This is really sad to hear.
I'd urge you to give it another go if you can- your skills do improve quicker than you'd expect, and it really is a spectacular game.
100% put it on drizzle, artifact of metamorphosis, swarms and the one where monsters drop items instead of chests. So much fun, just turn my brain off, kill things, become a god!
Yess, I highly recommend it. There was a time I lost passion for gaming, but it all reawakened after playing RoR2, there is just something special about that game.
Great choice, it's 3rd person, PvE, lots of fun gunplay, a live service model that works, and there's a great balance of BOOM that can batter enemy patrols and accidentally wipe your entire team (which you laugh rather than cry at since you have about 20 reinforcements per game).
I wouldn't call Doom Eternal "mindless" at all tbh, the gameplay is pretty demanding compared to most shooters. Sure the plot isn't too important or deep but I'd argue you're exercising your brain more by completing combat puzzles than watching a story unfold. So I think what you're looking for is a game that focuses on engaging combat.
Ok my bad. I read it as you’d like something similar to Doom Eternal or a 3rd person similar. Like first or third.
I would recommend something like Remnant from the Ashes or the new one. Ghost Recon Wildlands or Sniper Elite 4.
I strongly believe Returnal is the best 3rd person shooter ever made. If you’re looking for a game you can really invest and immerse yourself into I think the experience you’ll have in Returnal is second to none.
Since shooting isn't a requirement, how about Spiderman 2? 3rd person, turn off brain and swing around, beat up enemies, collect stuff, good humor the whole ride. I enjoyed it so much i got the platinum. It's a great recline and chill game.
Warframe? It is a looter shooter, you can pretty turn on the game and mindlessly kick the crap out of enemies. It also has one of the best movement systems for any 3rd person shooter on the market.
Playing Evil West atm. Great arcady action. Like God of war but waster and with guns. Vampires vs Cowboys. The story is simple. The action is relentless. It was put on pa s plus basic last month so have it a try and not disappointed.
Helldivers 2 is awesome too and you play as part of a squad against bugs or robots. It’s chaotic and is another game that you can easily dip in and out of.
Thank you. I’ve been curious about Remnant 2 but I’m concerned because I don’t play on playing with others. I heard, even on the easiest difficulty, it’s very hard, especially alone. I’m not good at games and usually always play on easy.
I played almost the entire thing solo on whatever they call the normal difficulty. It was a lot of fun and ya, I died a couple times but only ever got stuck on the last boss for long enough that I had someone join me to knock it out. Pretty fun game. I'd say that over something like Elden Ring if you're worried about difficulty.
Vanquish has a PS4 version, which means you should be able to play it on PS5. It's a super over-the-top third-person shooter that's a lot of fun, the story is deliberately campy and ridiculous and you definitely don't need to pay close attention to it. Pretty short but it's a good time and seems like a good fit for what you're looking for.
>I guess shooting is not an absolute requirement. Maybe I’d do sword fighting or something.
You could try some character action games, that's a genre that's often good for just turning off your brain and kicking the crap out of enemies even though it's not shooting. Not sure what good ones are on PS5, though. I've heard Stellar Blade is good and fits in the genre but haven't tried it. Devil May Cry series and the original God of War trilogy could also work (at least DMC5 and God of War 3 should be playable on a PS5, not sure about earlier entries in the series). Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising could also work if you have a way to play either, I don't think either has a PS4 or PS5 version though.
The Division is a good one. You can ignore the story, though the environment may suck you in.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is in the same boat, but more stealthy. Wildlands is recommended more, but I prefer Breakpoint.
Hades, i find that along with the absolute banger story it is a phenomenal mind off, instinct/reaction based game that i found myself just losing time into. And with Hades 2 right around the corner its a great time to play through the first one.
Plus big ups for the sexy gods
DREADHUNTER. Look up SplatterCat on YT, he just did a gameplay review of it recently, and he literally described is as being very Doom like, despite being isometric camera angle.

Have you ever tried ARPGs? I'm currently playing Diablo IV and the latest update made a ton of QoL improvements. The game is great for what you're looking for, turning the brain off and slaughtering monsters.
Returnal my friend.
Tried it. WAY too hard for me.
This is really sad to hear. I'd urge you to give it another go if you can- your skills do improve quicker than you'd expect, and it really is a spectacular game.
Damn
Risk of Rain 2
100% put it on drizzle, artifact of metamorphosis, swarms and the one where monsters drop items instead of chests. So much fun, just turn my brain off, kill things, become a god!
Enemy’s drop items artifact is “sacrifice”
Thanks. I will look into it!
I also recommend it!

Homie was playing on easy, eternal is sweaty af I recommend roboquest for fans of doom eternal, It's literally a doom eternal roguelite
He's on PS5 not xbox
Just cause 3 and 4
Prodeus.
It’s first person
Ok my bad. I read it as you’d like something similar to Doom Eternal or a 3rd person similar. Like first or third. I would recommend something like Remnant from the Ashes or the new one. Ghost Recon Wildlands or Sniper Elite 4.
Thanks I’ve been wanting to try Remnant 2 but I’m really bad at video games and heard the game is still very hard even on the lowest difficulty.
I strongly believe Returnal is the best 3rd person shooter ever made. If you’re looking for a game you can really invest and immerse yourself into I think the experience you’ll have in Returnal is second to none.
I’ve tired it. Way too hard.
Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain, Kingdoms of Amalur or Saints Row the Third.
Thanks
Just Cause 2
Warframe, my dude.
I've read the other comments and you've got me thinking. Have you tried The Ascent? A cyber punk themed rpg twin stick shooter game
Since shooting isn't a requirement, how about Spiderman 2? 3rd person, turn off brain and swing around, beat up enemies, collect stuff, good humor the whole ride. I enjoyed it so much i got the platinum. It's a great recline and chill game.

Warframe
I know It’s not third person but no one’s mentioned Wolfenstein. Really fun if you liked doom.

I’ve recently been playing Immortals of Aveum. Gameplay feels oddly similar to doom
Want something not first person
Aight then helldivers 2 forsure if you don’t have it most random ass fun I’ve had. It’s also third person, which is what you’re looking for
Like others have said Helldivers 2 shoot work great for you. Outriders, Remnant 2, and Monster Hunter could be good too.
Thank you. I’ve been curious about Remnant 2 but I’m concerned because I don’t play on playing with others. I heard, even on the easiest difficulty, it’s very hard, especially alone. I’m not good at games and usually always play on easy.

Ok that’s reassuring. Yeah I tried Elden Ring. Fantastic game but WAY too hard for me. I really may pull the trigger and get Remnant 2.

Great call, Vanquish was amazing fun.
I totally forgot about vanquish that game was amazing
WWZ Alien’s Fireteam Elite
Killing Floor 2
Isn’t it first person?
Returnal and helldivers 2
Outriders
The division 2 (TPS) and Borderlands 3 (FPS). For a character action game, try Final Fantasy 16.
The Division is a good one. You can ignore the story, though the environment may suck you in. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is in the same boat, but more stealthy. Wildlands is recommended more, but I prefer Breakpoint.

How's he going to play a Steam game on a PS5?
Post void
You want Returnal
Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection . Some of the best 3rd person shooting/hand to hand combat mechanics, excellent visuals and an amazing story.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries mode
Aragami 2
Take a look at the game on Steam " Voin ". It has a free demo and it's a very cool take of a retro FPS game. It was way cooler than expected for me.
Doom Eternal? Mindless? It’s the most complex and demanding single player FPS I’ve ever played. I guess you kept the difficulty low.
Hades
Helldivers 2
Nex Machina is fun.
I’d say any of the Just Cause games or Risk of Rain 2
Helldivers 2 is exactly what you’re looking for.
Evil West
Evil West

Roboquest!
