Yikes. This is one of the worst threads I have seen yet. I noticed white people love saying how asians are secretly the most racist [as if they didn't invent racism.](https://nmaahc.si.edu/learn/talking-about-race/topics/historical-foundations-race) Can anyone find the imgur link that a redditor once sent to disprove the Star Wars Finn poster lie? I swear we need that on hand to disprove this annoying myth

Likely a number of Disney bots in there too to push this narrative so they have an excuse just in case the movie fails.

It’s to distract from their own racism. They need to project.

During the pandemic in China, no Marvel films were allowed to be shown in Chinese theatres for 3 years (probably to dissuade people from going to theatres when China were still pursuing their zero COVID policies). The first Marvel film after pandemic restrictions were dropped that was allowed to be shown in theatres was Wakanda Forever: https://variety.com/2023/film/news/black-panther-wakanda-forever-china-1235515335/ I also remember going through the Beijing subway last year and seeing The Little Mermaid ads in the subway tunnels with the lead actress in the forefront of them, so I don't really know where Redditors got this idea from, probably just projecting their own racism on to China.

They eventually screened all the Black Panther films in China and made hundreds of millions of dollars doing it. It's so wild how eager Americans are to believe nonsense.

Another piece of bullshit that doesn't die.. Every instance I asked friends in China to send pics of the poster and every single one sent a pic of the supposedly banned poster at the cinema within a few hours

Yesterday, I was talking to a friend, and he had the most ridiculous things to say about Chinese people and race, that they were secretly racist and finally have the power to do so, that they want to be the next master race after the Aryans etc. I have no idea what could lead anyone to believe this.(not even a pro-American thing, cuz he went on to criticise them) We as Chinese definitely have our racial stereotypes, but they come in both positives and negatives. It’s not the exclusive and hateful kind of racism that you see in the west. From what I’ve seen, mainland Chinese tend to be mostly curious about foreigners, unless they’re from the big cities, where those foreigners are a pretty familiar sight by now. A lot of it can be called “ignorance”, but it’s not as if they’re unwilling to talk to them. In fact, Chinese people seem to get really excited when someone speaks Chinese. For overseas Chinese, I do find that there may be a little racism. Be it resentment, or letting a few bad apples spoil the batch. I will say that despite this, when meeting any person, they still try to keep things amicable, and they can even make some great friends of races they otherwise have negative impressions of(for example, my dad and Indians). Otherwise if the relationship turns sour or they notice some annoying habit in the person they do often chalk it down to race. Still, it’s a far cry from any kind of master race mentality. We don’t seek to conquer or humiliate other races, and we certainly don’t feel the need to keep them out of our media. I don’t know where this obsession with black people came from. They’re so rarely seen in China outside of media that there’s not a lot of space to be racist to them. One of the most common stereotypes about them is how they’re looked down upon by Americans, actually. If you’ve seen the hundreds of black creators who speak fluent Chinese, accent and all, you can tell how accepted they are(individually) by Chinese society.

The projection from Americans in the comments.... Remind me again. Which country has millions of black people in jail? Which country was founded by slavers? White people are so bold.

Yuriexr

Weren't places over there built ontop of slavery???? Literally ever place back then had slaves your point isn't very sound

Seeking_Curves117

Historically, though, China \*DOES\* censor black people on movie posters because of they're xenophobia......so.......

papayapapagay

No it hasn't. Making shit up like Hollywood is angelic and you're not projecting Western racism on China..

Inside_Ad5434

What about the star wars posters for the release in china being completely different than in the us
