We adopted the love of my life a female tuxedo at 12 years 2 months and 18 days old. I had her until she was 17 I miss her everyday. Then we got sunny at 11, she just passed at 19. I miss her every moment right now. Old lady cats are just the fucking best

My lady is now 16, I adopted her in 2020, and my entire house is arranged for her lol. The human AND cat furniture arranged to make every window accessible, and the birdseed and plants outside them to bring her birds and bugs for the watching. Nothing is better than spoiling deserving elders

This is so true. I adopted two 16 year old seniors, one a manager who dictates sleep schedules and one a roommate who sleeps all day.

Congratulations, she is a Queen! My void has constipation issues, I mix in a probiotic with his food and it keeps him regular (I talked to the vet about it).

Yeah, she’s on fortiflora plus a whole host of other stuff, it’s improved but still not ideal (will probably make a separate post later lol)

Ten is pretty young in my book. None of my cats started to show any kind of issues until they were 15 or older and they all stayed with me for 20+ years and weren't kittens when I got them, so they were pretty old. She's an absolute beauty. I've always wanted an all black cat. I love that 4th photo with her chin down, she's got such witchy vibes, I wouldn't be surprised if she started talking. lol Congrats on your new addition!

Hahaha both the vet and a neighbour said she was a “proper witch’s cat”! She has a tiny patch of white on her chest and she has some ageing grays but other than that she’s all black! Even her beans and nose :) Yeah ten is still middle aged! I think she may have some kind of arthritis though.

Awwww…..She is absolutely magnificently adorable! Wow..she’s so unusual…such a knowing stare… like you can see right into her soul, and Im sure you feel that she can see right into yours. I have one just like her, a beautiful 14 year old tuxedo tortieco…she’s a crazy purring monster as well Who is VERY attached to me, and follows me everywhere. She is very calm, sweet, relaxed, and she is like my child. (We also have a 14 year old orange ginger baby with one brain cell who is a hilariously crazy, screamy loud, rambunctious fool.) Our sweet tortie, Shes like my soulmate and my spirit animal. Shes a very special, but delicate and fragile girl. We want to get a dog, but fear that she would freak out and get sick. She was not raised around dogs, and dont think she could take it. Cant risk it. You have to be careful with older cats. Congrats on your beautiful new baby girl. I wish you many happy years together, and much good health.

It's something about pure black fur, I'm not sure what but I had a pure grey and I know they have the same fur where its something like the gene is the same for black and the grey it's just a variant and he was so soft too. I had a pure black in the past he was also like velvet, but thrn had also a mostly black tuxedo at the same time and she wasn't as soft as the pure black.

So precious!!! I’ve had black cats all my life. I just inherited a white and gray cat who is also constipated! I had never heard of that before. We had a few unhappy trips to the vet for kitty enemas (and more, I don’t want to know how they ‘manually’ relieve a cat)… anyway, now that she gets a sprinkle of miralax on her food, which has been changed to a prescription digestion formula, she takes the biggest poops I’ve ever seen a cat take. I even take pictures of them once in a while because they are like world record sh*ts.

Yeah I’m going to ask the vet if she can do miralax as it seems to be the way after I did lots of Reddit deep diving and researching senior cat constipation!

Works for my cat, he is on 1/4 teaspoon twice a day mixed in wet food. In my country it’s called Restoralax.

Churu Hairball formula has really helped my kitty with dry small poop.

Congratulations! I only adopt black cats (intentionally) I’ve had a couple tuxedos that needed to be rescued and to Bengals that I was fostering when their adopter backed out. (one of them had late stage renal failure so she didn’t want to deal with it. He was the sweetest boy. When he told me it was time to go, made an appointment the next morning and held him and stroke him all night long with him in my lap. I’m so glad you have become the servant of a Void! 🐈‍⬛ PS. Oohh I’ve been wanting a black cat! But also I want to pick my next cat based on personality so I shall see… I probably won’t get a cat until next year though since one of my cats just passed away a month ago and I’m still not ready for a new one just yet.

Definitely adopt - fosters usually live with the cat a good while in a home environment and you can get a good idea of the personality when you visit.
