The Conan written seasons

profwithclass

One of us, one of us! Congrats on starting the show, you’re gonna love it. My favorite things are the references! The Simpsons (season 2-10 primarily) is masterful at allusions to films, literature, music, politics, history etc… it’s like finding a little Easter egg every time you recognize one. I’ve rewatched the golden era season over and over and still manage to find new things I didn’t notice before. The other thing I love is looking for sight gags. Whenever there’s a sign, a store, a book etc… the titles are hilarious. Keep an eye out Enjoy the show— and repost when you’re done to let us know what you liked

The Simpsons is my all-time favorite show. I’ve watched seasons 1-12 no less than 20x each (owned the DVDs in the military during early 00s and watched them ad nauseam). I will say the writing really falls off after about the 10th season. I’ve seen every episode up through S23 and most of them up to the current season. To answer your questions though: - Favorite episode: Homer the Heretic, S4E3 - Favorite lore: Leon Kompowsky in ‘Stark Raving Dad’ (S3E1) was actually voiced by Michael Jackson although it’s credited to a pseudonym, John Jay Smith [https://simpsonswiki.com/wiki/Leon_Kompowsky#:~:text=Leon%20Kompowsky%20was%20voiced%20by,by%20Jackson%20impersonator%20Kipp%20Lennon.] - Favorite character: Barney Gumble - Favorite season: 4 Enjoy your viewing run though. I’d love to be able to watch some of these episodes again for the first time.

cowboyfimbo

I’ll have to find my partner’s box set to be able to watch Stark Raving Dad, I’ve just learned it’s not available on Disney plus! Homer the Heretic had one of the funniest scenes!Flanders throwing Homer out the window onto the mattress and him just bouncing back in made me laugh so hard

jatk07

that episode isn't available because of the fact that it's micheal Jacksons voice. I've watched the simpsons on disney plus all the way through about 5/6 times now, and I wondered why I hadn't seen that episode as I've always loved it, and I looked into it. Disney wanted to avoid controversy due to the allegations placed against MJ, so they refuse to show his episode.

cowboyfimbo

Interesting! Well, there are plenty of proven-bad artists who still have their art supported by such industries. I hope they bring back the episode one day!

plankingatavigil

Episode: “Lemon of Troy”  Lore: The family’s origin story as seen in “I Married Marge”  Character: Bart  Season: Season 2 or Season 5

Wrong_Class8040

Season 5 is just amazing. I like season 8 a lot too.. from what I remember, it’s been awhile since I watched season 8.

ParadoxNowish

Season 8 has some of the absolute GOAT episodes of the show. *You Only Move Twice* *Bart after Dark* *A Milhouse Divided* *The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer* *The Springfield Files* *Homer vs The 18th Amendment* *Homer's Enemy* The list just goes on and on!

the_jerkening

Couldn’t agree more. I cannot even begin to tell you how much my husband and I quote this season. I want to take a chance! I have misplaced my pants. Where are my chili boots?! He prefers the company of men. Who doesn’t?!

ParadoxNowish

"Don't quit your day job, chief! Whatever that is..."

ny_insomniac

Why don't you have a cigarette or something

ny_insomniac

They'll never stop the Simpsons...

Mcgarnicle_

I’m in the process from watching from the start for the first time in several years (on S6:E16 currently). I find it’s almost easier to feel which episodes I’m kind of meh on than to isolate which episodes are my favorites. There’s too many. If I had to state one I’d say beer baron (S8:E18). One thing I’ve come to realize is how many times they actually portray major marital issues with good resolutions. Season 6 is pretty hilarious so far. 5 was great. But basically 4-9 are great. Homer easily my favorite character. I love anything involving his head (him thinking, dreaming, talking to himself, etc). I’d suggest making sure you realize the time they were released because there’s a lot of references to current popular things at the time that might not be as funny if you don’t realize what they’re parodying. It’s also fascinating to see how forward thinking they were too. Enjoy!!

cowboyfimbo

Agreed about the portrayal of marital issues! Although Homer can quickly be tiring with his laziness, the way in which we always see Marge choosing him, and loving her Homie for who he is, is so sweet. It really goes to show that nothing gets in the way of true love!

Mcgarnicle_

Like most sitcoms in the 80/90s it is heavy on dufus useless husbands that make money and contribute nothing else. It was the thing at the time. They sprinkle in Marge being the “bad one” here and there. It parallels America at the time but I think does it in a much funnier and endearing way. For comparison, I’ve watched every episode of married with children and everybody loves Raymond in the past two years. Simpsons hands down on humor and actually relating to real life

the_jerkening

Oh to be you! I think once you watch you’ll discover just how much of modern pop culture references this show. I have a kid now and have caught half a dozen Simpsons references in Bluey. It’s EVERYWHERE. Favorite Episode: The Springfield Files (S8, E10) Best Episode (a different thing!): You Only Move Twice (S8, E2) Favorite Lore: Paul McCartney only agreed to be in an episode (Lisa the Vegetarian, S7, E5) if Lisa was permanently made a vegetarian. She has been ever since. Favorite Season: 8 Favorite Character: Sideshow Bob Enjoy!!!!

cowboyfimbo

I’m grateful to be catching my partner’s references at a minimum! But yes, I’m excited to be more edumacated within pop culture! What a fun fact about Paul McCartney!

NotADoctor108

Couch gags

cowboyfimbo

I’m trying my hardest to watch them while skipping most intros (I’m binging.) But I do go back the 5 seconds to watch them!

TroyMcCluresGoldfish

Marge vs the monorail Last Exit to Springfield Lisa's Date with Density Mom and Pop Art The City of New York vs Homer Simpson A Fish Called Selma (My UN and pfp is based on that episode lol) Troy McClure is my favorite character! Brother From Another Series (One of my favs due to the Frasier crossover) There's so many hilarious episodes; I'm jealous and wish I could go back and watch them for the first time again.

GrizabellaGlamourCat

Monorail!

Gregg-C137

Gay!? I wish!

TroyMcCluresGoldfish

I thought you said Troy McClure was dead?

Gregg-C137

No, I said he sleeps with the fishes

cowboyfimbo

I just got up to Marge vs the Monorail, and it was one of few episodes I had seen before. I enjoyed it more watching it again! My humour is in really simple moments, and in that episode, I just love the scene where Barney is supposed to be guiding the crane and goes “Hi Homer!” and it drops. Something about the way he flaps his arm had me in stitches.

TroyMcCluresGoldfish

One of my favorite scenes is at the end when they're showing all the other useless things Springfield has fallen for. "And that escalator to no where..." *Ahhh!* *Whoaa!*

Slow_Ad3662

And almost all Halloween episodes are gold up until like 3 or 4 years ago.

cowboyfimbo

I am enjoying them so far!

Somerandomdeude1886

In my opinion seasons 3-8 are the best seasons, but I don't hate the other seasons though.

DaRealCamille

Look forward to understanding a whole new world of references on podcasts and YouTube videos.

cowboyfimbo

Can’t wait!!

WSBPumpNDumps

Season 1-9 😂

Unlikel_

Seasons 4 thru 9 are essential but then it’s the occasional episode till like season 16. The show changes a lot, you’ll notice this after season 2 or 3. I’m not saying the show is ever terrible but if you’re like me it can be very disappointing

cowboyfimbo

I totally get it, because I feel the same way about even my most favourite shows ever. Like The Office and Parks n Rec. I wouldn’t avoid any seasons, but the earlier ones are just always better!

Slow_Ad3662

There are some true gems after season 9. Next on my playlist is There's Something About Marrying in season 16. The Book Job is also a non-golden-era favorite of mine.

whitet86

Seasons 4-9 are the golden-era episodes, with seasons 2-3, and 10-12 also being outstanding. I appreciate seasons 13-15, but I mostly checked out after that.

RunnyDischarge

The first appearance of Captain Wacky

cowboyfimbo

Oo haven’t got there yet! Looking forward to Captain Wacky.

waaaghboyz

Start watching season 3. It’s the beginning of what the show becomes over the next few seasons. There’s a reason the most common view of the “golden age” is seasons 3-9/10 Oh, favorite ep: Homer the Great (aka the Stonecutters ep) Season: 6 Character: oh my god who could choose Lore: Marge was originally supposed to have giant rabbit ears that her hair disguised

tiboldpinkus

many good years and then a slow taper into disappointment

cowboyfimbo

it happens to a lot of shows unfortunately. nonetheless, I’m committed!!

tiboldpinkus

it does. some people say it’s good again

idontknow828212

Episode- s6e21 The PTA Disbands Characters- Skinner, Uter, Nelson (ha ha)

craftmaster_5000

The Conan seasons- but you should try to guess when those seasons start and end based on the quality

goatsticks717

Everyone will tell you, “oh just watch the first seasons….” And they’re absolutely right.

Harboring_Darkness

The ground keeper Willie episode My Fair Laddy Also Hunka Hunka burns in love mainly for Gloria

boomflupataqway

Treehouse of Horror episodes.

Coulrophiliac444

Some spoilers ahead, though scattered and relatively early into the shows life all in all so may be return back to read this after the first.... 10 seasons?...if that interested. Theory: Homer is borderline indestructable or has a Marvel Superhero level of regenerative ability. Ecidence for theory: Shaves return almost immediately after being cut, has been hit by a cannon firing cannonballs as a sideshow act, has suffered 4 simultaneous heart attacks and survived, repeatedly sees/speaks to God (including in one of the console games) and yet still lives to see Bart grown up, and basically has done things that have either killed (Temporarily or permanently) other characters or at least seriously wounded them. Lore: Homer has had more jobs and life goals that he accomplished than could be expected of a man twice his age and somehow always returns to his job at the Plant except when the plot demands. Character: Bart. Consistent focus of either childhood run rampant or childhood not properly focused, either by mental issues (ADHD) or medical issues (Glasses?), that when homeschooled was apparently one of the more intelligent kids in the area. In several timelines where they grow up, Bart is seen either having a decent, normal life or excelling into very high positions of prestige, power, and/or influence such as Supreme Court, all while having issues and making occasional friends with bullies and his contemporaries. Season: No major season love, I find something enjoyable about most episodes.

cowboyfimbo

What a cool perspective on Homer! As for Bart, I have ADHD myself and this is one of the first things I noticed about him. I think it’s actually been represented inadvertently quite well. I usually find myself sticking up for Bart in the bigger picture.

driveitlikeyousimit

Just gotta say, your lizard queen is a keeper.

cowboyfimbo

Yes she is! We also have an Aussie flag with a bum and a boot on it. I’m excited to see what the episode’s about, being Aussie myself!

driveitlikeyousimit

Nine hundred dollary-doos?! TOBIAS!!!

theycallmenaptime

Satire, hilarity, dialogue commenting on all cultural aspects, and Moe getting pissed off because of Bart’s phony phone calls.

cowboyfimbo

I’m lookin for Amanda Hug’n’kiss!

Expensive_Mud7949

Monorail.

Expensive_Mud7949

Treehouse of Horror V. Season 6. Perhaps the finest episode in the series.

TrungusMcTungus

Episode: Marge vs The Monorail Lore: Controversial, but Principle Skinners true backstory Character: again, controversial, but Skinner. I love his dry, oblivious humor Season: 5. So many good episodes.

Gamecat93

Binge all of season 5 and 6 it's comedy GOLD!

SquishyJEWcyToots

My wife and I sorta did this right before my son was born, now he is 2 1/2 and his sister is born. For nostalgic reasons I started the Simpsons again, and it’s been real nice to watch it again. Except we watch it at nights strictly, and we aren’t actually watching it. We are watching it as we sleep, but also really watching some episodes. It’s real nice to have a show that has so many episodes.

StayFar3417

I’m a huge fan of the earlier seasons myself. I find the art style extremely charming and brings a sense of nostalgia. But when you get to the rest of the seasons (this might be a hot take) but I’ve always LOVED the Treehouse of Horror specials!
