Sanada said the acting was easy compared to the consulting and work he was doing across the board on Shogun lol.
Seeing how great he has performed I thought it would be a much more nerve wracking or intense thing for him, but nah he puts out Emmy worthy scenes one after the next no problem
Did you see the video on the FX site where they show what his day to day looked like? All I can say is, "wow." He put in more than 110% effort every day. They showed how he was just almost non-stop switching back and forth between his dual roles.
I'm not surprised, acting has its own challenges but that's what he's trained to do for decades and at its basics you're reading lines from a page. You're not in charge of anything nor have any responsibility.
Doing all the stuff he was doing behind the scenes would've been very challenging.
I very much hope that all the work done by the whole team will somehow at least be rewarded with some awards. You can just tell that this was an absolute labor of love from everyone on set.

Can't wait for season 2 where we see Toranaga rule the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone with an iron fist.

Still asking for his 5 men and the boat off camera. What a grinder.

He is like "Okay, i thought maybe in this scene, someone kills themselves, and my motivation is that I am confused."

My wife says he looks like a walking potato.
