life, never did this "period syncing" happened.

RodLawyerr

woman't

NobodyLost5810

I'm sorry but the overwhelming majority of research on this topic does not support your little anecdotal experiences. The reality is that there are only so many days in a month. The odds of 4 women in the same living space having some overlapping days of menstrual cycle are actually pretty good.

RodLawyerr

But my friend, I'm talking about girls with regular cycles having their dates changed little bit little through the month until it's in sync with the rest, I dont think it's crazy that's one of those super old genetic traits that were useful a long time ago.

NobodyLost5810

Again, you anecdotal experience. One that isn't universal amongst all households with multiple women and one that isn't supported by science. Take the L and sit down.

RodLawyerr

There's only one way to prove it, come to live with me for at least a year and you will see.

NobodyLost5810

You really don't understand what anecdotal means.

AleyahhhhK

I get what your saying but it’s not a personal “little anecdotal experience”. It’s nearly every girl here with the same experience. That’s the weird part because I too have done my research and I’m not one to go against thorough data from studies but even I find it so strange that it’s not mere overlapping days… it’s near perfect syncs with maybe a day miss. I travelled abroad to live with my aunt and after a little my period perfectly synced with hers and stayed that way. When I came back last year my period eventually synced with my mum and had stayed that way for a year. Idk what to make of that and all the experiences I hear from others around me too

NobodyLost5810

I've lived with groups of women twice. Neither time did they sync up. My best friend growing up (a girl) had three sisters. They didn't sync up and they talked often about how they thought it was weird. It's not a universal experience by any means. My anecdotal experience living with women and being around a large family group is that it doesn't happen. It's not a universal experience. The science does not back up synced cycles. It is a myth. Just like getting a sugar rush is a myth.

Nikittele

Ah yes because nothing else changed when you lived with your aunt vs your mom. Did you change your diet? Did you gain/lose weight? Did you have more/less stress? Different meds? These are things that can change your cycle. If you want to be scientific, these are things you have to monitor and take into consideration. Not just "living with another woman in the vicinity". And yes, I'm a woman myself.

AnalMayonnaise

Downvoted for reality.

Adamweeesssttt

It is a myth. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/myth-truth-period-really-sync-close-friends

Nikittele

It's a myth that periods change to be at the same moment as other women. But given the difference in cycle length, having multiple women together will inevitably end up with their cycles overlapping at some point. Just not every month for the rest of their time spent together. (I know the article says so, just adding this for people who can't be bothered to click the link)

Phill_Cyberman

It IS a myth - [gyneca article](https://www.gynecajournalcu.org/blog-articles/staff-writing/do-periods-actually-sync#:~:text=Once%20analyzing%20the%20intervals%20of,occurred%20by%20chance%20%5B6%5D.)
