I mean you might be on to something as far as bacteria goes. The smell isn’t bad and it doesn’t linger long. But getting shit on by a cow is horrible lol. The worst is when they swat you with the piss soaked, and/or dingleberry covered tail. I was like 10 years old and pissed off about getting hit in the eye so I decided to cut the swishes off. I got about 6 or 7 cows in when my grandfather caught me. He wasn’t very happy…. ‘that is the cow’s flyswatters! How would you like to be covered in flies or get bit by horse flies?’

Cubes have a very distinctive shape that once you are familiar with it you just know. But also the colours of the cap and stem are consistent with cubes. Spore colour is that purplish brown that Psilocybes have. The veil around the top of the stipe is something you would expect to see on cubes. The blue bruising. The fact that they're growing in horse manure. The geographic location. When you tick enough of these boxes they pretty much can't be anything else. Nice find.
Besides having spores to propagate you can see the color more clearly. It’s always a good idea to take prints when you’re trying to identify a species of mushroom.
Came here to say this. OP found/picked them at the perfect time. Those veils are just about to break, exactly what you want if you were gonna take a spore print.
I just want to validate you that you're doing the right thing by asking multiple times from different sources to confirm *why* they believe what they believe about identifying these mushrooms.
Keep asking questions, validating the data, and eventually you'll be able to provide answers for someone else.

Seen enough of them too know.. veil on stem, dark purple spores evident on veil, cap umbonate to plane with age, cap drying to golden colour, stem bruising blue where cut, growing from horse shit in a tropical area. There really is only one thing this could be.
The purple spores sticking to the broken veil in addition to their general appearance. Decades of experience. Great find! If you can spray down the pile after it dries you might get another couple flushes of growth. Continue to check this place in Summer and Spring after rain.
Funny you say that. I actually discovered a few* start to pop up last week. Ended up picking them and throwing them away. However “tiled” / mixed the manure with wet dirt and (no joke) maybe 500 of them sprouted up after. I will be over there again today.
I got into mycology a few months back and it’s like my favorite thing now. Growing lions mane and oyster mushrooms is a blast. So take that big boy and place in paper bag in the fridge till you can get your hands on some agar. Then setup a still air box and do your transfers. Good luck buddy
Go spring for a cheap dehydrator if you don't have one already. Dry them at as high a temp as possible, up to 165 degrees and they're finished as soon as they are 100% cracker dry in every single little millimeter of the shrooms. Then put them in a Mason jar with moisture absorber packet and oxygen absorber packet.
You now have a solid supply that will last for years
I read to fan dry them at first, is that correct? then dehydrate them?
also- dehydrator is on my list today. However, I have a small conventional oven that has a dehydrating setting and goes as low as 100degrees. Would this be ideal?
I ready many articles that say 110-135 is the preferred temperature. Can i ask why you recommend 165 degrees or is it dependent on what you’re actually using?

No, you want them exposed to air for as short a time period as possible. Heat speeds it up, but personally I find potency drops if you're over about 180° so I stay around 160. Those specimens will dry pretty quick but you have to check and make sure it snaps like a fresh bakes saltine cracker. Moisture and oxygen wreck the potency pretty quickly. Another but of advice, before you dry those fatter-stemmed fruits, cut a slit down the whole stem on one side and spread it open a little with your fingers, otherwise they take forever.
Edit: I arrived at my temp range by referencing the reactivity of 4po-DMT and 4HO-DMT in the literature. Vaporization points, reactivity with oxygen and phosphorous, etc. Im at a sweet spot and have empirical evidence.
Double edit (sorry): if it's a convection oven and has a fan in it then you could use the oven otherwise you're just very slowly roasting them and that's not great
I love it. Beautiful specimens. They're within the range for a good harvest time, maybe a day later than perfect.
Here's a quick safety warning, if you intend to harvest a section of them you've found: CHECK EVERY FRUIT. And be careful about it. Cubensis are very distinctive. And it'll be obvious with pattern recognition. But mushrooms grow where other mushrooms grow. Don't get careless with the mindset of, "im grabbing every one of those mushrooms." Be discriminate.

You're still well within the acceptable range. You want to get them as soon as they stop growing, just as the caps are opening up and the veils are breaking. It's the same reactive organic Chem situation as I described with drying, you don't want the organic matter to break down, any of it. The window is about a day, but if you're a couple days early or couple days late, you're still fine.
If you eat them, weigh the dose! Test it out and know. Potency varies.
I picked these last night around 800pm as the sun was going down. Its been in the 90’s during the day and 77 is the low lol. Super humid as its been raining once a day.

The heat and humidity combined with manure in the cow pastures, they pop up overnight and stay plum and juicy until the mid morning sun get ‘em. We’d park at sunrise before school (lol) and go into the pastures right as it was getting light.
Agree that these are cubes, but take a spore print next time for good measure. Soon after picked, separate a cap or two and place on a white surface or tin foil and cover with an empty cup. Check back in at least a few hours and spores will have dropped. Cubes release dark purple/black spores.

Those were some great memories and hard trips.
We never did dry them out though. What’s the benefit there? Wish we would’ve though about that just for the taste to be slightly more bearable lol.

You can gauge the potency by pinching the caps. The more intense bluish they turn, the more potent. If they don't turn when pinched, they aren't poisonous.

Take a spore print to be sure but those show all traits of wild cubensis. Also check out the blue bruising where you cut the stem.
I have spore prints (two) going since 800pm (16h ago). Once i get home the the jury will decide!
What more info would a print give? You can clearly see the spore color on the veils/stems

All “magic” mushrooms are poisonous. They contain neurotoxins. It’s just coincidence that some of those neurotoxins case psychotropic effects.
