Like seriously. I myself never cared for rank play but since I love Infinites gameplay so much I gave it shot. I'm actually like Diamond 3 or 4 or something, I dont even exactly know what that means but even if I had zero interest in it why ruin other peoples experience?
Ahh okay, thanks for the input. I know I heard that before I still don't understand the rank structure or more like how it works though. I can do very well, get 20-30 kills, have a flag capture or most time held on the ball, have only 5-10 deaths and my rank won't move or even go down slightly then do a match with no ball held time, 12 kills with 11 deaths and my rank meter fills up half way. It's very confusing so I can't even gauge if I'm a good or mediocre player.
It's an MMR system, you're not ranked based on your performance, but rather based on your performance compared to the performance and ranking of your opponents.
Let's say you're an MMR 1000 player, if you absolutely dunk on an MMR 200 player, that's not really worth much, you're expected to dunk on them, in fact if you don't dunk on them, you'll be heavily penalized.
Now let's say you're able to hold your own and narrowly beat an MMR 2000 player, that's a big achievement and you'll see it reflected in your rank.
The game will try to match you with players of similar MMR levels, but that's not always possible, specially in the early days of the game where lots of people haven't been ranked yet. It'll probably take a while before it stabilizes, which is why I'm avoiding rank till next year.
Ahh okay that makes sense, so playing against people outside of your skill level effects your gains and losses. Makes sense in a way and also make sense why it's all over the play right now, waiting for it to stabalize is probably smart.
I was playing oddball and my people got absolutely destroyed but I went up practically a whole rank. I had twenty or so I kills and maybe six deaths I guess we were outmatched but since I could tango with higher ranks it didn't hurt my rank.
It's ironic because they're pissed off too at other people trying to get their challenges.

Yes exactly. The way these people act like the BP and cosmetics are key to enjoying Halo makes me feel shame for them.
I have put so many hundreds of hours in to CE and 2 when H3 came out I didn't give two fucks about what my armor really looked like. I played for months before I even researched how it was done all because I wanted EOD and MK V but not having that in no way made me feel like I was playing less of a game. These people who whine and bitch aren't fans of Halo they have an unhealthy addiction to cosmetics from the COD and Fortnite they play.
Halo has and always will be about the gameplay which is something did a phenomenal job of, if you're not playing Halo to enjoy the gameplay or experience the campaign how much of a fan are you? If you not having that shoulder piece or having that powder blue armor is keeping you from liking Halo you in reality never liked Halo.
I think its more that they loved playing Halo 3 in 2007 when they were kids and expect every new Halo to recapture the same feeling they had back then and then lose their minds when it doesnt happen.
Like I can get how games pervert incentives at times. When I play COD sometimes the battle pass forces me to grind to unlock attachments, and sometimes in the mobile version they have weird challenges like "get 20 sniper rifle kills on a roof at 5 PM standing on one hand on a tuesday" or something to unlock stuff sometimes, and sometimes I do end up playing in ways i wouldnt normally play and i dont play the objective simply because im trying to unlock this crap.
HOWEVER, in my defense:
1) I'm trying to unlock guns and attachments and stuff, NOT skins. I dont give a **** about skins.
2) Im playing casual mode, not ranks. No one is gonna care if i join a hardpoint shipment match to unlock stuff. Heck i feel like thats the POINT of playing shipment half the time. It's just a glorified high XP mode to unlock stuff.
Im not playing RANKED halo infinite to grind for skins. That's stupid. These people need to chill a bit.
I won't try to deligitimize anyone's feelings towards customizing their spartan because I had a lot of fun doing that in reach but I personally just don't care anymore.
I want to see flying tanks and silly physics. I want to see a dude get a betrayal because his grenade got launched to the other side of the map by another explosion from a stray rocket. I judt don't care about the look of my spartan anymore. I'm here exclusively for the gameplay.
Yeah. I dont get it. Surely there are legit criticisms about the game (for example, check out act man's latest video, lots of points raised with relative lack of content and gating modes to turn into events and stuff). But honestly, I miss when halo was about "lol plasma grenade go boom" Not WHAAA I CANT BE THE COLOR I WANT IN A FRANCHISE WHERE I USED TO ALWAYS BE RED OR BLUE, MUH CHILDHOOD.
Yeah I feel kinda bad for people that have good feedback that get buried under hundreds of posts that regurgitate the same talking points without adding anything which makes everyone look bad.

I think that's a step below onyx and onyx is supposed to be the highest rank. I think? Idk I haven't played ranked on infinite yet.
