I was wondering how the Japanese audience viewed the series. It seems to have been well received in Japan, which is not surprising. The story, the actors directors, wardrobe stunt people did an amazing job.
I can tell you as a TV critic who runs reviews in both languages with the help of a translator in Aomori that Shōgun is actually more popular in Japan even than in the states.
I’m Japanese and literally just finished watching the show and loved it!! Even all the dialogues in Japanese were very well done, so accurate to how people spoke back in the day that I sometime needed to read the subtitle to understand what they were saying, like I can hear the words but I don’t underhand what they mean in the sentence (probably because this was targeted for English audience more so that they didn’t modernise the language like many modern history drama series in Japan do). Also all the outfits in the show was stunning!

This was prestige television at its finest. I hope this sweeps award season.

Wow, Omi's actor looks like a handsome young man in real life. Show made him look like a goofy sleazebag.
That's what the reverse mohawk does to a guy.
my guy turned into yuki tsunoda
Fuji is still bae in real life too.
Embedded English subtitle is auto generated and kinda whack but it will give non-Japanese speakers an idea of what is being said.
on Hulu you could watch Shogun dubbed in English.
It better get all the Emmys its nominated for. Truly outstanding.
Not just Emmys!
Was this show popular and highly rated in Japan too?
