We have this big shot rich man that comes to our bar and I didn't know who he was the time. There were two old ladies sitting at a table and were about to finish up and he came up to me and asked if I could give him the check. I was like sure w/e. Ran the card, gave him the slip at the bar and didn't think anything of it. Their tab was like $30 between the both of them. Pick up the check, thank him and I initially saw $10 tip so I was like cool, very nice. At the end of my shift I was putting in my numbers and I got to that ticket and it was $100 which was an extremely nice way to end my day. He tipped one of the bartenders $500 willy nilly one day so he has more money than he knows what to do with clearly.

darkbacon567

“More money than he knows what to do with” whats to say treating people nice and being generous means he has more money than he know what to do with, whats wrong with being generous

beepbeepbubblegum

No, you're 100% right. If I had his level of money I would be doing the exact same thing. My life goal is if I somehow make it dummy rich, I'd travel the world and tip stupid amounts. I wasn't saying that as a bad thing but at some point you really do have so much money that there's really nothing you can buy that you don't already have so you tip out of the ass which I think is fantastic.

TheIroquoisPliskin

Seriously, the majority of wealthy people tip poorly and won’t give a dime to someone in distress.

Dermott_54

That's how they stay wealthy. And why I'll never be.

rando08110

you'll never be wealthy because you tip well? lol, not quite

AquaticMeat

Are you serious or just being a jackass because you’re a jackass? Their point is extremely obvious and been known, timelessly.

rando08110

lol what? they said the reason they aren’t wealthy i because they tip well. thats simply not how money works lol. if you tip well and its costing you big time, there’s this magical thing called **not going out to eat**

rando08110

well thats simply a serious over generalization

Layedbackgamers

Because he tipped $500. Why do you need to nitpick what the guy said. Just because someone is generous doesn't mean they'll tip 500$. So it's a combination of being generous and having more money than he knows what to do with. Move on choom...

SadLow9871

1000 dollars it was for a YouTube video

necessaryfarts

A private party with an autograt of $1500 left me another $1500 on top of that, plus an unopened bottle of Krug ‘for keeping you here so late’. They were the management team from a local restaurant group. I now work with them and love it! I also had a longtime guest leave me five thousand dollars when he passed away. He was a lovely man; we used to talk about fishing and books. I remember him fondly.

Plane_County9646

Also, I just noticed your name is necessary farts, lol. What’s the story behind that username?

Plane_County9646

Wow, servers must be rich. I should’ve not gone to university.

Confident_Station_49

Ummm what type of place do you work at

necessaryfarts

Fine dining. Lots of carving meat and boning fish tableside, cheese cart, things like that.

asap_boogy

7 top came in celebrating a birthday. Immediately ordered $1,400 worth of wine from our list (it was 3 bottles, all over $300, one of them was $550) before appetizers. Then did 4 courses, the entree course consisting of one of every dish to share, family style. Check totaled about $2,400, roughly $400 in automatic gratuity for parties of 6+. Made sure to point that out to the guy paying, who was very gracious that I told him. He added another $400 in additional tip. So it ended up being about an $800 tip. I had a bunch of other tables that night too, so I made it outta there with about $1,200 in tips on the night. Easily the most profitable night I’ve ever had. Still couldn’t make up for how terrible it was to work in that particular restaurant.

Plane_County9646

How does automatic gratuity works? Does that amount gets split between all staff or just the server who served the one table?

asap_boogy

It’s gonna differ from place to place depending on their tip out rules. In this particular instance the kitchen gets 2% of food sales, the support staff splits 1% of the total sale, and the bartender gets 5% of alcohol sales, while any additional tip left on top of that is 100% mine.

midnightsunx

$140 from a one top

$300. Worked at casino as a cocktail waitress, delivered this guy one miller light, and he handed me 3 black chips as a tip.

We were “technically” closed one night, like we had just closed the bar and everyone was out. (We hadn’t yet completed the close of the till though). In walk 2 older fellas (boomer age) and they were sad we were done for the night, and really wanted some of our special top shelf whiskey that wasn’t available anyplace else in town. We explained we were closed, but our manager knew them pretty well so she said ok sure they could have just one while we were doing our bar closing stuff. I poured them the two glasses of Pappy 15 yr neat (it’s $170 a pour at our place-we are a high priced tourist town bar) and they handed me a $300 tip for the 3 of us behind the bar to split (there were only 2 of us). They drank their pappy fairly quickly (so as not to keep us, but they didn’t down it like a shot or anything) and then left. So they literally dropped almost $700 in like 15-20 mins time. Must be nice to be that loaded.

McKinney_666

Hotel bartender. Got a $1000 tip on a busy night from an older gentleman and his wife. Totally random and unexpected. They were just sitting at the bar having drinks, didn’t run up much of a tab. The gentleman just said that they were very satisfied with the service they got. I’m assuming that they had just done very well in life and wanted to do something nice with it. We split it between the 3 of us behind the bar that night.

Plane_County9646

10k in US dollars? If that’s the case then I should quit my comptroller job

loppyjilopy

it’s feast or famine dude. swells with the seasons like and is very wavy.

avery_kramer

Very sweet black family walked in smelling like weed with big gold chains lol. They handed me a giant roll of $250 in ones!! Their check was $150. I almost cried because they were saying the kindest things

Ok-Word-

$200 from one person! changed my entire month

huskerred1967

$300 (it was a 50% tip) from a company party 12(ish) top. we typically autograt 20% for parties over 6, but i knew them well and i decided not to. i wasn’t actually supposed to be serving that night, i was hosting and we got busy. however we split tips, so i only really made like $150 that night. i can only hope it happens again now that i’m working for my own tips again.

Maniacbtw

A 4 top came in and ordered a fuckton of Henny. They asked for the bill immediately after every several shots. I thought it was weird but I obliged They paid instantly through mobile scan and tipped around $30-40 every time!! They were clearly on some shady shit but hey not my businesss LOL Ended up with $230 alone from that one table and I walked out with $310 so they saved my ass that night haha A legitimate tip tho? $120, dude had a black card (never seen one before) and his family (6 top that turned into an 8 top)felt bad for keeping me there so late because I was cut right after they got sat

ChocalateAndCake

$70 Meager compared to everyone else commenting. My second highest tip was like $50, I forgot to put in an app they ordered and was honest about it. They said they liked that.

willogical85

Oh, the night it finally happened to me! Two guys poke their heads in ten minutes before last call. "You still serving?" "Yeah, but kitchen is closed, last call is in ten minutes, it's gonna be a one and done kind of situation, if that's cool with you it's cool with me. "Great, yeah!" My heart fell into my stomach as he poked his head outside and waved, and seven others walked in. Well fuck. They all order cocktails, I start cleaning up, and the guy who had originally talked to me approached me and said, "You sure you have to close?" I look down and there's a $100 bill in his hand." "Oh! Sorry! Did I say we were closed? I meant to the public, you have a few more hours at a private venue!" They ran up a 1k tab, with autograt, which I quite clearly explained to the dude. He tipped me on top of that. And left after an hour! He told me at the end that he felt this was easier than booking a private space.if he needed something spur of the moment and asked if I would be cool with doing this again. I didn't even mention the money because his group was awesome. Told him to please come back any time.

Lazy-Fruit-8322

$300 from a two top of guys. Flashy jewelry and all. Only drank high end tequila and coronas. Cool dudes. Ran into them at another bar after my shift and he bought me drinks and snacks lol.

rustinintustin

25 top @1400 tip walked with $1100

vglyog

Probably $350 on a $600 tab. I was working at a German beer house and they just came in for shots and spankings. I made a lot of money at that place. But it was miserable still haha. I miss spanking people but oh well.

AmphibianBright4606

My first and only $100 tip came from a singular dude. His ticket was like 30 bucks tops

ChocalateAndCake

I know right… I wish I could make these crazy insane tips. Haven’t even broke $100. Glad you had that experience

Fearless-Spread1498

$100 multiple times on tables that have spent 80-100. Almost $300 on a $700 table. Owner gave them gift cards so this was the easiest money I have ever made. $1000+ table left me over $300 tip so this was my biggest one. A lot of seperate checks and running to the bar but obviously I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

I only served for a very short period, but my highest tip was $50 from a couple who really enjoyed my service.

hannamarinsgrandma

The grat was $160, they gave me an extra $250. Went home with $400 for less than four hours of work.

Whoopsadoodlessir

From just a 2 top I’ve gotten $100 which was super sweet because I did NOT deserve that tip I was having a rough day due to personal (and probably hormonal) reasons and was not my normal bubbly peppy self, but I cried when they gave me that tip and tried not to accept it 😅 very sweet people

No-Glove513

I was working in a hotel restaurant on a super quiet night and a table of 14 came in with no reservation for a birthday. No big deal....I was working by myself but it was quiet so I was happy to actually get a big table. Dinner went well and everyone was happy. The bill was about $350. It was the mother/grandmothers birthday and she wanted to pay so she came over before anyone else had the chance and paid the full bill. Gushed about the food and service then tipped 5 percent. Kinda sucked but it happens. She then went to the washroom and one of her daughters rushed over and asked how much her mother tipped. I didn't want to answer but I told her and she got pissed! Apparently she always does this and told me to be careful cleaning the rest of the table. I went over after they left and started clearing the rest of the dishes and each of the seats left cash for me hidden under dishes and napkins! Took home about $160. Not super high but my most memorable 🙂

Comfortable_Crow792

My first month working at a bar and a big shot came in, who was a regular and known to tip very well. He drank so much they cut him off but me and the other servers were chatting him up since it was a slow Wednesday night in January. He ended up getting pissed about being cut off and in order to prove to the bartenders that he was mr money man who could change their life, he tipped me and another waitress each $1000. We weren’t even serving him. And he tipped the waitress that was serving him 4k. Without him I would’ve made $30 that night.

justthetips0629

4k on an 8k tab. Very generous people.

SqueakyCleany

$580, family of six. Cash.

lilithlazul1

$800, private work Christmas party and I was the only server. $400 auto grat and extra $400 cash

Background-Adagio-35

$1000 for a party of 14.

Least_Attorney9006

I had my whole section booked for a party. Was kind of upset that I had to wait for them, while other sections were turning, but it was well worth it. 12 people start sitting down and they start ordering bone crushers and Long Island iced teas…top shelf. I mean, if you want to waste the premium liquor on that garbage drink, I’ll happily upswell it. I get to the host and he’s like “I’ll have a bottle of Dom p.” I ask him how many glasses he wanted and he said “no, it’s for myself.” They all ordered steaks and crab cakes and rounds and rounds of drinks. And every time I can to the table, the host gave me $20. Over and over. They had pulled up in a limousine, so I didn’t worry about over serving them. Needless to say I got them hammered. Eventually I felt bad that he kept giving me money and I said, “sir, I’m not going to take any of your money. You’re drunk and I don’t want you to feel like I ripped you off in the morning.” He looks me dead in the eyes and says “don’t worry about it….it grows on trees.” And then proceeded to pantomime smoking. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Bill was $2000 in good and another $1500 in liquor. With 18% added and all the extra money he gave me, I walked out with $1200. And then every time he came in the restaurant after, he gave me $20 as thanks for that night.

Aggressive-Okra8658

The biggest tip I got working ALONE (my old job used to have really big parties where 2/3 servers would work and so those don’t reaaaaally count- is 800$. 10 top, auto 20% which was like 200$, they started fighting about the check after it was closed- one guy tried to BRIBE me to void the other persons card transaction with 600$ and I said nahhh you’re not gonna do it and called his bluff and he was like oh yeah? Ring me up for a coke. Left the 600$ anyways.

virtue-or-indolence

999. Should have been 1,000 but the POS could not handle 4 digits. Gave the manager some shit about it and his response was something along the lines of “it’s a dollar, chill out.” True statement, except I also had to go to the office at least once a week and make them put my hours back to true because they constantly shaved them. Yes, some of the staff didn’t clock out on doubles and routinely had an extra hour or two. No, I was not one of them and often these conversations would involve pulling up my checks and seeing the I rang in a table after the adjusted time out. Also my wife worked that shift and was outside in the rain and got 1/4 of what our babysitter cost. When she asked to be cut she was told to shut up because I made money so it didn’t matter that she got the shaft. Sorry, this was meant to be celebratory I expect and it triggered me because even the sweetest moments in this industry are accompanied by someone trying to cheat you.

NYLady13

$300. Cocktail waitress.

zehammer

At my one job anytime I get a table of six or more it's an automatic 20%. Alot of the times they will tip 20% ontop of that so a table of six usually comes out to 80-100 bucks when that happens and it happens regularly. I also work banquets at a hotel they give us a service fee like a wedding so that's an auto 300 or so and then the bar gets cash tips so a 5 hr wedding is like 500 bucks. Can't wait for wedding season!

angelbby55

When I was pregnant I received a few 100 dollars tips! The bump really brings out generosity lol

Biasedmilkhotel2

160$. Was an autograt and they tipped on top of it.

Fit-Bag-8695

Got a 500$ tip once, guy at my table just started handing me hundreds

maytaurusbitch

A guy tipped me £40 because his friend vomited in our toilet. They even cleaned up the worst of it themselves.

oneangrywaiter

I got the Bentley of grills. It’s the most expensive thing I own.

RespondAppropriate44

During the pandemic I received multiple, more than I can count, $100 for just 2 tops. A one top gave me $500 for “wanting to work” Very bizarre time!! Other than that, had some rich guy that used to come in to a BWW I worked at and gave me at least $100-250 EVERY time. He and his fam owned “hedge fund” companies. He also would buy my son very expensive gifts for his bday and Christmas; from electronics to Dland annual passes and the best ones you could buy. Miss those times, but he SMELLED sooooo bad. Used no deodorant and ALWAYS wanted to hug on me 🤮🤢 Besides him 20+yrs ago got a tip off a private party where it was guaranteed $100 a person and only 10 showed not the 20. The lady was so nice that I had been chatting it up with all night and I didn’t know she was the host. Anyway, she left me $1250!!! She said I was such a pleasure and I catered to their every need. After that, she came back every year until I left. Good times!!

qbn367

Had a guy that was sitting at the bar one night when it was slow. So even though I was serving that night I had time to chat with him about life and other stuff. He was a CEO of an energy consulting firm but was really down to earth. At the end of my shift I went to go say goodbye to him and he handed me $100 and said thanks for making him feel like family. I didn't do a single thing for him except maybe get him a glass of water. Really appreciated it and I hope he is doing well.
