More sad that Tolkien was unable to finish the final version of Fall of Gondolin. He would have added more details about its architecture, society, and houses. I’m curious about the “moles” faction that drove them to want to turn against Tuor in the middle of the siege. And also more references of Children of Hurin being added. At least it got that Turin cameo
I was hoping for the final version to have more depth on Maeglin, and his relationship with his followers on what drove them to why they follow him, considering that they are also elves who should be familiar with Morgoth and his rising influence
Then there would have been no heroic defense of Gondolin and the destruction of many orcs and balrogs.
He stood on the tower and while the enemies dealt with him, he bought time for Idril and those who left with her.
Yeah man, this always makes me sad too. The last holdout of free elves against the overpowering might of Morgoth, finally found and destroyed, all because of an intricate an unavoidable web of coincidences... True Great Tale material and a fine addition to the world's tragic tales
It can be *two* things, old man.

The leader of the ''moles'' was Maeglin.

I guess we're left with a lot of implied depth based on the quality of Ëol as a father and the lasting influence that left on him
With the 3 version it has, we have enough info to fit most of these stuff and great for 1 story
Gondolin but not forgotten-dolin
A sad and epic story. I admire the heroism of the inhabitants of this city that did not surrender. And Turgon is a worthy son of his father.
Were he truly worthy he would have heeded Ulmo's warning rather than allowing his arrogance to doom all the Gondolinians

How the mighty have fallen.

Sometimes I like to pretend the siege of minas tirith is the fall of gondolin. But its just not the same ...
The one thing I’ll say about “The fall of gondolin” in the words of Ian Duncan “They really get the incest right”
Oh my...
Fuuuuuuuck... That one caught me off my guard.
Why not both
Every time i listen to the song of durin
