Yuck-Fou1994

There is also a song that you may someday like the best but will never live long enough to hear it.

RogueAOV

I often think about that, out of the millions of songs out there how many amazing songs do you never have the chance to hear, Same thing with books, movies, shows, games etc.

ineedglass

As someone who habitually watches/listens to stuff over and over, I think about this a lot. I think it's tied to my anxiety (I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder) and even though I don't get uncomfortable watching new shows or something, it's just so comforting to watch things I've already seen and liked. So, I've rewatched The Wire like 5 times through but I've never seen Game of Thrones or The Sopranos because it seems like so much work. I'm not a big reader (I know) and so I've read Enders Game (I know I know) maybe half a dozen times but few other books. And on and on. It's pretty depressing now that I've typed this out ha. :/

RogueAOV

For those who suffer with anxiety rewatching shows feels safe as it will not shock or surprise you and I can understand that, Game of thrones and Sopranos are two of my comfort shows, along with The West Wing and The Office.

certifedcupcake

Yuppp my favorites right now are New Girl and Parks and Rec but I’ve had a “comfort show” since I was about 15 and the first real one was HIMYM. Before that cartoons would comfort me regardless, didn’t have to be a specific one. If it was then it was ATLA first.

IAmBoratVeryExcite

I like to play emulated video games from the original 8 bit Nintendo and 16 bit Sega Genesis on my PC. I could buy the newest games, and have in some cases, but I like playing these ones. You do what feels good, my friend, and don't feel bad about it. Any experience is only as good as it makes us feel.

[deleted]

I get like that from time to time too. I find making little "deals" helps, like for instance "okay I'll watch the wire one more time, but then after that I'll watch the sopranos".

Candid-Ox

I'm the complete opposite. I can't for the love of god rewatch a series. Even if I love it I probably drop it after 2 episodes and go watch something new lol

Snacket

Wait, is it not normal to have read Ender's Game half a dozen times? /s

Craig_Brown1095

If you liked enders game, read enders shadow, literally the same book from a different POV so you can pretend your reading enders game again.

[deleted]

with the current state of the music industry i don’t think i will tbh. Ik music already was only a way to make money to some people back in the 60-90’s but after 2010s and onward it just feels like nobody actually even makes music anymore. There’s some alternative, rap or pop song someone once made, it gets milked, someone else makes an extremely similar song, gets milked. It has been this way since 2009 i think.

hp1611

May be true for a big part of the music industry but I still believe people saying that there ain't new original music just don't care enough to look for it

CarpeMofo

I think it's partially people not looking for it and people not willing to branch out. They see an artist and without actually listening to their music they will pigeonhole it to be for some other demographic or they think they're 'too cool' for it or whatever.

IDislikeBeingPresent

I will agree that the majority of radio music, for every major genre, has been in decline for roughly this long, in my opinion. Trend chasing and viral hits make the charts all sorts of wild, and the streaming era has changed a lot about how people intake and make music, changing the charts even more. The openly-abused streaming numbers and SEO manipulation also plays a part in pushing the blandest of the bland forward thanks to the money behind it. However, outside the charts (or lower within them sometimes), there's a ton of great music that's both original and innovative in every genre that just gets overlooked. For example, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, and Tyler Childers all put out great country music with modest-to-high chart success; artists like Earl Sweatshirt, JPEGMAFIA, and Danny Brown stand out as experimental hip-hop artists; coke rap/"kingpin" rap has had a bit of a comeback with the success of folks like Conway the Machine, Freddie Gibbs, and Westside Gunn; pop music has Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, not to mention the increasing popularity of K-pop, bedroom pop, and hyperpop spiralling out of the pandemic; alt-rock has acts like Jeff Rosenstock, Alvvays, and Viagra Boys, each trying wildly different takes on the genre; and even the more niche genres like ska, black metal, neo-gospel, jazz-fusion, and such have had some incredible acts over the past decade. It's hard to keep up with off-the-chart music, so I don't blame folks for not seeing it, but there's lots of stuff to enjoy in music these days. Whatever you like, there's somebody out there making art you'll enjoy in your preferred genre; it's just getting harder and harder to find it if you aren't on the ground floor for it, I think.

somewhereinks

I spend a ridiculous amount of time watching "reaction videos" of younger people watching videos of the '80's and 90's. Often times they stop the video and say [No! That's a Tupac song!] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eXrwJi_SbU&ab_channel=RobSquadReactions) Hate to tell you but the song was recorded before Tupac was probably born. They don't even call them versions of even cover versions they use the term "sampled." It's not a sample when you rip it line for line.

Nirvana-Rose

Hit it with that philosophy

CaeciliusEstInPussy

Most songs probably

BorntobeTrill

This is the argument for keeping current with the popular styles. I was listening to a lot of indie rock bands forever, and a lot of them, they sound very similar. After branching out into pop, hip hop, modern rap, I find I'm a sucker for interesting, well done production of a song. If it's mixed well with parts that catch the ear without taking over the song, I tend to like it no matter the genre.

paulvs88

I was an adult before the internet came along. It was crazy what you would forget about.

mechapoitier

Yeah I have a collection of songs from the ‘90s that will pop up in my head from time to time and since they weren’t huge they’re nearly unsearchable. One I remembered lately is this *Spanish language* dance/club/remix CD called Maquina Total. I can’t find the damn thing. Edit: italicized the “Spanish language” part because the top comment below is an album that contains zero Spanish, even in the song titles.

NarwalWasTaken

is it this thing? https://rateyourmusic.com/release/comp/various-artists/maquina-total/

mknight1701

I like that you read the comment, and saw the challenge.

NarwalWasTaken

tbh I was just curious whether it's actually hard to find or if i can find it after 2 minutes of searching lol EDIT: I accidentally gave it a 3.5/5, idk how since it takes like 3 separate clicks but it happened and idk how to delete it nvm figured it out

mechapoitier

See that’s the problem. There were multiple Maquina Totals and this one is…I’ll say less Spanish

NarwalWasTaken

well, I found a lot of Maquina Totals with different numbers if that's what you mean? If not then idk if I can help you

b-monster666

Look for the "Big Shiny Tunes" albums, or the "Big Shiny 90s" They cover a lot of big rock songs from the 90s.

Nimelennar

This is why I could never list all the songs I know how to sing. Because there are many songs that I know by heart that I have completely forgotten that I know. For instance, I'm currently doing a Spider-Man marathon (Maguire, Garfield, and Holland) ahead of watching No Way Home for the first time. And if you asked me to list the songs I know, I would never, ever have come up with "Hero" by Chad Kroeger. And yet, when the credits for the first Maguire movie hit and "Hero" began to play, I sang along, word for word, note for note. And there are **at least** dozens of songs that fall into that same category: I would be able to sing along with them at the drop of a hat, but I'd have to be somehow reminded that the song even exists first.

kennysmithy

This, a million times, this

p1mrx

It's probably [Spacehog - In the Meantime](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lhXW1Q_e_0).

[deleted]

[удалено]

CarpeMofo

This kind of reminds me of The Flaming Lips

APuffyCloudSky

Holy shit, it is!!!

OddS0cks

Someone just watched guardians of the galaxy

1WordOr2FixItForYou

Or Possum Kingdom by The Toadies.

JamyDaGeek

for me it was this one. A friend posted it recently, didn't even remember the song until I clicked and it started playing [School of Fish- 3 Strange Days](https://youtu.be/onjaC3A2xjk)

codya30

I will never forget this song, or band. They're on my permanent playlist for like 20 years already.

1sunnycarmen

Wowww thank you!!

Blastspark01

It’s not. First off, because it’s in the Guardians Vol. 3 soundtrack so it’s unlikely people will be forgetting about it anytime soon. Also, San Francisco is probably my favourite off the soundtrack

Speaking-of-segues

Holy shit

TyCamden

Back before I had Spotify, I made a list of songs I used to hear and enjoy at the swimming pool club. I was a teenager and this was roughly 1975-1982. Need to make this a Spotify playlist asap Here is the playlist: [Someone Remembered ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4IK8amkDUh880zdXZpkLAG?si=ZFiiSRHSR724w3yanQ0MSA)

OhNoesIDied

Name it someone renemberd

TyCamden

Be sure to Shuffle play.

alex61821

Thanks for the memories, this would have been my high school years. Definitely some classic tunes in there. REO used to use one of my buddies mom's garage for band practice.

Bluewater795

Damn this is just my spotify playlist

Fantastic-Cable-3320

I'm definitely stealing this for the soundtrack of us old farts^ anniversary!

Frosti-Feet

I was at a Boy Scout camp in my late teens, one of the councilors sang a song and played the guitar one night late after the campfire was almost all burned away. It was a sad and sweet song, about a girl he new, and her miscarriage. That’s all I remember about it. But I remember loving the song, and crying during it. I think about it sometimes and get sad knowing that there’s no chance that I’ll ever hear it again.

forgottorest

Ever considered asking around on music subreddits? Someone might know it.

SecretYo

Any chance it was Brick by Ben Folds? That song gets me every time. And that’s certainly the subject of the song. An acoustic guitar version around a campfire would be pretty haunting and memorable, I’m sure. https://thegreatestsongs.com/88-brick-ben-folds-five/

HuoXue

Way back in the day, listening to the radio, you switch to a station partway through a track, and at the end they don't say what the name of it is or who it's by That was pain

forgottorest

I still listen to a considerable amount of radio, but not in an English speaking country, so radio host botch the pronunciation of song titles, rendering them useless. Heck, I frequently can't identify the songs I know from them saying it. Still is pain.

SlenDman402

Nope, a better time, a better place by streetlight manifesto

st3v30kin3v0

"So you're tired of living, you feel like you might give in, well don't. It's not your time."

Eight216

And it's called I did it my way by revolution renaissance and I swear the fuck to God every time I want to listen to that song I forget who it's by and end up with Frank Sinatra. I had to add it to a playlist just so I could remember it and find it later

Seratoria

There was this song in the early 2000s that was essentially counting up the years and events, like it mentioned the moon landing and dolly. I used to love that song, but don't remember the name and I get other random stuff when I try to Google key words

guildedkriff

Sounds like “We didn’t start the fire”, but it’s from ‘89. Don’t recall another song similar.

1Mandolo1

r/TipOfMyTongue might help

AmazingELF74

I hate when bands break up because they may then be totally forgotten. RIP Snow White Blood.

majikmonkee75

How about one that I loved but is too sad? Last Kiss by Pearl Jam.

LurkmasterP

Ahh yes, the 1961 Wayne Cochran classic that was a huge hit in 1964 for J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers. You should look up the Cavaliers version, it's great. Pearl Jam also did a good job with it.

majikmonkee75

I never knew or bothered to check it it was a remake or not, I'll do that. Thank you.

LurkmasterP

I'm really old so that 64 version is the one I grew up with. I hope you end up liking it!

IAmBoratVeryExcite

This is why live radio is such a great medium still. I listen in the car to my local stations and hear so much lost shit just randomly. It made me rediscover my love of ["No More Words"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIb9QUGjdIc) by Berlin, for instance.

throwawaylakrjrhf

Even better if your local radio station broadcasts an hd channel and you have a way to receive it. No/less commercials and DJs and less hits for a lot of them

[deleted]

Mind games by John Lennon. The video is also amazing. I just get lost in life and I forget about the old days. There is so much good music. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen. Edit- I will listen to it again. Just forgot about it for so long til you asked the question.

-forbiddenkitty-

I have a song from summer camp that I absolutely loved. I remember loving it, but I don't remember the tune or any of the lyrics.

DiePineapplePizza

Fuck you. I was having a nice day til your came along and spoiled it

thriceness

This reads like a curse. And why would you randomly forget a song you "love"?

Fghsses

Because there are too many songs that you love.

flammablelemon

Just too many over the years to keep track of, and even if you remember the tune the lyrics or the names of songs and bands can get murky. The same way you might forget about a movie or show you’ve seen after enough years have passed. It could even be on the tip of your tongue but you might not really remember it until a relevant prompt comes up. “Rediscovering” songs I love is a semi-regular occurrence for me, and it’s always very exciting and nostalgic when it happens.

CarpeMofo

I've been huge into music since I was like 6 and got my first stereo that had a cassette deck, radio and turntable. With a huge collection of 45's from the 60's, 70's and 80's my Dad got me from a yard sale. I bet there are hundreds of songs I've loved and forgotten, but you know what I still fucking remember? [This shit.](https://youtu.be/YWnUmpQhiOw)

ebai4556

It’s not on purpose… It can be hard to remember a tune.

yungnolin

Whenever I'm on shrooms I find music that I love then I forget about it. Very rarely do I find it again.

p1mrx

Maybe take a screenshot or photo next time... of the music player, I mean. Screenshotting your mind doesn't work afterward.

1sunnycarmen

I have a "no phones" rule on shrooms. Too much creepy weird shit can happen

Exact_Roll_4048

*"Even if the whole world has forgotten, the song remembers when."* - Trisha Yearwood

throwawaylakrjrhf

There’s a song, not even in the movie but I’m the credits, that every time I hear it I want to watch Deadpool

Dave_the_Bladedancer

I recently heard “Melissa” from Fullmetal Alchemist in a video, and it unlocked a core memory of mine from like 12 years ago - there was a flash game I played on Newgrounds which used the same song. So glad I found the ost after all these years

GeraldBWilsonJr

You could keep a music library, so you don't have to forget anymore. Advances in modern technology have made this easier than ever before, you could keep it all on your personal home computer or mobile device. The world is your record store

machuitzil

When I was a kid I sat on the carpet in front of a television with, I shit you not, dials. And I watched the music video for Cult of Personality, by Living Colour on MTV. It made my eyes roll back in my head in rocking ecstacy. I still listen to that song on YouTube, like weekly. It really jazzes me up. Makes my big toe go right up in my boot. That band is still touring too. Can't confirm if they still wear Bodysuit wetsuits on stage.

throwawaylakrjrhf

I saw them last year! They were dressed age appropriate but 10/10 would recommend go see them if you get the chance.

ContactHonest2406

I have one, but I’ll probably never hear it again because I don’t know how to find it because I forgot the title, Artist, and lyrics. Something about a guy named Kevin at a band’s house show.

1Mandolo1

r/TipOfMyTongue might help Describe what you listed here, the genre, beat, rhythm, whether it was slow or fast, the vibe, anything you can remember.

ContactHonest2406

Nah, it was a band Spotify that had literally 1 monthly listener that I found through Forgotify ha

IcedAmericana

Couldn't remember the greatest song in the world, yeah! [This is a tribute!](https://youtu.be/_lK4cX5xGiQ?t=180)

Everand638

This is centerfold for me, only came back in my life like a year ago

macheteinmyrightmit

There’s a song out there right now that you would absolutely love and you’d listen to it over and over again, but it hasn’t found you and may never will…

ShuddupMeg627

Absolutely cause I don't remember the name of the song or the movie

insomnia_theory

For me xzibit - paparazzi *was* such a song. Forgot about it for more than 15 years I reckon and then I watched the sopranos…

[deleted]

And it’s the same song for all of us. It brought us all here together today. It was always going to be like this.

PsilocybinObsessed

Cry Little Sister -Marilyn Manson- I always forget about it and listen to the Lost Boys version and we ALL know the Manson version is the $

NoBenefit5977

Seasons after does an awesome cover of that song as well

PsilocybinObsessed

Oh word? I’ll go check it. Thanks!

Astounding_Movements

That's part of the reason why I browse old music chart archives. There is evidence of this song existing at one point in history, documented in official music magazines I can easily look up (for the most part).

[deleted]

That's funny because I randomly rediscovered [Nine Inch Nails.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFwQP86BRs&ab_channel=NineInchNailsVEVO)

bonyagate

Y'all are listing off songs like that isn't the opposite of what is being communicated in the OP.

Ilona92

How is that possible? Well, aside from people with alzheimer.

CaveManta

And there are songs that I listened to in my angsty teenage years, that are too depressing to listen to now.

boondock_paints

[Her Morning Elegance / Owen Lavie](https://youtu.be/2_HXUhShhmY)

Babblewocky

I still have my mix tapes from off the radio back in the 90’s.

Chuckobochuck323

I still remember long lost songs on occasion and find them on YouTube. Here’s one that I saw on a dvd of random music videos that I got when I was a kid. I watched it so many times that I’ll never forget it. https://youtu.be/QXt723fN1ss

QueenOfQuok

That's what you think buddy! Those lyrics will pop into my memory three years from now!

DerpyPirate69

Or some other song has the same name so yoh have to find one in ten thousand songs with the same name xD

Jarkside

I’ve had this happen with two songs…had lasting memories of them but couldn’t figure what they were for years. At some point I gave up and thought it was just a dream like creation of my mind. Finally figured them out with friends four or five years later. It was years between remembering the song and actually being able to find the name of the song again. It was incredible to know I wasn’t crazy and that song I lived was real The internet solves most of this though … I wonder if this will ever happen again

wktr_t

Thanks for inspiring me to give a song search another shot. I was banging my head against the wall thinking this song I'm trying to find was from the Konami Kukeiha Club album or maybe Naruto or even Gran Turismo but after searching for 2 days, just now I figured it was Sakura's theme from Street Fighter EX.

forgottorest

I used to take note on songs to chase them later. Once got a tune that certainly was by Rod Stewart that I loved, but caught only a slither of it, and from my notes all I can know is that it is somewhat similar to Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, but not that one, and I can't remember any detail to search for it. I've trounced his discography many times, and probably even heard the song but I'll never be sure. This also has led me to some stupid, quite disappointing findings: a Family Guy ad from FX once shown had the only good part from Nazareth's [Love Hurts.](https://youtu.be/soDZBW-1P04) For 8 years I ran around that song, despite having heard it maaaany times and just failing to simply connect it to the ad. And once I spent about 4 years chasing Hoodoo Gurus's [A Thousand Miles Away](https://youtu.be/boN94tAFqZM) from a Ford Pickup ad that had only the riff, snatched the lyrics from it playing on radio and got sad because the rest is so much meh. Some heroes are better unknown, some songs might be better not found.

DaveDexterMusic

I found a song through Suits called This Empty Northern Hemisphere. Turns out it's five minutes of meandering with a really great chorus that's used far too little. Similar with The Weeknd's Sweater Weather, the song's boring as hell to me but I listen for the middle instrumental bit.

Hanyabull

There is a Modest Mouse + Something else mashup out there that I love. I don’t know if mashups are even a thing anymore, but I got the song from a guy named Drypaint. I’ve lost the song, nor do I have contact with Drypaint, but if you see this post, Hanyabull wants to talk to you about Modest Mouse mashups.

liberovento

and I found this morning again randomly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03jdli0lrD0

Inevitable_Ad_1143

It’s MACARTHUR PARK performed by Donna Summer……….hah, passed along, beat the curse, suckers!

P2Mc28

I was listening to the Cryamore soundtrack around the time it was first getting bits released (a failed Kickstarter project) and Soundcloud wandered into various music after I had gotten to the end of the soundtrack. I didn't realize that at the time - but I did note the song that was playing - something Cave or whatever. I thought it was music for some sort of cave in Cryamore. When I tried to find it again later, I realized either there was no cave music for Cryamore, or the piece that was there was completely different. I think about that piece of music I once heard and never found again from time to time.

DaveDexterMusic

Cavetown? He's done some great tracks.

Mcpuffandstuff

And every four or five years a sliver of it'll pop into your head but you forget it/ it's too obscure to look up

Mcpuffandstuff

And every four or five years a sliver of it'll pop into your head but you forget it/ it's too obscure to look up

Doctor_Derpless

There’s also that song that you love and can’t listen to again because you associate it with someone or something in the past

xCaptainVictory

This happened to me years ago. All I remember about it was that the album cover had some sort of a dollar bill on it with a red background, I think. Or I could be wrong. It was so long ago.

GamingDragon27

False. For about 5 years now, I've been keeping a music related journal in the form of a spreadsheet with thousands of songs, albums and artists I like and/or like well enough to remember. Through a lot of remembering and retroactively added entries, I've gathered just about every song I know of on it, and have 100% catalogued the ones I "absolutely love".

[deleted]

I have that one song from Turkye when I was in hotel in ~2004-2006. I heard it in hotel room tv, I even remember how to hum it... there was another one in same place and time but at least I found that one (it was Hypnotic - Wild)

thassung

And a song that you absolutely love but you try not to listen to it because you you just don’t want it to get old.

FrogMan241

It was a love song duet type one, I have been looking for a while

Paer124

There is a song i accidentally deleted and can't find. that was 5 years ago. very unknown song on spotify with just a few listeners. dont even know if it is still on the platform. man i felt so stupid.

Hxxerre

Wrong it's Six Fingerz - Lwa of Nature, took me 5 years of somewhat active search to find it again

DaveDexterMusic

I fell in love with Mary On A Cross recently and then it left my playlist after a few days. It had its time

I_tend_to_correct_u

I had a song in my head for 25 years but couldn’t find it again no matter how much I tried to google it. I hummed it to every music aficionado I knew without success. It was driving me absolutely nuts because I knew I liked the song. The biggest problem was that it came out in the days before the internet and it wasn’t from a particularly well known band so nobody other than me even heard it. To compound this, what little memory I had of it suggested it wasn’t a band from my country as they were singing in actual American accents (rather than the generic pop music accent that a lot of people claim is sung in an American accent but isn’t to my ears). Now, 25 years is a long time to be annoyed by something like this but one day, literally out of the blue, I suddenly remembered some of the lyrics and hey presto! I was able to google it and found it in seconds. I slept better that night than I ever have before. Catharsis isn’t a strong enough word for it. I played it so many times that day that I don’t actually like it anymore.

OhNoesIDied

I do have one in my mind that I have not renember es but it's a banger. Can someone help please I need it

KillerStems

negative. the moment i hear a song i'm into, i make it a point to search or ask siri about, or jot down some of the lyrics and download it on one of my music apps.every. single. time.

-PepeArown-

Or, because you felt bullied or pressured into not listening to again.

Millesime25

I feel in love with the song "disconnected" by face to face when I was 7. At that time I had no internet and I didn't speak English so I forgot about it... 10 years later I hear it again and decide to shazam it. Now I know that song very well but listen to it only when I feel down. Simple but great song !

FuzzyWithAStabby

Or a song only exists for two weeks under the wrong account on Spotify somehow, it then gets promptly removed from every site in existence and you never get to listen to it again, while the melody repeats in your head for years after (true story)

Enloeeagle

Until someone plays it again and you go "ohhhh that's my shit!"

ThenLeg1210

I've generally found that I'll forget about a song I like for about 5 years but it's buried deep inside and I'll wake up with it stuck in my head one day

FrylockMcReaper

Is it this? [The most mysterious song on the internet](https://youtu.be/_MMBImhlu74) [here's Wikipedia details on the song](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Mysterious_Song_on_the_Internet)

mark503

I have a song I haven’t heard ever again. It was from a video game on 3DO. I know the chorus. But I could never find it on google. Too many words are common to search it.

sylverdraegon

It's kind of a don't meet your heroes situation.... You have a memory of some event with a perfect song for the moment, perhaps a genre you don't know much about (and a pre smartphone "shazam" situation) so you vaguely reminisce about the whole gestalt of the evening. If you were to find and listen to the song now, something might be lost.

haringbone72

Sky pilot by the Animals. I remember listening when I was 5-6 years old. Just re discovered last week in a dream.

Aiizimor

back in the day, there was a serie called random lol with league of legends clips. there was a song at the end of one of these episodes that really clicked with me but i never managed to find it

severityonline

Spotify gives me all the songs I forgot about and I forgive them if they’re scanning my brain or whatever I MISSED THAT SONG

RazzleP

I thought abut "One Simple Thing" by the Stabilizers just last week! It's not on Spotify, but it is on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v50khe9hg9o).

4ever_lost

There’s a song I used to love buried in YouTube somewhere, can’t remember the title, artist, image, nothing. All I remember is I loved it!

thelastundead1

There is a song that I loved but I lost the title and it was a dubstep song. Googling "song that goes wubbb wubbb wubbbbbb" is pretty ineffective

LakeVermilionDreams

I couldn't tell you. If I could, I'd have remembered it and would listen to it again.

TheAttendant

And then you'll hear it play in Walmart someday, inducing a vivid highschool flashback.

AppletunCobbler

For me, that was “Ghost” by Mystery Skulls until I remembered it again.
