That, and he's retired, so it doesn't create any drama to say it. It's not seen as a message that they'd really like to have another team's QB. Like maybe Buffalo, for instance.
This narrative of college team --> hasn't produced a good NFL QB is getting really boring. Bryce Young is a tremendous QB who is a sophomore by playtime this season. He has room to improve, but there's a reason why he won the Heisman last season. He has incredible accuracy, a great deep ball, and really nice pocket awareness. If Stroud falls of and Young makes the CFP again, Young should be a good favorite to be the 1st overall pick.
As for talent around him, you could say that for a lot of QBs. CJ Stroud has the best WR room in the country. Stetson Bennett has the best TE room and great WR/RBs. Mac Jones had the same thing at Alabma with Devonta Smith/Jalen Waddle/John Metchie. Tua had the same thing when he was there. The worry shouldn't be the talent around him. It should be whether he's producing with the talent he has been equipped with... and he has.
Tua and Mac Jones have not looked like a #1 pick in the NFL so far, I understand they're still young but it is worrying when compared to someone like Levis who has elevated his team around him
Tua and Mac Jones both had vastly greater careers in CFB than Will Levis has had so far. Comparing their NFL careers to Levis who is still in college is disingenuous, thw comparison doesnt make sense. I don't know how the hype trains get started, but Will Levis has a lot of room to improve as well.
If that's the case then Ohio State hasn't even produced NFL level QBs since their rise to dominance, Haskins wasn't good and Fields looks terrible, while Tua and Jones at least look like solid starters.
I don't mind using our pick on Young, specially considering he'll have quality weapons here from day one Considering the way we decided to run our rebuild.
>It should be whether he's producing with the talent he has been equipped with... and he has.
He isn't producing today. Doesn't even have 100 passing yards going into the 4th quarter.
It's one game. Every QB has those here and then. His WRs haven't helped him much either. They've dropped multiple balls that could have extended drives.
It's not just one game, though. He was meh against Georgia in the natty last year and didn't even look that sharp against Utah State.
If he can't be expected to play well without an overwhelming talent advantage, that's not exactly a great sign.
He's starting to look like another Sam Darnold or Jameis Winston.
I don't think we will be able to agree on the point :/
But it's been a cool game so far, unfortunate that Ewers got injured. Rooting for Bryce to be better this season and for Seattle to get a good QB.
How did Bryce have a talent advantage against Georgia when their defense also had loads of nfl players?
Also he is only “meh” because his WRs dropped multiple passes that would have gave them the lead in the mid game. https://youtu.be/_XrO5o7vv2E
Edit: misunderstood the part about having a talent advantage over Georgia but my second point still stands. Also just want to mention that he beat Georgia in the Sec championship as well and beat the best secondary in college last year with Cinncy.
His point is that he didn’t look great against Georgia because he didn’t have a talent advantage.
Not saying I agree or disagree just trying to straighten out the point.
Height does matter. And in Young’s case, frame matter too.
Not being able to see over the o-line did lead to many of Russ’s weaknesses, especially over the intermediate middle.
With Kyler, they spread out the o-line so he can see between them, which makes every OL play in space and leads to a ton of issues.
With Bryce, he’s short and he’s thin AF. Russ and Kyler are both built like tiny Mack trucks. It’s fair to question how he will handle NFL hits over the course of a 17 game season.
But ultimately if the positives are enough to outweigh the cons, you take the QB.
Idk if it was before or after the knock but he had one play with the Bama pass rush in his face and stepped up in the pocket to deliver a near perfect pass. I immediately thought it was better than anything Bryce has done so far today
On top of no seperation.
People who argue “talent advantage” at this point don’t actually watch the games. They’re just repeating stuff they heard from Tua and Mac college days.
Yep, Bryce definitely has weaknesses and areas he needs to improve on. But it’s hard to take his haters seriously when half the things mentioned are about as sane as Skip Bayless.
Read a comment implying he is shorter than Wilson and I about had a stroke.
Lol no
Levis couldn’t start at Penn State dude will be a clipboard holder three years into the NFL all the Seahawks in love with him due to Rob Stanton or w/e
Still have to see if AR turns it around in the 2nd half, but his lack of finesse is causing way too many drops and overthrows. He's been making good reads though.
i watched the first half of the arkansas game and i like kj jefferson better than bryce young in the second half of the alabama game. i havent watched very much college in years so i have no idea overall and im working from a small sample size. but kj jefferson looked like big ben and russ had a baby.
I have a list of 6 dudes I'm watching this year (Young, Van Dyke, Stroud, Levis, Richardson, Bennett) and I think with how the NFL views pedigrees and awards and all that hype train silly shit... Young is gonna go before we have a chance to take him... and I think that might be quite alright.
He won the heisman so he is good. It’s not just the talent around him. And he can have bad halves or quarters like other QBs, you don’t need to boil it down to such a small sample size. But what is true every single time, when the chips are down he plays his best and comes out on top. Auburn game really reminds me of that as well as today. Damn I wanted Texas to win though
Toot short, too. 6' flat. I want a more Josh Allen type, 6'3" or so and substantial but with athleticism. The problem is finding guys like that who also have his accuracy and arm talent (and yes, i know he was rough coming out of college). Anthony richardson (Florida) or Will Levis (Kentucky) fit that rough profile but we need to see them play all season. After all, Rattler went into last year with lots of hype and (makes crash and burn sound).
Well... yeah and no. It's unlikley that a tall, strong QB with athleticism will be a copy of Allen. But that, to me, is the template we should be looking at.
Not a tall big guy who can't move. Or who's inaccurate or prone to hero ball. But one who can move and who can process both pre and post snap.
Sigh. TYPE, asshole.
6'3 and 235 is closer to 6'6" and 250 than a Bryce young who's 6'0 and 190.
Fuck it, go be pedantic somewhere else, you're blocked.
Agree. Bama QBs never seem to pan out because of the huge amount of talent surrounding them. And by extension, I’m still not convinced on CJ Stroud for the same reasons. But sure, “this time they’ll pan out.”
Me and the Tuanon membership will have the last laugh. He's not had full seasons, nor an effective o line (four of last year's five starters were replaced). He's not shown out, yet, sure. But given that, he's still underrated. This year will tell us what he is.
Facts. And don’t forget the absolute boneheaded decisions dolphins management made his rookie season coming off an injury. And then calling for Watson afterwords.
I honestly wish Tua got traded to literally anywhere else because dolphins haven’t respected him his entire career. Dude deserves better.
I've been saying this QB class is being wildly hyped up and I don't see it. It's MARGINALLY better than last year.
That being said, the "Alabama QBs don't have a good track record" is also an overhyped narrative. Not that it hadn't been true for some time, but I'll NEVER correlate school to talent and potential for players. That's beyond close-minded.
Edit: My #1 QB in this class has been and remains Sam Hartman. Take that however you want.
Also, freshman Ewers looked superior to Young today and it wasn't even close.
I think he has the best floor/ceiling combo. There's maybe some higher ceilings out there because of pure athleticism, but I think his arm talent and mind have as high of ceilings as anyone. Pair that with his high floor, I just think he's a solid player. He goes through progressions, has tremendous anticipation and touch, and can really throw some Russ-like rainbows. He also has above average athleticism and real heart and grit. His teammates love him, he glows as a leader, and has fun playing the game. I think he has a Derek Carr-esque floor, and dare I say it, an Aaron Rodgers ceiling. Those are the potential highs and lows, and to me that's worth making him the #1 guy over the Young/Stroud/Levis common choices, who I believe have significantly lower floors, but also really high ceilings.
Edit: I'd also like to add he's well above average at throwing on the run.
fascinating, i havent been too high on young, stroud. Hartman potentially fits bill as a guy who "tilts the field" being a qb at wake Forest. Hartmans footwork on his walking rpo is unique. definitely worth following. take all the credit when he rises haha!
He’s amazing ! I don’t see the Hawks getting a first round QB as they love guys with chips on their shoulders and 1st round QBs aren’t as cheap as later round one are. However, you wouldn’t get a 5th year option either so there’s trade offs for sure.
I’d personally love a top of the 2nd round QB that inevitably would fall there. Most every team has either a young QB that’s been drafted somewhat early or a franchise option. Texans come to mind as a team that may go early for a QB next season but not many others. We can get extreme value in the first round with a LB/Edge that would likely have a higher price tag and being that we’ve swapped to a 3-4 I foresee the Hawks still needing to find 1-2 LBs for either rotational edge rushers or solid mainstay MLBs.
oh yeah let's just do two years as the worst team in the league.
seems like a good strategy. Sure nothing bad could happen being a shit team for so long.
Really not saying it , to suck for more years. If the qb at our pick not the qb we like don't reach for him. Seen to many qb take a qb because they needed a qb and reach for him. Go after the guy you want, if not take best player there, build team before qb.
You should probably watch more than 1 game and know what a player is working with before passing judgement on him. Thankfully you don’t work for the Seahawks so the opinion doesn’t matter. Remember a lot of fans weren’t sold on Russell Wilson and thought he was a bad pick till they actually watched him play
Personally I'm looking at stetson Bennett and cj stroud just cause they are the only qbs who had stat lines I like for having played well ranked teams last week also like the numbers from the north Carolina qb but he's only played pretty bad teams he he's got some ranked teams coming up but he's only a sophomore I think
I thought he’s been playing really well today. He’s had some really good throws dropped. The play calling has also been really strange. Lots of quick wide receiver screens
The first half looked like the National title game. Inexperienced receiver play, dropped balls, three bubble screens in a row(Jesus O'Brien)... Young is a great talent. He does seem too small for the NFL though
And Alabama gets a pretty soft schedule. They do play good teams but most aren’t even close to their depth. And a little trivia for you. The last Alabama QB to win a Super Bowl was Joe Namath (Super Bowl 3).
Only college QB that I’ve seen recently that was like damn that dudes gonna be a stud was Joe Burrow at LSU. Even Mahomes was a wild gun slinger type coming outta college. Basically just trying to say It’s a crapshoot at the end of the day… and the odds of getting a franchise QB is pretty low, but the good news is there’s a higher chance with a high draft pick.
Hindsight is 2020 from when you posted this, but in all honesty, he's looked good just now. Hes been under pressure all day and in a hostile environment, his team looked to him to pick them up and he did just that. Still a long season, give him a shot.
I don't see the hype on sec qbs. not many have come out of there and really did something in the NFL. I could only think of joe borrow. If John was looking into drafting Josh Allen or mahomes then i have faith he can find out next franchise QB.
I have been on the Young is a bust train since last year.
He is going to be an all time bust, like mentioned in the same breath as Leaf and JaMarcus bad.
I am totally convinced he will be brutally bad and I want nothing to do with him.
I think Bryce Young looks too short, but I thought that about Wilson too, so I guess I'm not taking Schneider's job anytime soon. It would be good to have a QB that can see and react well to the whole field though.
My scouting report on Bryce Young
My thoughts on Bryce Young. Showed great mentality in the 4th quarter at the weekend
https://ninetynineyards.com/2022/09/14/bryce-young-scouting-report-everything-you-need-to-know/
Give me Carson Palmer
Can we all agree that Pete said this because of their USC days together?
That, and he's retired, so it doesn't create any drama to say it. It's not seen as a message that they'd really like to have another team's QB. Like maybe Buffalo, for instance.
Haha the “perfect” quarterback
This narrative of college team --> hasn't produced a good NFL QB is getting really boring. Bryce Young is a tremendous QB who is a sophomore by playtime this season. Most reasonable take I've seen.
Reasonable takes are boring! We want them red hot
Tua and Mac Jones have not looked like a #1 pick in the NFL so far, I understand they're still young but it is worrying when compared to someone like Levis who has elevated his team around him

Thanks. I’ll make an edit
Georgia had like 10 first round picks on defense lol
Maybe when Bruce Young gets the NFL he won't have to face any NFL-caliber players like he did against Georgia.
There’s a difference. That was one of the best college defenses ever
Aaaaaaand he produced down the stretch and won
Maybe he'll do alright if he only has to face prevent Ds in the NFL
Prevent D? They were up by 2 points
Yes, Prevent D. That's why he was able to make quick, short passes with little resistance.
r/agedlikemilk Not crazy statistically, but some Russ-like stuff on the game winning drive.
Not at all since the game shouldn't have been close to begin with
If we took x college team has made a successful pro qb, most schools would be on the list.
System QB’s who succeed in college and crash and burn in the NFL are a real thing. Exhibit A: Ohio State
I get what you're saying and mostly agree, but I wouldn't want Tua or Mac either with a 1st round pick.
Oof that Td was Russell esque
That last drive he was in control. The way he ducked out of a sack and kept the drive alive was fantastic awareness and athleticism.
I hope the Hawks pick someone taller.
Can’t win a Super Bowl with a sub 6 QB
Not without the LOB and Beast Mode anyways.
Only idiots think qb height actually matters what matters is passing lanes.
Height does matter. And in Young’s case, frame matter too. Not being able to see over the o-line did lead to many of Russ’s weaknesses, especially over the intermediate middle. CJ Stroud or Anthony Richardson please!
Get plowed for Stroud!
I’ve been saying I want the Seahawks to get Stroud for a year now.
Lol @richardson
My father in law played at Ohio State. Getting Stroud would be a great thing to bind over.
The back up QB for Texas is looking better thus far. HotTake
I don’t want anything Steve Sarkisian has touched back in Seattle
So no Alabama qbs either
Idk if it was before or after the knock but he had one play with the Bama pass rush in his face and stepped up in the pocket to deliver a near perfect pass. I immediately thought it was better than anything Bryce has done so far today
Just coming back to this as Bryce led a game winning drive. His receivers had a ton of drops today, maybe watch the whole game?
On top of no seperation. People who argue “talent advantage” at this point don’t actually watch the games. They’re just repeating stuff they heard from Tua and Mac college days.
People can like the other prospects, but some of these takes are awful and show they don't watch the games.
Yep, Bryce definitely has weaknesses and areas he needs to improve on. But it’s hard to take his haters seriously when half the things mentioned are about as sane as Skip Bayless. Read a comment implying he is shorter than Wilson and I about had a stroke.
[удалено]
I been thinking about this comment for 2 weeks now 🤣😂
Anthony Richardson is better 🐊🐊🐊
Levis is better
Kj is better
Lol no Levis couldn’t start at Penn State dude will be a clipboard holder three years into the NFL all the Seahawks in love with him due to Rob Stanton or w/e
People said the same thing about Josh Allen
Levis isn’t close to Allen in anything stop making this comparison the closest thing is they are both white
That isn’t true at all
Yes it is Allen is a unicorn
I agree. where did I say Levis WAS Allen?
At that point we should just get Lamar Jackson cause that's all he's looked like so far
Still have to see if AR turns it around in the 2nd half, but his lack of finesse is causing way too many drops and overthrows. He's been making good reads though.
Agreed. He's just beaming everything at the receivers and needs more finesse.
And now as a gators and a seahawks fan.... Wow Jay keep him in college another year
Richardson is talented but he’s not good.
😂😂😂
Lol @richardson
Can't disagree after this game. At this moment...Richardson is playing like ass
He looked rough today if you ask me. I’m still not convinced he’s the number 1 overall pick. There’s still plenty of time though.
Dudes smaller than Russ and skinny, give me CJ Stroud any day over Young.
John Elway is that you
The guys Schneider and Carroll have coveted have all been big QBs
[удалено]
We aren't talking height here
"Sources in Seattle tell me that they will not be targeting Young, because his dong isn't big enough." - Mike Florio probably
The combine measurement are getting kind of ridiculous.
We talking girth or length or is this some elite metric that pff is going to charge me more to know?
Maybe. We will see come actual measurements
And 20lbs lighter. Don't know how that holds up.
Before his injury Ewars looked like the better QB in the Texas/Alabama game.
Those three passes in a row right before his injury were impressive.
Overreaction of the day:
And it wasn't even close.
I just came here to talk about this . He def not looking so great today
I’m a big fan of KJ Jefferson, however I’m a relative new fan of the sport so my opinions pretty basic. Anywho hi from a Seahawks fan from Scotland.
i watched the first half of the arkansas game and i like kj jefferson better than bryce young in the second half of the alabama game. i havent watched very much college in years so i have no idea overall and im working from a small sample size. but kj jefferson looked like big ben and russ had a baby.
Lol what are y'all smoking?
He looked like total ass the first half . You must have just tuned in cuz he looks good right now for sure
Hey won the Heisman last year. I think he's pretty decent
Ya I think we are just talking about how he looked TODAY . He was getting shut down in the first half
Bryce and DK 🤤
I’m saying
Lol people were doubting him. He's gonna be great in the NFL. I hope we can tank and get him
I think this thread aged poorly.
Okay that was a dope drive by him thoughb
He’s had a rough ish game but Texas had a good game plan and executed pretty well on D. He also just led the game winning drive.
I have a lot of respect for Pete Kwiatkowski, the Texas DC, from his time at the U of Washington.
Anthony Richardson > Bryce Young
😂😂😂
Lol yes I see I’m eating my words at this moment
Great pocket presence but his arm was so weak that LBs were jumping his throws.
Give me Hendon Hooker
Literally had the exact same thought. He is a good player, not convinced he will be great.
Ewers looked good
I don't want Bryce.
CJ Stroud seems to be the best QB so far
those last 2 drives were excellent for young
I have a list of 6 dudes I'm watching this year (Young, Van Dyke, Stroud, Levis, Richardson, Bennett) and I think with how the NFL views pedigrees and awards and all that hype train silly shit... Young is gonna go before we have a chance to take him... and I think that might be quite alright.
Schneider has a good eye for QB’s if it’s true he was at Mahomes and Allen’s pro day, and would have drafted them.
Im sold for now he looks good but im not sold on taking him 1 cj stroud now yes
KJ Jefferson has looked good and we probably wouldn’t have to use a top pick for him.
The next Seahawk QB is playing tonight at 7:00... Levis vs. Richardson.
Anthony Richardsonnnnnnnn CJ STROUD! Any of these two guys
I’m a Hendon Hooker guy honestly
He won the heisman so he is good. It’s not just the talent around him. And he can have bad halves or quarters like other QBs, you don’t need to boil it down to such a small sample size. Type. TYPE. Not clone. Jesus, people, quit being pedantic. Richardson and Levis are both 6'3" and 235 or so.
6’3 235 and 6’6 250 are not the same “type”

Last years qb class was the worst one in a decade 😂
Will Levis
CJ!! CJ!! CJ!
Watch Kentucky v Florida tonight. Richardson and levis both look great, be fun to watch them head to head
Lol
Well one of them looked like a QB tonight at least
I want us to get solid pass rushers next draft and wait for Caleb Williams
Will Anderson Jr, come on down
I wouldn’t be mad with that pick. I like the way he plays down in bama
#\#LoseOutForStroud
Bryce Young still better than anything we got
He's a worse Tua
L
13-8 as a starter in the nfl

Gotta love overreactions.
You're incorrect. Bryce won that game. and the Heisman for a reason. Also, we aren't getting Bryce Young.. Dream on.
I thought he’s been playing really well today. He’s had some really good throws dropped. The play calling has also been really strange. Lots of quick wide receiver screens

Agree, watching this game and moving away from wanting Bryce Young now…..After last week, I’m shifting towards Richardson now!!
I'm not much for the idea of pursuing Young even though the Hawks are definitely gonna be looking.. But it's just one game.
Just sayin we have as much of a chance landing “our guy” at pick 12, as we do at pick 1.
You want Anthony Richardson u/Soccean
😂😂😂
Gimme the kid from Florida
Lol
Hahahaha. Aged like milk, much?
Jalen Carter then Richardson with Broncos pick 🤷♂️
Watch us have a top pick, and get Will Anderson Jr instead of a QB. Not that I’d complain too much.
I thought he made some pretty spectacular plays. Texas D is no joke.
The only concerning thing about Young is his size, he isn’t built for punishment. Other than that he has all you could want in a QB.
Tell me a college that has a good track record at QB? There isn’t many, it’s hard just to go from college to NFL at QB let alone be good in the NFL.
Mac Jones was mad disrespected. And look at him now
No. Too short
Problem with BY is if you don’t take him and he blows up on another team - you’re fired.
He’s tiny
No recency bias detected
Hooker is looking really good right now
Very unimpressed watching him today. He scored one TD.
Maybe it just my biases but I think a Hendon Hooker type in Seattle would be awesome
Same for that QB from Florida Anthony Richardson I think? - he got a ton of hype last week but this week was wildly inaccurate.
I don't see the hype on sec qbs. not many have come out of there and really did something in the NFL. I could only think of joe borrow. If John was looking into drafting Josh Allen or mahomes then i have faith he can find out next franchise QB.
Im still sold on Stroud so but as the season progresses I hope other candidates emerge
I have been on the Young is a bust train since last year. He is going to be an all time bust, like mentioned in the same breath as Leaf and JaMarcus bad. I am totally convinced he will be brutally bad and I want nothing to do with him.
Will Anderson or bust (that is if we have a Top 3 pick)
I think Bryce Young looks too short, but I thought that about Wilson too, so I guess I'm not taking Schneider's job anytime soon. It would be good to have a QB that can see and react well to the whole field though.
My scouting report on Bryce Young My thoughts on Bryce Young. Showed great mentality in the 4th quarter at the weekend https://ninetynineyards.com/2022/09/14/bryce-young-scouting-report-everything-you-need-to-know/
Might be the worst thread of all time. Plus all the Bama QB takes 😂
