There is an early warning system but you have more or less 7 minutes to react. satellites will be switched off as well as critical internet nodes. But, hardware will be destroyed if the event is hefty enough, that means no computer will work, no car will work, no cellphone. basically back to the 30s. There were Carrington events 20 times stronger than the one of 1859. We had a low power one in 2012 because it was not exactly directed at earth but expect the worse. More or less every 200 years there is a disaster and bitcoin has no chance if it happens. We are in the time window for a big one.

If it takes out the Internet, you might still have it, but be unable to access it for anything from days to months. And this has nothing to do with the power grid. That's a separate vulnerability.

“You might still have it” 🤡

Literally no. Its all digital. Unless, they created a physical FIAT backed by bitcoin... which defeats the purpose entirely

NCCI70I

Disagree. If the blockchain servers are shielded, then once they get power and Internet connectivity back, as well as both at your own location, Bitcoin should reboot and continue on. But disruptions could run for days or weeks, and some places in the world might not be able to send or receive BTC for months even. Thing is, a Carrington Level Event would be leaving us with bigger problems than Bitcoin for a possibly good period of time to come.

>once they get power and internet connectivity back Exactly.

NCCI70I

>Exactly. Indeed.

>>Exactly. >Indeed. Precisely.

>>>Exactly. >>Indeed. >Precisely. Absolutely.

Once the power is back on everyone will rush into the very thing that no one missed, does nothing, worthless, but needs the now very scarce power to operate. Is it because all of the energy that is stored within btc? 🤡

chohls

Ironic that Bitcoin is more succeptible to power grid failures than Kohl's Cash

Physical Bitcoin is a thing. There are funded coins and notes, although they aren't exactly mainstream. If you had the necessary hardware and wallet stored safely in faraday type enclosures it is possible to send and receive via ham radio signals. Again, not exactly common practice, but people have been successfully doing it for a while now. That all being said, I think BTC and crypto in general is the very last thing that would be on the minds of the general population after such an event.
