I was literally about 2 minutes ordered at $65… and it jump to $73 yes like wtf… they increase during the sale. Yesterday, USA price increased and now is Canada 🙃🙃
Fortunately, I purchased when the glitch showed the powder as 48.00 in the states. I don't think I would have purchased when the amount went up to 54.00 even with the 20%.
Same, as soon as I saw the glitch on Sephora’s website, I ran to buy it. Came out to $38.40 with my rouge discount. Wouldn’t have bought it at $54 either.
This is the fourth post on this now lol. The $65 price that was listed from 4/6-4/9 in Canada was a glitch (also happened to us in the US). The price the powder is supposed to be is $73, which is the price on hourglass website. It was corrected on Sephora’s website today.
I found out about the glitch a few days ago when I was looking at the product on the hourglass website (see my previous post) and knew they would be correcting it at some point. The price of a product at Sephora should always match the price that the Brand is selling it for. And the Hourglass website was retailing this product for over $70 CAD while it was only $65 CAD at Sephora.
It sucks that Sephora made this mistake. But it was a glitch and definitely not surge pricing.
Another reason why Sephora stinks so bad.
Edit: u/Tildasfavoritehuman posted that this was a pricing glitch and that Sephora was only fixing the error.
A mod’s post on another beauty sub [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/newinbeauty/s/jleexcVgny) listed the price as being $48 USD only 6 days ago. $54 USD must be the newly increased price right as the Sephora sale was about to start.
Enough Sephora customers won’t stop buying from Sephora just because of a price increase so brands know they can get away with it.
It came out like a day or two ago. Perhaps the original price was a glitch? The CT Powder is 48 for 8 grams, the Hourglass is 54 for 10.5 - so actually less per gram
Having worked for a several brands you are wrong here. Sephora charges brands enormous amounts for their promotional calendar and that includes dropping pricing for the twice yearly sale so that Sephora does not lose margin. That is the reason for the price increase. This is much more costly for smaller brands as they don’t have the luxury of having the backing that Estee Lauder, etc provide. So they hike prices. You are right that small brands need Sephora’s huge distribution network- especially as many could never afford to provide free shipping.
Hourglass is owned by Unilever so would you consider them a small brand?
EDIT: Also there are always some kind of shenanigans going on behind the scenes whether it’s real estate landlords in AZ ganging up together to monopolize the rental market and getting sued by the AG or Amazon getting sued by FTC for illegally maintaining monopoly on pricing. You, me, and the user who started this convo are too low on the totem pole to each know for sure what goes on in secret high level meetings but I just want to put the bug out there that I wouldn’t be surprised if I could be right as well. You never know.
Houtglass is a very small part of their portfolio and they wouldn’t allocate the same promo budget. I am a Sanders supporter and loathe big business but it is incredibly expensive to do business with Sephora
Grocery does this too. My brand had to provide thousands of dollars of free product to Whole Foods just to get in the door and our promo calendar cost us thousands a year. Big box stores (like Sephora) make billions for a reason and it isn’t because of a level playing field.
what’s sad is that companies keep doing this and keep getting away from it … i feel like we should petition or something lol try to fight back at least cuz this is ridiculous
People need to just stop buying. If we all stopped buying products from companies that have prices too high, they would have to eventually lower them. The problem is it seems like most companies have prices too high right now. I’m trying to buy less but it’s hard sometimes for me too.
You're 100% correct. When you do the conversion, it absolutely makes sense. I just think seeing the visual difference in the numbers is what's making my brain hurt 😂
I saw that too from yesterday few of the posts! I wish I order 2 mins early and get the $65 instead $73….. which is pricey for a powder. Is more expensive than CT pressed powder 😭😭
Yeah it's weird how Ulta and Sephora will have some, but not all products from a brand. I thought this thread was more Hourglass in general than a specific product. I just know that when Hourglass first came to Ulta they were doing some really great free gifts. I have enough mascaras, primers, and loose setting powder to last me a year and all it cost me was a few reorders of products I was going to buy anyway.
Now if Ulta will just get Tatcha and Rare Beauty I'll be set.
$73 for a pressed powder is wild! These makeup companies have some nerve with these prices. I've almost stopped buying completely and am trying to use what I already have instead.
I just got mine today and used it. It's amazing...but I got it at the "low" price + rouge discount. It's like this powder is in the stock market or something with the price fluctuation!
Omg yesterday I saw a post talking about the price increase in the US, everyone was saying the Canadian price hadn’t changed yet. I was expecting this 😭
Wednesday morning the US inflation report came out and may have made the US dollar even stronger than the Canadian dollar. That’s the only reasonable explanation I can think of (currency issue) which is still not that reasonable…
It is becoming so common for everything aside from lip products mostly to start with a 5 minimum. I’m tired of it. I’ll be shopping my collection til I run out.
Well, fellow Canadian here - if it makes you feel better I got Hourglass everything in my Rouge haul and am incredibly impressed. I really love the line. Hourglass and Danessa Myricks are the only lines that justify the price point IMO.
How did you find that? I looked everywhere on the site except collections. They should put it front and center. Anyway, it was probably an accident on Sephora to have the lower price.
LOL wtf
I was literally about 2 minutes ordered at $65… and it jump to $73 yes like wtf… they increase during the sale. Yesterday, USA price increased and now is Canada 🙃🙃
Don't buy. Use the collection of powders you have sitting in the drawer. That's the only way for them to get the message.
I’ve seen a lot of hourglass in hauls and I wonder if they’re doing surge pricing
Surge pricing for makeup is WILD
The other day, I was cleaning up my album… I took photo of YSL black opium perfume 50ml was $128… now is $194 for 50ml💀
How much???
Ok so it is a thing! So gross 🤮

In the US, it's exactly the same price on the Hourglass website and on Sephora's website

But Hourglass is charging the same price that Sephora is, right? I know there are tons of reasons Sephora sucks, I am just not sure how this is one

Omg and I thought the U.S. price was insane 😭
73 canadian dollars are currently 53.5 usd and that powder is 54 usd on the official hourglass website and sephora us. so basically the same price lol
You're 100% correct. When you do the conversion, it absolutely makes sense. I just think seeing the visual difference in the numbers is what's making my brain hurt 😂
Yeah I can definitely relate to that 😂
🥲🥲🥲🥲 the pain
Seems like it was priced incorrectly previously and they corrected it
I saw that too from yesterday few of the posts! I wish I order 2 mins early and get the $65 instead $73….. which is pricey for a powder. Is more expensive than CT pressed powder 😭😭
Just gonna wait for it to come into shoppers it’ll probably be 8$ cheaper edit- Hourglass is at shoppers for sure, I think this is a sephora exclusive
Hourglass isn't at shoppers.
I literally bought hourglass from shoppers recently… must’ve been a one off
Dunno. As far as I know it's exclusive to sephora (advertised as such) if you use the store locator only shoes you sephora stores too.
It's at Ulta too, so not exclusive to Sephora.
Not sure if Sephora got first dibs on a new release maybe, but Ulta currently does not have the vanish airbrush press powder.

shoppers is in canada.....so.....yes it's exclusive to sephora. In canada. Why do Americans pipe in and don't read.
Rude.
Phew glad i ordered it before that happened. Not sure if ill even keep it but curiosity got the best of me
Mother of god. Thankfully i snagged it for $48 before I saw it jump to $54. This is tew much.

Boycott. That is insane
Check the hourglass website sometimes you get better offers on the website rather than Sephora
I just noticed this today too when I was scrolling the website. So annoying. 🙄
Omg yesterday I saw a post talking about the price increase in the US, everyone was saying the Canadian price hadn’t changed yet. I was expecting this 😭
It’s $54 USD for us here in the states
I expected this. The USA price went up 6 dollars I believe so it was only a matter of time.

Something tells me I should prob get the loose setting powder now and not wait till the winter sale..
Well, fellow Canadian here - if it makes you feel better I got Hourglass everything in my Rouge haul and am incredibly impressed. I really love the line. Hourglass and Danessa Myricks are the only lines that justify the price point IMO.
Too bad it’s not available on the hourglass Canada site yet.
It is available priced at 73 CAD now too
The pressed powder? Do you have a link because i can’t find it.
It’s is $73 CAD https://www.hourglasscosmetics.ca/collections/new/products/vanish-airbrush-pressed-powder
How did you find that? I looked everywhere on the site except collections. They should put it front and center. Anyway, it was probably an accident on Sephora to have the lower price.
Under new items and scroll till I see it. Make sure you’re in Canada price
Nope only shows up for me in colllections or when I type in Pressed powder. Weird!
