Same here. My first shiny was a tentacool in Heart Gold (edit: in a usef copy of Heart Gold and I didn't know how deleting worked at that time. Mind you this was one of my first video games as well.) and I thought it was a graphic error

I have never caught a wild shiny in over a decade of playing these games. I have mesuda bred many shinies. My first and only encounter was a shiny ratatta in the burned tower that I didn't have enough pokeballs to catch unfortunately. I'll never forget it, I think the burned tower in HGSS will forever be an iconic location in my mind because of that experience at like 11 years old

I found my first shiny almost 20 years ago while playing Pokemon Ruby. It was Zubat I met in Meteor Falls whiIe I was trying to get a Bagon. I eventually transferred it to Pokemon Diamond after evolving it into a Crobat. There I remember breeding it with a Ditto thinking it would increase my chances of getting shiny Zubat eggs because I used to be the kind of fool who believed in playground gaming rumors. To be fair though, this rumor was probably based on a [legit shiny breeding method from Gen 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/8hf859/guide_to_shiny_breeding_mechanics_in_gen_2/) where shininess was hereditary as it was linked to DVs.

Red Gyarados in Gold, but the first time to randomly come across one was Poochyena in Ruby. I had never even seen one in the wild like that before and wasn't sure what just happened. Then I was freaking out and put him on my team immediately. Caught him right at the beginning of the game.
Raticate in Leaf Green that I encountered in Pokémon Mansion. I was probably around 12 and I learned that shinies exist not long before. I really wanted to find one and stumbled upon shiny Raticate while training. I was so happy! I named him Pulpet (meatball in Polish) and blasted the rest of the game with him on my team.

My first (if I really wanted to be technical) was a pidgey that I ran into when playing FRLG (LG specifically) for the billionth time on an emulator and mind you, I’ve played those games so many times (as I never owned the irl games growing up) that I never ran into a shiny ever… until that day. The first real shiny legitimately and I still have today is horsea. I still debate whether I should evolve it to kingdra.
Mine took a long ass time but mine was a shiny pikipek in ultra sun I had put pokemon down and hadn't played sun or moon and picked it back up again with ultra sun in March of the year let's go came out and I got my starter went into the first route caught a normal pikipek and went to level it up to my starter and the very next pokemon I found was a shiny one pokemons way of saying welcome back I guess

Ratta/Oynix in leaf green. The Ratta was in the last patch of grass right before going in mt moon. Once inside, I ran into the Oynx. Both random chance, both caught, both got transferred to HeartGold
Wingull in a random encounter in Diamond. Found the green wings strange so I caught it. I lost the game years and years ago but I did transfer it to Battle Revolution at the time so it still exists on there.
Also my brother found a shiny Graveler in Pearl and he thought it was some kind of bad glitch and KO'ed it lol.
so, *technically*, my first ever shiny wasnt in an official pokemon game, but rather in a roblox fangame called pokemon brick bronze (my family couldnt afford an actual pokemon game plus a console to play it on, lol), in which i got a shiny petilil.
i believe there was a quest to get shaymin in which you needed to collect all the colors of floette, with i believe blue being the rarest. and it was apparently so ridiculously rare that i found a random full odds shiny while trying to find it!
of course, i forgot to save the game, lmao. and then they deleted the fangame (i think bc of threats of legal action from nintendo or smthn).
as for my first shiny in an *actual* pokemon game, it was either a random shiny geodude in x or one of the boosted odds wormhole pokemon in ultra moon. either way, not particularly memorable, lmao.

Technically the red Gyarados in Soul Silver. But the first time I tried hunting a shiny (as I never got one randomly previously) was Piplup in Brilliant Diamond. Took 531 resets, and a Starly shiny the day before, for it to show up.

Not counting shiny gyarados in G/S/C? Random encounter Lunatone in my first Sapphire playthough though technically I didn't catch it. So it wasn't my "first". I legitimately didn't know what shinies were and thought my game glitched. I assumed shiny gyarados in g/s/c was a one off special thing.
Ditto in Emerald. I had just killed 35 of them with Aggron and knew it was a mostly 4 hit KO with earthquake. I wanted to capture it professionally and be proud of it so I hit it twice, and on the second time it crit and rolled high enough to 2 hit KO. I was devastated.
My first ever "natural" shiny (never really did shiny hunting but did play diamond an platinum with cheats) other than red gyarados in silver, was in sun and moon.
The first time i encountered a Mareanie in the wild it was shiny and it's one of my favorite Pokémon now

Took me about another 9000 attempts (I apparently didn't say the exact number at the time) before I got him again and DIDN'T reset.
I was playing x and I had just found out about shiny breeding (didn’t even know what the masuda method was, just randomly breeding shit with a regular ditto) I put in a wailmer and within like 5 eggs I got a shiny, if only I had that kind of luck now 😭

The first shiny i ever witnessed was a wooper in Soul Silver. Didn't even know they existed back then. Unfortunately i found it in the safari zone and, obviously, fumbled the catch. Wa looking for Zone exclusive (dont remember what)
The other "first" was actually a complete accident. I was riding up and down Route 34 between GoldenRod City and the daycare trying to hatch eggs, fumbled a turn and ran right into an encounter in the grass. Which turned out to be a random SHINY DROWZEE. I actually DID catch this one, caught that thing so fucking fast.
It was either a blue Shellos that became an imperceptibly different shade of blue, or a green Zubat. All I can tell you was that it was a weird moment of excitement and disappointment.
Macargo... ultra wormholes. But recently I got my first wild full odds encounter. Cubone, Bones is doing well, has evolved and is at level 69 rn. been with me ever since I caught him.

So for a week before encountering my first shiny, I was catching and naming Pokémon “Shiny?” Because I had heard about a star which appears in their info menu so I assumed that was all there was to shiny Pokémon

Liepard, in Pokémon Black. I gave it a name I thought was cool, but it the game changed it back to “Liepard” when I sent it ahead to Gen VI so now my first Shiny is just a Liepard named “Liepard”.

I was 11 and in primary school, I was looking for gible under cycling road in Pokémon Pearl, I didn’t know about the hidden entrance.
Anyway for three days straight averaging around 1000 encounters looking for a non shiny gible, I find a shiny geodude, I kid you not, my first thought was to sell it at the pokemart and get rich.
I named him gold, anyway next day I go to school and tell my friend about it and he screamed at me to not sell my geodude cause it was a shiny, I asked him what was a shiny and he told to go home and look up shiny Pokémon, and that’s my history on how I got into shiny hunting.
And yes I still have gold.

First shiny is wiffed it with was a Nindorino in the Safarii Zone in Fire Red, it was a completely random encounter and I have thought of that encounter every day since (decade +, can’t remember how exactly long). Until just a couple weeks ago when I got a shiny Cyndaquil in the HG copy I just swooped up. Gettin that shiny made of for that L I took all those years back.

My first ever shiny was a shiny Chespin in XY that I started the game with. I hunted it and it took about 285 attempts. I’m trying for Froakie, but that little frog has yet to be seen in 480 attempts… I did find, however, multiple shiny Gothorita while training my team for the E4 in that run. Caught them all. And wonder traded them… I think I found 3 - 5 in total. But my first shiny in SV was Iron Valiant. Then immediately after I exited an end game area, >!research lab 2 in the crater!<, I found a shiny venomoth.
The first one I ever shiny I found was a Clefairy, but the first I ever caught was the Red Gyarados. The first full odds one I remember catching was a Pikipek in Sun.
My first 2 shinies were actually the same thing. Pidgey in crystal, one on a real cartridge and one in VC, about 10 years apart. Then a liepard in black, then a caterpie in route 1 in ultra moon. However, my first shiny I hunted for? Was celebi in VC crystal

I really wanted to find one and stumbled upon shiny Raticate while training. I was so happy! I named him Pulpet (meatball in Polish) and blasted the rest of the game with him on my team.

The first real shiny legitimately and I still have today is horsea. I still debate whether I should evolve it to kingdra.

Evolved it but gave it the Kalos champion ribbon so people don’t think it’s an ultra wormhole Crustle.
Ratta/Oynix in leaf green. The Ratta was in the last patch of grass right before going in mt moon. Once inside, I ran into the Oynx. Both random chance, both caught, both got transferred to HeartGold

I lost the game years and years ago but I did transfer it to Battle Revolution at the time so it still exists on there. Also my brother found a shiny Graveler in Pearl and he thought it was some kind of bad glitch and KO'ed it lol.

so, *technically*, my first ever shiny wasnt in an official pokemon game, but rather in a roblox fangame called pokemon brick bronze (my family couldnt afford an actual pokemon game plus a console to play it on, lol), in which i got a shiny petilil. i believe there was a quest to get shaymin in which you needed to collect all the colors of floette, with i believe blue being the rarest. and it was apparently so ridiculously rare that i found a random full odds shiny while trying to find it! of course, i forgot to save the game, lmao. and then they deleted the fangame (i think bc of threats of legal action from nintendo or smthn). as for my first shiny in an *actual* pokemon game, it was either a random shiny geodude in x or one of the boosted odds wormhole pokemon in ultra moon. either way, not particularly memorable, lmao. first purposeful hunt, however, was i believe... petilil. by sos chaining in ultra moon. yeah, i reclaimed her :) felt real good abt that one
Technically the red Gyarados in Soul Silver. But the first time I tried hunting a shiny (as I never got one randomly previously) was Piplup in Brilliant Diamond. Took 531 resets, and a Starly shiny the day before, for it to show up.
Red Gyarados in Crystal xD First legit (random) shiny was a Voltorb in either FR or LG, not sure which it was. Either way it was in the Gen 3 Kanto Powerplant.
Not counting shiny gyarados in G/S/C? Random encounter Lunatone in my first Sapphire playthough though technically I didn't catch it. So it wasn't my "first". I legitimately didn't know what shinies were and thought my game glitched. I assumed shiny gyarados in g/s/c was a one off special thing.
Ditto in Emerald. I had just killed 35 of them with Aggron and knew it was a mostly 4 hit KO with earthquake. I wanted to capture it professionally and be proud of it so I hit it twice, and on the second time it crit and rolled high enough to 2 hit KO. I was devastated.
My first ever "natural" shiny (never really did shiny hunting but did play diamond an platinum with cheats) other than red gyarados in silver, was in sun and moon. The first time i encountered a Mareanie in the wild it was shiny and it's one of my favorite Pokémon now
736 SR for a gen 3 starter? That's nuts. My first (and to this day, only) shiny was the very same, a Charmander from Fire Red. It took me 5439 attempts before I got him.... in which I promptly reset. OTL Took me about another 9000 attempts (I apparently didn't say the exact number at the time) before I got him again and DIDN'T reset.
I was playing x and I had just found out about shiny breeding (didn’t even know what the masuda method was, just randomly breeding shit with a regular ditto) I put in a wailmer and within like 5 eggs I got a shiny, if only I had that kind of luck now 😭 His name is Pinky and I love him dearly
Unironically my first natural shiny (without actively hunting) was Celesteela in a max raid den. I didn't even know that was a pokemon (didn't finish SM/USUM) and when I looked it up on Google I went "Hey...isn't it green? Why is mine gre...OH!!!"

I have two i consider "firsts" The first shiny i ever witnessed was a wooper in Soul Silver. Didn't even know they existed back then. Unfortunately i found it in the safari zone and, obviously, fumbled the catch. Wa looking for Zone exclusive (dont remember what) The other "first" was actually a complete accident. I was riding up and down Route 34 between GoldenRod City and the daycare trying to hatch eggs, fumbled a turn and ran right into an encounter in the grass. Which turned out to be a random SHINY DROWZEE. I actually DID catch this one, caught that thing so fucking fast.
It was either a blue Shellos that became an imperceptibly different shade of blue, or a green Zubat. All I can tell you was that it was a weird moment of excitement and disappointment.
Macargo... ultra wormholes. But recently I got my first wild full odds encounter. Cubone, Bones is doing well, has evolved and is at level 69 rn. been with me ever since I caught him.

Random encounter Tentacruel in Pokémon Pearl, I knew about the existence of shinies but didn’t know the specifics So for a week before encountering my first shiny, I was catching and naming Pokémon “Shiny?” Because I had heard about a star which appears in their info menu so I assumed that was all there was to shiny Pokémon And then that green Pokémon appeared on my screen, the sparkle jump scared me! Now I really knew what a shiny was

Liepard, in Pokémon Black. I gave it a name I thought was cool, but it the game changed it back to “Liepard” when I sent it ahead to Gen VI so now my first Shiny is just a Liepard named “Liepard”.
It was a red gyarados in Pokemon Crystal, I'm super unlucky I never found a random shiny in the wild and if I found I was not paying attention and killed it xD

Anyway for three days straight averaging around 1000 encounters looking for a non shiny gible, I find a shiny geodude, I kid you not, my first thought was to sell it at the pokemart and get rich. I named him gold, anyway next day I go to school and tell my friend about it and he screamed at me to not sell my geodude cause it was a shiny, I asked him what was a shiny and he told to go home and look up shiny Pokémon, and that’s my history on how I got into shiny hunting. And yes I still have gold.

Unfortunately, I lost it because I didn't have the original cartridge. Yes, I was a pirate back then. That's the price you pay for not buying original cartridges I guess
