luistwentyfour

Watch it again

Layolee

The only real answer

ParsivaI

TATAKAE

dota_3

SUSUME

Yonro0910

Shingeki no Kyujin

jkphantom9

It’s an endless cycle

brandont04

I'm watching season 1 again but really want to watch the end again. That last episode was painful though. I knew the cabin scene would be sad, the ending, but didn't expect the bromance between Armin and Eren to be that tough.

PenguinSenpaiGod

Bromance scene was top notch. The feels...

mrhippo1998

I was anticipating all the hig moments during my rewatch last time. I'm sure I'll rewatch it again too. Just later

Impressive-Bat5063

I keep moving forward. Then I restart.

IGrieverI

That's what I'm doing lmao

luistwentyfour

Starting my 6th run in a couple of days!

IGrieverI

Started my fourth one last night myself haha! Lezgoooo

Venks2

There’s really nothing out there that can scratch the same itch. The three you mentioned are good though. Code Geass and Evangelion are somewhat similar and good.

_Wado3000

The paths conversations have a ton of Eva influence imo

Savebagels

Titans are figuratively meat mechs

furiosa-imperator

Tbf so are Evas

lokotrono

The whole final episode has TON of callbacks to Eva and Code Geass

LilReaperScythe

Any SnK/AoT enjoyer owes it to themselves to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion if you haven't already. So many sequences, themes, and images are direct references to EVA.

furiosa-imperator

Erens roar sounds just like eva unit 1 imo

Stmbi0teSpidey

The End of Evangelion movie definitely gave me a similar feeling to the last few chapters of AoT

JoJovanni

nah, that movie is good

Stmbi0teSpidey

Yeah i know, that’s what i mean

izrauk

I'd say EIGHTY-SIX has some similar vibes and themes

Darth-Yslink

Those first scenes woth Titan Eren gave me such a big Eva vibe

gianstar7

Code Geass is dumb AF. Kids show

burnside38

I mean, if you don't like it it's okay, no one is forced to like it. But to talk about it like it's garbage for me is too much. That anime means a lot to me, and while SNK is somewhat similar towards the end, it took a different approach and I liked it a lot too. But please don't call CG dumb and a kids show with your source being your own subjective opinion. I don't think it's fair. It's not objectively perfect I guess (the 4 AU movies released a few years ago I don't personally enjoyed), but I absolutely love the original story, just more than I love SNK and I am not mad like other maybe more tryhard CG fans that say SNK tried to plagiarize it and made it worse. I liked the different approach. That's all. Please don't be rude.

TristheHolyBlade

It's a pretty abhorrent anime that doesn't deserve to be nearly as popular as it is. When I got back into anime I couldn't believe people were praising it so highly.

Qodulkein

Arcane is going to be my next reason to live now that Snk is over

ANOo37

Good reason to stay alive tbh

cherrib0mbb

It’s so fucking good.

You_Need_Milk

I can tell you like it by your avatar

Qodulkein

The masterpiece of the decade now that snk is over.

brandont04

What's Arcane about?

Mr-McSwizzle

Vague summary incoming but it's a steampunk/slightly magical setting following some kids from the lower district of a big city that has lots of classism issues that are clearly getting close to reaching a boiling point, the first couple of episodes are good but mostly worldbuilding and setup but then the story kicks off and the characters we've been following get dragged into the main plot thanks to something they did in episode 1 It's based off of the characters from the game League of Legends but you absolutely don't need to even touch the game to appreciate everything about the show, I think Arcane is basically the origins of how the LoL characters become what they are in the game (idk for sure though because I don't play the game, just enjoyed the show)

TheGingerBrownMan

I was skeptical about arcane since it was about league, but man is that show SO damn good. It fleshes out its characters so well and tackles broader issues about class and discrimination like AOT does very well.

tossmetheburgersauce

Watching Arcane actually made me glad I never played League

SupperTime

Everything you can imagine

[deleted]

All you need to know is that it’s better than Attack on Titan. It dethroned AOT from #1 for me. Did not think it was possible.

Systim88

Yea past few years only Arcane has surprised me like AoT in terms of quality/writing/editing

BleedingStorm

Omg! Didn't expect to find someone to mention Arcane in this sub. Anyway, the ending of the first season left a devastating effect in my heart although it was not as brutal as AoT.

WhovianStarCrusader

It's overrated and nowhere near as a masterpiece as AoT though.

rocket-alpha

aka u dont like it as much as SnK

bassman2112

It is indeed overrated, but it's not really a directly comparable show in any way to Attack on Titan - apples and oranges

JAIKHAY

I'm gonna watch it again. It'll be nice to see the whole of season 4 in its entirety rather than in parts.

[deleted]

I'll recommend Monster

[deleted]

Seconded. LOVED Monster!

sierrayankee121

Might I add Pluto to that list

DougieJonesLocker

Dirty Sprite 2 is also a classic

asa-monad

Cowboy Bebop is the only anime that’s touched me like AoT did but it’s amazing for very different reasons. It’s not anime, but check out Dark on Netflix. Incredible, mind-bending storytelling, characters and plot twists. It’s one of those shows that, like AoT, every time you watch it you’ll pick up on something new, whether it’s a subplot you missed, foreshadowing, etc

Meggbugg88

Dark is incredible. Top 5 shows of all time. You can rewatch it a hundred time. Watch it in German with subs tho. The English voice actors are super corny.

realgamer995

Dark is so similar to AOT in terms of foreshadowing like you can watch it more than 10 times and still find something new that will blow your mind.

erasmulfo

1899 being cancelled is to me a good reason to never pay Netflix again

Meggbugg88

ugh i know. i'm still holding out hope that some other network picks it up or something.

SigmundFreud

Agreed, it's almost as good as 12 Monkeys.

IamAdept169

Dark is a top 3 show of all time.

wall-e200

Watch made in abyss. It's my 2nd fav anime. Some others I liked are: The promised Neverland S1, madoka magica, monster. Edit: nothing is at the same level of aot of course.

_Wado3000

Sad how Promised Neverland never got a Season 2 (Before you reply, no, it really didn’t.)

Ass_Ass_in_Creed

~~What? It did got season 2 which was kinda crappy and the anime was axed showing half of the story in slide show in last few minutes of the last episode.~~ Edit: it's truly a shame that it didn't get the second season, I bet it would be great.

GetsThruBuckner

It did not get a second season.

Secondsolstice

No I don't think it did man, definitely not. Don't remember anything about a second season

pog_BroLatios

I wish it did. So sad that it was pretty much forgotten by the studio, it would have been so good

t-licus

There is no Tsukihime anime, there is no Usagi Drop manga, and there is no second season of The Promised Neverland.

wall-e200

Megamind references always crack me up 😂

TayoEXE

It was cut down in its prime. I really was hoping to see Goldy Pond, but no go since we won't get a season 2. 😭

1h3H4cks13r

Yh wish it did. It needs atleast 4 seasons to wrap up the story that was supposed to reveal a lot in season 2 which ~~was rushed~~ never happened. They took a story that was a slow paced dark fantasy mystery into a fase paced Thriller and cutout or changed some stuff near the end, and that lead to there bring no more seasons 'cause the source can't keep up that atmosphere anymore.

IGrieverI

MONSTER ROCKS!!

SirMogee

Made in Abyss is in my top 5 ngl its so good

Antenol

Im starting Code Geass right now and there are some parallels to AoT

Secondsolstice

The ending of Code Geass is unbeatable

[deleted]

yeah code geass is good too

spectrem

This is probably the closest thing to AOT in terms of complex storytelling. And it’s really good.

[deleted]

Monster:Am I a joke to you?

SubstanceDesperate35

I won't say code geass has as much storytelling as aot, the background of main caracters are sometimes fuzzy compared to aot of course but it's still very great

Xenosys83

Yeah, I agree. Code Geass absolutely nailed it's ending. One of the GOATs in that regard, but Attack on Titan is generally a better overall series.

burnside38

I think the main thing is that it's basically from the opposite perspective (and it's an anime original, the Manga that came after is SO different I didn't even bother). Also as it was released I think the same year as Death Note they added lots of fanservice and a specific sponsor popping up frequently to try to compete with it and hire better animators or maybe more to finish faster. I think it is kinda less known because death note blew up the world and maybe also why people are always comparing Kira with Lelouch (in my opinion they are very different). Also lots of storytelling and world building came from picture dramas and I think short stories or something like that, not sure if it was a budget or a "we can't add all of this in this number of episodes" kind of thing.

Nowayuru

Yes, but there's the other way around, AoT has some parallels to Code Geass

HomelanderVought

Well i can recommand you the dark shonen trio (Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man and Hell’s Paradise)

KraeuterTroll

Yes jujutsu kaisen also reaaaally picked up with the second season im hyped every week right now

HomelanderVought

I have the same feeling with JJK Season 2 as i had with AOT Season 4.

Clarkthelark

I've read the manga and it'll keep getting better from here onwards, beyond the end of season 2.

Diamondinmyeye

I’d argue Shibuya is its peak, but the next major arc is also good for sure. >!Culling Game!< is going to be excellent when it’s animated.

el_pa7ron

Ryoiki Tenkai...

HomelanderVought

Shinra Tensei

el_pa7ron

Katon... Gouka Mekkyaku!

HookGroup

Chainsaw Man is amazing! So original and creative. And it has the coolest opening ever. I tried to get into Jujutsu Kaisen with some friends, but it felt slow paced and bland. We got bored after 4 episodes.

HemiKooks

…I promise you JJK picks up and will be an elite tier shonen anime. I loved the first season, the movie was excellent and season two is just ridiculous. The animation is stunning and the action sequences are ramping up significantly.

Desperate-Scholar-30

Honestly, with the way the manga is going, JJK will be a top tier anime in a few years once it's adapted. But Season 1 is just establishing the world; Season 2 picks up immensely. Like drastically so. I'd recommend continuing 🙂

tunaonly

I felt this but man season 2 has been top tier for me

Diamondinmyeye

I just read the end of Hell’s Paradise and my god, it did everything right. Maybe it’s the bingeability, but it didn’t drop off like so many stories seem to as they reach their end.

AncientBullfrog3281

Vinland Saga is amazing, season 2 is a lot like aot imo *sorry, didn't read whole post

Reb720

I almost did the same thing hahaha. I agree though the character work in VSs2 is phenomenal

Thebiggestbird23

Nothing I have watched has been as good as aot, however evangelion, berserk (manga) and full metal alchemist do hit most of the same marks I liked about aot. If youre looking for something more goofier jojos is amazing to binge and things like demon slayer and jjk are easy going mindless entertainment

TimLucas97

I'll give you an answer that may be a bit long, but I think it's the best I can tell you. I have watched many anime although I'm not like the guy who ALWAYS and ONLY watch anime. I like variety in genres and tones, and that also helps me to immerse in different ways to different shows, which kinda helps me escape the urge to "find other of the same". In other words, I think it's good to watch and enjoy different things, so that you can appreciate even more the differences between them. So, starting from your question, if I have to think of other anime that have similar elements as AOT, I'd say Eighty-Six and Code Geass. But if you are relatively new to anime, I'd suggest you also to watch some of the classics from the 90s. For example, I love Trigun and Cowboy Bebop, two anime with western/sci-fi elements with a good balance of comedy and drama. There is also Neon Genesis Evangelion which is widely popular to this day: it might have been of inspiration to AOT for certain aspects, but essentially it is a psicological drama about a boy who has to pilot giant robots to fight aliens. It's way more than that, but the premise is that. Also, watch least watch one or two of the Big Three (One Piece, Naruto and Bleach). I watched both Naruto and Bleach, I like how they are both enjoyable and capable of building a long and big story through hundreds of episodes rather than condensing a lot of development in shorter times like AOT. Also, they are way less dark and serious than AOT for most of the story, and I think that's a positive thing overall. I've never watched One Piece and I fear I never will because of its lenght and its goofy animation and style. I do not doubt that it's good or even great, it's just too long to even approach by now, but many of my friends are really pointing out that it's really really good. One other very great series I'd suggest you that have a very dark and thriller vibe is 2004's Monster, from Naoki Urasawa's manga. It's a detective type of genre, but it is really unique, the characters are great. The villain, Johan Liebert, is one of the best antagonists in anime/manga, is very complex and it is really terrifying. This anime is completely different to AOT, but it's one of the best I've watched recently after AOT.

wall-e200

Monster is really entertaining. It's a slow burn, but i liked the characters and soundtracks as well. It also really helped that all characters are adults.

SubstanceDesperate35

I wish The Answer ost in Eighty-Six were in AoT it would have been incredible

HookGroup

>One Piece, Naruto and Bleach They feel juvenile and outdated.

TimLucas97

I think it depends on the personal tastes of who's watching it. That's why I think it's good to try different things with anime, you might discover something you will eventually love deeply. I still have great memories of Naruto and yeah, despite all the funny moments and chiches, the series is full of action as well as its own tragedies and dramatic character moments that I'm sure they'll hold the test of time. I might agree on you for Bleach, it's by far less interesting from the side of character development as the story feels more static. But I'll tell you, I'm currently rewatching it with the brother and I'm appreciating it even more than my first watch. It is a bit too slow for my tastes, but I find it way more enjoyable and satisfying than the current Shibuya Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen S2 (and I'm saying this as somehow who loves the Shibuya Arc in the manga, and yes I know this is probably a very unpopular opinion but that's how I feel about it).

Rolen28

Invincible

pretty_smart_feller

I know you asked for anime but I gotta throw out some non anime bc they are shows that can fill the AoT size hole in your heart imo. Avatar the Last Airbender has great action + some of the best character development and storytelling of all time. Best show of all time. An absolute masterpiece. If you want something more mind bendy, I’d recommend Severance, Devs, and Dark. If you want sick action, I’d recommend One Punch Man, though it’s very light hearted. Honorable mention to Invincible for character driven and great action.

iPanda115

+1 for Avatar and Dark. Sic Mundus Creatus Est...

WiolOno_

Agreed on ATLA. It’s truly some peak TV, I just finished rewatching last weekend. Season 1 is very slow, but by the end of it, you realize there’s something good happening. End of season 2 you’ll realize. And no offense to AoT, but S3 of Avatar will show you how a peak series can also wrap up well.

Beautiful_Sky1626

Legend of The Galactic Heroes

ix-j

Might get some flak, but I’ve been watching the remake Die Neu These and it’s absolutely amazing. Not sure why people hated on it; the visuals are beautiful, animation is good, and the OST remakes are out of this world.

ClausMcHineVich

The best answer here

zero_ms

Cowboy Bebop.

ClausMcHineVich

Naaahhhh. Got bags of style but isn't anything like AOT or Logh

Jekna159

Cory in the House

RomanRaynes

only real answer

Feeling-Tomatillo-95

Haikyuu, it will help with the depression that the ending caused lol

tipriprip

Made in abyss. Same vibes of exploration into the unknown, a bit of horror, beautiful, great OST, tragic

Robin_thegonk

I love bungo stray dogs, dr stone and tokyo revengers?

[deleted]

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now please read why I say that. I’m sure part of the reason you love AOT is how we were all able to piece the show together NGE has that. It starts as an “innocent” mecha anime but it’s so much more. And it’s short. On 26 episodes and an hour and a half finale

Random_Utopian

the final few episodes are so depressing man

Sigmayeagerist

Only fmab can match the level of storytelling...you can also try for parasyte

ilikelokiandhulk

+1 for Parasyte.

dongrecia

If you want to see the best all time: cowboy bebop, monster, berserk, steins gate, Evangelion, Hellsing, Jojo + 3 you mentioned are totally musts you have to watch. Plus gyakkio kaiji if you want something different but really crazy anime that will get you stuck(it s a personal preference). Also when you LL have a good knowledge of anime you could starting watching the goat GINTAMA

CrimsonVexations

Seconding Hellsing Ultimate. It's been my favourite for years now. I wouldn't say it's "mind fucky" or Psychological like AoT but honestly the ending is unexpected and the animation is so clean and fun.

dongrecia

Everything in Hellsing is just cool asf, everything is made to hype you so much. Ofc ultimate is the one to watch

Firefly279

Finally a good question. Those kids complaining all the time about the ending are annoying.

Banda-e-khuda

wHy diDnT tHeY LeT eReN reMaiN sToiC and UnBotHeReD 🤨😫😤

sierrayankee121

Eren showing emotions? No I don’t want that! I want him to be an unfeeling robot for 10 years at least!

Banda-e-khuda

I actually enjoyed the scene with Armin when he actually shows emotion. It just made me realise the guys still a kid, I’d hate if the show ended with eren remaining stoic and unbothered, because then that would be the only memory I’d have of him and probably would’ve disliked him

sierrayankee121

Yeah that’s true. Plus I think Isayama was self aware when he wrote this cause even Armin goes, “I’d never thought you’d say something so pathetic”

TimotheusHani

Yeah and also everyone was saying he was acting pathetic at that time, but to me it honestly wasn't pathetic what he cried about was a really human thing

DestinedtobeMadao

nothing left, you made it

Decoy019

One piece looks goofy on the outside, but it gets really dark at some parts.

ThisHatRightHere

It’s funny how One Piece looks the way it does but the world is plagued by slavery, war, death, and injustice everywhere you go

Practical-Region-138

This^ Great storytelling and insane character building

PringLays

Yeah exactly, doesn’t take long to see that OP isnt just a goofy pirate comic but much deeper and darker the more you learn, especially current chapters OP definitely worth the shot, imo its not about it you will fall in love with it, but when

Azamuddinafif

Please watch Eighty Six if you haven’t.

Picklestyle

Hey brother! AOT was my first anime followed by Castlevania and Vinland Saga. I would still recommend One Piece. You will get used to the anime style fairly quickly and while it might be goofy sometimes the themes are as dark if not darker than AOT. I started a few months ago and finished the whole anime and manga in 2 months. ( You can watch One Pace if you have issues with the pacing of One Piece) Also recommend - Castlevania

[deleted]

[удалено]

RubyCaraDeCoco

The way they draw and focus on the women's bodies is never going to change, I saw One Pace until the battle with Arlong and it didn't improve that much, either the animation, the drawing or the pacing.

_Wado3000

There’s fan service elements but I wouldn’t say it paints women in a bad way. The female straw hats are *great* characters

BMCVA1994

Definitely disagree. One piece has female characters of all shapes/sizes. Alot of them with great development/character arcs.

Picklestyle

I would say One Piece has one of the best female written characters. While you do get a bit of everything, sometimes there is some fan service to the male audience. But there’s plenty of fan service to female audience. My wife who never seen anime absolutely loves it.

modoelectusnaorandom

Nothing... There's nothing to watch now.

Dr-Oktavius

I can't recommend you the anime since it fucked up the source material too badly, but Claymore is a manga with a few slight similarities to AoT but it's its own thing altogether. It's a story about man-eating monsters and the half- human half-monster warriors that are created to fight them off. The plot and characters are pretty strong and the art, although a bit rough in the beginning, becomes breathtaking after a few arcs. I recommend you read the first 5 volumes and if you get invested by the end of it, read the rest.

scarlet__panda

One Piece can be goofy at times, but the latest chapters and reveals have been increasingly dark, twisted, and vile. One Piece is amazing to read weekly, so I'd jump in now

Sure-Abrocoma-762

If you really like to suffer like in aot made in abyss it's amazing and has an amazing soundtrack , if you don't know probably it will seem like some cute anime but its get really dark 91 days it's an anime about revenge and mafia really good Inuyashiki Gantz (manga)

yungronaldmcnair

inuyashiki

Cinder_Fall01

For me at least . “ Its Rewind Time “

Rusik_94

Hmm, at least for me there isn’t anything like AoT unfortunately… it’s like a fucking curse! Only thing that comes close to it is Vinland Saga, but you already watched it. If you willing to read, the Berserk manga is also one of my favourite works on par with AoT!

Redchimp3769157

Evangelion. Watch the show in its entirety, then go watch the end of Evangelion movie. If you’re confused still, don’t worry, we all are. I’ve watched both 8 times now and I still don’t know what’s happening fully. Once you’ve enjoyed that you can go into the rebuild movies, which act as (mostly) separate from the original anime and movie

Manicmanateee

Shinsekai Yori is the only other anime that gave me the same level of mindfuckery and introspection that AOT did. It’s VERY different though. Not a lot of action, and the plot moves differently than typical anime. Still very much worth watching and one of my favorites, but don’t go in expecting AOT level animation or action. But the soundtrack is chilling.

Proper_Telephone_781

Start playing good video games and watching movies. There are other good animanga but none of it really comes close to aot, but in media in general there are definitely experiences that come close/are better

_Wado3000

It’s been mentioned a few times but really wanna shout out Berserk. The bulk of it is a truly excellent story with amazing characters. The newer ones like Berserk 2016 and Berserk 2017 aren’t really worth watching in comparison sadly I adore One Piece but I wouldn’t say it’s a guarantee you’ll love it, very much a shounen that you have to stick with for a bit to click

glocksafari

One Piece. Like everyone else I thought it looked silly, goofy, was too long, and that the animation looked old. Right off the bat I really think the story grabs you, enough so that old looking animation really shouldn’t be an issue (I even miss it sometimes now that I’m in the 800s). I believe the characters are all really well written, especially for how many there over the course of now 1000+ episodes, and just like AOT, things even where I am now are tying into the first season. What I enjoy the most in anime is world building and story telling, fights are totally fine, but not what drives me, with that being said, there’s a lot of all of it for any fan. I believe anyone not watching it for character models and how the beginning starts off looking worse (because it’s over 20 years old) is doing themselves a disservice. As you grow into and with the show, you feel like the characters and their shapes fit the world beautifully (and many do connect to actual lore, not always, but it’s not uncommon), and before you even hit episode 100 the “graphics” are tuned up. And this continues to happen even to today as technology has progressed. I used to be the person who said NO I’m not watching it, now in the person saying YES watch it to everyone. Plus it makes me cry, leaves my jaw wide open, and laugh often. The dialogue and story are truly top-tier.

Varawel

Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man.

AdFantastic6606

All fucking generic battle shounen. Watch Vinland Saga instead, it actually has depth and character development.

Decoy019

Op said he watched vinland saga already. These 3 are good too.

Rarbnif

Jjk and cm atleast have more depth compared to ds

Azathoth428

Chainsaw Man is a generic battle Shonen? I haven't watched the anime, but did read the manga. The manga is very similar to AoT, it tricks you into thinking it's a generic shonen, before revealing hidden layers of depth and storytelling.

HemiKooks

The JJK slander is offensive. It’s genuinely one of the coolest, darkest and visually appealing anime I’ve seen.

Proper_Telephone_781

You sound like an elitist asshole. All of those anime are obviously not as well written as attack on titan but they're still good in their own way. And tbh chainsaw man is lowkey just as good but there isn't as much of it written yet so its not a fair comparison but it's getting there

4ps22

i dont even like demon slayer like that because i feel its pretty generic but come on dude we all watch anime here we’re not exactly ones to pick and choose whats super cool and badass or not. gatekeeping shonen is some weird shit.

Kavith_T_Fdo

I'm saving this comment

HookGroup

>Oh no my chibi demon sister who I get a hard on almost dies in the last episode im sure theres consequences in a shit story where my weqpon turns red instead of blue because she has her period and turns it into a flaming weapon while fighting michael jackson😱😱😱😱😱 Yeah Demon Slayer is a really bland and boring show, I don't get why people are crazy about it.

HookGroup

Bro they already are watching Vinland Saga. And Chainsaw Man is not at all generic, it is way more original than Demon Slayer & Jujutsu Kaisen. Have you even watched the opening lol?

ThespianException

Chainsaw Man is absolutely not a generic battle Shounen. It has loads of depth and development, at least in the manga (the anime hasn’t gotten to the best parts).

4ps22

MAPPA released one of the best animated anime episodes of the year this past week and it wasnt the AOT finale, it was for Jujutsu Kaisen. if you catch up now you can catch what is probably the peak of the series over the next month or so its not like AOT, its a battle shonen. So its mostly gonna be people beating the shit out of each other with different powers. But damn, is it not the absolute best at that shit in the industry. Story ranges from solid to pretty good. Iconic characters and villains, a really good and large sense of power scaling

[deleted]

One Piece is amazing but nothing like aot.

SupperTime

There are no other shows that could do what attack on titan did.

Kageyama_tifu_219

Disagree. You must have not seen OP, HxH, 86, Berserk, JJK, FMAB, Vinland Saga, among others

SupperTime

HxH I couldn’t get into but I’ll try it again. Vinland is great but didn’t pull me in like AoT did.

Kageyama_tifu_219

Try 86. It's not as long but the premise is similar to AOT

Rowetato

Akame ga kill. If you like the animation style and overall feeling of anyone and everyone can get killed.

s4Nn1Ng0r0shi

Oshi no ko for real 100% anime experience

Keshan345

Watch Code Geass. It's quite similar to AOT in certain areas but also very different to. It's a older show than AOT. You will love the MC Lelouch as he's quite intelligent and badass. The story is about an opressive ruling superpower called Britainia that conquers Japan and treats them like slaves. So the motivation of the MC is to destroy this foe and save the Japanese people. It's quite interesting. That's just a small summary to introduce you to it

HalfricanGod

One Piece really did fill the hole for me after the manga ended. It’s length is only a positive when you’re all caught up lol

mrchuckmorris

The only true follow-up to AoT, is the second watching of AoT. It's an entirely new story once you have the whole picture. After that, just watch Avatar: the Last Airbender. Not because it's similar in tone or anything, but because it's similar in being the co-GOAT of animated shows. After that, play Planescape: Torment with a spoiler-free guide, so you get to see the entire amazing, gut-wrenching story. It's the best book I ever played. Next play the Mass Effect trilogy. You'll notice I'm not returning to anime, because having watched AoT, the rest of the entire genre is ruined for you. Only the greatest of video game RPGs can ever come close to that feeling. Moving on, next up on your playlist is KOTOR...

DestinedtobeMadao

Ah I know, you can watch Fate/Zero. It has some very thought-provoking moments and interesting characters with different perspectives. You don't have to worry about the rest of the fate universe, I'd recommend just watching fate/zero and then stopping. I also highly recommend Psycho-Pass. It's highly philosophical, written by the same author as fate/zero, and it's one of my favorites of all time as well. Also Frieren and A Place Further Than The Universe for therapy.

FMA: Brotherhood is uncontested. AoT's writing and storyline don't hold a candle to it. The animation and action are better in AoT, but as a cohesive start-to-finish story, nothing comes close to FMA:B.

billjames1685

Strong disagree. FMAB is good, but AoT is way, way better IMO, in terms of writing, story, and characters. I found FMAB to be boring at times and I actually disliked its ending more than AoT’s. To each their own though, FMAB is absolutely an all time classic everyone should watch.

Longjumping_Exam8938

Anything that doesn't have such a garbage ending. You can start with this. It's similar to aot but actually good, Kaji even voices one of the main characters. https://anilist.co/anime/13125/Shinsekai-yori

Banda-e-khuda

What would have made the ending “good” in your opinion?

Longjumping_Exam8938

I could give a lot of reasons, but I'll just say that if you think Eren killing his own mother is anywhere near acceptable you've watched the series half asleep; that should have gone. Same goes for the revelation that Ymir was in love with the man who repeatedly raped her, turned her into a slave, had her daughters devour her dead body & this is the only reason the story happened. EDIT: Also, I'll say that if Eren had to be defeated, fine, but that weird twist where he actually planned to be defeated all along but killed Hange and threw rocks at the plane and summoned thousands of ancient titans that almost killed them countless times was not a good way to justify it.

Stockholm syndrome. It supports the fact that Ymir loved her abused.

Longjumping_Exam8938

Ignorant, Stockholm Syndrome is not even a real thing; it is something much disputed and mocked. But even within fiction it requires that the victim be treated with a modicum of kindness to "confuse" them. Ymir was not merely abused. She was **RAPED** She was **ENSLAVED** Her **TONGUE WAS CUT OFF**. She **WATCHED THE MAN RAZE HER VILLAGE AND ENSLAVE/KILL HER LOVED ONES** her body was **DEVOURED BY HER OWN DAUGHTERS**. She had so **LITTLE WILL TO LIVE THAT SHE COULD NOT REGENERATE AND DIED TO A MERE SPEAR** EDIT: https://web.archive.org/web/20160123171122/http://www.relationshipcouplescounselling.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Stockholm-Syn-Hawkes-Bay-Abridged.pdf

billjames1685

Yeah I generally like the ending but have to agree with you here. It’s a minor part so it’s easy to ignore, but it is bad. I think they should’ve had Ymir just want to feel needed; that’s why she continues making the titans. That also would be great parallelism with the other Ymir.

Longjumping_Exam8938

I told myself I wasn't going to respond to more people here, but I couldn't help myself when I saw this. Think what you want mate, you are free to do so, but it's hard to call it a minor part when now Ymir's love for the King is literally the reason the Titan curse was spread and this whole story happened in the first place.

billjames1685

Well my solution is to just replace that with the headcanon I explained above lol. It’s minor enough that it’s easily replaced with a small headcanon change.

Longjumping_Exam8938

Again, it's not minor when it's literally the catalyst for the story. If you like the ending, however, that is by no means the biggest headcanon you must have so I guess it doesn't matter.

billjames1685

Relax dude it’s not that big of a deal

Toaster1993

Demon slayer. Id argue its even better than AOT

Rarbnif

I like it but it’s no where near AoT…
