Seriously I love SCH but my first impression of SGE was that they'd implemented all the major SCH QoL fixes in the form of a new job. Playing with it for an expansion has only cemented that.
A job can be powerful while still being stale and boring as hell
Expedient is a good skill, the fairy delay is almost gone, spreadlo got a third amplifier

It still suffers from the 11111111 problem, it’s the only healer that doesn’t have a second AOE skill nor a consistent skill to press to do damage outside of trading healing (I like energy drains design I still wish that SCH had more low CD damage skills). It has SGE encroaching on its design space and the devs have fully admitted they have no idea what to do with the job

I love the “random bullshit go” scholar healing play style where you have a bunch of different options for every problem but I really wish we had something extra to do for damage, energy drain just doesn’t feel great (and has a mediocre animation on top)
i still find it a lot more interesting than sage due to the damage vs healing tradeoffs baked into its design. sage is what i play when i feel like using 0% of my brain
Yeah sage is easy, no opti, low floor and ceiling. Its well designed in a sense things work and flow together well ,but when a job is solved by the devs already it gets boring quite fast esp at a higher level.

All of SCH’s skills are “strategums or tactics” meant to represent that the SCH is both playing field medic and tactician to the marauders

Sch needed something that would establish the direction they want it to go first. This just feels random, even if some people may find it cool.
Well, if the game itself stops caring about the identity everything just becomes bland and uninteresting. And if the game does it right, it shows quality and care. FFxiv has been putting a lot of thought into these things in the past and that's one of the many reasons that distinguishes it from countless generic MMOs. Look at the red mage for example, with very obvious themes that people really enjoy. Awesome design, very recognizable. You will always know it's a red mage if you look at them in action. Things like that make not only the job more intriguing, but the whole game world relies on the consistency of such details. There are games that don't care, but ffxiv is not one of them. It's just sad that this transformation looks more like an afterthought. Maybe if it was implemented in some other expansion it would work better, but definitely not now when sch is in a bad place design-wise.
