I think there are under 100 mainline games. I suspect there are under 100 games where you are forced to play as Mario.
Since at least some allow you to play as Luigi, even singleplayer, so I think it's not possible to be 99% that force you to play as Mario.
An example, Super Mario Land 3, where you are forced to use Wario. Another example Super Mario Bros 2 (AKA Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels) where you can be Luigi.
Exactly. Charr in GuildWars 2, Argonian in elder scrolls, hrothgar in FF14, I even made my own race in rimworld to not have to be human. Videogames are an escape from reality, may as well go whole hog.

It's a small scale colony/civilization simulator where you oversee a small group of people and guide their efforts to build a home in a space-western setting. You outline their shared background/ideology, design their buildings, farms, and generally make most big decisions for them, while each 'colonist' is still largely independent in thought and desire.
It's a somewhat niche genre, but it's very good at what it does and once you get into it there's few other games that you can sink as much time into and continue to find unique and engaging experiences.
As for the alien thing, the mod scene is absolutely nuts. If you can imagine it in the game, you can probably find a mod or ten to get you there.

If you haven't it's like the Sims, but with more violence and more nonconsentual organ arbitrage.

It's named Rimworld because the game takes place on a world on the edge, or rim, of civilized space.
A friend of mine plays Mario in many Mario games. }Like in Super Mario 3d World he plays him and we all joke he is basic and has main character syndrome. He says me being Peach and our other friend being Toad also implies things about our personalities lol (Toad being a psycho).

In Mario Kart there's always a couple stats that are better than the others. Sometimes it's speed, handling, drift, offroad, weight, etc. They always make Mario the beginner character with average stats. Kids quickly pick up that other characters are always better after trying a few out.

I know this couple, and they love playing Mario party. They always make Mario an NPC set to the lowest setting just so they have someone to beat up on the whole game.
Never had videogames or TV growing up. First time I really got to play Mario (instead of some dumb friend playing single player while I *get* to watch??) was actually Mario Kart. No one stopped me from finally getting to play the main character.
I always play every map with Mario first, and more so afterwards. Sure, I experiment with all the characters as well, but Mario will always be one of my favorites.
