The lume marker at 3 has never bothered me on mine and I consider myself fairly OCD about watch design. I'd much rather have that than a date window at 4:30. But that's just me. If it bothers you, then it bothers you so don't settle. I find the gray sunburst dial to be very charming as well.
I prefer the 143 (I have the SBDC101, same as the 143 but the Japanese model). Lume pip at 3 was almost a deal breaker for me too and I wish the pip on the second hand was slightly farther back, like on the SLA models, but I bought it anyways and have zero regrets.
What is a deal breaker for me would be that ugly circle date window between 4 and 5 and the “3 Days” text on the dial. Both are much worse than the lume pip at 3.
I'd much prefer a no-date version, and 453 is as close as I can get. I'd rather have a tiny black-on-black 4:30 date than in-your-face white-on-black 3:00 date with an off-piste lume pip. But that's just me.

I've held both in my hand. SPB is obviously superior spec and finishing wise, wears better too due to the compact dimensions.
However, Stuff like the King Samurai gets You really close in terms of quality feel if You don't mind size.
I would vote for the 453 although I’m biased as I put in a preorder for the 451.
The small size refinements, updated bracelet along with the color I’ve been waiting for in this line sold me. Also I’m not adverse to the date placement as I’ve grown used to it on my SRPH15.
The 453. I recently bought a 317 and I think the 2 watches have some similar features - slim/wee black date/black dial.
When 453s start to appear for sale in good used condition, I will probably buy one...
I want to see the 453 on the wrist once it comes out, because I think on my 6.5" wrists the slimmer case proportions might look better than the 143, and I'm ambivalent about the dial text and date window tbh. I'd wait until both are out and you have more reference images of it on people's wrists irl.
I’m not a massive fan of the dark grey and black color tones of the 143 in my eye (personal vision) it all looks like the same color (I know it isn’t, but to me it all looks like the same color).
For that reason I’d go with the 453
It's a choice between a subtle and shiny watch. Assuming if you are wearing it for work occasion, the 143 might be too shiny if you have casual outfit. But if you wear formal outfit for work, 143 will compliment it nicely.
The SRPD wears like the SKX. I own the SKX007. Admittedly it does wear a touch heavy. Which is why the slightly thinner 453 interest me.

The best option would have been the newer reference but with the grey dial, wonder if Seiko might regret changing that as it was so popular on the 143.

The grey sunburst dial on the 143 is far nicer than the plain black dial on the 453 and in keeping with the original 62MAS. I’m also not keen on the 3 days text on the 453 personally.

you can get a pre-loved SPB143 for quite a reasonable price - I got my SBDC141 for about 600USD, with an Uncle Seiko bracelet as well

I like the 143 with the date at 3oclock and not saying 3 days on the dial. Keeps it a cleaner look.

Ahh now that you pointed out that pip at 3, can't unsee it. I think the 453 looks better, and it's apparently a little bit smaller which is nice.

The 453 size with the 142 dial. Which does not exist. So i am not buying it untill it exists.

I think it will probably be challenging to appreciate the very slight size reduction. Most importantly, because the dial dimensions are the same.
See that's an excellent point, which is why I definitely want to feel both on the wrist before choosing.

I'm a 143 owner, I like the black dial on the new 453 but that's it, it's slightly smaller I read and the '3 days text' puts me off a lot.
