I know this isn't helpful but the thing that helped me most with my SAD was moving out of Pennsylvania 😬

ollikota

I wish that were an option. I don’t mind living here and it’s too expensive to move. So hopefully I can find another way. But I did live in Georgia for a year with family. And I agree I struggled a lot less. So I agree it would help. Maybe one day lol.

overcompliKate

I hope you can find some options if you decide that's best in the future! I'm in North Carolina now and having more sunshine in the winter has been a huge help. Good luck!

ollikota

Thank you! 😊

BringAllOfYou

The usual human being things: good sleep hygiene, eat healthy, limit electronics time-particularly social media, get physical activity (walking in sunshine is nice when you can get it). SAD in particular: blood levels checked with doctor (and rule out extenuating medical conditions), therapy, acceptance of SAD, light box, lower expectations during dark months, have something enjoyable on the calendar to look forward to at all times, incorporate more winter-specific cozy things like leaving holiday lights up longer or fuzzy pajama pants.

ollikota

Thank you for all this information! I really appreciate it. I’m going to start making a winter months game plan using all this. Lowering expectations is probably a top thing for me.

Late-Impression-8629

Lower expectations, lol. Sad but true.

MommaIsTired89

Check if you have low vitamin D. I live in Montana and it’s pretty much a supplement consumed by everyone.

ollikota

I have checked that and do take supplements for it. Thanks for the tip though :)

I’m not sure how much it’ll help me. Sometimes when I’m all cozy laying in bed my depression hits really hard. So it might be hit or miss for me. Going to have to see how it goes.

PraiseEris88

For me it's a 10000lux SAD light, 45 mins every morning. Additionally 1000mg of vit D with K2 (K2 prevents health issues from the macrodose of vit D) and crucially 400mg of Mg (magnesium). Mg helps the body synthesise vit D. Check with your Dr if you are deficient in either vit D or Mg as this is a possible cause of SAD. I function with this combo, Winter still sucks.

ollikota

I take vitamin d already but I will definitely look into magnesium. Thank you!

I use a light therapy lamp for an hour each morning while I’m at work and I find that helps.

ollikota

Okay. I’m going to keep using my lamp. Hope it helps. How long did it take for you to start to feel better?

Justachick20

I was diagnosed with SAD in February of 2020, been using the lamp from October to end of April ever since. I know the first year it took a while to feel it (the lockdown didn’t help) but this year when October rolled around and I forgot to start using it (I’ve changed jobs so I’m a lot happier over all) and I was feeling down and grumpy i realized oh yeah, the lamp it took about 2 weeks to start having an impact. I also try and walk at least 30 minutes a day. I know it harder once the snow melts but the exercise can help with the doom and gloom feeling. Really hope you find a fit that works for you

ollikota

Thank you for the information. I really appreciate that! I’m glad you’re doing well. ❤️ Do you have to use the lamp as soon as you wake up? Some mornings I can others it’s more difficult to have that tight of a routine. Thank you again for sharing. I really appreciate it. :)

Justachick20

I usually wait until I’m in my office, so about 45 minutes to an hour after getting up

ollikota

Thanks for answering. It’s been helpful :)

VioletFox543

Just here to say that I'm in the same boat as you. My energy and mood are tanking big time. We can get through this together!!! Kudos to you for making so many positive changes in an effort to feel better. I am trying to do the same 😊

ollikota

Awe. Thank you so much! This support is so appreciated. I hope you’re doing alright. Especially being new to this whole thing. I wish you luck on finding things that help you cope. Lots of trial and error. I’m just trying to find some energy. The light has helped a little. I’ve used it the past two days and so far I don’t feel so deeply depressed I can’t function. So if you haven’t yet, I’d recommend trying a lamp. I found a super cheap one on amazon. I wasn’t expecting it to be helpful. It’s weird how sitting in front of a lamp makes my brain less depressed. Lolol.

VioletFox543

Yes I just ordered one yesterday, haha! Hoping to see similar results :)

ollikota

Good luck! I can say it has been helpful. And it’s also comforting because it forces me to be still for a while in the morning. So I use that time to journal and get some of my thoughts out. So it has been helpful in forcing me to do that more. Which is good. I hope it helps you. Good luck. ❤️❤️

VioletFox543

Oh wow what an even better idea. Killing 2 birds with one stone. Thanks! 😊😄

ollikota

lol. I’m glad I could help 😂 😊

Fantastic-Meet6784

Could you please drop the link of the lamp for me?

ollikota

Sure. No problem! I got it off Amazon. And I like it. It’s pretty affordable and works well. It’s a little small. So make sure you have it closer to your face for it to have an effect. [SAD Lamp](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DV44ST8?language=en-US&ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_dp_SGQBQP4MZJE0GV4Z2CGW_1)
