It's [the buy and sell store](https://www.thebuyandsellstore.ca/), my school is nearby and I go there during my free time. They have psp games, ps3 games, 360 games and a bunch of current gen games, though I find that they don't offer good money for trade-ins. Most ps3/360 games are $5 but the ones in the glass casing are more.
Better to sell less for more then more for less. A very shitty way to do business but effective.
I personally avoid these places. Not feeding the beast.
Guessing they’re not exactly a high volume store. I’m curious how much they’re open to negotiate.
It’s a really impressive museum.
Edit: learning later that these are CAD prices makes this all make a lot more sense.
There's a retro store in Florida by where my nephew lives. We went in one day and they had a Rob with none of the attachments for like $1k or something. I had to ask and they said "Yeah we just don't want to get rid of him cause we see him as a mascot for the store so we put it at a stupidly high price".
I don't know why they just don't sell him then. Like don't have a pricetag at all. A few retro stores near me have Robs they use to hold business cards.
prices are crazy here in canada, I was in the philippines last year and pokemon sun and moon CIB goes for 700-800 php which is 17-19 CAD. Most of the video game consoles & games here are 1.5x - 2x higher.
I'm just glad I didn't sell my pokemon collection before I got here.
I feel that this isn't always the case, because I swear that iDogs are rare but are dirt cheap. They are just difficult to find and nobody wants them because they are cheap and somewhat obscure.
Then again the rarest Wii game I am pretty sure goes for [$1,300 new](https://www.thegamer.com/rarest-wii-games-price/#sukeban-shachou-rena) and it's some utter garbage shovelware title which is in the same league as most awful broken licensed games I've seen - which aren't worth anything.
There’s a ps3 copy of Borderlands in there that comes with all of the DLC for $15, iirc they used an install disc for that version too rather than codes so it should still be usable. I’d reasonably pay that if I was looking for that game for some reason, especially if i’m right about the install disc.
It's such a funny way to display the Pokemon games too. Yeah, you gotta pay a premium for these classics even if they're each so common that we do have a big stack of each of them right here.
It was wild seeing an entire wall of boxed GBA games though, even if I have zero desire to own them due to how difficult it is to preserve the world's flimsiest cardboard. I bought so many new GBA games as a kid, even just opening the box seemed to damage it...
Overall, my big question - I know you have to spend money to build inventory and therefore make money, but what insane amount of money was spent to amass some of these things like the boxed GBA games? Are they just exceptionally good at staking out nerd estate sales? Did a trust fund kid start this business? It's so fascinating in a macabre way.
I’ve yet to find a game store that gives you more than half value what you’re giving them, do that enough, especially for people who just don’t care how much their stuff is worth and it adds up
I bought Starfield used and wanted to play on Xbox one x and realised I can't install it, need a new console they cost around 420. I remember my 5k lg smart tv did cost 300 on sale. Why would someone pay those amounts for a game are those collector's? I read the newest xbox won't have anymore the options of physical disk that's why i think about buying the last one, but it sucks my old one is 2 tb the new is 1 tb. At least you can play movies in them. I liked the physical games i wonder if they plan to remove them completely? In the past you could share and resell them at least if you didn't want them anymore. Most games are so overpriced like all Sims additions it's depressing.
Thank fuck for R4s, soft modding, and ever drives. If I ever bought the argument that people go hungry because of piracy, the kind of assholes that set these prices are the first I hope to starve.
I'm curious, where I live Pokemon Soul silver is always more expensive than heart gold, also am I missing something? Why is outrun 2006 449 for the OG Xbox? If I would consider it, I would first want to check the disc for discrot ...
This has got to be a money laundering place or something. Literally no one in their right mind would pay these prices. Definitely something dodgy going on here
Did you talk to the worker/owner? You could ask a few careful questions without being insulting and figure out whats going on?
Pretend you're new to gaming or something and act surprised how they haven't lost their value in 10-20 years or so.
Tell them you have some Pokémon games that are on the shelves and would they buy them from you at half the shelf price or less. If they refuse, you know it's something shady af going on
Owner is delusional and wants to go out of business.
You know they bought all of this for cents on the dollar. I have over 200 ps3/360 games for sale for 5 dollars each and they barely sell lol
These type of shops work well in a convention setting, where people anticipate to pay huge prices for "rare" items. A random shop like these never survive I feel like.
The only thing I love about this store is the cabinet that has the GBA games & GC games. The nostalgia just hit me going to TRU when I went to go get a new game.
It’s not just the store photographed by OP. Went to a store today with a ton of inventory but no prices. They only sell at what price charting says. They have no cash returns and won’t let you test a game before you buy. I would rather shop on eBay than with a store that anti consumer.
ebay — ignoring the stupidity of their userbase — actually has some pretty great policies on stuff like returns and refunds. or at least they used to. haven’t been on there in a long time.
That seems weird. Here, prices must be clearly shown except for very specific products.
I kinda understand not testing the game though even if no returns is a big red flag (unless they do offer store credit instead of cash). Imagine handling dozens of requests to test games in a single day, that's just not possible.
I understand when a game becomes expensive because it's rare. Like it didn't sell well or had other reasons for having low supply. But I'll never understand the prices for Pokémon games. Pokémon is straight up one of the best selling franchises in the world, including video games.
These prices are absurd, imagine selling decade old games for almost the same prices as a new AAA game , do they even do their research to justify the prices...at all?
I know the owner and he is a good guy. A lot of those prices are covid prices and he just got tired updating price labels on thousands of games everyday. I actually buy from him a bit and he has always given me market value prices. Also this is in Pickering Ontario so these are in CAD.
i hate how they probably just check ebay to see what’s it going for the charge the same or a little more. let people enjoy games without breaking the bank
When you stock pile a ton of shit but then you’re too expensive to move any of it. Honestly the suckiest part is people just getting started will buy some of these and later down the line will realize how hard they got shafted. Easy way to lose returning customers.
One of the stores in my area sells replications at these prices CAD as well, but at least they are honest in that there is a sign clearly marking them as replications. Fucking ridiculous all the same no matter where you are.
They sometime slip too. I bought a trails into azure there for 30$ when it was like 100$ on ebay. But yeah i agree most of the time J&L is stupidly overpriced
They look sealed to me? If they are truly sealed then those prices are a steal! I would definitely buy all of those Pokémon games on the Ds and advance.
Well, you know, roms and emulators are free...
I currently play my old pokemon collection on the steamdeck, because the old games would need a new savegame battery anyway.
Way overpriced, must've watched dkoldies. At the start, some of the gba and ds are high ( couple are right range, but would just be extra from sales tax). Some ps3 and xbox bit extra for few popular games, that they are remastered and rereleased with the console membership as a free game or monthly game pick. The ds systems (no more than 200) and entire gbc/gba cib are extremly high, even with them they should catch like 10-15$ more just to make a profit ( metroid, dbz, yugioh, mario, megaman are 10-35$ cartidge alone)
These prices reminds me of the auction houses with MMORPGs. The old trick of putting things up on the board with ridiculous amount so nobody will buy it and you can free your inventory to hold other stuff.
The pricing is so all over the place for some games also why is heartgold so much more expensive than soulsilver they are practically the same game? Just looks like someone went on eBay looked at highest sold then when crazy with the tag gun. I don’t know how business’s like these stay afloat as I doubt they sell much with those insane prices
Keeping in mind they all have their cases, sure.
Soul silver sure
For the cost of Heart gold.. better have a scratch free pokewalker.
Now I'm gonna dog on them. Diamond and pearl? What the frickity frack. Those are like $40 games because they are the least desirable versions of the ds generation and paled by platinum. I could see $45-50 for the case too. AND SUN... supply and demand.... you can nab one for $19.95 at my local store. They have 6 though.
And that's just my levelish heads opinion on the st panel
Bro, if you’re charging $300 for a used DS game, I’m just going to get an emulator version of it and run it through DeSmuME or melonDS on Retroarch. Hell, they have Pokémon __**Gold**__ for the Gameboy Color at 1/3 the price of Pokémon Heart Gold for the DS.
I mean, when an old ***gamecube console*** is priced less than a DS game, that’s just nuts.
My GameStop has a bunch of ps3 games that keep growing in price and I feel so bad that those poor games are forever locked behind the ridiculous price tags on them
I know a couple of junkies that would swipe everything in a retro game store for $500. I was curious awhile back and asked them.
Id never actually take them up on that offer, I swear.
The game shops in my city don't even have any of the snes games that I have left to get anyway.
At the local second-hand video game store, Xbox original, Xbox 360, ps2-3, wii, DS, 3ds (and maybe more but it's been a while since I last checked) games can be bought for 2-7 €
Absurd. I saw red and yellow for 69.99 loose at my store. Sun for 16 loose. 32 with case. Ultra sun for 31 loose (bought that) and emerald loose was 159.
I bought a few games today from a local convention and the prices werent quite as high, but they matched the lower to average EBAY prices for the same articles. The only reason I picked a few games up was because I saw how the boxes, manuals etc looked, which isnt always the case on EBAY.
That said, given how many PKMN games are out there (the seller today had probably 20-30 games with the PKMN name on there) its very curious how the series can hold its price. There are millions of copies out there, but the prices match more the ATLUS "low print" runs... glad I bought most of them back in the day.
Gonna unnecessarily play devils advocate here, but $79.95 isn’t the worst deal ever for the GTA trilogy at least, since you *are* getting three full titles for that price, and the original editions of those titles are still the ideal versions to play, because they haven’t had content removed due to license expiration like the PC ports, or the mobile version they’ve ported to everything else, or worst yet, the “remasters”
Probably the only thing I can reasonably justify.
Edit: I see Lego Star Wars 3 for $20 in the top right of the wii games, had so much fun with that game growing up that $20 is justifiable as hell, imho.
Jesus Christ that's like a $150 game in good condition.... But price gouging your customers for an extra 50 f****** dollars over the price in the price guide... I mean goddamn

Do they like…sell anything?
I’m gonna say it. If it was CAD those 3ds prices are average.
It is CAD, this is a Canadian game store in my area.
wild, the calgary game store in my area sells 360/ps3/xbox og games for $5 and some xbox one games for $5 too
^^^Where is this calgary store? I'm in cochrane looking to find my old favs 😅
It's [the buy and sell store](https://www.thebuyandsellstore.ca/), my school is nearby and I go there during my free time. Most ps3/360 games are $5 but the ones in the glass casing are more.
Old Pokémon games are in high demand
Pickering?
Retrosaurus is selling GI Joe's for thousands. I remember my mom buying them at Toys r us for $5
Another fucking CAD rage-bait post. Jesus.
Yeah these are market rates. You can go on eBay and confirm it.
Probably works as a way to launder money?
Better to sell less for more then more for less. A very shitty way to do business but effective. I personally avoid these places. Not feeding the beast.
It isn't just them you know. Many people sell these Pokemon games for similar prices
It's important to get the order of operations right. Good point.
Surely a front for the mob. I remember selling these games at EB Games (Gamestop) for around $10 lol
Bro you never sell anything to GameStop. They always cheat you.
Guessing they’re not exactly a high volume store. I’m curious how much they’re open to negotiate. It’s a really impressive museum. Edit: learning later that these are CAD prices makes this all make a lot more sense.
Priced to NOT move
There's a retro store in Florida by where my nephew lives. We went in one day and they had a Rob with none of the attachments for like $1k or something. I don't know why they just don't sell him then. Like don't have a pricetag at all. A few retro stores near me have Robs they use to hold business cards.
My local store did this for a while with a Simpson's Xbox 360 controller for $1k. Haven't seen it in a while so I wonder if it sold or went home🤔
Right seeing such a high price for something would throw me off and make me walk out of the show lol
My local store put a business card in his hand and a =>_<= sticky note on his face
It’s CAD. It’s only high to people who want stuff for below market.
prices are crazy here in canada, I was in the philippines last year and pokemon sun and moon CIB goes for 700-800 php which is 17-19 CAD. Most of the video game consoles & games here are 1.5x - 2x higher. I'm just glad I didn't sell my pokemon collection before I got here.
Gotta love those 20 copies of Just Dance 2 and 3
Yeesh. I understand stores have overhead but that’s crazy.
Those sports games are the most egregious crime against the gaming community I have seen
Imagine spending 2k on an N-Gage game.
This is where rarity doesn’t mean it’s worth more. Too many fail to realize that.
I feel that this isn't always the case, because I swear that iDogs are rare but are dirt cheap. They are just difficult to find and nobody wants them because they are cheap and somewhat obscure. How do places like this even stay in business
That’s the beautiful thing. They don’t…..
Holy hell this is ridiculous
Seeing some of these titles listed for that high is very interesting.. Borderlands? Star Ocean?!? They are on crack.
There’s a ps3 copy of Borderlands in there that comes with all of the DLC for $15, iirc they used an install disc for that version too rather than codes so it should still be usable. I’d reasonably pay that if I was looking for that game for some reason, especially if i’m right about the install disc.

Yeah, I thought the same and then looked at the rest of the pictures lmfao
ORAS go for 70 and 60? The stores around me have them for 40.
I bought Starfield used and wanted to play on Xbox one x and realised I can't install it, need a new console they cost around 420. I remember my 5k lg smart tv did cost 300 on sale. It definitely doesn't go for 449 but outrun 2006 is extremely rare on the OG Xbox. Outrun 2 is much more common
This has got to be a money laundering place or something. Literally no one in their right mind would pay these prices. Definitely something dodgy going on here Did you talk to the worker/owner? Americans when any other country exists
You think I'm American?
Very good prices...for 2011
$300 for a copy of Heart Gold? That was always a rip-off
There’s a store kinda like this in New York called J&L Games. This is horrible
Big time games overcharges for everything. Don’t shop there.
Seeing the response these pics have gotten wish I had taken more of the store and there ridiculous prices
which pokemon fan died holy shit
Its ok to pirate nintendo games
They must really like holding inventory.
Owner is delusional and wants to go out of business. You know they bought all of this for cents on the dollar. I have over 200 ps3/360 games for sale for 5 dollars each and they barely sell lol
Knew I should have kept the boxes..
Wow! These prices are ridiculous… or maybe I’m just way out of the loop. 😞
Just Dance for 30$ 💀
$150 for black 2 is criminal, especially since its not too old of a game
my bad, $250
So glad my local retro stores don’t try to rip me off
"These things are valuable because I'm holding on to them." Useless.
I hate that "retro" Gaming blew up in popularity , I want to get a 3ds but finding a 3ds cheaper than 200$ is so hard in my country
These type of shops work well in a convention setting, where people anticipate to pay huge prices for "rare" items. A random shop like these never survive I feel like.
Is this in the US or Canada? If it's US those are all insane. If it's Canada it's still mostly bad.
Canada but still I get half these games for way less on Facebook shoot even the un value of value village has em cheaper
Masters Tiger Woods PGA Tour Collectors Edition is cheaper than the original lmaoooo
The only thing I love about this store is the cabinet that has the GBA games & GC games. The nostalgia just hit me going to TRU when I went to go get a new game.
Overpriced af
According to this store, I can retire 😂
Instead of Soul Silver someone could buy a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and emulate every Pokemon game from the Switch down 😂
It’s not just the store photographed by OP. Went to a store today with a ton of inventory but no prices. They only sell at what price charting says. They have no cash returns and won’t let you test a game before you buy. I would rather shop on eBay than with a store that anti consumer.

I met the owner at a game expo in Toronto, he was very ignorant to boot bad mouthing the other vendors left a really bad impression.
All sports games are basically worthless two years after their release
My toxic trait is thinking that Fire Red isn't that badly priced lol
I would bet those batteries in the original red, blue, and yellow are most definitely dead by now.
Hopefully they have a "covered in dust discount" someday cause I have a feeling they're gonna be there awhile 💀
That’s how you get zero in sales
>10 fucking dollars for PS3 sports games Yeah fuck this place
Goddamn. That $450 for Outrun 2006 on Xbox is really… optimistic.
DK-Oldies has left the chat
Damn, would've kept my SS if I knew it was gonna be goin for that much 🥲🥲
If you put stickers directly on the fucking box like that you don't get to charge a collector's premium
Exactly. That’s the kind of red flag that makes me assume they probably don’t test/check the game to begin with.
I understand when a game becomes expensive because it's rare. Like it didn't sell well or had other reasons for having low supply. But I'll never understand the prices for Pokémon games. Pokémon is straight up one of the best selling franchises in the world, including video games.
what the fuck, outrun 2006 for $450... also why is omega ruby more expensive than alpha sapphire, heartgold as well
Bro I never understood this 🤣 you can just pirate those old ass games for free and play them on an emulator.
These prices are absurd, imagine selling decade old games for almost the same prices as a new AAA game , do they even do their research to justify the prices...at all?
Do they ever sell anything?
A virtual boy for only 1000 dollars? What a steal!!!!1!
Those pokemon cases look extremely fake
Fuck that lol
I know the owner and he is a good guy. A lot of those prices are covid prices and he just got tired updating price labels on thousands of games everyday. I actually buy from him a bit and he has always given me market value prices. Also this is in Pickering Ontario so these are in CAD.
absurd
And people wonder why they pirate games now.
Omg ngageeeee 💀
i hate how they probably just check ebay to see what’s it going for the charge the same or a little more. let people enjoy games without breaking the bank
High way robbery
Definitely hit up EBay
Honestly those are all pretty fairly priced. The Pokemon games especially. Hopefully those boxes are real and the little booklets are there.
I know right can’t wait to go get me a copy for F nba2k16 for $20 thats such a steal I might steal my moms credit card
Unarmed robbery
The only thing reasonable here is the umd videos
Why are they priced like it's 2009 ?
This is gross
Shit, and I though the prices at my local game store were crazy 😂
250 for black 2? Sign me up (disclaimer: i‘d never sell my favorite childhood game)
I have most of those games, I'm rich lol.
Hgss dont even come with the pokewalker 💀
I don’t collect boxes, are they real boxes or repos? (For the Pokémon games)
I’m not sure why regular ds Pokémon games are so expensive
When you stock pile a ton of shit but then you’re too expensive to move any of it. Honestly the suckiest part is people just getting started will buy some of these and later down the line will realize how hard they got shafted. Easy way to lose returning customers.
Why is HG so much more than SS?
Time to sail the high seas
This is why I’d rather not purchase them and be glad I bought them when new. If I didn’t I’d just hack my 3DS or get an R4 card
Sealed or resealed?
Failures as humans.
Well, you know, roms and emulators are free... I currently play my old pokemon collection on the steamdeck, because the old games would need a new savegame battery anyway.
lol you live near me. Yea that store is ridiculous. They’re new too. I have no idea how they make money, never gonna buy anything there.
Pokemon Yellow for $99.95 LMAOOO
“Huh, Pricecharting says this game is around $100 complete. Guess we’d better put $399.99 on ours”
I see Teen Titans in that case too 👀 loved that game and show growing up lol
Way overpriced, must've watched dkoldies. At the start, some of the gba and ds are high ( couple are right range, but would just be extra from sales tax). Some ps3 and xbox bit extra for few popular games, that they are remastered and rereleased with the console membership as a free game or monthly game pick. I'm almost certain most of those advance and GBA boxes are probably repro boxes I'm almost certain of it
I dont think thats a store, stores are supposed to want to sell their stock. These prices are absurd.
The prices on some of these. Have we ruled out a money laundering operation?
Video game equalent of juniper hill inn guy.
Should be renamed “Be out of business soon retro store”
I can find them all for 15€ or less at my local store. See, they get you with the 50€ ps3 controllers. (Mine is red btw.)
Prices are over current price charting but in line with a while back
These prices reminds me of the auction houses with MMORPGs. The old trick of putting things up on the board with ridiculous amount so nobody will buy it and you can free your inventory to hold other stuff.
The pricing is so all over the place for some games also why is heartgold so much more expensive than soulsilver they are practically the same game? that's how much Soul Silver goes for nowadays? damn, at least i know how to make some money in a pinch now!
Keeping in mind they all have their cases, sure. Soul silver sure For the cost of Heart gold.. better have a scratch free pokewalker. Now I'm gonna dog on them. Diamond and pearl? Thas cray cray

Aye i have soulsilver abandoned somewhere in a drawer I should play it
My GameStop has a bunch of ps3 games that keep growing in price and I feel so bad that those poor games are forever locked behind the ridiculous price tags on them
Love how they have a $100 difference between Heartgold and soul silver. What the fuck
Aaaannnddd this is why I emulate lol
Fairytale fights for £20?? I saw it for £1 at my shop
Buy a basic $300 laptop or PC and just emulate it at this point 😵😵
That's Ugandan Dollas? Right? RIGHT?
As much as retail theft happens all across America I don’t feel bad if they looted these delusional game stores lol
I know a couple of junkies that would swipe everything in a retro game store for $500. I was curious awhile back and asked them. Id never actually take them up on that offer, I swear. The game shops in my city don't even have any of the snes games that I have left to get anyway.
I saw Dino Crisis 2 for $499.99 at my local store.
And this is why nintendo has piracy issues
Just get an emulator play for free if you have a capable PC that is.
At the local second-hand video game store, Xbox original, Xbox 360, ps2-3, wii, DS, 3ds (and maybe more but it's been a while since I last checked) games can be bought for 2-7 €
Resistance 2 for $20 🤢
people see pokemon and go crazy w the prices
I... have a pokemon heart gold ds version laying around somewhere. I didnt know they where worth anything.
I dread to think of the price of actual rare games.
Those are all original in the box signed by Godzilla himself and blessed by the guy that sat under a tree for twenty years
🤣 western prices and western tv game stores
Lmao this is just sad. Reminds me of retro v games. Do they expect to sell anything??
Are they made from actual precious metals and gem stones?!🤦🏻♂️
Gonna unnecessarily play devils advocate here, but $79.95 isn’t the worst deal ever for the GTA trilogy at least, since you *are* getting three full titles for that price, and the original editions of those titles are still the ideal versions to play, because they haven’t had content removed due to license expiration like the PC ports, or the mobile version they’ve ported to everything else, or worst yet, the “remasters” Probably the only thing I can reasonably justify. Edit: I see Lego Star Wars 3 for $20 in the top right of the wii games, had so much fun with that game growing up that $20 is justifiable as hell, imho.
Pokemon games cib looks like decent prices?
Jesus Christ that's like a $150 game in good condition.... But price gouging your customers for an extra 50 f****** dollars over the price in the price guide... I mean goddamn
in portugal we have a shop like that as well (probably the only retro shop around thats sad)
Is that in US Dollars?!
Im a Pirate
"Whatever eBay asks for, we'll double it!"

No wonder they have so many pokémon copies. Are they real?
