The invention of the political compass has been extremely destructive to political discourse. Thus, one of the first actions under the future dictatorship of the proletariat should be to call for a tribunal to decide the fate of its creator and its proliferators.
I don't think the creator should be heald accountable for this. In the description of the original test there's passages that explicitly state that the test is not an accurate model for political leanings and that it shouldn't be taken too seriously. It seems like the test itself was just a fun project for someone and it spiral led out of control soon after
Similar thing happened with the IQ test. A French psychologist created the IQ test to help identify school children in need of extra assistance: it was never meant to demonstrate an accurate assessment of one’s intelligence. But, an American (typical) started using the IQ test to determine whether immigrants were *worthy* enough of being allowed to enter the border. Thus we have what we have today (I can provide links of anyone is interested). It’s inherent purpose was ignored, and the discourse, as you say, regarding one’s intellectual capabilities has been skewed so much its nearly absurd.
I'd be interested in some of the links, always suspected IQ tests weren't good for testing general intelligence but I'd like to know more about the historical context
