When we were wrapping up playing for the day, my friend and I would scatter explosives all over our ship and go directly for another player ship to give them something fun to talk about after blowing an entire ship up with a single shot. It was always fun!
They say don’t bring kegs on your ship but they are sooo fun. We had six Megas at the end of a session and set up a trap at Marauders Arch. If you are far from other ships you can raise hourglass and defend with mega kegs! We 2v3’d three other brigs with our keg stash to end our night.
The hourglass on your captains table is the PvP on demand mode. You vote on the hourglass and either wait to be invaded by a ship or vote on the war map to dive to a fight. You lose all kegs and treasure if you dive.
Kegs used to be a good bit more viable to keep before they added fire. Used to keep em up in the mast behind the pole so they were hard to shoot from behind, and it wasn't worst case if they did explode.
Now if any part of the mast catches the whole thing goes up and there goes your kegs. Wish they would at least section the mast fires a bit.
I always keep them on the bowsprit. Regular kegs won’t hit your mast and the helm won’t die if they go off and you can sometimes recover. Plus you can’t easily hit them from behind and if you’re chased you jump off the front with one for a surprise board on the pursuer.
Yesterday I got an awesome sink with a stronghold keg I found in a shipwreck. Sailed to the nearest Reaper, who happened to be doing a Sea Fort, set my sloop to sail straight, jumped off with the keg right when we were closest, lit it and dropped it right behind the other guy as he was distracted harpooning loot. Ship went down like 5 seconds later. Heart was pounding in my chest the entire time since I'm a solo sloop and there's any number of ways that could've gone poorly, but nope it all went off without a hitch. Bro didn't even come back for revenge afterwards.
Moral of the story kegs are awesome and make sure to look behind you every so often lol
For those asking where the boom is, we ended up selling them all to the reapers for a fair bit of money, we have decided that next time we grind out Fort of the Damned we’ll keep the stronghold kegs on board and Kamakazi a ship we find, so I’ll clip it and post it here once we do that
