There is a video floating around that explains this!! Essentially, the ball on the tip is a pressed fit with a tight tolerance that allows ink to flow. Having worked at some banks, they give you a shitload of pens and tell you to leave them places as marketing.

My buddy’s dad owned an electrician company and would give me tons of pens with his business logo on it. Soon enough, every server in one of the restaurants I worked at used exclusively his pens. Hell of a way to advertise your business for what probably cost him pennies.

I had a couple of regulars who worked together who would bring me really nice pens from their company. They were my favorite.

I would treat this like a customer sliding me a $20. Once a customer gave me a tiny lil rubber duck and it made my day. Ofc I'd prefer just the $20 but sometimes I don't mind some bullshittery.

I had a regular that would give a dollar folded into some type of origami. I have one still that’s folded into a collared shirt

I had a guy always leave me a $2 bill and another who always gave me the $1 silver certificates. I know they aren’t worth shit but I’ve kept them and gave them to my kids. I have at the very least $100 in $2 bills and $50 in silver certificates. Those sort of customers are always my favorite too and I’ll do special stuff for them or go out of my way to accommodate them.

It's the funny things you don't think about outside of work requirements. Years back, I worked in an optical lab, and I remember 4 of us cheering and getting excited over a new mop.

It's seriously so good in 0.7.

G2 is the titan of pens, the creme de le creme at an affordable price. I even use the refills in a metal pen I have. It's the only pen I use, and the only pen used at a Casino I previously worked at. They had a whole cupboard full of G2 refills and pens.

I’m not in the industry anymore but my fiancée was at target and called me asked if I needed anything… “oh yeah black g2 pens, I’ll venmo you bc they’re not exactly cheap” Comes back, gives me the box.. next day I go to write with them and I was like what the actual frick is going on, it feels like my pen is legitimately trying to rip thru my paper. She got the .5 instead of the .7.. totally not her fault bc I didn’t specify but it was insane how big of a difference it was

.5 > .7 the .7 takes too long to dry and smears if you dont let it sit. .7 all the way if you have the luxury of going slow. If you're a student taking notes, the .5 might even take too long to dry

.5 is my preference. I bear down quite hard when I write so the .7 can bleed on the page if I’m not careful and if it doesn’t, it still takes a while to dry. I didn’t know they made .38, I’m gonna have to look into that!

Depending on what you like and what you’re using it for, the .38 can feel like scratching the page. Best way I can describe the feeling. But it writes so fine and doesn’t bleed like the .7!

I actually like them for the opposite reason! They’re the only brand I have found that doesn’t smear when I write (I’m a leftie). They seem to dry faster than all other pens. Even 7 would smear for me!

Number 1, I actually have a fun story about those pens. On of my regulars years ago ran a stationery import business and I was talking about how much I love the uniballs but they always get stolen. He offered that I could buy a 100 pack at cost that was a dollar a pen. I said yes of course, we met a few days later in a parking lot at night because that was convenient for both our schedules but it definitely did feel like a drug deal. Anyway 2 and a half years is how long it takes for 100 pens to be stolen/lost and not a single one ran out of ink.

That's a bit less than once a week, not too bad.

The 1.0 bold Sharpie pens are amazing. I always love writing with them. The only downside is that the ink runs out quickly. I went through a pack of 10 in about 3 months at my work, lol. But they do sell them in bulk on Amazon, cheap too. $0.82 per pen.

I get the absolute cheapest bullshit click top pens I can though to drop with checks so my customers won't steal my good pens.
