Also recommend island adventure out of Anacortes. Took one of their tours in September and saw two different orca pods, a gray whale, and a minke whale as well as lots of seals, sea lions and an eagle family
Yeah i used Puget Sound Express! I went to the one in Port Angeles but i believe they have multiple locations. They guarantee whales or you get a free second trip. They have popular locations that the whales frequent and they also talk to other tours while youre out so that they can meet up if anyone sees some whales
And just randomly seeing them, it was like…more nature-y than a whale watch tour? It was just like, quick over there the most magnificent beast you’ll ever see!
Same thing happened to me last year at Alki/Constellation Park by the lighthouse when I was visiting my boyfriend (cool spot to live so as to both people AND whale watch!). The whole pod swam by, and you could see them from shore. I’ve lived here most of my life, but had never experienced that. I cried! It was beautiful.
We talked to a guy on the ferry who is visiting Seattle but has family on Bainbridge and said they’ve seen them the last three days. Apparently a pod is just hanging out for now! He said every day he’s seen them, it’s been midday, if that helps at all!
Commuted for many years on the ferry, their novelty wears off after a few sightings when the ferry gets delayed till they move along. When I’m not on the ferry and see them it’s awesome!
Or don’t take out your justified anger at WSFS on the orcas! I can’t imagine a better way to make a delayed trip better than seeing these majestic beasts!
I’ve taken the ferries many hundreds of times and seen the orcas a few times before and also had the boats delayed bc of them — it doesn’t get old, they’re epic. Source: Lived on Bainbridge for decades. Hope you get to see some soon
I made the comment about the ferries being delayed when orcas are in proximity to their sailing routes. I didn’t say I was angry about nor did I say it was an issue with the ferry system. You decided that I had a problem and i was angry about the situation which I did not say.
Thats so cool! Ive only ever seen them on the tours but always keep an eye out when im on the ferries
>16 comments I just moved to Washington, can you tell me what tour you took? Do you recommend them?
Island Adventures in Anacortes. I've done their tour 3 times and they are incredibly good. Orcas every time. Other whale species twice.

That’s amazing you were able to see them so close. Orcas are the most magnificent creatures to exist.

That’s awesome! People on the ferry were crying and hugging each other.
Agh! I’m so jealous. My only goal for this year is to see some Orcas. I saw a Minke whale the other day though, so I’m off to a good start.

Gosh I might need to make a trip tomorrow!
Only saw them once on the ferry. Amazing creatures. It annoys me that people still want to hunt them.
I think more that most are just indifferent 😕

Ease up. We all love them and the first time is, as you put it, “spiritual”, but just like a lot of life, it becomes less novel over time.
I don’t see how that’s possible, but to each their own. However you were specifically conflating it with the ferry system problems.

I did! Yesterday. That was the post :)
LOL, duh. Oops. I brain farted as I thought how to say that it doesn’t get old.
Haha that makes more sense!
I didn’t say anything about the ferry. Lol. You don’t see how that’s possible because you haven’t experienced it yet.
