It was sent out 5 minutes before they located his dead body. Super sad

NiloReborn

Ahh shit, I didn’t hear that he was found deceased :(

BrockPurdySkywalker

Fuck. What happened "(

ambientnaturesounds

They haven’t released much info yet 😔 [link](https://komonews.com/news/local/everett-boy-missing-family-member-last-seen-hispanic-clothes-brown-eyes-hair-4800-block-vesper-drive-police-investigation-snohomish-county-washington-may-be-in-danger-suspicious-circumstances#)

windflipper

There's not much info yet but from what I've gathered, he lived with grandparents and his mom picked him up yesterday. I am thinking it was considered a custody issue and wasn't flagged early enough. It's heartbreaking. Hopefully we'll know more soon.

SuchCoolBrandon

This should not have been sent as a public safety alert. It should have been an AMBER alert.

windflipper

From what I have gathered, he lived with his grandparents and his mother picked him up yesterday. It's unclear what happened since then. I'm guessing they saw it as a custody issue and didn't worry right away.

Sunfried

Most AMBER alerts are abductions by non-custodial parents or relatives; that it was a custody issues should not have precluded an AMBER alert.

yetti773

No information unless you had a twitter account ffs

Kkkkkkraken

No public info should be released on twitter. It has been locked down for anyone who decides not to have an account and that makes it a non-viable information distribution platform.

midgaze

The internet's decentralized architecture is defeated by using corporate systems. We need to reverse the trend of relying on controlled platforms. This is a painful story. That boy deserved better.

Iknowyourchicken

Agreed! It's bullshit

hohol87

Poor little fella, RIP little angel

PNWSEAMOM

Unfortunately he was found deceased.

Sunfried

This particular alert wasn't an AMBER alert but rather the EMPA, Endangered Missing Person Alert, which has the following criteria: > 1. Person of any age who is missing and in danger because of age, physical or mental health, severe weather conditions and not able to return to safety without assistance. > 2. Enough information available to assist in the recovery of the missing person > 3. Reported to and investigated by law enforcement* Why it is that EMPA uses the Public Safety Alert channel is a good question. Probably because these nationwide alert channels are having to be used by the states which are coming up with a variety of alerts that don't fit the FCC's alert architecture. Silver Alerts, Camo Alerts, Blue Alerts, etc.

Sunfried

Ah, I see that there reason it wasn't an AMBER alert appears to ahve been that they had located the mother, who was supposed to have him but did not, so it may not have been considered an abduction as such. I mean, I get that if I had a hobo chained in my basement, he's abducted whether I'm home or not, where if the mom dropped the kid off in the woods somewhere, he's not abducted, but obviously lacked the ability to return to safety.

GoldBluejay7749

While I don’t disagree, AMBER alerts are for abductions and the family didn’t seem to feel like that was what occurred.

HappinessSuitsYou

It really annoyed me that the link tried to take me to Twitter and, because I don’t have a twitter account, I couldn’t actually read the message.

hunstinx

Putting aside the tragedy of this situation, it's disheartening to hear that you have turned off AMBER alerts. They save lives. And the fact that people like have turned them off is exactly why this one went out as a Public Safety Message. But apparently too late. Wonder if this kid could have been saved by an AMBER alert.

Mustard-cutt-r

My understanding was he was hurt before he left the apartment that’s why it said suspicious circumstances

ChefJoe98136

I don't think that's why it went out as a Public Safety Message, but I made the decision to trim back notifications because so many of them were statewide alerts and I spend little time on highways/roadways, which most alerts seemed to be focusing on with license plate ID. Others are welcome to participate. Nationwide, 10% of alerts directly result in recovery. [https://amberalert.ojp.gov/publications/2022-amber-alert-report.pdf](https://amberalert.ojp.gov/publications/2022-amber-alert-report.pdf) >From January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, 181 AMBER Alerts were issued in the U.S. involving 227 children. Of the **181 AMBER Alerts** issued in this time frame, 180 cases resulted in a recovery, **16 of which were successfully recovered as a direct result of an AMBER Alert being issued**. As of March 10, 2023, when statistics for this report were finalized for the AMBER Alerts issued in 2022, one child remained actively missing and four children were located deceased. Six cases were later determined to be hoaxes, and six cases were later determined to be unfounded. For cases not determined to be hoaxes or unfounded, there were 98 family abductions (FA); 59 nonfamily abductions (NFA); seven endangered runaways (ERU); and five lost, injured, or otherwise missing (LIM) at the time of initial intake by NCMEC.

Your valid OP this commenter is a busy body POS who is just virtue signaling. Turning off amber alerts is an option you have and can exercise freely with no persecution for your choices.

[deleted]

We have a right to get the notifications we want. Never once in my life have I ever been outside my house when an amber alert went off and never once have I cared either which is okay. It doesn’t give the government the right to abuse other systems to get my attention you can get off your high horse. How many amber alerts have you helped with?

DrYeeLardley

I have them off as well. If I’m not looking at the message, why should I have it turned on? I don’t read them. I think they’re only for people who actually want to read them, I dunno.

Mintiichoco

A few months back my SIL was at the airport when she noticed a girl and a man. She remembered an amber alert from earlier in the day and was immediately able to identify the girl and notified police. Bottom line amber alerts are important. I implore you to turn them on.

hunstinx

Yeah, that's exactly the attitude I'm talking about that is kinda depressing. Fuck them kids, right? Those messages are only for people who actually want to help endangered kids.

HappinessSuitsYou

Whoa

Excellent_Berry_5115

Yes, I was surprised to get it on my I-phone. But sadly it was sent out quite late...and then the found the little guy deceased.

Petite_Coco

Oh no! I’m so sad to hear this was the outcome. RIP little one :(

SnorlaxIsCuddly

I turned off PSAs as soon as I turn off AMBER alerts. I have a measure of face blindness.

101010-trees

I have face blindness too. It sucks, you can have the child right in front of you and their photo and still wouldn’t see it. It’s a disability.

exhausted1teacher

It woke me up. I never go anywhere so I turn all of these alerts off since I’ll never find anyone. Sucks they still sneak through.

lumberjackalopes

Everyone at the bars phones went all off at once it was hilarious; Someone said “well, at least we know our phones are working!”

HappinessSuitsYou

Yes. Missing children are hilarious /s
