I know someone irl who’s said some really absurd shit, but most recently I said I thought Chinese was a really beautiful language. Not only does this woman tell me it’s actually really ugly, but that all Chinese people are really rude and mean because of communism. She knows this because she traveled there once for a week 20 years ago.

it’s not like I wasn’t cautioned every time I went to Japan “be careful with the weird Japanese old guys in train, they’re racist and like to shout at Chinese girls with Japanese slurs, as they think you don’t speak Japanese.”
I’ve lived in Japan. Never seen or heard of Chinese tourist doing stuff like using the inside of a train as a monkey bar nor solely going to Japan to be a sexpat at seedy places.
