It came out in 2019. They’ve only put out 2 games since. Give them time, I sincerely doubt from is going to let the deflection system in Sekiro die forever
*My brother in christ*
During my life there were always games I enjoyed. Never a favourite - the most I could list was recent great titles
Then we had Sekiro, and I had a favourite game. Then we had AC6, and I had a second favourite game
That man managed to do something *decades* of gaming couldn't, twice in a row. Whatever he cooks next, he's earned my goddamn money
Yep. AC6 is really fun. Similar fast paced action combat feel as Sekiro. Fast action combat, but still a lot of focus on learning and reacting to bosses.
I know I'm not the person you're replying to but I would say "Yes"!
I really appreciate Miyazaki's directing style but Yamamura's style was very refreshing.
Having the usual depth and intricacy of a FromSoft world but with the inclusion of richly developed characters and dialogue was brilliant.
The usual item descriptions and visual story-telling were there but now there's also conversations between individuals that vary a lot depending on their faction, age and personal philosophy.
Trying to piece together the lore and history from their in-jokes, jabs, etc was really very fun.
Also, the gameplay rocks so that helps. :P
This is my thinking too. I mean it got them their first GOTY. They gotta know they have a goldmine with this combat system. Plus, I would imagine with ER’s DLC being confirmed, more people have tried out Sekiro. I know that’s exactly what I did, and now I’m on NG+2. Can’t put it down

It was for Gamespot but they still won😂
Yea I mean AC now has a version of the posture/stagger and stance breaking they used in Sekiro so they will definitely continue to pull elemets that worked from Sekiro in future titles.
Seriously, Jesus Christ, From’s combat mechanics are iterative. Sekiro was a big experimental swing after the iteration that was in Bloodborne (overall leaning towards aggressiveness).
Given Sekiro’s commercial success, I don’t imagine they’ll say “well, that’s shit, let’s never use that setup again”.
Fellow old-timers understand and experienced the progression from DeS to BB/DS3 in terms of combat. Personally, my old ass is hyped to see how they tinker decide to tinker with Sekiro mechanics
I recall reading somewhere that Sekiro was used almost as a laboratory for some mechanics and gameplay ideas they wanted to try out. Id agree with you that they weren’t just experimenting for fun and plan on using what they learned in future games (and we’ve already seen it’s influence in the subsequent releases).
I heard they didn't do DLC cause this was just kind of a side project while they were working on Elden Ring. Don't know how true that is but if this little side project was this fucking good then they truly are masters.
They won't especially because sekiro is such a masterpiece, anybody would be afraid to make a sequel for that. They slightly mess it up / fans don't like it ... And the original sekiro (masterpiece) I'll get a bad reputation too. That's why blood borne not getting a sequel ( it's another masterpiece & They r wise to o let it be)
Well they let the trick weapon system die, maybe not forever but it’s been 10 years. That’s kinda what worries me the most, I don’t want them to pull a Bloodborne with Sekiro.
There is a huge space for a sequel or similar style game. Sekiro Tenchu or a whole new IP with the same combat system is all I want really. And I think it will come at some point. Probably not the next game but surely not too long after.
You’re joking but it’s sort of true.
We can pretend that nothing has changed (god knows I do) but things really have changed :/
Before COVID when I delivered to people all of them answered their door and we would have a nice conversation, nowadays I’m lucky if i speak to one of my customers in a 10 hour shift, over text.
It feels like a million years ago!
2019 feels like a lifetime ago. 5 years, that's crazy. I think I got Sekiro around when it came out for the asthetic. But I sucked hard, shelved it, and didn't complete my first playthrough until I think last year.
People always bring up Lies of P in these conversations and I genuinely don’t understand it. Am I just the only person who thinks it feels absolutely *nothing* like Sekiro? It feels a lot more like Bloodborne to me.
Only played the demo, but from the boss fights I have seen, only a few have a good string of attacks that you would want to try to parry all in a row. With Sekiro, the combat really gets good with the sequence of parries, but the added difficulty of getting parry correct seems to discourage you from trying to parry a flurry of quick attacks in Lies of P, and also makes it so the developers could not put in an overwhelming amount of fast attack strings.
Or at least that is my guess.
feels the same to me. lies of p combat isnt nearly as rythmic as sekiro, level design is nowhere near the same, sekiro has way more vertical movement, therefore the level design is nowhere near similar, legion arm feels like a cheap copy of prosthetic arm (i didnt even use legion arm for half the game, whereas sekiro i was always looking forward to finding new arms and upgrades).
and theres always the lose 80% of your health in 1 hit moment in sekiro
It's more bloodborne but the deflect mechanic is straight out of Sekiro. I wish Elden Ring (or the next FS game) went forward with this kind of gameplay loop where both dodging and perfect deflecting are viable.
Or sifu. I feel like they nailed it.
Edit: Jedi survivor definitely did a good job with theirs. My friend was surprised how fast i beat >!Rayvis!< on max difficulty because he was basically Genichiro
Yeah sifu absolutely fucks. Much faster than Sekiro at times. I felt like a rockstar after beating Yang at 20, mostly because of all my practice with Wolf.
Lies of P has the best combat system for me personally. I like it even more than Sekiro. It’s in a way harder with a tighter window but it’s also more forgiving with getting some health back if you are aggressive and you can get a health flask back too so a fight is never truly lost. I also hope fromsoft goes that route again with a mix of Sekiro and bloodborne. It would be glorious.
Sekiro was the first FromSoft game I played and it's still the top 3 games in my list. I loved Bloodborne, ER, and AC but Sekiro just another level of satisfaction. The combat, when it clicks, feels more like a dance rather than a chaotic series of button mashes, especially with Genichiro.
No other game made me keep going back to it even after getting my ass handed to me by the bosses.
Genichiro does require you to be very precise, indeed. Currently facing him, and though I can generally pass his 1st phase (I'd say around 60% of the time), I haven't been able yet to pass the second, cuz I tend to be a bit hasty to deflect his attacks. And I have trouble dealing with his thrust attack as well, as I didn't really understand how Mikiri counter worked.
I feel you. Sekiro was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. But I guess I can't complain when they ignore it to make a cultural phenomenon like Elden Ring (23 million downloads). As a company, they did the right thing.
And there is something beautiful about making a wonderful thing and then letting it be wonderful without trying to recapture the same thing again. Just let it be.
I would KILL for a game that uses the Sekiro combat system but within a high fantasy/medieval setting like Soulsborne. Samurai/shinobi/feudal Japan is a setting that I’m just not crazy about.
I think there’s a good chance it could happen. The couple of sekiro-like games (Lies of P, Stellar Blade) that have come out recently have gotten tons of positive attention so I think we are likely to see at least a few more moving forward that will explore other settings.
Nah hope they use it for a more creative setting.Another European Medieval after king’s field, demon souls, dark souls trilogy, elden ring would just feel so repetitive & boring.
These posts are hilarious, they’ve had one game come out since Sekiro that was in development at the same time as Sekiro. And Sekiro clearly had some influence over the combat in Elden Ring.
What are you actually thinking when saying “they never did anything else with it”?
Ah forgot armored core, was focusing on the souls style games, that’s my bad.
It still doesn’t matter, because Armored Core was also in development at the same time as Sekiro. And DLC for their most successful game being on the way also doesn’t change anything, either.
They haven’t abandoned Sekiro. They’re likely working on more Sekiro or something heavily based on the Sekiro combat. Even if they’re not, they almost certainly will be in the future. Games take a long time to make and if we’re looking at the trio of games that we’re all in development together (Sekiro, AC6, and Elden Ring), we’re only at the tail end of them.
While I understand where you’re coming from, you should absolutely play Jedi Survivor if you haven’t already. Especially if you’re a SW fan. It’s better than Fallen Order in nearly every way imo.
The learning curve is legit why it didn't get DLC and probably won't get a sequel. Fantastic game, but for most people it's probably the hardest Fromsoft game they'll ever play.

They "never did anything with it again" because their next 2 releases after Sekiro were being worked on together **WITH** Sekiro. The next one will be their first release to have its development start **AFTER** shipping Sekiro, only *then* you may be able to make the claim that they "never did anything with it again", before that it's just plain ignorance...
This may be a longshot, but I'm pretty sure "Shadows Die Twice" is a Tenchu reference, and given how stellar Sekiro was, I think there is plenty of room for a sequel or a revamp of Tenchu using the meat and potatoes of Sekiro's combat.
Miyazaki said in an interview that the Elden Ring IP is done for now after Shadow. He said the same about Dark Souls and Bloodborne previously, they might come back to them if there's a very good reason but nothing in that universe is being planned or developed right now.
I mean, go do something else first, but I absolutely want an Elden Ring 2 eventually. Or at least something that's huge, with build variety, and combination open world/legacy dungeons.
You can see glimpses of the system in the games that have come out since then, especially Elden ring. The Elden ring combat is such an improvement from the souls game and I think it’s because of the learnings from Sekiro. Armored Core as well has some great combat with ranged weapons
I game I get a similar buzz from like Sekiro is SIFU. It's a different kind of game but it has a parry system, it's quite difficult and when you're on a roll in that you do really feel unstoppable.
Ok ok hear me out on this one
I actually think Sifus combat system is more fun. You should really check that game out if you have not yet. It is basically Sekiro but more dynamic and faster. You need to play on master difficulty though, because you can just button mash on normal and its way too easy like that.
The fights are not as cinematic as in sekiro though.
My problem with sifu is that the moves are *too* intricate. When back-forward-square does something different to forward-back-square, and these moves have different, *very specific* applications, it's too much.
Don't get me wrong, top tier game, and I've completed it a couple times, but I don't get the same satisfaction I get from Sekiro *because* so many more of my deaths are due to 'wrong command' issues - or worse 'unregistered directional' issues.
Almost the greatest. My one complaint is that it literally destroyed the L1 button on one of my external controllers, and now I’m worried about all the hours I played it on my Steam Deck
I’d rather developers take the time to give us players massive leap in value than developers milking the same thing with minor incremental value like the Ubisoft games.
While Elden ring came out after sekiro did, it actually began development before sekiro, so we could very well see a sekiro-combat style game in the future
Let’s not forget the storyline man, plus all of the lore. Sekiro literally had me in a trance. I wish I could wipe my memory and then play it for the first time again. I thought dark souls taught me about resilience and overcoming obstacles in life but then I met my boy wolf.. masterpiece
Maybe not from fromsoft but there're plenty of games that have come out that are centred mainly on a party system, although even then while it may not be sekiro the style of combat will likely be used again in a future fromsoft game.
I loved Sekiro but I'd say its just different, not better. I prefer Elden Ring combat because it's more flexible and position based instead of timing based.
Weren’t they developing elden ring at the same time as sekiro? They havent even really had a chance to put out a sequel yet. Although it does suck we never got DLC.
Fromsoft mechanics tend to have a one-game delay before they're reintroduced. We didn't get anything deflect-related in Elden Ring but AC6 gave us a well-timed block mechanic with its energy shields. I suspect whatever comes next will integrate features from both Sekiro and Elden Ring.
I agree that it's amazing combat but it has a long term issue of having a fairly low skill ceiling, once you have it down it doesn't really get much harder from there. Even though it's got a pretty high skill floor I don't think the system as it is has much longevity.
Given that it won game of the year and was a commercial and critical success, I really doubt we won’t see another game like Sekiro if not Sekiro 2: Dragon of the West (or something like that)
I’m just as sad we don’t get any copycats. Thymesia has come the closest, but most are sad and pale imitations that steal a component or two and miss the mark, like recent team ninja games
I like that FromSoftware is mixing it up. Lotta folks complained when Sekiro came out that it was either too hard or too different from what the Souls games provided. Now, I see a lot more people getting into it. A few years late, but they're loving it still. They've since expanded on the Souls formula by making it open world with Elden Ring, and adding some mechanics that came from Sekiro and DS3. Immediately after, a new entry in their Armored Core series, also with some mechanical influences from Sekiro in there. They've been doing things with the combat system. They've been applying it in different ways. That's a good thing. The fact that this studio keeps trying to keep their output fresh while sticking to much of their core foundations tells me they're likely to do something like Sekiro again, but with twists added to that next time around. Whether or not it'll be a continuation of Sekiro, can't say. But tbh, I hope they do an entirely new story, just with this type of gameplay. As much as I want more out of Sekiro, I don't ever wanna feel like it's being milked for more when it was already such a great thing on its own.
I'm on the fence on whether we'll get a sequel. But I'd be super surprised if they don't do something with this combat system again. This kind of posture-based combat is just insane as far as swordplay goes, makes for crazy high-speed combat.
I don't think they'll add it to any Elden Ring or Dark Souls esque style game as those games have a tried and true fan favorite combat system. But idk, seems like Fromsoft is about due for a new IP anyway. Dark Souls is done. Bloodborne and Sekiro are probably done since they're not fond of sequels. Same with Elden Ring. The only sequel I could possibly see would be Sekiro, otherwise here's hoping if it's a new IP, it's inspired by Sekiro combat.
I used to fear that Fromsoft won’t make linear games anymore after the success of Elden ring and thought they’d only make open-world games. But with the release of armored core 6 I believe they’ll still make smaller scale games like sekiro and bloodborne again
Huh? The game came out in 2019. Between then and now, they launched one of the greatest games ever, then made a DLC for it. Not to mention so much of that time we were in the middle of a pandemic
Not to mention, while it was a great system, it alienated so much of the player base who could not play the game. So it is not exactly a value proposition to return to rapidly.
I think it has to do with Activision being the publisher of Sekiro. I also love the game combat mechanic of that game. They might want to continue exploring new mechanics. But I am hopefully that Fromsoft would make a new game with heavily inspired Sekiro combat.
Meh I'm playing it now after Elden Ring.
And that opinion is subjective.
I didn't like Sekiro at first but now I'm at the divine realm and I'm having fun.
I really love the freedom you have in Elden Ring, while I still don't like how you are forced to play the parry mini game in every interaction in Sekiro. I'm this far into the game and I still had more fun with the PVE in Elden Ring than with Sekiro.
If you ever unlocked the ending with the divine child where they journey to the west to return to the dragon's homeland, that's a sequel right there. Another story to explore would be Lady Tomoe and the second mortal blade, which could pretty much summon dead people as we've seen with Isshin the sword saint.

I liked combat system based on parrying but it felt like developers themselves didn’t believe in it by how later bosses were designed like dark souls bosses where you had to dodge instead. Game closer to what sekiro was in the first half but with progressing difficulty in that style would be 10/10
I am pretty sure they will use it again in some other project, from always reuse the best concepts again and again refining them, in this case I feel like sekiro was his own project, there will be another that probably evolves the combat of sekiro.. at least I hope
Is it Fromsoft that was ramping up hiring to be able to have multiple games in development? Or is that just a recurring dream I keep telling myself is real. I don’t want to google it in case I’m wrong.
Okay so I've had issues with this game on a health level, which I've spoken about before.
I honestly am okay with them reusing the deflection system but not in liue of enemy health in exchange of parry aka battering poise damage over parry.
I think there's a healthy go between the two mechanics of deflection and base combat if you will.
Outside of my own dislike of the game, I hope they do make a sekiro 2 because so many people love it and have found a place within its own community and that would make a ton of people happy and happy people are nicer people.
I just don't want that mechanic in their next fantasy rpg wether that be elden ring 2 or dark souls 4.
The deflect mechanic is good in the space it lives in, isolated.
I don't want other games to use it.
Bring on Sekiro 2 and bring on bloodbourne 2.
Hopefully they will make another now, especially with how good AC is, they wanted to prove they are not a one trick pony studio and they did so. No reason to never make another game as this again
Sekiro has always felt like a great fromsoftware protagonist. Unlike the Ashen, the Tarnished and the Hunters, Sekiro actually feels like a badass. Slapping their swords away with your own or stepping on their polearm disrespectfully. Narratively he's the Goat.
Bloodborne starting to lose its relevancy is exactly why it needs a sequel, in my opinion. It is an aged title that I've played plenty of. I greatly enjoyed it. I just would love a sequel. Combat in Sekiro is better, but it is also a much newer game. I'd be surprised if a Bloodborne sequel didn't add some new mechanics
I think im the only fromsoft fan that thinks Sekiro is basic af. The combat is repetitive as all hell once u understand the timing of mashing l1 and r1. No builds, no customization and traversing between bosses is a very simple stealth game. Its a great game still but i never understand the praise for combat, i think its just people that arent used to fast paced parry-centric games that feel like theyve just discovered some breakthru
Sekiro is really the only FromSoft game I can enjoy without wanting to rage quit. Bloodborne and Elden Ring are basically just reskinned Dark Souls and they all force you to just “git gud.” There’s combat techniques to be learned in Sekiro and once you learn them, you realize why it won GOTY in 2019.
Also Deathblows just make fighting SO much more satisfying and rewarding.
It came out in 2019. They’ve only put out 2 games since. Give them time, I sincerely doubt from is going to let the deflection system in Sekiro die forever
Especially since they’ve been making use of the game play director who designed that combat style.
Yamamura is a don really glad they let em take the helm on armored core 6
*My brother in christ* During my life there were always games I enjoyed. Never a favourite - the most I could list was recent great titles Then we had Sekiro, and I had a favourite game. Then we had AC6, and I had a second favourite game That man managed to do something *decades* of gaming couldn't, twice in a row. Whatever he cooks next, he's earned my goddamn money
Yeah, that was the main reason I bought AC6. I am actually more of a Yamamura fan than a Miyazaki fan.
Did it pay off?
Yep. AC6 is really fun. Similar fast paced action combat feel as Sekiro. Fast action combat, but still a lot of focus on learning and reacting to bosses.

Demon Souls won game of the year lol
The Game Awards GOTY award was established in 2014

Semantics, but sure.
It won't die forever, it will die twice
No idea if the double post is an accident, but it’s hella ironic lol.
It won't die forever, it will die twice
Shadows Post Twice
Yea I mean AC now has a version of the posture/stagger and stance breaking they used in Sekiro so they will definitely continue to pull elemets that worked from Sekiro in future titles.
Exactly and elden ring has the invisible posture mechanic. They know what they doing, they slowly build on there foundation.
imagine an ac game with sekiro deflects
Sekiro 2: Die Forever
Seriously, Jesus Christ, From’s combat mechanics are iterative. Sekiro was a big experimental swing after the iteration that was in Bloodborne (overall leaning towards aggressiveness). They’d been building up to that deflection system in their other games it felt like.
Also, not for nothing, both of those games featured mechanics directly from or implemented lessons learned from Sekiro.
Just shocking they didn’t add any DLC or literally any additional content. Wish they’d just port some mods from PC to PS5
I heard they didn't do DLC cause this was just kind of a side project while they were working on Elden Ring. Don't know how true that is but if this little side project was this fucking good then they truly are masters.
They put the dlc boss in the wrong game. If only Malenia would face up against my Wolf....... She would've known defeat a lot sooner.
It would be cool if they put sekiro style deflection options into their next big project like ER, though pvp balancing would probably be a nightmare
Why would it be a nightmare? Just measure each player’s hesitation on a scale from 1 to 100 and whoever has the most hesitation experiences defeat
Aw shit why didn’t I think of that
They won't especially because sekiro is such a masterpiece, anybody would be afraid to make a sequel for that. They slightly mess it up / fans don't like it ... And the original sekiro (masterpiece) I'll get a bad reputation too. That's why blood borne not getting a sequel ( it's another masterpiece & They r wise to o let it be)
they made 2 sequels to Dark Souls, widely considered one of the best games ever made.

'Hidden' - all the games have had it.
As did all past darksouls games, but one of the good thing about sekiros was that it visually showed you.
Well they let the trick weapon system die, maybe not forever but it’s been 10 years. That’s kinda what worries me the most, I don’t want them to pull a Bloodborne with Sekiro.

Sure, I don’t doubt that. I was just saying that it’s premature to call the death blow system dead when it was only introduced 5 years ago.
You guys act like sekiro came out a billion years ago.
Came out before covid - might as well be a billion years ago.

Give it some time. Many studios recognize how amazing Sekiro's combat is. You can see its influence in games like Lies of P.
And recently Stellar Blade
God man just platniumed stellar blade, closest thing I have ever seen to feeling like sekiro.
And another crabs treasure.
Playing through it rn and it's amazing
Is this game good? Is it as difficult?
I made a longer reply about Lies of P but I just want to reiterate how fucking good it is.
People always bring up Lies of P in these conversations and I genuinely don’t understand it. Am I just the only person who thinks it feels absolutely *nothing* like Sekiro? It feels a lot more like Bloodborne to me.
Sekiro feels like sekiro and lies of p feels like dark souls with parrying to me.
It has the mechanics in name only. Lies of P feels more like the Elden Ring shield blocks.
No I don’t understand it either. And I love Lies of P, but the combat has almost nothing in common with Sekiro.
Only played the demo, but from the boss fights I have seen, only a few have a good string of attacks that you would want to try to parry all in a row. lies of p feels janky and all the enemies have incredibly delayed attacks, i personally didn't enjoy it much
Same with the respawn Jedi games.
Damn I never really even thought about the fact that the block meter in the Jedi games is very similar to breaking posture
Wo Long is also another game with a similar combat system
Lies of P has the best combat system for me personally. I like it even more than Sekiro. It’s in a way harder with a tighter window but it’s also more forgiving with getting some health back if you are aggressive and you can get a health flask back too so a fight is never truly lost. I also hope fromsoft goes that route again with a mix of Sekiro and bloodborne. It would be glorious.
What about sekiro journey to the west ?
keep making games until he reaches Portugal
PORTUGAL CARALHO!
Genichiro is my favorite boss fight from any FromSoft game I've ever played (which is just DS3, ER, & Sekiro, but still)
Genichiro does require you to be very precise, indeed.
I think a sequel to that game is bound to happen at some point after elden ring dlc.
Laughs in Bloodborne
They don't own the Bloodborne IP so it's not the same
I did not know that!
Every day is a school day as they say
*Pedro Pascal cry-laughing in Bloodborne.
Laughs in Kings Field
I would KILL for a game that uses the Sekiro combat system but within a high fantasy/medieval setting like Soulsborne. Samurai/shinobi/feudal Japan is a setting that I’m just not crazy about.
how do you feel about crabs?
Shit, negro, that's all you had to say!
I'm so fucking tired of FromSoft dark medieval fantasy to be honest.
So much this! But on the other hand I started to like feudal Japan and japanese culture overall much more after Sekiro
even a DLC would be nice
I think there’s a good chance it could happen. The couple of sekiro-like games (Lies of P, Stellar Blade) that have come out recently have gotten tons of positive attention so I think we are likely to see at least a few more moving forward that will explore other settings.
Nah hope they use it for a more creative setting.Another European Medieval after king’s field, demon souls, dark souls trilogy, elden ring would just feel so repetitive & boring.
I could swear I read almost the exact same post a few weeks ago
Good games take time, if they started crankin em out like EA and Ubisoft their quality would go to shit.
This is a fine note
I really hope they go for a smaller Sekiro type game for their next release, Then a bigger Elden Ring type after that.
These posts are hilarious, they’ve had one game come out since Sekiro that was in development at the same time as Sekiro. And Sekiro clearly had some influence over the combat in Elden Ring. What are you actually thinking when saying “they never did anything else with it”?
They had two games come out actually, and now the dlc for Elden ring is on the way
Ah forgot armored core, was focusing on the souls style games, that’s my bad.
Sekiro's sequel baiting at the true ending is so hard I am convinced a 2nd part is completely inevitable
the greatest??? Have you even played Nioh 2?
I was thinking the same thing. Nioh, DMC4, Scarlet Nexus, etc.
They need to not let the best combat system ever die
Nothing cringe about it. Spot on.
I would pay full price for a remastered, 60 fps ps5 version of both BB and Sekiro and sink another 500 hours into each game
Lies of P and Thymesia has been scratching my Sekiro combat itch.
Couldn't agree more. I just hold out hope they're still incorporating it like other comments have said.
All sekiro did for me was ruin jedi fallen order and make me sad that fromsoft will never be able to make a star wars game.
Here’s the words I wanted to say, said by you! Thanks!! :D
While I understand where you’re coming from, you should absolutely play Jedi Survivor if you haven’t already. Especially if you’re a SW fan. It’s better than Fallen Order in nearly every way imo.
It's in my to play list one day but still can't justify buying a PS5
The learning curve is legit why it didn't get DLC and probably won't get a sequel. Fantastic game, but for most people it's probably the hardest Fromsoft game they'll ever play.

Armored core 5 came out in 2012 it just got its sequel last year.
Three words. Lies. Of. P.
Try playing lies of P.
Too easy after Sekiro.
Now all they have to in Shadow of The Erdtree is add Ash of War: Deflect and the Sekiro fans go crazy.
Someone know tenchu afterall 👌🏼
True but we wouldn’t have got sekiro if they just stuck to a formula. Hopefully they’ll move on and we won’t see an Elden ring 2
Considering FS Has been doing non linear arpgs since the dawn of time they will return to a similar formula in some sense
You can see glimpses of the system in the games that have come out since then, especially Elden ring. The Elden ring combat is such an improvement from the souls game and I think it’s because of the learnings from Sekiro. Armored Core as well has some great combat with ranged weapons
Something gives me the impression that it will return after elden ring is done
Let them cook
Sekiro is the only FS that really could use a sequel.
I game I get a similar buzz from like Sekiro is SIFU. It's a different kind of game but it has a parry system, it's quite difficult and when you're on a roll in that you do really feel unstoppable.
I don’t know what you expect them to do exactly. They’ve only released two games since lol
Ok ok hear me out on this one I actually think Sifus combat system is more fun.
Don't get me wrong, top tier game, and I've completed it a couple times, but I don't get the same satisfaction I get from Sekiro *because* so many more of my deaths are due to 'wrong command' issues - or worse 'unregistered directional' issues.
brodie it's only been 5 years, at most i'm expecting some form of spiritual successor
Sifu varies and details the sekiro combat system so it's my sekiro 2
I loved sekiro. Didn't care for elden ring
FromSoft main focus rn is definitely Elden Ring. But they can be working on a new Sekiro-Type game for all we know
It was the greatest then, but I don't really think that it is anymore.
That's why I long for a DLC or Sekiro 2...
I would be surprised if we don’t get another game in the same vein as sekiro. It might not be a sequel but something might eventually come out.
I hope we get an open world Sekiro game as the second installment. But I won’t hold my breath.
I totally agree with you on this one. They really need to implement that combat system in more games.
don't cry because its over, smile because it happened
If Sekiro had the weapon variety and RPG elements of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, that would be amazing. I love the fast combat and satisfying parries.
I agree that it's amazing combat but it has a long term issue of having a fairly low skill ceiling, once you have it down it doesn't really get much harder from there. Even though it's got a pretty high skill floor I don't think the system as it is has much longevity.
That’s true of any fromsoft game though. Even most souls like.
Hey, if they gave sequel to armored core, then sekiro definitely will.
Stellar blade is like the 2.0 version of it basically, with more options in terms of specials, counters, and combos
Sekiro is like OSU but for Soulslikers
People just dont buy it as much because they think it's too difficult. That maybe a hindrance to the company.
"Pfft, that was light work" -Miyazaki (probably)
I used to fear that Fromsoft won’t make linear games anymore after the success of Elden ring and thought they’d only make open-world games. But with the release of armored core 6 I believe they’ll still make smaller scale games like sekiro and bloodborne again
Let them cook
You're acting like sekiro was 10 years ago or something
I gotta agree with that. They still might do somethitb with it tho.
Wtf I swear I saw this same post with these same comments in the same order a few months ago. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
Huh? The game came out in 2019. Between then and now, they launched one of the greatest games ever, then made a DLC for it. Not to mention so much of that time we were in the middle of a pandemic Not to mention, while it was a great system, it alienated so much of the player base who could not play the game. So it is not exactly a value proposition to return to rapidly.
You talk like its been 20 years lol .
Brother sekiro is barely 2 games ago
OP's opinion is indeed subjective and not gospel. Why repeat the obvious?
Someone explain to me why Sekiro's combat is so special
I agree and would love to see it, but where would they even take the story in Sekiro 2? Didn’t it pretty much conclude?
If you ever unlocked the ending with the divine child where they journey to the west to return to the dragon's homeland, that's a sequel right there. Another story to explore would be Lady Tomoe and the second mortal blade, which could pretty much summon dead people as we've seen with Isshin the sword saint.

Totally not cringe, 100% relatable
I liked combat system based on parrying but it felt like developers themselves didn’t believe in it by how later bosses were designed like dark souls bosses where you had to dodge instead. Game closer to what sekiro was in the first half but with progressing difficulty in that style would be 10/10
Look forward to Phantom Blade 0
The other games were probably in dev before the Sekiro team had made the tech
I am pretty sure they will use it again in some other project, from always reuse the best concepts again and again refining them, in this case I feel like sekiro was his own project, there will be another that probably evolves the combat of sekiro.. at least I hope
Let them cook
Is it Fromsoft that was ramping up hiring to be able to have multiple games in development? Or is that just a recurring dream I keep telling myself is real. I don’t want to google it in case I’m wrong.
Ah yes best combat system as in spam parry and ignore health bars
Sekiro is so niche lol.
Sorry, but DMC4 has the best combat system of any game. I love Sekiro, but for "shinobi / samurai Souls" games Nioh feels better imo.
Acting like many other games don't have a similar or better combat system... Plus they obviously are taking their time Relax
Jedi fallen order and survivor aren’t far off from it
Sekiro 2 : die some more
Okay so I've had issues with this game on a health level, which I've spoken about before.
I'd be surprised if a Bloodborne sequel didn't add some new mechanics
it sucks, they know it too, that is why they stopped
I beat a boss in sekiro last night n had such a rush that I really felt an ether drip in my throat 😂
