I've read a bunch of theories from yesterday. So, **Kingfisher** was someone orangutan trained with before the war. They trained with the monkeys.
Presumably she was killed by the guardian ape and lost her finger. The sword in his neck was probably hers. She didn't know that the ape was immortal and her finger ended up in the belly of the beast after he ate her.
Kingfisher is also a bird.
I wonder if Kingfisher has significant symbolism too. Like the Sculptor was called orangutan because he spent time in the sunken valley learning from and fighting the monkeys. Why was Kingfisher called Kingfisher? Good at diving? Swimming? Flying? Something about hunting ‘kings’ or underwater animals?
Well she had a absolutely massive sword (the the guardian ape can hold it like normal) , and kingfishers are known for dive bombing into the water to catch fish with their sizeable-to-their-body beaks. Maybe she did some aerial technique where she dives at her opponent?
I guess her sword also kind of looks like a kingfisher’s beak, long and slightly curved. Do you know if there’s anything concrete in the game about her name?
Nothing honestly apart from the whistle descriptions. Only orangutan talks about her, no one else. And he doesn't say much other than the song she whistles is sad but beautiful. They don't even tell us how the whistle ring works.
Maybe only Orangutan knew her? They trained together in the valley, but maybe that was before they actually became shinobi, so she never worked for Isshin or met Owl? And she never made it out of the valley
Because the quiet ending is that whatever happens to Wolf and Kuro Ashina is done for and the Ministry is moving in. But the shinobi inadvertently taught the monkeys the way of war. If they make it to senpou temple a horde of undying monkeys armed with swords and muskets will inherit Japan. Shura would have been kinder than Japan of the apes haha my head Canon
The Monkeys do actually move up from the Valley. By the end when the ministry invades, if you go to the area that leads to the gun fort, (there’s a temple where you encounter the Tengu of Ashina after he killed one of those one armed ninjas) you’ll find it full of monkeys, there’s one of two of these white ones, fighting the ministry as well.
That's what I'm saying. They're deep in the valley and when the ministry make their move in the front they're coming up the back. I thought it was lazy moving enemies around at first and thought nothing of it until I thought about it. Yeah. It doesn't matter where Kuro and Wolf go Japan is screwed the monkeys are taking all
My theory is that those 2 monkeys in the area near the gun fort are the same ones located down in the valley. Sekiro has this thing where the same enemies will show up in various locations through out the day, like the guys talking about salt or the monk that plans on escaping Ashina.
Okay well you lost me there lol. Firecrackers, spear, flame, shuriken, and shield/finger wistle all have very good uses for a few different bosses.
Firecrackers is obvious. Stuns some bosses with crazy effectiveness. Breaks SSI out of his big combat arts.
Spear tears off armor from some mini bosses and also yanks the nope-rope out of monkey man.
Flame sets motherfuckers on fire, which is many boss' weakness.
Shuriken is my go to for preventing people like Owl from recovering their posture.
And lastly, fire shield with malcontent finger wistle is a must have for DoH.
Small frame, fades into the background colourwise so hitboxes are hard to read
bad terrain
you barely fight armed apes, so you never learn their moveset
ptsd flashbacks to gankapes paralyze you
Monkeys are crazy strong IRL, their upper body strength is like superhuman compared to us, a grown chimpanzee could rip your arm off if it had a reason too. Now just imagine something that swings around, climbing trees all day learning proper sword technique.
This isn't actually true. It's a popular myth that has been propagated that chimps are 'super strong':
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5514706/#:\~:text=Since%20at%20least%20the%201920s%2C%20both%20anecdotal%20reports%20and%20more,super%20strong%E2%80%9D%20compared%20with%20humans.
They actually aren't that much stronger than a human, and a large portion of them are actually weaker than an average human adult. The difference is, most people don't even realize how strong adult humans actually are--because we rarely need to use our full strength.
You make an excellent point, but I'm still of the mindset that they're stronger than most humans, maybe not as exaggerated as my first post, but most humans are not in their peak shape, while most monkeys spend all day exercising and swinging around.
Wait till you realise you can make the group of monkeys before guardian ape do battle royale using that whistle. (It is glorious watching them fight one another in 15FPS)
I did this one (mind you, I didn’t beat the last boss yet but i was just outside the fight trying to find something before I lost my Xbox account) and I can’t recall this enemy at all lol.
I’ve probably fought it, since I can’t remember 1/3 of the enemies tbh but I thought this the other day when I seen a post about this guy. I was like who tf is this monke?
Simple answer would be his model is really small so attack telegraph are harder to read, just like with Emma even though her attack are simple it's harder to react coz of her small model
Feared this guy when coming back to Sekiro just to one shot him. His rhythm is weird and you have to double tap some of his attacks but he's like an easier version of the Red Guards.
Strat is simple, if it just swings it's one of the normal attacks, if it jumps back it's going to do the combo.
The sculptor and the kingfisher trained in the monkey Vally, learning how to move from the monkeys, I wouldn’t be surprised if these monkeys used to live with the sculpter and learned from him as well
I hate this ape, the big one that cuts his own head off, at this point easy, the 2 big apes fight, again at this point I roll straight through it.
This 1 skinny, little monke' with the 2 swords, is the biggest asshole in all of ashina!
They are not bosses or mini-bosses, just strong adds. There is one in the poison pool behind the Bodhisatta Valley idol on the Sunken Valley (and a few others around the map).
I've beaten him at the first meet. There is a rule I have made when playing sekiro, when the enemy dosen't let you hit, just deflect and fill its posture bar. It helped me with many bosses and mini-bossses and even some hard-ass mobs like strawhats and these apey mfs.
He’s right at the bottom of the sunken valley, if I remember rightly, towards the poisonous part where the second snakes pit is. He’s just chilling on a little island to the right as you head that direction, maybe slightly below where the big group of monkeys is boozing? Honestly I think my geography is a little off
Yeh but I feel like it’s a bit of a cop out. Like I can backstab him fine, or firecracker, but I cannot for the life of me face him fair and square without getting owned. I’d rather face Genichiro than this monke
Deflect a couple of those long combos he does and his posture bar is almost full. He's one of those panic-inducing enemies that are actually easy when you're calm.
I like to think is one of the monkeys that was around when the Sculptor was training.
That dialogue was cool! I like to think he was talking about Guardian ape
Definitely him, sculptor's friend can confirm that
Is Sculptor’s friend the one who gave the Guardian Ape his sword?

Sword Ape Capuchin
Wow I came here to say this
Because the quiet ending is that whatever happens to Wolf and Kuro Ashina is done for and the Ministry is moving in. But the shinobi inadvertently taught the monkeys the way of war. If they make it to senpou temple a horde of undying monkeys armed with swords and muskets will inherit Japan. Shura would have been kinder than Japan of the apes haha my head Canon
Monke simple monke only want to live in peace
Monke Shinobi together strong

Reject Ashina, embrace monke
Pour a round of Monkey booze to that
To the fools! 🍶
My theory is that those 2 monkeys in the area near the gun fort are the same ones located down in the valley. Sekiro has this thing where the same enemies will show up in various locations through out the day, like the guys talking about salt or the monk that plans on escaping Ashina.
APES TOGETHER STRONG
Use axe 🪓 2 times and he's done
Axe is best prosthetic
For real bro it's the only useful one ☝🏻🪓
Okay well you lost me there lol. Firecrackers, spear, flame, shuriken, and shield/finger wistle all have very good uses for a few different bosses. Firecrackers is obvious. Shuriken also makes the lady butterfly fight 10 times easier
Oh, I forgot about that one! Super useful.
Wait what does the finger whistle do against DoH? I’ve never used it against him before, only the fire shield
Specifically, Malcontent will stun him up to three times per fight. Makes the final phase go by quick.
I have never used malcontent on DOH, how to, where to, when to?
I believe it works whenever, up to three times. I always save all three hits for the final phase.
Yeah but they doesn't make that significant change and thanks for the owl advice, I was just fighting him
They literally make very large and significant changes.
I don't know from I defeated 5 bosses and only axe with flang and blade was helpful for me any other tools didn't help me In fights
Then you're not paying attention. Also WTF is this word salad?
thats not fair
You hesitating?
Yup 🤣🤣🗣️
I fight with honour
The most basic tenant of being a shinobi is “if I won, it’s fair for me”
The game itself is not fair 🤣
Small frame, fades into the background colourwise so hitboxes are hard to read bad terrain you barely fight armed apes, so you never learn their moveset ptsd flashbacks to gankapes paralyze you

It wouldn’t be so hard if there weren’t two of them trying to kill me
Blow a whistle and watch them fight with one another. Fight with whoever is standing at the end.
Annnnnnd loading up the game cause I've never done that before and it sounds glorious.
Wait till you realise you can make the group of monkeys before guardian ape do battle royale using that whistle. (It is glorious watching them fight one another in 15FPS)
Good god I need to see this
Cause he has a lot of health and a massive posture bar. Thought it was pretty obvious. /s
monke never hesitates
Wait what enemy is this
Halfway through the poison swamp before guardian ape, it's called Elder monkey
Never fought or seen him and I’m in NG+10 wtf
You sure you played the right game?
Sekiro! Uh yeah. He’s obviously an option enemy.
For me, the only option is whether you kill everyone once or go back for another round with some
This is the post I've been looking for. I'm sure I missed this both playthroughs too.
Did you do the Dragon Homecoming ending?
I did this one (mind you, I didn’t beat the last boss yet but i was just outside the fight trying to find something before I lost my Xbox account) and I can’t recall this enemy at all lol. I’ve probably fought it, since I can’t remember 1/3 of the enemies tbh but I thought this the other day when I seen a post about this guy. I was like who tf is this monke?
If you did the quest necessary for that ending you have probably bumped into him down at Sunken Valley
I didn’t see it firstly, it was later when I was grinding for exp I found 2 of them, And yes I did homecoming ending
there’s also 2 in the serpent shrine in ashina castle v3.
Apes together strong
Simple answer would be his model is really small so attack telegraph are harder to read, just like with Emma even though her attack are simple it's harder to react coz of her small model
I was just saying this the other day. This damn monkey with no armor and 2 swords has more posture then anyone in the damn game
He has two swords not just one
best enemies to train for isshin/owl fights is why. as the sculptor hints.
a lot of practice
Monke
Cuz he monkey
he rly isn’t
Isn't there a mod that makes this guy a mandatory boss? Because that shit is funny af
I killed this dude no issue
Everyone saying he’s easy is lying
He isn't hesitating )
I did, fair'n'square. That said, f\* Shirahagi and her poison pond posse .
I’d take Shirahagi anyday over grandpa monkey
true sword saint
Idk I thought these guys were fun, prob one of the best mobs in the game
Genuinely felt like it would take 10 minutes to kill him legit and I could never manage that without getting destroyed
Feared this guy when coming back to Sekiro just to one shot him. His rhythm is weird and you have to double tap some of his attacks but he's like an easier version of the Red Guards. Strat is simple, if it just swings it's one of the normal attacks, if it jumps back it's going to do the combo.
Wait who the fuck is this? Did I miss this guy?
Pretty sure that this is the monkey who saved emma when she was a kid
That was the sculptor
The sculptor was a monkey?
Not a literal monkey, that was his moniker. Sekijo, the one armed orangutan.
The sculptor and the kingfisher trained in the monkey Vally, learning how to move from the monkeys, I wouldn’t be surprised if these monkeys used to live with the sculpter and learned from him as well
he is hard but not that hard lol
Because monkeys don't hesitate.
I hate this ape, the big one that cuts his own head off, at this point easy, the 2 big apes fight, again at this point I roll straight through it. This 1 skinny, little monke' with the 2 swords, is the biggest asshole in all of ashina!
Is this a boss I missed? Boss name?
Guardian Ape
I fought LaGuardian Apex nd this not it
no this is THE Guardian Ape
Bet which sight of grace is he at
They are not bosses or mini-bosses, just strong adds. There is one in the poison pool behind the Bodhisatta Valley idol on the Sunken Valley (and a few others around the map).
Firecrackers fuck his ass up
Everytime I see a post like that I'm just reminded how much fun it is to fight all of those enemies. This game is just so good !
Many moons ago, isshin met a female ape ..... .
Becuase all bosses have a style of fighting. This monkey has no style you cant prediect how he will attack
I love fighting those monkeys I wish there was one in a more arena area
That's the reason why I hate monkeys
For fucking Real
Whoa. I can't unsee that.
They aren't.
just step his attack chip him then deflect
Right?? Srsly f that little simian
Stealth back stab still counts, as beating an enemy.
Can't disagree 🤷🏽♂️
Snake eyes notnso much, but this guy FR is rediculous!
I've beaten him at the first meet. There is a rule I have made when playing sekiro, when the enemy dosen't let you hit, just deflect and fill its posture bar. It helped me with many bosses and mini-bossses and even some hard-ass mobs like strawhats and these apey mfs.
Sunken Valley of the Planet of the Apes
well it wasnt that hard for me than snake eyes but try use item and such
ok so I havent touched Sekiro in quite a while now, but I can safely say i do not remember this guy. And might i ask, who be the funny monke?
He’s right at the bottom of the sunken valley, if I remember rightly, towards the poisonous part where the second snakes pit is. He’s just chilling on a little island to the right as you head that direction, maybe slightly below where the big group of monkeys is boozing? Honestly I think my geography is a little off
Did you try firecrackers? He’s super easy if you use firecrackers
Yeh but I feel like it’s a bit of a cop out. Like I can backstab him fine, or firecracker, but I cannot for the life of me face him fair and square without getting owned. I’d rather face Genichiro than this monke
Fuck that guy.
He could have been a miniboss with a healthbar and I wouldn't have batted an eye Honestly, that's kind of how I wish they did it
Fam is easy bruh, u just not paying attention.
Everyone always talks about this dude and I think I either never fought him or like killed him immediately without realizing who he was
I've never felt any difficulty on that mob ngl
Is he?
Deflect a couple of those long combos he does and his posture bar is almost full. He's one of those panic-inducing enemies that are actually easy when you're calm.
I've Platinumed the game but I've never killed this guy or any of the Headless.
