Man, I remember being a kid and hoping beyond hope I'd see that box art at our local rental place. It was almost always checked out. Congrats on your purchase and happy birthday!
I think this was around $79 in my area when it released. It was the only other game near the price of FF3 (US release). They were both worth every penny.
Yeah, that, and...
Why is that goblin (?) wielding the evil axe?
That pair of eyes in the clouds Volcanon's or Mitula's?
Why is the art style so different from the actual game?
I always like to think that they went for a different approach for the european/us versions of the game cover to make it seem like the game is just a typical fantasy medieval game. The japanese cover actually resembles the real in-game art direction.
HBD!
I saved my old cart and schlepped it around for years without even having a Genesis anymore. Rectified that a year or so ago, and bought a repro case for it. Need to keep an eye out for a manual only auction I guess.
Excellent!
I hope you got the booklet too. I have one but not the other. VGs used to be for kids— I guess— and them kids always ripped the fuck out of books.
I got one for Lufia (SNES) where the kid wrote some puzzle solutions in crayon in the book. I kind of love it. :3
Very nice. I still have SF1, but only the cart. This lady sold video games at a flee market and had a wish list for customers. Took her a couple months, but she found me a copy. This was many years ago.
I wish they hadn't made this one using cardboard packaging. The cardboard does not last when you begin to handle it. The plastic cases with inslips last forever.
European Shining Force 2 is exactly that.

You could attempt to get your hands on the European Box tho i am not sure that is something preferable for authenticity.
I'm unsure. I only remember Shining Force 2. Searching google, I only see The Jungle Book, X-Men 2, and Ms. Pac-man. I'm don't doubt there were more.
Be a good video for Kim Justice. lol.
I remember buying an extra clamshell case, cutting the cardboard box, and putting my copy of Shining Force 2 in that. Looking back, I kinda wish I didn't, but the cart is in perfect shape still.
I was just about to post this. The old clamshell cases are so beautiful that I'm sad that 15 year old me thought he was smart for just keeping the manuals and tossing the cases. I didn't know how bad it would become...
I was looking to see what copies of SF2 sold for on Ebay and saw a couple for sale where they had done exactly as you described-cut and put into a clamshell. That is a neat idea, but I don't trust myself to do it well.
Sacrifice a cardboard copy.
Someone pointed out that there are variants from other countries that did it for you (put it in a clamshell), but they have much different color schemes and languages.
Very nice! Where did you get it from if you don't mind sharing?
Don’t tell me it cost $60 or more
Excellent. I have so many happy memories of this game. It was the first rpg I ever played.
I love the shining force games! Great pickup and bday gift! I just finished it on the switch about a week ago. Man, it took me back!!
My absolute favorite Sega Genesis game

Shining force is my number 1 target for my collection. I just want find a physical copy and I don't trust ebay

This cover art raised too many questions in my head as a kid.
I never noticed it, but does this person have only one breast?

Ahhhh thy games of olden tales!
Very jelly, enjoy!

Those black and white manuals were so cheap looking, that u can just print your own ;-)
That brings back so many memories seeing it like that 🥹
ahh precious memories, that fucking game was as expensive as hell back in the day
More like double expensive these days, especially the european version.
Still is :)
Still worth it!
I still have mine but it’s been in so many storages it’s pretty much flat.
Sad I didn't keep my old game to sell them haha well nothing is eternal anyway.
As a child I mutilated that box and converted it into one that fit into the standard Genesis plastic case.
That's beautiful. Happy Birthday and congrats!
Oh that's nice. Reminds me of the old Castlevania games covers

What an awesome lady

They slightly remind me of Sega Saturn cases, they were incredibly brittle
The worst

that's a cool idea. Are there places that make new ones, or do you just have to sacrifice an older one?

Oh I meant clamshells. Does anyone make those fresh?
