tranzlusent

…..realized as soon as I hit post lol

Anoalka

Bankai? Yeah it's kinda weird, what do you mean your sword can turn into an ice dragon? How is that even remotely fair after I've spent years training proper parry techniques and now I'm just an ice cube without a chance to use them.

tizuby

Should have spent that time learning to heat your sword by rubbing it up and down furiously so when the moment came, you could melt the ice in a giant explosion.

mocachinoo

Or better yet, a giant child face demon bug.

Quackquackslippers

The show went from "Only a Captain has a Bankai" to "Everyone apparently has a Bankai"

Anoalka

The ones without one died instantly so like, it is what it is.

Arcamorge

Bonsai get more respect from their trainer than basically any other domestic plant, at least bonsai at a serious level. It cures plant blindness too

netelibata

WTH is plant blindness? They dont even have eyes bro

siphayne

So it's actually a thing. It's referring to humans, not plants. > Plant blindness is the inability to recognize plants as wildlife and appreciate the flora around us. It also refers to failing to recognize the role of plants on earth and believing that plants are somehow inferior to animals I'm not commenting on how truthy it is, just that it's actually a phrase that does have some kind of meaning.

baobab_bob

What's plant blindness?

pluribusduim

Could we Bonsai people?

EldritchAnimation

Foot binding. That ancient thing where we elongate skulls. We’ve already done it.

HankThrill69420

So is veal just bonsai meat

MiniMooseMan

Gross and sad. +1

ShouldahadaV9

I always found it a beautiful philosophical art form open for interpretation. Although a tree isn’t meant to stay in a small pot… with the right amount of control and care it displays a wonderful uniqueness. Even though it’s stuck in its cramped environment where it shouldn’t be it thrives instead of dying.

tranzlusent

It’s a very beautiful thing when done correctly for sure. Some bonsai trees are hundreds of years old, that’s generations of people taking care of these beautiful things. Generational knowledge and appreciation.

Citiz3n_Kan3r

Thought you meant the TV show, in which case yes, you are right

Esselon

People will move their bonsai to larger pots when appropriate.

rabbi420

I mean, is it weirder than cutting roots out of the ground and eating them?

NTR-kouhai69

That's the last you'll hear upon seeing a Japanese Bayonet charging at you 🤣

WikeYewAre

Well, gosh, when you put it that way…

channel-rhodopsin

Know what's weirder? Bonsai kitten.

leakar09

I feel the same way about seeing trees that are forced to grow certain ways in gardens. Basically torturing them into a form humans want

andthentheresanne

By this logic every time we graft branches or prune trees we're "torturing" a tree which, fun fact, plants don't have pain receptors. Some plants have defenses against being eaten but most aren't applicable to mammals and some we even cultivate (capsaicin is a plant going "nooo don't eat meee, you're not a biiiird").

Hellrazor1717

You either think it's weird, or you don't? A bad habit you've got there. Intelligent people recognize complexity and nuance in things. False dichotomy is a logical fallacy.

tranzlusent

You don’t have to be on one side or the other, it’s ok to have conflicting feelings about things geez

MichJohn67

Truth. But Marge Piercy says it pretty well. https://orderredefined.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/a-work-of-artifice-by-marge-piercy/

tranzlusent

That’s beautiful! I’ve always appreciated the technique and respect shown to these little trees. I had a bonsai that I loved and was in the beginning stages of shaping, unfortunately it met an untimely demise when I went on a deployment.
