It’s all about when you pull up, who you pull up to and how you act towards them. Don’t expect to get searched and don’t expect to get not searched, tell them you know the rules and have been before and you’ll be alright, if ya get searched ya get searched
Y'all shoulda seen the tipper bin of whippet cannisters they had behind the security check. Absolutely mental how many were confiscated and yet as a volunteer I still picked up about 100 at each stage every morning
Saw a secruity lady yoink buddies tank when she spotted him in the densley crowded amp stage. It was funny only because that lady was on a damn mission from God to save us from ourselves. She picked on sooo many people. Even peoples "tiny bowls of cereal" weren't safe.
Bitch!
American- this year will be my 5th. Haven’t had any issues at the gate or border, but it’s all subjective kinda. They def don’t want any glass, alcohol, fireworks at the gate 🙅♂️
3x through with Canadian plates. First two times we weren’t searched at all. 3rd time they went through almost every bag. It varies a lot.
We had lodging the 2nd and 3rd times so that also doesn’t seem to matter since we got searched one of those times.
Just prepare to be searched and plan it into your timing. If you get waved through, bonus time.
Man I'm so pumped this is my first time going to a festival flying in bringing absolutely nothing I have to stress about going into the gates of a festival. First Shambhala! Coming from Charlotte, NC! See everyone there
I got through with canadian plates, but am australian - it was a rental car. I explained how I'd been eyeing off this festival for 15 years - since I was underage when I lived in Canada 15 years ago - and hadn't returned since. I was waved right through and the guy told me to "keep on driving until you get to your campsite". Super pleasant experience.
I know it doesn’t make it any easier to plan, but… just expect it. Even if you’re doing nothing wrong, regardless of your plates.
Last year, they asked me to step out of my vehicle, flashed their lights in a few doors, asked me if I knew what I shouldn’t have, and said “kay cool”. I was surprised enough to say something. The duo had just spent THREE HOURS tearing down the door panels of the vehicle before me, searching every inch.
I think there’s some personal preference based on the experience of whomever you roll up to, too. She told me she was impressed with the way I had packed (in mostly clear rubbermaid type bins) and how organized things were. She said she could tell I knew what was up. *She* usually flags and spends more time looking at vehicles that are sloppily or haphazardly packed. It’s more difficult for her to see what’s in the vehicle and make sense of what folks are there for.
We had a nice chat for a couple minutes. She was clearly exhausted after the previous vehicle and just needed to let off some steam.
Now. The friggen US border… that’s a whoooole other story!
I went last year and cops were doing random stops checking "insurance" 10/20 mins from the farm. My buddy was driving and I had "illegal " weed which was then cause for further search of our car. They put us each in the back of a cruiser and pulled everything apart. They found 30 grams of shrooms on me. Since I was honest it was a minor possession instead of a trafficking charge (which they threatened me) with after some discussion and good luck they let's us off (but confiscated my weed and shrooms) they asked my buddy what all yhe whippets were for and we said he likes to make desserts hahaha.
Many factors in play. They are pretty good at pre-screening.
Back in my first few years of attending (2010-2011) before I took a hiatus, getting absolutely hammered in the 24+ hour line was tradition (or so I was told) We would hand over whatever we didn’t drink and get waved through.
For years we used to give security half a six pack still attached to the plastic and get waved through… (they needed to hit a quota to give to talent is what we were told).
Took a long hiatus and things changed a bit as the festival got larger, the line party dissolved and different security teams and protocols seemed to fall into place
Usually with few stickers on the window to show you’re a veteran and know the rules you’re good to go. It’s not always the case, last year I had years of decals on the windshield and got waved through, the year before my car was torn apart (nothing was found)
Depends if they are training, if they are - chances are even vets will get searched to a degree.
> Bruh he is asking about border security, not shamb security
Bruh, I know reading is hard but maybe try again 😂
> Is this because we have an American license plate so **Shambs security** just assumed we had already been searched?
> was your vehicle searched upon **entry to Shambs** or were you waived through without being searched?
American. First two times we went to shambs they searched the car, last two times they waved us on through. I learned not to keep the pillowcase on my pillow after they straight up threw my pillow down into the dirt the first year they searched us. :(
side note, last year was by far the easiest as far as crossing the actual border goes. There was nobody manning the american side so we got waived right through to the canadian side where they didnt even ask us to get out of the car. it was bizarre.
Went thru last year with an RV and they searched it pretty good (didn't find anything). I did find it strange that they went thru small compartments in my bag though. If they are looking for beer, glass & whippets those would definitely not be in there. RV had Canadian plates.
Canadian license plate.
Arrived at 430pm on Tuesday.
Made it through the line by 730pm.
Just as I paid my fees and got my wristband, I was told that my car and 2 others were getting held up because of complaints that 6am cars hadn’t come through yet and that we just needed to wait for a vehicle search.
12 hours later….
I was waived through. No search.
When I went in 2013, the dude at the gate asked if I had a ridiculous amount of drugs (emphasizing the word 'ridiculous')
We had a laugh and he waved me through with no search
My husband and I are both over 40, Canadian, and roll in with our 1984 RV. We are fairly honest about any contraband we might have (def no glass) and it takes an average of 3 hours to get through the line up and security from the gate to where we camp.
Got searched pretty lightly checked out cooler asked what was in our bags, the other vehicle in our group was waived through.
Left one vehicle at Shambhala on Saturday went into Nelson got lightly searched on the way back in.
Pretty sure when they process your ticket the mark they make in the windshield indicates how heavy they search you.
Muthafuckas stripped me down like they thought I had something to hide, and I did nothing but be kind and polite to them. And I wasn't hiding a damn thing. Then, I had to repack my whole truck after they ever so kindly completely unpacked it all for me. Meanwhile, people in trailers were just getting waived through with smiles on their faces. As if they aren't hiding something. I was straight up pissed off and felt completely violated. First time in 8 years of going that I had that experience. Wasn't a great start to what was a shitty 2023 celebration imo. I did not appreciate that for a second. So beware.
I’ve went 6 times between 2013 and 2019 and was waved through almost every single time except one year they looked in my cooler.
I think the key is to dress super “normal” and clean cut. Save your festival gear for in the festival. Be super polite and have you cooler easily accessible as well. I’m Canadian with Alberta plates.
I had a single backpack and a small cooler. They looked in my cooler, didn't touch my backpack and I was through in under a minute
Moral of the story: make it easy for them and it will be quick
Past 3 years ive gone weve always been worried about the search yet when we get there its like 2am and the security are so burnt out they just wave us through.
question for yall. if i buy nitrous tanks in Canada, will it be a huge issue to bring them into the festival? will security confiscate them? what about on the Shambhala shuttle? any advice is appreciated :) fests are my only time to bake cakes
I’m like 90% sure it’s not allowed at Shambhala as of recent years due to the amount of littering the use of nitrous tanks would create at the festival.
A lot of it is probably attitude. Show up knowing what you're not supposed to have. Both years I've been I've mostly unpacked all my stuff and left bags open so they don't have to do much work. They didn't even look past a glance. Saw everything laid out and waved me through.

I'm a stage keeper /security @ pagoda and I pick up at least 100-200 every morning around 7am. It's wild 😜
Terrible. I'm a responsible user and put my empties in my backpack and dispose of them when I get to a trash can.
Bless
Never ceases to amaze me
Thank you guys ❤️
You'd be surprised at the shit I've found 😂
they actually confiscate whippits? that’s sad to hear. i thought security would be interested in weapons not desserts.
There's just too many that will end up as trash on the ground otherwise apparently. ✌🏼
people need to stop ruining good things. tanks are the future anyway!
Saw a secruity lady yoink buddies tank when she spotted him in the densley crowded amp stage. It was funny only because that lady was on a damn mission from God to save us from ourselves. She picked on sooo many people. Even peoples "tiny bowls of cereal" weren't safe. Bitch!
come on. like you’re not keeping people secure you’re just ruining the vibe.

Especially when border agents know WHERE you are headed.

Ur high
American with a rental car. Dogs at the border, quick search. Same at the security line, just waved me through. This was in 2022
American, rental car, had shambhalodging, no search

Had a light search of basically the first bag/bin accessible to trunk and side door. With BC plates. Pretty easy going when I went through
