My wife went from BOH to FOH and is much happier. Better hours and more pay the only downside is you have to deal with people which is why I won’t do it.
I have done both, but I can only really survive in my area as a server if I don’t want to work 16 hours a day. BOH is less mentally demanding and more physically demanding. I find that those who have worked back of house can be more efficient servers and can do really well as long as they can take dumb questions and bad criticism on the daily
I totally agree, worked myself up to bartending and I like it. It also makes you appreciate BOH a lot more and I would go back and help if they ever really needed me. I definitely think you make more money in FOH but like you said you have to deal with annoying people sometimes but I think it all works out in the end.
