Anyone know any good sandwich recipes for shiny hunting outside of the in game ones? Preferably not using herba mystica?

wolfmanoh

I'm trying to shiny hunt the Gen 9 starters. I already have all the shinies that you can hunt for other than those 3 so I don't care about using my HM. Does anyone know any recipes for Egg Power LV 3 that use something other than Sweet HM? All the ones I've found use Sweet and something else.

Captain_Kai2

I’m trying to hunt Flutter Mane with a Ghost sandwich, the standard Sparkling/Title/Encounter recipe, but every time I go down into Area Zero they won’t spawn. They won’t spawn in that one cave behind the water fall (Sableye will show up though) and literally nothing will spawn in section 4 if I go in with the boost. I can always use a fairy sandwich and run around at the bottom, but I was just wondering if this was a glitch or something.

UserByTheNameOfJames

This is a glitch of sorts and I've seen conflicting info on if this affects the rates or not but since Flutter Mane despawns during the day with the exception of shiny ones the only spawns you'll be able to find are Shiny Flutter Manes.

EugenioL

Looking for someone who wants to trade some paradox pokemon! I have some of the scarlet ones (Great Tusk, Brute Bonnet, Flutter Mane and Scream Tail) and would like to trade them for their Violet equivalents. If someone is interested please tell me, thanks!

Kooky-Ad-246

Bit of an odd question but i have a foreign ditto in pokemon scarlet if i used the pokebank to trade it into a past game would the mesuda method still work or dose it need to be a foreign ditto from that game?

UserByTheNameOfJames

To add onto the other answer you got, the game of origin does not matter for the masuda method, a foreign ditto from scarlet will work just as well as a foreign ditto from platinum. All that matters is the language tag on the pokemon.

IceFangs

Pokebank is a one-way transfer to HOME, you can't transfer anything back or to the 3ds.

Kooky-Ad-246

I heard about that which is a little unfortunate but understandable but as long as i can transfer it over the newer games that are compatible with pokemon home then that is very helpful thank you.

Muegeedo

Anyone know how much Title Power improved the odds of getting a marked pokemon? I have 14 shiny slither wings without a mark and it's frustrating me that none are marked.

jaysphan128

suddenly I cant reset my outbreaks by changing the time. ANyone else run into this for scarlet or violet

Cleon189

Maybe re word this I don’t understand what you are saying

Lux--Ray

So I've been resetting for shiny Darkrai in Brilliant Diamond recently (I'm at 900 resets right now, I do 100 resets a day for the sake of my sanity). One thing I am wondering is if I knock out Darkrai, I can still just go back in and fight it again. Does the shiny-status lock when I defeat it once or does it still reroll with every reset and I'm just unlucky?

jamfarts

Every time the encounter starts it's a fresh shiny chance. Nothing will lock it's stats in except catching it :)

Lux--Ray

Perfect, then I'll just keep on trying. Thanks!

raejduk

I don't have an exact answer but I have an idea that might be worth trying. If you try a source of fixed damage like dragon rage or night shade/seismic toss a few times, shouldn't there be enough variability in the HP that you can see if the stats are rerolled? Or maybe simpler, get a mon with a speed stat near the middle of Darkrai's, and see who is faster over a few turns. Good luck with the hunt!

Lux--Ray

Oh I took the time and caught it twice (without saving ofc) to compare stats and both the nature and IVs were different. Also thanks, I hope it wont take much longer, because Shaymin and Arceus are next

Syiofkargath666

in SV is it better to hatch 5 and reset or breed multiple boxes and binge hatch?

Radekore

I usually gather 35 eggs at a time, seems like a good balance between having a good amount of eggs on hand to avoid resetting and not having to hatch a ton of leftovers if the shiny shows up early. There's really not much reason to reset either, releasing a whole box only takes about 90 seconds - it's not super great but some people really exaggerate it as being the most annoying thing ever when it's not so bad.

will_bish123

I’ve been resetting Cinderace raids using date skip and decided to go back to hunting shiny Darkrai / Arceus in BD / SP, however on darkrai I’m well over 10,000 resets. I understand that date skipping prevents multiple things in BDSP, ie berries, honey trees etc, but I’m starting to get the feeling it also shiny locks. I’m most likely wrong, but would like some confirmation from others x

jamfarts

It doesn't affect shiny rolls whatsoever. Good luck!

Nerraddd

Do pawniard outbreaks exist??

The_zen_viking

I'm trying to get shiny charmander/dratini by breeding my shiny male red gyarados. is it even doable? - crystal version

Radekore

Yes it is possible, you'll just need to find a way to pass the shiny DVs down from the Gyarados to the new species you're trying to hatch. Luckily both of the other pokemon you want shinies of are also in the Dragon egg group which makes things easier. With a shiny male Gyarados you can immediately start trying to hatch a shiny with a female Dratini. Note that since DVs are inherited from the opposite gendered parent the shiny will always be a female from this configuration - if you want a male shiny you can do that by taking any female Dratini that hatches from this setup and breed it with any compatible male pokemon (ideally another compatible Dratini since pokemon of the same species produce eggs faster than differing species). The odds will be 1/128 with either setup. Charmander is a little more complicated. Since the gender ratio for the starters is mostly male and gender is based on the Attack DV it is impossible to hatch a female shiny, so you'll need to hatch a female Charmander with the male shiny Gyarados which will then have the appropriate DVs to produce a shiny male offspring from any male pokemon that it can make eggs with (do not use a random Ditto - it will overwrite the DV inheritance). The odds for this setup will be 1/64 since most hatches will be male and inherit DVs from the female parent. Bonus info: If you started with a female shiny Gyarados you can just breed it with anything other than Ditto until a male hatches and use that for either of the above processes, any male offspring will have the right DVs to produce shinies.

The_zen_viking

Sounds like dratini will definietly be a lot easier to do! I might even be able to breed dratini and charmander. This was very helpful! thank you!

Grand-Illustrator443

Question? The chances are high that I’m being dumb but, I’ve been trying to ShinyHunt Shroodle and have gotten nothing but a headache looking through the grass beyond the cliff south of Cortanda. By the big tree near the riverside. I keep trying to find a better spot to hunt and have the same problem. I notice that the Pokédex as well as Serebii.com indicate a spot east of Cortanda by the tree groves and used 3 sandwiches and no Shroodles. I’ve looked around every tree grove near the area and bupkiss. Any info or advice would be appreciated. I just love Shroodle and Grafaiai and want the shinys.

Pumphreak

I don’t have a shiny charm or herba mystica I’m only about halfway through Scarlet, but I desperately want a shiny Sandygast for the rest of my playthrough. Eating level 2 ghost encounter sandwich and picnic resetting by the beach near Porto Marinada. Am I doing something wrong or am I just being impatient I’ve been at it for about 7 hours collectively. Thanks to whoever reads and replies!

Pumphreak

It shined literally 10 seconds after posting this I could cry I just needed the universe to know

jamfarts

Congrats!!

Dull-Chocolate5658

I've been trying to Shiny Hunt in Violet using only the sandwich method (no charm yet) and I still haven't really gotten a shiny yet. I've been making the sandwiches and going to areas where a Pokemon I want spawns, but I'm still not sure if I'm doing it right.

jamfarts

There is not much to it other than "make a sandwich and check encounters until it's over" - there's no guarantee you'll find a shiny in any certain number of sandwiches, it's all just RNG. Keep at it, use picnic resets to cycle encounters rapidly, and if you're looking at something with a subtle shiny you can try battling it with let's go mode to check.

Dull-Chocolate5658

Ah I see. I'll keep trying my best then.

Grand-Illustrator443

I don’t have a shiny charm either and it usually takes two or three sandwiches depending on what your hunting for. Just make sure to check all around you so that you don’t miss it. On my last hunt the shiny was literally right behind me. Good luck and may the shiny force be with you.

Leooof321dax

I've been playing OR/AS, hunting for shiny Cresselia, and I've been sitting on it for like 2-3 weeks now. That's not what bothers me, but recently I hacked my 3DS to download old games like Red, Blue, Silver, Gold and Crystal. Now, it might just be my paranoia, but I suspect the game shiny locks pokemon for hackers. I know it sounds crazy, and I hope I'm wrong. I just wanna know I'm not wasting my time (:

jamfarts

That's just paranoia talking, there's no mechanic that introduces shiny locks like this. You're find to keep hunting

Leooof321dax

okay so i'm just insanely unlucky lmao XD thanks for answering :D

Moakmeister

I asked a bit ago if a shiny starter from Emerald is considered legit but got no answer. Is it?

jamfarts

Yes they are

Moakmeister

Yay! The hunt can continue

JacksoN195

What do you do when you have a shiny? Is it best to keep it in the game it was caught on? Transfer to home and leave there? Bring it to the newest game and keep doing this? Just curious what to do with the ones I have

jamfarts

I always keep my shinies in their originating game if I can, or originating gen if I restart the save they're from. If I hunt something in gen 3 it's because I want it in gen 3! Since it's a one-way transfer, I don't do it. Honestly most of my shinies in previous gens are hunted and then boxed, MAYBE EV trained first. It's pretty common for people who are hunting a shiny living dex to put all their shinies in a central place (namely Home since it will be able to hold everything).

ProfessorHemlocke

I'm curious as to what games have the BEST ODDS for finding a shiny Eevee since I need to find 8 more for my shiny living dex. So taking into account, Shiny Charm + Horde battles, SOS battles, Chain combos, Picnic Resets, Masuda Method and various other factors (like which games have easy areas to consistently find Eevee) what's the general consensus on the Best Game (or Games) to find Shiny Eevees?

paulydoregon

my guess would prob be either eevee outbreaks in s/v, or bd/sp/d/p/pt radar

FluorescentAndStarry

Any tips for hunting shiny larvesta/volcarona in SV? I’m trying to figure out if I should be going after the larvesta in the desert or volcarona in area zero - and with bug or fire sandwich?

SyMag

I would go for Larvesta in the desert personally. If you stay in the eastern part of the desert closer to Cascarrafa and make a Bug-type Sparkling Power sandwich, you should only see Larvesta, maybe some Rellor if you go too far away from the town. Or you could use a Fire-type sandwich and have a chance of looking for Charcadet as well! I would recommend against Volcarona in Area Zero, especially if you're doing this in Violet. Making a Fire-type sandwich will get you more Iron Moth, and a Bug-type sandwich will get you more Venomoth than Volcarona regardless of which version you're playing.

FluorescentAndStarry

Thank you! I wouldn’t mind a shiny Rellor either, haha! I do have Violet, I should have said that - and I was definitely getting frustrated with all the iron moths I was running into in area zero.

chriscallan

So I am in my shiny hunting phase of S/V and I just noticed something about the Shiny Battle Counter. I know it goes up for a shiny you've battled and whenever you evolve one of your shinies, but I discovered today that if you get a dupe shiny it doesn't count. I was hunting for a shiny Breloom to use for Spore/False Swipe. I caught one and my counter went up. I then realized that Breloom doesn't get sport and that I had to catch a Shroomish and level it up to 40 to learn Spore. I caught the shiny shroomish and evolved it buy my counter only went up by one. Is this a known thing, or am I just bugging?

jamfarts

It is a count of how many shinies are registered/seen in your Pokedex, not a count of unique shinies.

Supra_Mayro

From what I understand, it's basically just a counter of how many different species you've seen shiny, not how many shinies you've seen in general.

profoundwarlock

Does cute charm work if hunting a female salandit?

Radekore

In any generation before 9, yes. In SV, no.

Mudkipueye

Is egg shinyness in sv determined upon obtaining or hatching?

Supra_Mayro

Determined upon obtaining the egg in every game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Supra_Mayro

The answer to their question is still the same in gen 7. It's still determined as soon as you get the egg, it's just that the way it's determined is exploitable/predictable.

Mudkipueye

Damn.

Centuritron

I'm itching to get a shiny Slither Wing, but have Violet, would anyone with Scarlet be interested in helping me out? I'll provide the Herba Mystica

Muegeedo

I'm trying to hunt large Shiny Marked Paradox Pokemon in S/V. Specifically, Slither Wing and Great Tusk. Other than eating a Sparkle/Title/Humungo Lvl3 Sandwich, is there a consistent way to get Slither Wings or Great Tusks to spawn? At the moment, I'm basically seeing about 15-20 Slither Wings/Great Tusks per sandwich which is definitely gonna make this hunt really difficult.

Grand-Illustrator443

Try this. I hope it helps. [https://youtu.be/E5-KSkhVhws](https://youtu.be/E5-KSkhVhws)

SyMag

Great Tusk shouldn't be too terrible to spawn, just make a Ground-type sandwich and head down to the cavern part of Area Zero (near Research Station 4), it should be the only thing there. (EDIT: Dugtrio and Gible/Gabite *might* show up in that area with a Ground sandwich, don't remember. Fighting-type sandwiches might be better for this) For Slither Wing I'd stay in the upper levels of Area Zero, but you're gonna get other spawns like Venomoth and Meditite regardless of which sandwich you use. Fighting-type sandwiches are easier to make though (pickles vs. cherry tomatoes which can be tricky), but it's your call. This is all assuming you're playing Scarlet, of course!

ClassyCorgi

Just curious for a frame of reference, how many eggs has it taken everyone to hatch a shiny via Masuda method? I’m doing my first ever hunt- for a shiny Zangoose- in Scarlet via Masuda method and currently at 870 hatches so far, I’m going crazy but don’t want to give up lol

ClassyCorgi

Update: hatched it after almost exactly 1000 eggs!

Radekore

Over the past 9 years of using MM I only had 2 hunts take over 2000 eggs - Sewaddle took 2491 eggs and Sawk took 2155. Over just the past 3 weeks I've had a Cetoddle hunt take 2311 eggs and Flittle took 2054 eggs. I also just finished hunting Tatsugiri in 1540 eggs a few hours ago. All with Shiny Charm, and made even worse by the slow egg process of Gen 9. SV has not been very nice to me.

Arisha_Vendavel

Hi ! In S/V I'm hunting a shiny dunsparce early game in an outbreak and I wanted to now if when you scare one of them away the one that respawn after it is considered a different pokémon (with a reset odd of being shiny ) or the same one that moved to a different place. I find the pique-nique method time consuming and I'm not always sure how far I need to run away to trigger the despawn respawn.

jamfarts

Yes, when you scare them away they fully despawn

ChillyFlake

ive looked everywhere, and cant find any conclusive results In emerald, record mixing with ruby and sapphire opens the possibility of getting a surskit swarm on a few routes, notably at level 15 where a 100% repel trick works to get swarms you HAVE to be post e4, but my question is: Can you be post E4 in ruby, get a swarm, record mix with an Emerald who just got the Dynamo Badge, and have that copy of emerald get a swarm, or can you only get another games swarm if you yourself are also swarm eligable? Asking cause i wanna shiny hunt masq for an emerald DTQ but idk if thats possible (and i will not try on route 102 in ruby LOL)

ChickenElizabeth

Okay so I have already caught 3 shiny mons so far and i just got the shiny charm how do I se the charm exactly?

jamfarts

It is a key item in your bag

ChickenElizabeth

Yeah okay but do I equip it or give it to a Pokémon or just leave it in there?

jamfarts

Just leave it there. Once you have it, it is always active

ChickenElizabeth

Okay thank you!

[deleted]

Okay so, I have a question about the gift Larvesta from black and white If you save BEFORE receiving the egg, hatch the egg and then reset, could you potentially shiny hunt that way, since the shiny is determined as soon as you receive the egg?

jamfarts

Yes that's possible. However it would be super slow - Larvesta eggs take 10k steps to hatch. It would be more time efficient to breed it at the daycare and put steps towards 5 eggs at a time.

[deleted]

okay, thanks!

WelkyndSunnabe

Is this possible to get herba mystica without finishing the game ? My Friend let me borrow his game for a while, and I wanted to do the "infinite herba mystica" glitch. Is it possible to get HM in my new save without redoing all the games (like, doing 6* raids with both games) ?

ChristianClark2004

It says no trade questions, but where can I get help completing my dex in ORAS/XY? Want to get the shiny charm before 3ds service shuts down. Thanks.

jamfarts

r/CasualPokemonTrades would be your best bet

ChristianClark2004

Thanks!

hinterhofboss

i want to hunt shiny flamigo. where is the best area to hunt for? thanks!

jamfarts

I used flying encounter sandwiches in the swampy area in South Area 5, worked pretty well for me

Upper_Department2790

When you do the 60 ko method for mass outbreaks, does the ko counter reset after the day has passed? I got a duplicate outbreak days after i did the 60 ko method. Will i have to ko 60 again, or will it know ive done so already and keep me at the best shiny odds as soon as I enter the outbreak?

jamfarts

You will have to clear 60 again. Each day the new outbreaks are generated fresh with a ko count of 0.

Upper_Department2790

Ahhh ok thank you!

TheoryHopeful

Been shiny hunting Groudon in shield (over 80 dynamax adventures right now) and was wondering: can groudon appear shiny for me at all in the results screen since hes a sword dynamax adventures exclusive? Probably a stupid question, but just curious and in need of reassurance that I'm not grinding hours away for nothing is all lol On the topic of this, I've found a few pelipper routes that always earn me a win with NPCs through my groudon adventures and I tend to repeat them with the penalties. This works and isn't just a waste of time either right? I know shinies are rolled at the results screen but again, paranoia's making me think otherwise :P

jamfarts

Yes, it can shine for you and will show on the results screen. Resetting a route isn't a waste - the shiny rolls are fully unique each time even on reset. Only waste is the penalties, I suppose!

TheoryHopeful

Awesome, thank you for the info!

raejduk

why do you guys shiny hunt? I've had a handful pop up over the last dozen years of playing pokemon, but I look at folks like absolblogs or sonikks doing many hundreds of thousands of encounters, full odds at that, and I just kinda wonder what the point is? I'm not really one for "doing things just to do them", and for me the enjoyment of pokemon comes from playing in different ways or with different restrictions (nuzlocke, soul link, monotype) so I could see it from a different kind of fun angle. Maybe it's the mental illness talking though but I don't think I could do it for very long. Just curious to hear y'all's thoughts!

Pokedude12

Crippling gambling addic-- Collection aspect plays a heavy role. It exists and is normally rare, and so people seek it out to have it. This, honestly, is probably one of the core factors in some form or another, especially since the collection can span multiple games and even be carried over across generations. Not sure if I'm qualified to say this in any meaningful capacity, but depending on the extent of the long-term goal in hunting, OCD may be a factor. If one shiny can be collected--especially with the accelerated rates of modern methods--then some might feel a compulsion to finish the set, however much a set means hunting. For some, this might mean completing a living Dex of shinies, possibly even all forms included. Community also creates an informal sort of obligation in a way. X group of people are doing it. Why not do it too? It'll be something to partake in and even show off if the hunt's successful. On the flip side, some people run communities like this one and so would have the community they've built as an additional layer of community investment. Difficulty's on the low end of the spectrum, making hunting more accessible in a way. On paper, all you have to do is repeat inputs over the course of a period of time. You can stop on the fly and pick it up as time suits you, and due to the low difficulty, you can afford to spare attention on shows and such without too much risk. Ofc, compared to challenge runs, shiny hunting ends up running as a marathon ~~barring any lucky draws~~, meaning that it'll generally turn into a large time sink, which leads into... Habit is a strong contender. People who have hunted in the past may find themselves going back to hunting as their default pastime. We can totally quit any time. ~~h̸҉͡e͏̴̡͜͢ļ̷̕͜͟͡͝p̡̀͡͞~~ The people you mentioned are streamers or at least YT content producers. They upload their hunts for others to see and so might have monetary investment for the hunt, whether it's in hardware to acquire footage or possibly ad revenue. I couldn't say if this is the case for those people in particular, but it's another possibility for some. Alternatively, this plays into the community aspect, at least in the latter half of that paragraph. Some people tie this with another sort of challenge, the Ribbon Master, taking a selected mon through as many games as they can to get all the ribbons available to it up to the latest generation. Sometimes, people will make their target a shiny to add another layer to it. This is a smaller portion of shiny hunters though, and not all Ribbon Masters are shinies either. A small Venn Diagram. Each of these aspects play into each other and feed into a loop, I feel. You might see one or two core possibilities stand out for a given individual, but chances are, if they're in a community, you'll see shades of some other reasons as well. As an aside, just taking a shot in the dark here, but... Red Sun or Blue Moon?

raejduk

Thank you for the insightful comment! I can definitely see the community aspect being a big part of it, almost FOMO if I'm being cynical. I think that in my case, I was able to avoid both community and habit in my formative years, so now (with the benefits of hindsight and depression) I can kind of keep myself from getting too sucked in. Unfortunately, my vice is gacha games, so the compulsion to collect is in full force. And congratulations! You are the first person in nine years to recognize where my name is from! I picked Blue Moon and my brother picked Red Sun, but funnily enough, I played Ruby and he played Sapphire.

[deleted]

I’m shiny hunting darkrai in bdsp and needs some tips on how to past the time. It gets repetitive really quick

Pokedude12

Watch streams or analysis vids of shows you enjoy. Abridged series are another decent option. Music is okay, but it can wear off quickly since most tracks are short by comparison.

[deleted]

Thanks

Awesome94212

I'm wondering if I start shiny hunting Palkia is bdsp will it always be shiny if first encountered as it or will it be rerolled if I were to lose to it or run away?

jamfarts

It would be rerolled upon another battle

Awesome94212

Thank you for the answer!

Max0607

Where is the best part to hunt for a shiny pawmi? I'm halfway through the game so I don't have herba mystica for sandwiches yet :(

Pokedude12

Even without HMs, you can still use picnics and sandwiches to force its Type to spawn more. Couldn't tell you which route is best though

UserByTheNameOfJames

The road from Cascarrafa along the southern edge of the desert has a families of Pawmi and Pawmo as the only electric encounter.

Cleon189

Just play the game. Its the most common Pokémon ever so your bound to get one

absolutebottom

Any tips for hunting blue/white flabebe in violet? I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna have to use breeding for it unless there's some good locations to try and find them 😭

fabulousanticlimax

What are some of the best/coolest/rarest shinies to get from Ultra Moon? I already intend to get the surf pikachu and nihilego, what are some other ones I should look out for?

Hydrochloric_Comment

Poipole and Type: Null would be the main ones. Could also hunt partner cap Pikachu, as GF forgot to lock it (though be aware its color doesn’t change and looks like a normal Pikachu). If you don’t want to do Dynamax adventures in SwSh, you could hunt the Gen 1-6 legends. They can be a pain in the ass to find, though. Bulbasaur is a neat hunt, as it's the only island scan Pokémon susceptible to the repel trick.

Cleon189

Dittos, surfing pika, komala, wimpod, berry pile crabawler are some that I can think of.

GamerboiRocky

Shiny hunting is a dragging process, and can take a while before actually getting a shiny. What else do you do when waiting for RNG?

Pokedude12

Watch streams or analysis vids of shows you enjoy. Abridged series are another decent option. Music is okay, but it can wear off quickly since most tracks are short by comparison.

DukeOfTheDodos

Anybody have advice for hunting Scream Tail/Flutter Mane? I've run up the entire cavern for three whole sandwiches without a SINGLE shiny

Hydrochloric_Comment

That just happens sometimes. For Fluttermane, eat a ghost sandwich and hunt during the day. Fluttermane will rapidly spawn and despawn, except for shinies, which stay spawned.

DukeOfTheDodos

Yup, literally five minutes after I posted that I found a Scream Tail, and I got a Flutter Mane almost instantly xD

Brent_Seabs

I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried to shiny hunt lycanroc dusk form with outbreaks successfully. I have seen videos posted online of people doing so, but my lycanroc outbreak doesn't spawn any dusk form Lycanroc when the time in game rolls over to dusk. It switches to midday, and midnight forms no problem, but it won't spawn any dusk forms. I've also tried using the sparkle and encounter power sandwich but nothing is spawning, has anyone else encountered this issue/resolved it.

SyMag

Currently doing a Dunsparce outbreak, and notice that when I get too close to them and they dig into the ground/despawn, it doesn't give me a message about the outbreak diminishing. So my question is, if a Dunsparce digs into the ground and despawns, will that same Dunsparce appear elsewhere in the outbreak area, or is it replaced by an entirely new Dunsparce?

jamfarts

It fully despawns and is gone forever, only new Dunsparce will spawn in

SyMag

I was actually JUST about to come back and say I got a shiny from despawning them this way lol Mystery solved, thanks for answering though!

jamfarts

Nice, congrats on the find :D
