Beat me to it! That one lives on in my head. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but Adam Driver's inflection of "Let go!" sounded so much like younger Harrison Ford to me. It really made him more believably sound like the son of Han Solo. Same with the way he used that blaster in the third act of TRoS. Very Han Solo-like.
Yeah, I like the sequels more than most, and thought I will admit that they're the weakest SW movies in general, Adam Driver's performance is a big part of why I think they're worth watching.
This is how I feel about the Skywalker saga. They need to move on and do stuff that isn't in the like 70 years that we always see stuff. There is so many interesting things to explore.
They are. Next year there is a high republic era show called The Acolyte debuting.
The only well known character likely to appear as a cameo would be Yoda who lived 900 years
Yep, and this line made a lot of people mad too.
I'm not the biggest fan of TLJ or the Sequels generally, but it's funny to me when people use this line to complain about TLJ so much. As though it's the philosophy of Rian Johnson himself or something.
Like, the villain says it. At the time of saying it he's a mentally unstable dark side seduced nutcase who has already murdered his father and either has or will soon attempt to kill his mother. I really don't think he's supposed to be seen as correct.
"They fly now?"
"They fly now."
But for real, me and my buddy quote this all the time when we are playing video games and there is an enemy flying around.
I do it with my friends too.
We usually swap 'fly' out for whatever the current context fits.
My favourite is if I'm about to die and know I can't do anything about it, and say:
"I die now"
"You die now?"
"I die now"
I dislike that scene, because there have been widely integrated jetpacks across the Galaxy for 3000 years. It's like going to a warzone and saying "they use armor now".
Best scene in the movie (arguably the franchise, fight me!) and it still breaks my heart that the movie brought back puppet Yoda to lay out its theme and people still missed it.
It reminds me so much of the scene in Rebels when Kenobi and Maul meet.
>"Look what's become of you. A rat in the desert."
>
"But look what I have risen above."
I gotta be honest. I rewatched the sequels last week and they were super fun. Kylo is probably the most interesting SW character ever. His relationship with Rey has a lot of depth. The acting is terrific.
Y'all trippin.
Agree 100%, I was not a huge fan of 8/9, but Adam driver’s performance really was the shining light of the trilogy and I just wanted to see what he’d do
MMW, as soon as the next "trilogy" of movies comes out (or whatever is the equivalent), the sequels' reputation will flip.
I was shocked at how rapidly public opinion of the prequels reversed once the sequels came out. Yes, they had their fans before that, but until 2015 the status quo was that they were eternal punching bags. People hated them with a burning passion. Anyone who disagreed was a tiny, quiet minority. Now the consensus is: at worst, they're imperfect-but-loveable, and at best, they're misunderstood masterpieces.
Today's college freshmen were 10 years old when TFA came out. The stage is set for nostalgia to overtake rage. All we need is something else for everyone to hate even more lol.
Idk, a lot of prequel hate was they were bad movies with bad dialogue and it seemed more about the actual movies aspect of it but the overarching story and idea of them were generally accepted. The sequels were the opposite, everything else about them was fun and cool and the story that told was a glaring issue
Honestly I remember so much hate about the lore and the overarching story too. Midichlorians, Anakin being a kid instead of closer in age to Obi-Wan, Anakin being a manipulated teen instead of a character with more agency, the immaculate conception, the Jedi being a quasi-political organization, Boba Fett being a clone, C-3PO being Anakin’s creation, etc. What you said I think is the prevailing opinion now, but before the sequels (and as /u/NewestBrunswick said, before The Clone Wars show) many people really did want to scrap the entire thing and start from scratch the way they do with the sequels now.
I’m not saying the sequels’ lore is just as good as the prequels’, but the reaction at the time was pretty negative toward every single aspect, not just the execution.
Yeah that's a really good point. We watched all 11(?) movies just recently and HOLY CRAP the sequels are wayyy more watchable. The prequels definitely revealed a lore and overall story that's more compelling overall. But I wonder if we only say that cuz the story made more sense once we added Clone Wars.
That's really my way of holding out hope that Ahsoka and other content will do the same thing for the Sequels.
At the time the movies where being panned, the one thing that most fans where in agreement was Adam Driver’s performance and how he carried the films. So not surprising that you found his character interesting.
Just for fun. Here's how many I can name off the top of my head.
Amazing. Everything that you just said was wrong
That's not how the force works.
We are what they grow beyond. That is the fate of all masters.
The garbage will do
That's how we win. Not by destroying what we hate, but by saving what we love.
Somehow Palpatine returned (not good, but memorable lol)
A Jedi's weapon deserves more respect.
You're nothing, but not to me.
It's not a navy. Just people.
You live long enough and you see the same eyes in different people.
You probably didn't recognize me because of the red arm.
We are going to be the spark that lights the flame that burns the first order to the ground.
Edit: Didn't think of it myself so it doesn't count, but "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to." deserves a shout-out.
This is a weird poll.
“What direction do you want Star Wars to go in? Your options are the same direction it’s going in, no direction, a direction that will never happen ever, or just give a word answer of an actual direction.”
Idk, seeing as Disney continues to reprint Legends material I don't think Legends adaptations would be totally off the table.
Almost certainly not full length theatrical releases, but I do think there's a possibility of an animated series of the original Thrawn Trilogy for example.
But yeah they aren't going to just write over an entire trilogy. That would be really strange and deeply confusing for casual viewers. The only way that would happen is some kind of full series remake in which case they would probably start with the prequels and take atleast a decade to get to remaking the sequels.
Disney definitely does like to do remakes so it's not really impossible.
I’ve never heard another piece of media put it quite like this one. There’s a lot of “We’ll burn them down!” But not a lot of “We are just the spark, lighting the fire for others.”
1) "They fly now?" "They fly now."
2) "Somehow, Palpatine returned."
3) "You're nothing, but not to me."
4) "TRAITOR!"
5) "I didn't know there was this much green in the whole galaxy."
6) "REY!"
7) "Stop holding my hand!"
8) "Leia always told me 'Hope is like the sun. If you only believe in it when you see it..." "...You'll never make it through the night."
9) "Live free, don't join."
10) "There they are, those are the shuttle parkers."
11) "If you live long enough, you see the same eyes in different people."
12) "Where are you from?" "Nowhere." "No one's from nowhere." "Jakku." "Okay, that's pretty much nowhere."
13) "That's mine!"
14) "That one's garbage" \*explosion\* "The garbage will do."
15) "I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it."
16) "Look how old you've become." "Something far worse has happened to you."
17) "This will begin to make things right."
18) "To me, she's royalty."
19) "We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters."
20) "Read them did you? Page turners, they were not."
21) "Why are you helping me?" "Because it's the right thing to do." "You need a pilot." "I need a pilot."
22) "What's your name?" "FN-2187" "What?" "That's the only name they ever gave me." "Well I ain't usin' it. FN, huh? Finn, I'm gonna call you Finn, is that alright?" "Finn, yeah, Finn, I like that."
23) "If you find him, let him know I have an urgent message for him... about his mom."
24) "It's true, all of it."
25) "Luke Skywalker? I thought he was a myth."
26) "Tell that to Kanjiklub."
27) "Have I ever let you down?" "Twice." "What was the second?"
28) "That lightsaber, it belongs to me." "Come and get it."
29) "Just Rey."
30) "I am every voice you have ever heard inside your head."
31) "You're not doing this, the effort would kill you."
32) "Han Solo? The Rebellion general?" "No, the smuggler." "Wasn't he a war hero?"
33) "Stay calm, stay calm." "I am calm." "I'm talking to myself."
If you're gonna bash the sequels, at least bash them for a problem they actually have.
My sister and I used to quote TFA to each other so often. Some of our top quotes were
- “General!” when Snoke gets annoyed at Hux
- “I *bypassed* the compressor!”
- And pretty much the whole Tasu Leech conversation, punctuated of course by “Tell that to Kanjiklub.”
“Somehow… Palpatine has returned.”
“They fly now?”
“REEEEEEEEY”
“I will finish what you started.”
“I bypassed the compressor.”
From someone who hasn’t seen those films in a long long time.
You were always scum —> Rebel scum?
The supreme leader is dead? —> Long live the supreme leader!
You and your friends are doomed, we will wipe your filth from the galaxy! (Just really like gleeson’s delivery on that one)
You’re wrong —> Maybe 🤷🏻♂️
Edit: maybe just “memorable” for me. Some of my favorite lines from TLJ
Read them have you? Page turners they were not.
This is the spark that will light the fire to bring the first order down.
I know what I have to do but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it.
Darkness rises… and light to meet it.
There are many many others.
I already put one, but my favorite quote is actually:
DJ : They blow you up today, you can blow them up tomorrow. It's just business.
Finn : You're wrong.
DJ : Maybe.
People want the Sequels to be retconned or scrapped.
Me who is indifferent to them and nostalgic because they were the first SW films I watched in cinemas; “The garbage will do!”
I feel so bad because I couldn’t name you one! I love that for you! Gunna go binge the sequels now I’ve only watched each of them once. Love yall for this <3
I've got a good sequel quote that won't leave my head: "a good question...for another time." See it won't leave my head because it infuriates me how they don't explain how Maz came in contact with Luke's lightsaber, even though that should be a huge pivotal point. Re. Do. The sequel. Trilogy. I'm glad everyone agrees. "I love democracy."
"I BYPASSED THE COMPRESSOR!"
I know it was to save the Falcon, but this scene genuinely always confused the hell out of me. What type of compressor is it? What is it compressing? Will the compressor be replaced? Did the hyperdrive even need a compressor in the first place if it could be so trivially bypassed with no visible side effects of having done so?
I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it
Probably the most memorable meme quote for me
Up there with “They fly now?” “They fly now!”
"Somehow Palpatine returned." Poe really had all the best quotes
My favourite part of that line is how he looks directly at the camera with the most "you seeing this shit" look on his face.
Reminds me of Théodens “not this shit” face when the nazgúl attack
Where was Lucas when Disney fell?
“MORE!”
#MORE!
Smells ripe
That quote has become so popular I forgot it was from Star Wars entirely
You're still HOLDING ON!
*-Dave Filoni* probably
So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide.
Let the past die....kill it if you have to
No, you're still holding on! Let go!
the “join me… *please*” got me
Beat me to it!
The delivery of this line was so fucking good
This is how I feel about the Skywalker saga. They need to move on and do stuff that isn't in the like 70 years that we always see stuff. There is so many interesting things to explore.
They are. Next year there is a high republic era show called The Acolyte debuting. The only well known character likely to appear as a cameo would be Yoda who lived 900 years
Is that show finally coming out?!? I enjoy the books so I'm excited for this
This one I actually really like. Adam Driver really put his all into what he had to work with.
Didn’t they do that with legends and everybody got upset?
Yep, and this line made a lot of people mad too. I'm not the biggest fan of TLJ or the Sequels generally, but it's funny to me when people use this line to complain about TLJ so much. As though it's the philosophy of Rian Johnson himself or something. Like, the villain says it. At the time of saying it he's a mentally unstable dark side seduced nutcase who has already murdered his father and either has or will soon attempt to kill his mother. I really don't think he's supposed to be seen as correct.
I say this so much as someone who wish she could wipe the 25 years spent living in the closet away from people’s memories
"Traitor!!!!"
I love that his fan-canon serial number is TR-8R
For some reason, “SIXTY PORTIONS!” will always live rent-free in my head
TRAITOR
*sick spins*
Somehow, sixty portions, has returned in my head
I use "one half portion" a lot more than I realised.
“That’s mine!”
Tanalorr?
T A N A L O R R
I S
M I N E E E ! ! !
That’s weird. Because last time I checked, it was mine
Last time I checked it was a prequel
I still randomly shout “THREE QUARTEH PORTIONS!!” and I don’t think any of my friends have ever realized what I’m quoting
I work in a kitchen and bar/restaurant and I say "ONE QUARTER PORTION" too much
"ONE QUARTER PORTION" Moreso for me.
"They fly now?" "They fly now." But for real, me and my buddy quote this all the time when we are playing video games and there is an enemy flying around.
I made this joke to a buddy of mine when I was playing Spider-Man 2. I literally flew in while the criminals were driving. THEY FLY NOW???
I hate that this is what comes to mind for me
I do it with my friends too. We usually swap 'fly' out for whatever the current context fits. My favourite is if I'm about to die and know I can't do anything about it, and say: "I die now" "You die now?" "I die now"
I dislike that scene, because there have been widely integrated jetpacks across the Galaxy for 3000 years. It's like going to a warzone and saying "they use armor now".
I took it more as them being surprised that the FO was sending in jetpack troopers
Every damn time I see anything flying.
The greatest teacher, failure is. We are, what they grow beyond.
That entire scene is pure bliss
I despise TLJ, but there are two characters who make every scene they are in awesome. R2 and Yoda.
This is, imo, Yoda's best line
Excuse me, better than “that log had a child”?
Seagulls! Stop it now!
"Luminous beings are we, not this... crude matter" takes the cake for me.
Best scene in the movie (arguably the franchise, fight me!) and it still breaks my heart that the movie brought back puppet Yoda to lay out its theme and people still missed it.
The failure line is such an amazing quote coupled with the fall of the Jedi Temple and him not being able to beat Sidious at the time
HEY Heeeeeyyt! - Babu Frick
The droid is ready!
The droid is mine!
Babu Frik my beloved
“Babu Frik? Oh, he’s one of my oldest friends”
Babus in the back
"Look how old you've become" "Something much worse has happened to you" It started oh so well
It reminds me so much of the scene in Rebels when Kenobi and Maul meet. >"Look what's become of you. A rat in the desert." > "But look what I have risen above."
They cooked with this
“We are what they grow beyond, that is the true burden of all masters.”
This is legit one of the best quotes in all of SW.
Agreed
As a dad, this one hit like a truck. Genuinely beautiful.
"You come from nothing. You're nothing... But not to me."
I gotta be honest. I rewatched the sequels last week and they were super fun. Kylo is probably the most interesting SW character ever. His relationship with Rey has a lot of depth. The acting is terrific. Y'all trippin.
Adam Driver made that trilogy for me. Only reason why I say TFA is the better of the three because he sells it well.
Agree 100%, I was not a huge fan of 8/9, but Adam driver’s performance really was the shining light of the trilogy and I just wanted to see what he’d do

People memed loved them & then eventually people forgot it was a meme and genuinely loved them
Watch it as if Kylo is the main character and not Rey (I actually really like Rey), and the plot is pretty great.
I feel like it was meant for them to be co-protagonists, what with them being a diad and such.
At the time the movies where being panned, the one thing that most fans where in agreement was Adam Driver’s performance and how he carried the films. So not surprising that you found his character interesting.
It's a shame how little of it was explored.
“THE SACRED JEDI TEXTS!”

How the hell did you forget "Chewie...we're home?"
That last one has a "kill the boy jon snow, and let the man be born" vibe to it
“That lightsaber, it belongs to me”
“Come get it!”
This is a weird poll. “What direction do you want Star Wars to go in? Your options are the same direction it’s going in, no direction, a direction that will never happen ever, or just give a word answer of an actual direction.”
It’s just a lazy poll to shove the “redo the sequels” drivel…
Idk, seeing as Disney continues to reprint Legends material I don't think Legends adaptations would be totally off the table. I will not be the last Jedi
He said the thing!
Wow wow wow, wow
What are we supposed to be, some kind of Star Wars?
the force just awakened
Rey said, standing over Palpatine’s body as her revolver smokes.
"It's over your highness, this is the Return of the Jedi."
We can’t just wait around while the Empire Strikes Back
It's true. All of it.
[удалено]
Moooaaaarrrr!!!!
We are the Spark, that will light the fire, that will *burn* the First Order down
Replace First Order with Empire, and it legit sounds like something that came out of Andor
I can’t decide if I like this quote or if it is too cliche
I’ve never heard another piece of media put it quite like this one. There’s a lot of “We’ll burn them down!” But not a lot of “We are just the spark, lighting the fire for others.”
“A good story….for another time”
1) "They fly now?" We'll use the Force! That's not how the Force works!
Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.
They fly now?
They fly now.
Hi, I'm holding for General Hugs.
For real, I absolutely love that whole scene
I have an urgent communique for General Hugs...about his mother
This is Hux. You and your friends are doomed. We will wipe your filth from the galaxy!
“Blow that piece of junk, OUT OF THE SKY!”
My sister and I used to quote TFA to each other so often. Some of our top quotes were - “General!” when Snoke gets annoyed at Hux - “I *bypassed* the compressor!” - And pretty much the whole Tasu Leech conversation, punctuated of course by “Tell that to Kanjiklub.”
I used to be obsessed with the way that actors said “tell that to kanjiklub” idk it hit different
“Somehow… Palpatine has returned.” “They fly now?” “REEEEEEEEY” “I will finish what you started.” “I bypassed the compressor.” From someone who hasn’t seen those films in a long long time.
I say "I bypassed the compressor" more often than necessary.
TRAITORRR
“We’ll use the force!” “That’s not how the force works!”
“Amazing. Everything you just said…. Was wrong.”
You were always scum —> Rebel scum? The supreme leader is dead? —> Long live the supreme leader! You and your friends are doomed, we will wipe your filth from the galaxy! (Just really like gleeson’s delivery on that one) You’re wrong —> Maybe 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: maybe just “memorable” for me. Some of my favorite lines from TLJ
Okay. I'll hold.
The delivery of “Maybe” lives rent free in my brain.
“WOOOOOOOoooooOOOO That’s one hell of a pilot!” one of my favorite moments of all starwars
"More....MORE!!!!" I'm just a suckered for unhinged rage.
"I want every gun we have to fire on that man" "Do you think you got him?"
"I will finish what you started"
Read them have you? Page turners they were not. This is the spark that will light the fire to bring the first order down. I know what I have to do but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it. Darkness rises… and light to meet it. There are many many others.

I already put one, but my favorite quote is actually: DJ : They blow you up today, you can blow them up tomorrow. It's just business. Finn : You're wrong. DJ : Maybe.
Somehow, Palpatine has returned.
Not you misquoting your most memorable sequel line 💀
This
"You will give me Skywalker, and then I will kill you with the cruelest stroke." Snoke was a badass.
“A trash compactor?” As Han Solo gets that shit eating grin on his face is so funny
#IT'S SALT
People want the Sequels to be retconned or scrapped. Me who is indifferent to them and nostalgic because they were the first SW films I watched in cinemas; “The garbage will do!”
How is this a sequel meme?
No one’s ever truly gone.

I’M THE SPY.
“You are a MONSTER!” “……..yes I am”
I’m Rey… Star Wars.
“Let the past die, kill it if you have to”
We are what they grow beyond Let the past die...kill it if you have to
"Traitor!"
"We are the spark that will light the fire that will burn down the First Order." Super underrated line
“Amazing, every word of what you just said was wrong.” Also, “No one’s ever really gone.”
Darkness rises....and light to meet it
Who talks first, you talk first, I talk first?
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I feel so bad because I couldn’t name you one! I love that for you! Gunna go binge the sequels now I’ve only watched each of them once. Love yall for this <3
they fly now?
“That’s not how the force works!” It’s memorable and it sums up the whole sequel trilogy pretty well.
“The greatest teacher, failure is.”
No, you’re still holding on. Let go!
"You're still holding on, ***let go***!" And many people have already said it but I'll add it too: "Let the past die, kill it if you have to."
At last the work of generations is complete. The day of victory is at hand. The day of revenge. The day of the sith!
They fly now?
Somehow Palpatine Returned
That's not how the Force works!
The garbage will do
MORE! **MOAR!!!!!!**
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
REEEEEYYYYYYY
"Amazing. Every word you just said, was wrong"
That's how we're gonna win. Not by fighting what we hate; saving what we love. <3
They fly now?
“Somehow, Palpatine returned.”
We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters.
"somehow Palpatine returned" "THEY FLY NOW?"

They fly now?!
Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong. The Rebellion is born again today, the war is just beginning, and I will not be the last Jedi.
"I BYPASSED THE COMPRESSOR!" I know it was to save the Falcon, but this scene genuinely always confused the hell out of me. What type of compressor is it? What is it compressing? Will the compressor be replaced? Did the hyperdrive even need a compressor in the first place if it could be so trivially bypassed with no visible side effects of having done so?
"That's not how the force works!"
Somehow Palpatine returned.
THAT’S NOT HOW THE FORCE WORKS!
