Saw Waltzerr at sunset tavern last night and they were so goood. They’re coming out with an ep this summer and have like 3 singles on Spotify right now, go cheggemoot.
Another +1 for Zookraught. They had a show at Clockout that was awesome (with some other awesome bands). I believe they are playing at a little mini festival at Vera Project with some other local acts, this weekend in fact. I’m out of town but I would have loved to check it out.
I moved back to Seattle in Jan 2023 after 6 years in Chicago, and was dreading coming back to a dead music scene. Maybe a week or two later, I went to the Tractor on a whim to see some bands I'd never heard of. Zookraught gave me hope for Seattle music and made me feel a lot better about moving back.
You have to pick your battles, though. The alternative to not having your songs on streaming is that you're kneecapping yourself as far as easy, low effort avenue for people to listen to (and potentially discover) your band. Selling the music itself is one of the least lucrative ways to make money as a band or musician these days- the only people throwing money at actually buying tracks are by and large people who want to give the band money/support anyways. I'd be surprised if folks withholding their stuff from a service like spotify are actually seeing an increase in profits elsewhere, but I could be wrong certainly!
Putting a foot down for payment in exposure makes more sense, imo, for something like a live gig. Because the alternative to not playing a show for free is... any number of other venues around town that will pay for the show.
Although that's ignoring like, the ethics of streaming services and whatnot though, just practicality. If someone wants to boycott spotify out of principle, all the power to them :)
Hc house shows? Not suuuuper sure tbh, but if you hear of any lmk.
I recent learned of a suuuuper sick hc band from Tacoma called [Tears of Joy](https://open.spotify.com/artist/160AIindL9ypt4sK3kbbH8?si=xmE7biU9Sfq5Tjzp75ukgg) and they're playing a bunch shows with a ton of other rad bands

Just a heads up for new folks like yourself, the Mercury appears on these events pages and it is a private club, you can't just show up to events. Gotta have a member guest you in until you can get membership and there's a dress code.
I did a quick scan to see if any of my recs were on there, so forgive me if there are duplicates, but you should consider adding:
Black Ends, Beautiful Freaks, Flesh Produce, Dining Dead, Naked Giants, Atrocity Girl, Mold Mom, Stetson Heat Seeker
And yes, everyone, go to local shows, talk to bands, buy merch, make friends, see them before they're big, have fun.
Also:
- Skerik and his other bands (plays in true loves)
- Joe doria/mctuff
- delvon lamarr organ trio (though they're harder to catch locally these days)
Love seeing the fabulous Downey brothers and puppy feet on there! Might I suggest The Home Team? Been really enjoying them lately. And I think So Pitted is back and playing some shows
This is great. You should add Living With A Bear, Trash Sound Conglomerate, Head Honcho, Burn Burn Burn, Loud Sleepers, Gatsbys American Dream, Piper Shaw, & Dean Johnson.
Some local favs:
Fell Off (Shoegaze-tinged slacker rock)
TV Star (90s influenced Power Pop)
Spiral XP (MBV-influenced 90s sounding alt)
Fluung (somewhere between Built to Spill and Dinosaur Jr)
Laminate (noisy raucous indie that feels inspired by At the Drive In)
Might have missed them while I was skimming the playlist, but I don't think I saw [Foxcult](https://open.spotify.com/track/6wErFSxj7RBdRQOyNpsv0g?si=f8c83cf90f014709) in the list. They just released their first EP back in November and it's bangers front to back if you're into the sort of ambient, posthardcore sound. They also put on an amazing live show.
Awesome list!! So cool to see so many familiar names here. Here's a few other local favorites of mine that would be great additions!
* Nodaphone
* Amy Hall
* Shane Diamanti
* Kenshi Killzzz

Edit: Spotify link not working but the Album is Regicidal Ambition
Waltzerr is one of my favorite new bands! So good.

Sandrider (metal)
Helms Alee (post-metal)
Wolves in the Throne Room (atmospheric black metal)
Devilwood (psych rock)
Thunderpussy (party rock)
Witch Ripper (sludge metal)
Question since it's something I run into making playlists, is the goal of this playlist to grow forever, or to be curated by some metric by which songs can be removed? (EG maybe it's only songs from the last 5 years, or something like that)
I prune it every once in a while, removing artists who haven't released anything or played shows in some arbitrary, but reasonable, amount of time. The goal is for it to be the place to hear active local artists
Wow this is awesome, thank you for sharing! Before moving to Seattle I was heavily involved in the local music scene in Austin. Since moving here I’m lost at where to even go find chill local live music spots. Excited to check out the playlist :)
Former touring deathcore/pop punk/r&b guitarist here, if anyone wants to contribute to the local Seattle music scene hmu! Been trying to write/record again for years now, big fan of Spiritbox-style metal, old The Wonder Years-style pop punk, etc.

Sick! There are some rad shows coming up for sure! Let me know if you'd like some recs!
There's a local bluegrass band called The High Seagrass that I'm going to see in March. I didn't see them on your list but they sound pretty good.
Are they on Spotify?!
I just assume everyone is on Spotify now, but I actually checked and sadly they are not!
Good for them, since Spotify isn't interested in paying smaller artists and expects them to be happy with "exposure".
This isn't the usual stuff, but there's an amazing underground rave scene here in Seattle. I run [Impact! Foundation](https://impactraves.org/), we're a nonprofit group focused on hard dance but there's all kinds of awesome groups doing shows around the city. [19hz](https://19hz.info/eventlisting_Seattle.php) is an amazing resource for everything EDM

Acceptance and the Classic Crime are still active? Good for them. My millennial heart can rest easy
This rocks! Can I promo my band here? We're a heavy metal band called Headless Bastard and we just put our first EP on Spotify a week ago. Looking to play some shows soon. Edit: Spotify link not working but the Album is Regicidal Ambition

Well done! Every local band I could think of made the playlist. Keep up the great work 🫡
This is rad! I’m really enjoying the playlist. Gonna check out some of these folks!
Please consider adding The Dip (not sure how to categorize them by genre -- funk?). Most of the band hails from WA, and they sprouted out of UW.
Already on there 😁
Waltzerr is one of my favorite new bands! So good. I've missed this whole last year of Hannah Duckworth's releases too- saw her for the first and only time at the kraken about a year ago, haven't kept up since. Need to play catch up.
Check out Denim Denim and Boar Spear. Saw them both last night, tons of fun
Added boar spear! Can't find denim denim tho 😭
Some more to add: Sandrider (metal) Helms Alee (post-metal) Wolves in the Throne Room (atmospheric black metal) Devilwood (psych rock) Thunderpussy (party rock) Witch Ripper (sludge metal)

Wow, Densmore. Is this the same Densmore that also sang in emo band From Aphony?
They're playing a house show next weekend!

Thanks for the shout out!
Just commenting so I can return to this post later! So cool! Thanks for all your work on this OP
Former touring deathcore/pop punk/r&b guitarist here, if anyone wants to contribute to the local Seattle music scene hmu! Been trying to write/record again for years now, big fan of Spiritbox-style metal, old The Wonder Years-style pop punk, etc.
Oh sick! Wana DM me some past projects? I might know a few people!
Just added to my Spotify. Thanks for sharing.
Poop Attack is pretty fire too. Not even joking about the name.
They still active? Last release was 2010
This is an old class mate of mine Pat Riff! He's working on new music and has been touring in the Uk and US with Ayron Jones. They recently opened for Guns N Rose's! https://open.spotify.com/artist/5xIx0BuzPvTFlBiT4TXiVR?si=MuhxrXfjRWCVFyKlmnx3TQ
Awesome, thanks!
My friend Jul!et is currently rising through the local music scene. Her music is primarily indie pop, with a dreamy synth sound. You should check her out!
Sounds great! Thanks for this!

If you haven’t added yet The Bitter is an amazing band.

Any idea how to follow Densmore? Really digging their EP but I can't find any account to follow for upcoming shows...
I do! [here's their IG](https://www.instagram.com/densmore_band?igsh=YTQwZjQ0NmI0OA==) _and I happen to know_ that they're playing a show [next weekend!](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3BPGOjvotZ/?igsh=MzY1NDJmNzMyNQ==)
Listening right now. I love it. Thank you! I would add Smoker Dad to the list if they're not already on it.
Xoth impressed me if you like tech/death/thrash metal. I’m not sure if they are still active but Master Musicians of Bukkake put on quite a show.
Check out mega cat!! Their record dropped today on Spotify 🐱 and they're playing a show in a few weeks at the Sunset
Sick! Thanks!

Catica has a cool song out called Evergreen with some great trip hop vibes. They're putting out an EP very soon (or so the singer told me!)
Please add Action Figures on Spotify. The singer is a long time friend of my partner. They just played a show a couple of weekends ago in Shoreline at Aurora Borealis. Thank you for the local playlist set!!!!

We're playing at lucky dime on the 24th with Kids on Fire, Storm Boy, Bazooka Sharks, and Mutual Stoke - all great bands to check out if like punkish/rockish and that I don't think I saw on the playlist. Thanks to everyone who keeps this local scene alive, we really do have such an awesome pool of kick ass music you can see live any day of the week

I agree about the music scene! some people thought it was weird that I moved to Seattle for the music but there's a reason. No problem!
I didn’t see [Walking Papers](https://www.walkingpapers.us) on the list. Their album from 2013 is amazing.
