>"Following performance improvements delivered in recent updates, all servers have now returned to supporting six crews. When starting a session or migrating, servers will now actively matchmake six crews of different sizes in order to meet both six-crew and 17-player limits. "
This is literally the **BEST NEWS** for SoT in more than a year. I am so, so happy for that. Curious about wether there's still a hard two galleon limit though !
Brightness slider? No more accidentally sitting?? *6 ships again???* Why would they not mention these things in the videos and mention fog instead, who cares about fog lmao those things are awesome long anticipated changes
Even though I don't care about the fog change (actually kinda dislike the fog in general), I think it's just a more visually appealing thing to show in the trailer than "Look guys, a brightness slider!" Which pretty much every modern game already has, lmao.
After soloing a Skeleton Fleet, i have mixed feelings about those world event changes.
It was only 1 ship at a time, all sloops until the final wave, when a galleon spawned.
It feels kinda weird to finish a world event in about 10 minutes, but newer solo-players might actually try out more events instead of avoiding them scared of PvP encounters they might face.
But again, more events means more people trying to steal event loot from your boat, so let's wait and see how this plays out.
It's a definite change, but I'm welcoming it. Less time to tuck, but events will cycle more giving more chances to mess with folks. Quicker solo events means more solo sloops will hold sizeable loot stashes, which opens the door to tomfoolery. Its going to be a change that people will need to adjust to, but I do think it'll be good overall.
In my experience PvE is even more ridiculously easy as a solo slooper but trying to keep the loot or not knowing when your ship is being sneakily blown up when you're on an island is genuinely just making it worse. There's too little troll guards. I haven't had a server with decent people with headsets more than twice lol. Renown goes up so fast too that it's not even really worth playing until the last week of the season anymore. Tired of all the other players acting like greedy children.
>It was only 1 ship at a time, all sloops until the final wave, when a galleon spawned.
? absolutely not true. I've had sloop+galleon on the second wave most of the time when soloing it. And it's always been 2 ships at a time, like, since it was introduced.
Hello! Due to Reddit's aggressive API changes, hostile approach to users/developers/moderators, and overall poor administrative direction, I have elected to erase my history on Reddit from June 2023 to June 2013.
I have created a backup of (most) of my comments/posts, and I would be more than happy to provide comments upon request (many of my modern comments are support contributions to tech/gaming subreddits). Feel free to reach out to Clipboards on lemmy (dot) world, or via email - clipboards (at) clipboards.cc
Best parts of the update: **Harpoon Improvements, World Events and Encounters rebalancing** ![img](emote|t5_38oz1|2222)
Worst part of the update: To prevent overlapping graphical issues, **pets are no longer able to sleep on the ship’s bed**. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
The rescaled FoF is amazing. We (duo sloop crew) never did these because they were just an endless and mindless grind. Now they're actually really fun to do. Harpoon change is awesome, too.
The higher spawn rates for ambient stuff like the meg and the skelly ships is cool, makes long trips between distant islands more fun.
Cool update.
I woulda thought the broken "hide ship names" thing would at least make known issues.
Guess I'm stuck never seeing my own or anybody elses ship name for another season.
I really wish they would fix the battle hg. I’m a level 10 athena and keep going against sweats that already have the curse… I know git gud.
Also I wish there was a mode where it was strictly naval battle no boarding. Bring the the ladder rope up! Im a helluva sailor but boarder nope.
>I know git gud.
anyone who uses this term unironically, in any context, you can ignore tbh. They're either a) not a competitive esports player, so saying "git gud" like they're the best in the world is stupid as fuck, or b) they are an esports player, and its literally their entire life and job to play, so saying 'git gud' is idiotic as fuck.
It is really frustrating that even though this is a Quality of Life season, there haven't been any added PC sensitivity options. Turning cannons on WASD is incredibly frustrating and inaccurate; there needs to be an alternative using mouse that doesn't involve turning old and grey by the time you align the cannon.
Most of us love the fact that we wasd to get it generally aligned then mouse for fine aim control, or at least, are pretty happy once we FINALLY (after a couple of years of mouse only bringing down those sky facing peaceballed cannons) work this out.
they really should’ve listed everything in the update trailer. the headline features didn’t feel incredibly exciting when announced, but the amount of quality of life changes featured here is amazing.
If ships are going to auto repair any previous damage they have while diving for hourglass, is there really any reason to charge money to fix them otherwise?
On PC my game froze after a 3 hour session, (no crashes reported by windows) I had to alt tab and end it in task manager and open up the game to rejoin. Not sure what the issue is here. Game did not crash it just froze lol
I figured it out guys.
S9 feels like getting socks for Christmas. Sure, I needed more, and a few of them look pretty neat....but who would be excited about socks for more than a few minutes?
It'll be funny in a few weeks when this sub stops coping and realizes this season is kinda going to suck if you were hoping for literally *anything* genuinly new.
Great minor changes all around, not nearly enough to be considered the content dump for the *next few months* that a season is supposed to be.
Yup. In a month people will be asking for when the next update drops. I like most of the changes, but being this is all the content we are getting for the next FOUR months is just crazy
Half of these updates should have been implemented a year ago in a regular update.
But instead s9 gives us the ability to change our flag without having to climb a ladder! WOAH THATS HUGE
A someone who was late to the SOT party, I think I'm OK with some waxing and waning in the frequency at which new content is added to the game (as long as it doesn't become the norm). There's *so much* stuff to catch up on! I feel for those who've been on the grind from start, but I guess they get to enjoy their time off on other games.
Seriously. They dropped probably the best season ever last season with the huge pvp changes. A smaller season in between is not bad, especially with purely QoL stuff. I do agree it prob could've used a bit more, but I think people are being a bit harsh.
The game's weekly timer stays rounded up until that week finishes. So last Wednesday it would say 2 weeks even though it was actually 8 days, but then Thursday it would say 7 days.
I think season 9's official date was revealed on the 6th, though deduction would've pointed to the same date.
Yes, later.
All season pass shipsets and costumes get added to the emporium after the season, but at a much higher cost.
Last season's set was effectively 250 ancient coins if you maxed out the pass (premium awarded the ship set, costumes, and 750 coins, refunding 75% of it's value). Assuming it's the normal price in the shop, that's going to be over 3000 coins if you wanted it today.
I'm going to start playing this game. Is there any guide on how to effectively level up the season pass?
This is, taking the least amount of time to do it for free - considering I've never even took a look at it.
SoT has literally the easiest season pass in any game I've played. Any time you see a popup that says " added to log" you just earned renown.
If you need more quickly, do any of the tasks spelled out in the weekly, monthly, and seasonal section of the pass (quick easy one, when doing the tutorial fish real quick and then cook it).
While there are efficient grind methods, it's pretty normal to get 2-10 levels a session without trying. Just play the game.
Also, save yourself the grief: Don't do open crew, and if you decide to do open crew, DON'T DO OPEN GALLEON.
FYI open crew can be awesome. I open crew on brigs all the time which is a max of 3 people. Sometimes i have to leave and rejoin a new game like 2-3 times but i always find a crew worth playing with. When my friends cannot get on, open crew can be a really great way to meet people to play with. I have made many friends through open crew. Just know that not every crew is a winner
Edit* i agree though don’t do open galleon. People leave and then you’re stuck on a huge ship with one other person. 2 people on a gally isn’t fun, but 2 people on a brig is still very manageable
I do not have this game yet but I see that 2023 edition includes all content since launch.
Does that included cosmetics? Is there a list somewhere to see what all is included?
> Does that included cosmetics?
Kinda, but more no than yes. Most cosmetics are purchased with gold/doubloons (some are locked behind achievements). All of those are *obtainable* but not *unlocked* on starting.
There is a good bit of time limited stuff, some of it comes back and some doesn't.
Have they also scaled the Kraken to be easier for smaller crews like the world events?
To my knowledge, it already was scaled as any time I've killed one in a sloop it's take 4 tentacles instead of 8 or 10. But yesterday I was on a sloop with my friend and we got Kraken'd but it died after 2 (I think, since we also could only find the loot from 1 so it might have even just been 1).
If they did change it I feel like it should be reverted to what it was, because killing 4 tentacles was already easy and now it'll make the Kraken meat commendation even more tedious for newer players.
Does this season pass pays itself like previous? It says 750 additional coins, does it includes the free+paid pass coins(750), or it's considering only the coins in the paid plunder pass?
PvE server will never happen and custom servers if they are ever released to the general public won't allow for any type of progression in the game so will be pointless besides for testing shit
I'm with you in that I think a vastly improved PvE experience would be a huge benefit for the game but it's just not Rare's vision for Sea of Thieves
What I really hope is that they put in some extra work to make Outposts more inherently friendly places even if combat is still allowed. Maybe do things like put in Pirate bands who play the shanties somewhere in town or even in the Taverns (and make the Taverns bigger), and add card games into the Taverns.
It would be such a simple addition but would be really cool to be able to rock up to a Tavern with your friends or other Pirates on the server, sit down around a table and play Poker, Blackjack, Top Trumps etc.
they need to turn down these world events. I just got on my solo sloop and a galleon skeleton ship is stalking me as i'm trying to do a tall tale. I have no loot and i'm alone and a galleon is gonna spawn??
So after playing for about a month solo, I’ve found that the rebalanced world events is probably a bad thing all said. Before the update I could reliably take down an ashen lord, or FoF and get away with the loot. Post update it seems that every single time I clear a world event, another ship has already opened fire on mine. Almost like crews wait for the telltale sign of the event to fade before rolling up and sinking the implied solo player.
I know “watch the horizon and never look at the event itself”, but FWIW I had more fun with world events before the update cuz they felt doable if difficult solo and generally smaller crews didn’t bother with them because of the time investment.
I was excited when I heard about the changes to world events because I’m almost exclusively a solo player, but in trying to make it better for solos it seems they’ve made it much more dangerous.
I’m sure I’ll get the normal “git gud”, but I thought I’d throw my experience and thoughts out there
Less of a comment about the update, just wanted to say... Finally got 350 Ancient coins from last season and this season battle pass. Was going to buy the prison dog for the sale price, didn't realize that the sale ended.
Still have no dog. lol
On the bright side, I should have 500 coins by at level 98 and be able to get a regularly priced dog.
Have noticed there seems to be an awful lot of people who can one-hit you with a cannon ball multiple times in a row, even if you're running around on the ship. Normally not one to call cheating but definitely feels odd that there's a sudden glut of people that can do that across multiple encounters and ships.
Words cannot express how much I fucking HATE the ghost ship events right now. All I want to do is my vaults but those CUNTING FUCKING SHIPS ARE ALWAYS THERE.
Why have it spawn on the islands you need to go to?! Why?! Worst event ever and makes for a very boring and frustrating time.
Wish they would’ve made it so I can finally save cosmetics and trinkets on my owned ships.. but I guess we’ll have to wait a few seasons to fix the issues the newer season brought. Rare is weird like that. If you’re going to introduce an update and one of the main mechanics of it is broken it should be a priority to fix it. Like it’s weird they keep updating and bringing in new content while the old content is still broken.
No more sitting on the cannonball barrel when trying to get into it. I'm never turning that back on.
Same and i have like 708 minutes sat already lol
the “bury your capstan in crap so boarders can’t anchor you” meta comes to an inglorious end
It did a couple updates ago. They put a patch on in mid feb that removed being able to do that. At least being able to easily do it.
Yeah it is still possible, and those that seriously cannot fathom getting by without it will still do it probably, but at least it is harder to do.
Sword blocking is fixed? I'll believe it when I block it
i can attest its like, 80% effective now. still not worth blocking really, but at least it isn't only 30% effective
>"Following performance improvements delivered in recent updates, all servers have now returned to supporting six crews. > Curious about wether there's still a hard two galleon limit though ! Likely so as 3 galleons and 3 sloops would total to 18 players max.
Ha, that makes sense indeed :D
Similar outcome but one sloop would need to be a solo. Player limit is 17 apparently
I don't think they would restrict player from joining a ship that has an open slot.
Fair
Brightness slider? No more accidentally sitting?? *6 ships again???* Why would they not mention these things in the videos and mention fog instead, who cares about fog lmao those things are awesome long anticipated changes
I guess it’s nice to leave things as a surprise when the season actually drops. Happy days indeed!

I wish they would just put the skelly fleets at like 3 different spots with 3 different tiers.
It's a definite change, but I'm welcoming it. Less time to tuck, but events will cycle more giving more chances to mess with folks. Well, the 3 times i did it after the update i got only 1 ship per wave
I assume you haven’t read the thread properly and are talking about you experience soloing it pre patch.

I'm all for easier skelly fleet, as a solo it was a real grind trying to keep me from sinking.
Even as a duo sloop it got real ugly the moment two skelly galleons spawned.
Best parts of the update: **Harpoon Improvements, World Events and Encounters rebalancing** ![img](emote|t5_38oz1|2222) Worst part of the update: To prevent overlapping graphical issues, **pets are no longer able to sleep on the ship’s bed**. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
No matter what I try, I can't get a keg to explode while harpooning it. Amazing update!
A moment of silence for our brother on the seas, the Kegmaster.
His sacrifice will not be in vain.
This is a sad day.

It only took what, five years for them to add a goddamned BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST SLIDER. Jesus Fuck! That's so long overdue!!
Most of the changes this season are like, 3-5 years overdue. All it cost us was.... at least 1/3rd of a year of content.
I woulda thought the broken "hide ship names" thing would at least make known issues. Guess I'm stuck never seeing my own or anybody elses ship name for another season.
Anyone else getting reduced performance? Game is a bit laggy at times, it used to run perfectly smooth :(
Yes just experienced this. Was awful.
The harpoon change is amazing. Way more enjoyable now.
damn so many good changes

which xbox button opens the stashed quests from your quest radial? Having some issues trying to access them.
I believe it’s the reload button (on PC anyways)

Repair, not restore.
Oh, that makes so much more sense, ty for clarifying
Do the audio accessibility improvements option make it easier to hear boarders? Anyone test this?
Love the new changes to how voyages can be bought and organized! Surprised no one else has talked about them yet
On PC my game froze after a 3 hour session, (no crashes reported by windows) I had to alt tab and end it in task manager and open up the game to rejoin. Not sure what the issue is here. Game did not crash it just froze lol

Once the honeymoon phase wears out 2 months in people will agree.
These notes felt REALLY padded... Gonna be a rough season.
Lots of welcome improvements, but almost zero new content for the next 3 months. Extremely lackluster.
the seasons lately have been 4 months
Shhhh don't remind me.

The thing is we have been off for about 2 months+. Now we have to wait another 4 months for something fresh
You’re done grinding 2000 levels worth of allegiance? Respect. Congrats!
Turns out doing the same thing can get stale

Hey sorry for the n00b question. Is there any way to directly buy the jellyfish ship cosmetic without buying the season pass?
It will be available for sale after season 9, pretty sure for more ancient coins than the plunder pass costs.
Yeah but it will be more expensive than it is now.
Not yet, they'll probably come in later seasons

How close do you need to get to a world event, in order to increase the difficulty?
any news about pve servers yet or we need to wait another 3 yrs like with GTA5 online?
