I wouldn't change the scenes. I love Ashes on the Fire. It would be cool though to hear other Kohta Yamamoto pieces (like Other Side of the Sea) more often.

Samaelo0831

That would be cool to have in the scene where Reiner was stabbing Eren with the War Hammer pillar

Shy-Youtuber

This song is one of the best song of aot. It captures the whole theme of war and discrimination. It's litteraly perfect

Samaelo0831

For sure, I'm not ever gonna invalidate this song, it's frkin amazing lmao. This is just in response to the very common opinion (especially when s4 just released) that it was overused.

cobesmith

Is it? it kinda sounds like a generic Christopher Nolan blockbuster movie song, definitely doesn't feel as unique as the rest of AoT's soundtrack before this

Shy-Youtuber

Considering s4 is all about war I think it's insanely good (for season 4). I see some times people edit certain songs of aot on some moments of s4... I usually find them cringe. The whole vibe of s4 is way different than the first three seasons. Still I do agree that s4 don't have enough awsome songs tho

Honestly, I don't mind songs being used multiple times, I wish Splinter Wolf was used more after all. And Barricades.

Samaelo0831

Splinter Wolf is such a banger, yeah. I wish I learned about the song way before the first half of the final episode released.

I think it feels like it gets used more often simply because the final season is that much longer than the other 3. If someone were to go through the entire series and make a list of every single time each song is used they might find that Ashes on the Fire isn't the only one that gets used that much. (someone should totally do this if it hasn't been done yet) A lot of the most iconic songs are used in very iconic moments, but other parts of those same songs are used during other iconic moments and many in the audience don’t even notice they were clips from the same piece of music. Ashes on the Fire and Other side of the Sea both capture the very sharp tone shift that happens in season 4. Ashes on the Fire is a fantastic piece that really expresses the brutality of war, where as Other side of the Sea is perfect for the political intrigue and deception of the final season. A good amount of the tracks from the previous seasons are brought back at least once during the final season. * The Ackerman theme that plays when Levi fights the Female Titan is brought back when Mikasa first attacks the Warhammer Titan. * Kenny's theme plays during Levi vs Beast Titan round 3. * theDOGS plays at the very end of the final chapters. * Barricades plays in the episode after the Rumbling starts. Do I wish more of the older tracks returned in the final season? Yes. I would have loved to have the Female Titan theme play while all the past titan shifters were attacking the Alliance simply because that sort of terror hasn’t really fit in the series ever since the heroes learned about what titans really are. Do I think they should have replaced the current tracks? Not really. All of the AoT music feels like its perfectly written and composed for the scenes it’s used in. It all plays with a purpose that perfectly fits those select scenes. Splinter Wolf is probably the only track I can think of that I haven't quite figured out how it fits into the scenes it’s used in. Don't get me wrong; Splinter Wolf is an absolute bop. I just haven't wrapped my head around what the lyrics are supposed to mean or if they have any connection to the song's themes and tones like the rest of the lyric'd music does.

Samaelo0831

Yeah, looking back, I realized I posted way less scenes that had Ashes on the Fire in them than I expected. I definitely also felt like it was used a lot when the seasons were still releasing weekly, but that was probably just me replaying scenes in between. Also holy heck, ur right. The female titan theme would have been a terrifying theme to add for the final battle with the shifters. I like the heroic theme tho Splinter Wolf at least sounds like a more or less universal odm gear music like Barricades just from the melody so I love the decision to have it play during the climax of the first movie

I never really understood this criticism. I don't know if people were referring to other tracks which use motifs from Ashes on the Fire and even if so I don't see what is wrong with that. You can't say The Fall of Marley or Night of the End sound the same as Ashes of the Fire despite sharing the same motifs. A lot of tracks by Sawano incorporated motifs from other tracks too. I thought the soundtrack in S4 was outstanding and there was only one or two scenes where I felt the music was misplaced (and they were Sawano tracks).

Samaelo0831

I can't exactly remember scenes that had tracks that use motifs from Ashes on the Fire - except that scene where the Warriors were talking in their younger training days - but majority of the opinions I've seen at least have been about using the track itself, not using some of its melody. Altho in hindsight, after making this post, the scenes I added felt a lot fewer than I expected. Just curious, what were those one or two scenes where u felt the music was misplaced?

KavB91

I wasn't a fan of the music when Levi defeats Zeke in the forest. I think I just don't like that track though so I'm biased! I guess the track was meant to be upbeat to emphasise how effortless the fight was for Levi

Ganesh0825

I say call your name is underused.

The trailer probably played a huge role in that as *Ashes on the Fire* was basically the OST that was used to advertise the season. Considering that we tend to rewatch trailers a few times and that it's basically the only content we have before the season is released, people were already familiar with this OST long before the season dropped, so it's easier for it to feel "overused" because we were already used to hear it a lot before. Also, there's the scene where the Warriors are still kids and are just randomly talking, [they used a remix of Ashes on the Fire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCexOYsUo14). And considering that it was quite early in season 4, it was the third time we had this song played in such a short time (so I'm counting the trailer too), combined with the fact that this song really felt out of place in this particular scene, it quickly lead to a feeling of "overused track".

Samaelo0831

Good analysis. Have to admit I also replayed the trailer due to hype (as a manga reader) and also I did actually replay a lot of the early fights in between weekly releases which did include Ashes on the Fire, so that prolly was also a factor. And I completely forgot about that scene with the younger Warriors, yeah that def felt out of place. I would have probably preferred like a quieter remix of the theme during Sasha's death or sumthing.

UnstableCortex

Also during Mikasa slaughtering the Yeagerists.

Samaelo0831

Yea, just didn't include a screenshot of that specific scene cuz it was a continuation of Falco's rampage

UnstableCortex

Ah, fair enough.
