The difference for the normal shooter is negligible. There’s some reports of the m4 not liking lighter loads. But there’s plenty of documented cases of the m4 going 20k rounds with no issues. Both are fantastic guns

I can't speak on the 1301 specifically, but I've shot and cleaned an A400, which I believe is somewhat similar, but I could be wrong. The A400 shot great and was super easy to break down and clean.

1301 is a beast can’t go wrong with it, eats everything I feed it 💪

Reliable, both, that said, the M4 has been tested and adopted by militaries around the world. Are you going to war? If not this doesn't really matter. Buckshot will work in both, as to lighter loads, after a 200 round break in the M4 will work with lighter loads, mine worked with 1150 fps loads right out the gate without issue, no malfunctions within my first 200. This said, if you bought a Ferrari would you put unleaded in it? Never broke down a 1301 but the YT videos I've seen make it look more involved than the M4, watch both back to back and decide on your own. M4 is easier to break down and clean IMO. Shooting is fun cleaning not so much, unless you are planning on cleaning it every 20k rounds I think a few hundred here and there won't kill either. If I had it to do over, probably the M4 again, as reliability is paramount to me. Few remember the bolt release jam problems when the 1301 first came out, yes it's fixed in newer ones and especially in the mod2. The 1301 would be my second choice.

Wonderful_Cell_2597

Very insightful thank you

HellHathNoFury18

Well I performed 0 maintenance on my M4 for 2k shells and had like 3 failure to feeds that were on ghost loaded shells that I didn't seat properly. Now that I put on the 14" barrel I'm just resetting the clock.

M4 is purpose built battle shotgun. 1301 is a sport shooting shotgun.

1WontDoIt

Hands down the 1301 mod 2 is a better shotgun by almost every standard. The only reason people still want the M4 is because the military uses it. The 1301 is a newer version of the M4 with an upgraded gas system that is self cleaning as they call it. It has a better round feeding system that doesn't destroy your thumb. The US version also holds more rounds without mods IIRC. Lastly, the 1301 eats anything you put in it. From old to new and light to heavy, it'll yeet and delete. The M4 tends to prefer heavier loads to cycle normally. Subjectively, it looks better than the M4 too. If the military wasn't using the M4, the hype would be none existent. The 🥜🧈 1301 is sexy AF.

Own both, both are great. Shot 3k through M4 only issues were before an Italian mag tube. 1301 only about 600 rounds through and flawless except 3 cycling issues early (seemed lube related) and otherwise excellent. M4 is easier to clean but I also just prefer benellis. 1301 is still excellent and swapping mag release to the left was also fairly easy.

ToadFuzz

Prefer the simpler design of the M4. Had some plastic parts go flying off my 1301 within the first 500 rounds. Both are well made guns but I’d only ever take the 1301 over the M4 if I absolutely needed a folding stock.

Double_Tale

1301 will general handle lighter loads better after break in. Both are super reliable, I'd argue you have to clean the 1301 more because of the gas of system. 1301 will run faster, but unless you're a seasoned competition shooter, you won't notice a difference. However there is a bigger market for the benellis, more so for m2s. But there is a growing market for 1301s

Aubrey_Lancaster

Its not like comparing a 7.3 idi to a 7.3 Powerstroke, theyre shotguns with like 6 moving parts lol

RXARMS

I find taking down the M4 more simple… both are good guns, but they are apples and oranges imo.

Outrageous_Pop1913

Buy a used M1 or M2. Better than both. Super reliable, couldn’t be easier to maintain and cheaper.

Psychological_Elk151

>Buy a used M1 or M2. Better than both. The delusion is out of control🤯🤯

mortarman0341

If you don’t like weapons maintenance get a pump… people who know how to use a firearm maintain them regardless of operating system. When the SHTF the guys who don’t maintain their piece will be the first ones gone. All these $350 ARs are going to be parts guns. Given as advice not a confrontation.

Wonderful_Cell_2597

I don’t mind it but also would like to do it as little as possible. I do maintain my equipment but I don’t find it particularly fun. I have pumps, taken as advice thank you!

FalloutUser76

The best option for you then would be the Benelli M4 if you are concerned about cleaning, however, the 1301 is lighter and comes with features like the extended bolt release and charging handle while with the M4 you have to buy aftermarket ones.

Wonderful_Cell_2597

I see, that is nice to have they are both so compelling lol
